Jonathan Toews Is A Winnipeg Jet!!!
this is kind of a crazy surreal video to make for myself you know Welcome back to Pixity Hockey everybody Jets fans from around the world welcome Welcome Hockey fans from around the world buckle up This is an very crazy video for me to make And like I said just a second ago extremely surreal You know all week long all year long the Jets have been linked to Jonathan Taes You know a couple days ago came out on the Winnipeg sports talk that Winnipeg again was the front runner by far to sign Jonathan Taes you know and it looked like it was pretty much I would say a 95% lock that Jonathan Pace was coming to Winnipeg which again is crazy to think about But then early yesterday morning I’m going to like I think like 15 minutes after I started my shift So I go on my first break at 9:00 a.m What do you know or 9:30 excuse me Jonathan Taz has been signed by the Winnipeg Jets and is making his return to the NHL Like just saying that sentence out loud Jonathan Tae is a Winnipeg Jet kind of melts my brain Like obviously there’s a lot of variables that we’re going to be talking about in this video and yes I’m I’m not trying to say that we just signed a the greatest hockey player of all time in his prime This is super exciting blah blah blah That’s not what I’m trying to put out But the nostalgia has definitely taken over for me Here’s the contract breakdown It is definitely a doozy $2 million base salary I got no problem with that Honestly I know people want league men but 2 million is fine but then about $5 million in potential bonuses if the Jets were to go win the Stanley Cup and you know he plays in I think over 50% of all games in the Stanley Cup playoffs So very very a lot of variables in that contract It’s kind of crazy We talked about this news all year long You know this story first broke from Frank Sarah Dave covered it on a legal curve talking about how you know Jonathan Ta wants to come back and he is hungry to play again in the NHL You know earlier in December as well it had came out from Tas himself talking about his own personal journey in India dealing with his rehab his healing his spiritual journey all this stuff that he’s been going on battling long co since 2023 That’s what’s kept him out of the NHL in the first place So it’s been a very difficult couple of years for Jonathan Taes He’s battled a ton of adversity and like and and now he’s back and now he’s back with his hometown club in the NHL at 37 years old Now again he’s been I still think this is there there’s a lot of this is very interesting in my opinion cuz you know you see Jonathan Tay 37 years old he’s been skating with Austin Matthews train hometown trainer longtime trainer there he’s this contract in itself shows the this three-time Stanley Cup champion Hall of Famer he’s definitely feels like he’s got something to prove you know I don’t think a guy like John the Tase would be coming back to Winnipeg and coming back to the NHL if he didn’t think that he could play at a decent enough level and be productive why taint your legacy you know like I I just I don’t know why you would want to do that So I know a lot of people have been freaking out about this contract I think it is complete overreaction and actually kind of childish with how some people have been reacting to it It’s kind of hilarious to watch Like it’s not even July 1st yet This is the only reason we can sign this guy cuz he hasn’t played in a couple of years and everyone wants to act like El is 100% gone There’s no backup plan and Jonathan Ta is going to be the locked up Tuci forever and you know God bless Jonathan Tes I don’t know if that’s the message right now I really don’t think so I got faith in Chevy Did anybody see the Jets win the President’s Trophy last season and this time of the offseason no So dial it back a little bit everybody and let’s just see what else this team does because Jonathan Ta could be a very very interesting signing Like there are a lot of variables that go into Jonathan Ta but looking at the leadership on ice value alone of what he’s going to bring to that bench to the room his experience in the playoffs and not only in his playoffs but in big moment games like you like Jonathan Taz is one of the best players in NHL history like he is a top 100 player of all time without a doubt I I like in my opinion he’s a cover athlete for Christ’s sakes for NHL franchise That’s pretty cool for me A threetime Stanley Cup champion as captain of a team as well That’s pretty important detail Uh what else has he done like oh yeah how could I forget the two medals for team Canada in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi Like great performances in those tournaments Legendary teams Not to mention like the when he won the cup in 2010 when that parade came through St Patel I was in Winnipeg I my dad took me I got to see the cup meet Jonathan the Tas I still have an autographed puck from that day like that day is a core memory for me with my dad with just being in in Winnipeg in the summer like that with my family and for a hockey memory it’s a that’s there’s just so much nostalgia in this for me like Jonathan Ta being here alone as a fan of the Jets as a fan of hockey is just insane So yeah if you want to overreact about the contract go for it But at the same time let’s see what this guy’s going to bring You look at his career Look how long look at how how consistent he’s been You know I I know we’re not getting the guy from 2007 and 8 okay we’re not getting the guy from 2010 We’re not getting the guy from 2013 Like it’s I know how time works everybody We’re not I’m not stupid but at the same time how can you not look at the signing and be like “Wow you know there’s some potential here.” like 37 points in 2022 2022 2020 2021 2022 excuse me on a Blackhawks team 53 games 31 points on a dog Black Ops Blackhawks team while you’re battling COVID while you’re sick and all that stuff going on with the lockout and injuries as well So if he is healthy and he is ready to go let’s see what he’s got You know if Jonath is ass team’s going to play him every single night and if you think oh that’s all the organization’s track record blah blah blah this and that If they thought that Jonathan Ta was going to be some guy that they wanted to play every single night they wouldn’t have signed him to a contract with bonus structures They would have signed him to a completely different contract structure So I think that the Jets are not putting their eggs in one basket They want Taz around They want to give him a shot because why wouldn’t you if you’re Winnipeg like look at what Brad Marshan just did I know he’s been in the league still healthy and continuously playing but come on You’re going to tell me that a 37-year-old Brad Marian that just did what he did in the playoffs it wasn’t valuable to Florida or what a 40-year-old Cory Perry did to for Edmonton And I’m not even that big of a fan of Cory Perry I think he’s kind of washed but at the same time you can’t deny what he did and what he and the success he had last year at the age he did So we have no idea what Jonathan Tes can provide He could be completely washed He could be you know a very consistent thirdline guy Hell he might even elevate his game to a second line type center at one point We don’t know yet And on top of it everyone freaking out about oh you lose is gone I’m just going to throw all this little you know juicy little bit for you Patrick Kane’s a free agent These guys are best friends and have won three Stanley Cups together Do you guys remember when Zach Prizy and Ryan Sudter hit the market nobody thought they were going to sign in the same place And they did So obviously Patrick Kane coming to Winnipeg could feel feel like a far-fetched dream and something that’s not even from this reality But in let’s be real these guys won three Stanley Cups together are in the twilight of the career and they want to they got something left to prove You know why rot away in Detroit again if you could come up and play with Taz and you know on a President’s Trophy team is it is it going to happen do I know 100% No But it’s just fun to think about like the Jets just signed their biggest free agent signing in history I know you can say oh 37y old blah blah blah doesn’t matter It’s the name value No one in in years past would have ever ever given Winnipeg a chance like that unless they were from there And even when they have been from there or from the region it’s still a battle to get them to sign So you know if you want to look at a guy like Patrick Kane who put up 59 points on a dog Detroit Red Wings team again $4 million capit So I maybe he’ll be about the same maybe he’ll be a little bit less I don’t know But at the same time to write off this TAC thing and to write off the Jets as a team and as an organization because they signed Jav and Taz is laughable Like yesterday I actually was getting pretty heated like the rage I don’t know if it was rage paid or what everyone was posting online but it kind of got me going because I don’t know how you could look at the signing and just throw your hat in and be like oh Jets suck This is a horrible move for the franchise $7 million for a 37year-old absolutely washed Blah blah blah They’re all in bonuses And also in case you don’t know how bonuses work if for some reason the Jets were to win the Stanley Cup which can you imagine and Jonathan Tayes gets all those bonuses and it puts us over the cap Guess what no cap penalties It just gets pushed into next year’s bonuses c on the cap Like nothing nothing’s going to there’s not going to be any repercussions from this long-term effect It’s a one-year contract And at the same time everyone complaining about oh this means Eers is going to walk Did you How many of you those are the same people that thought that Mark Shler is going to walk same people that was like Connor Halog’s done Let’s trade him Like like let get real And also just for the side note if Eers does walk I’m sorry I’m a bigger Eelers fan than 90% of Jets fans out there but I do not want to pay Nikolai Eelers $10 million for seven years okay not a chance Like I love Nikolai Eelers and I want him to be a Jet for life but I think that the expectations that you guys have of what this contract is going to look like for Ether is extremely no low There is going to be some team out there that is going to offer him and his camp a boatload of money that would be stupid for anyone to refuse at that point in his career especially with the injuries that he’s faced So do I want Elers to stay do I want the Jets to give to give him an offer and have him here forever and a good a fair cap hit for both sides absolutely If that doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen It sucks but it’s the name of the game And I guarantee that signing Nikolai to a $10 million contract is not the way to go Okay it’s it’s just not He’s not that guy that is going to push us into being a cup contender I love Nikolai Elers the most underrated guy on the team Just had almost a career year Fantastic I’m not saying he’s not an important player to this club whatsoever But if you think all you need is Eers to keep this club you know in winning a cup I don’t know if that’s the move anymore So I think this TA signing has a lot of potential it’s low risk and if you think it isn’t low risk cuz of the contract then you’re overreacting Have some fun This could be really interesting I’m excited to see how this works out And if it doesn’t it doesn’t I’m just It’s just fun to see the Jets go out there and make a move like this I’m all for it Jonathan Tay is one of my childhood heroes and now he’s a Winnipeg Jet I will be first in line to buy that jersey So let me know your thoughts down in the comments section below everybody Do you think this was a great move by Chevy do you think this was a move by Chevy you know like what do you think i’m very curious I want to know how everyone’s feeling about this Um I I just I I think that there’s a lot of potential with this I’m excited to see how it turns out Let me know Can you imagine our opening night roster and the third line being iafallo Toews and Kane
As a Jets fan I'd love Patrick kane on the team aswell, big fan of his great player!!
Ya as Colorado fan-i was hoping hed come here but we already have 4 centers better than your below average 2C Nemesticov. I wanted Toewes to come here but more like 1 million-2 million is a bit too much in my opinion-at least for us with no hole at any center position. I understand for WPG ya probably have to go higher cuz of your lack of center depth & he probably will help. Definitely will help intangible wise if nothing else. But at his age,& after 2 yrs off-I dont think you can count on him being your new 2C-though we will see. Thats your major weakness-tough to go deep with a below average 2C as we found out after Kadri left He should help your bottom 6 as either 3 or 4C. But i still dont consider the Jets more than a WC team next yr unless you drastically improve 2C. Who knows if Hellyunbuck will figure it out in the playoffs or not but he couldnt be any better in regular season than the last 2 yrs-if he slips at all-you could be in some trouble.
I think the Central is gonna be even tougher this yr. St Louis shouldve beat you guys, Minnesota & Colorado were the 2 most injured teams in the west-& top 3 overall with Toronto-when factoring in not just lost man games but quality of players missing those man games. Wild also have a top 3 prospect pool,& I expect Utah to be a playoff team next yr. Especially if you lose Ehlers-though he hasnt exactly been super playoff clutch either. Obviously so much still can,& will happen over the summer-let alone by next trade deadline. So Im not close to making my predictions for next yr-we havent even had the draft yet.But if I was a Jet fan id be happy Toewes is coming but not thinking he solves our gaping 2C hole,& 2 million is a bit high. But i kinda figured hed pick WPG cuz we know its home for him,& we really dont have an opening at center.
With Mckinnon,Nelson,Coyle,& Drury-somebody would have to move to wing which wouldve been fine-Coyle,Drury or Toewes could do it. But he's probably a better fit in WPG. You can always use more leadership, championship DNA,& center depth. But those are things we really arent lacking-we have as much of that as anybody in the west. But those are all areas WPG is lacking,& Toewes will probably help you with as long as you dont go crazy with your expectations. He might be able to be an improvement at 2C over Nemesticov-but thats not a high bar. But i dont think you can count on him to solve your biggest weakness by far. If this was 2015 or something-sure. Hes a HOFer,awesome leader,& 1 of the best 2 way players of his generation. But if that guy still existed-you wouldnt be getting him,& surely not at 2 million.
Agree with you 100% on Toews. Win win for the jets 1 yr 2 mil it’s worth the risk. As for all the bonuses I hope he gets them all and we win a cup. Would you want him ending up in Colorado instead?? I went to the parade too. Well done Chevy!
It’s a lot more money than expected with those bonuses, but that tells me that other teams think he was very capable of a comeback, and there was a bidding war for him. He wouldn’t have gotten potentially 7M if teams weren’t also giving him strong offers
Welcome home, Jonathan Teows!! 🥹🛫❄️
Let's sign up Patrick Kane to the Jets too!! Go Jets Go!! 😁🛫🍁
Wooooooooooooo!
Winnipeg 🇨🇦.Now Byfuglien. Kane as well as Wooooooo!!!!
I was there in 2010 to see Toews bring the Stanley cup to Dakota ice rink where he grew up as a kid
Toews is iffy at 37 but I believe he'll be a solid contributer to the bottom 6. GO JETS GO!
Great spirit Jake, should be fun to watch.
Go Jets Go!
Awesome move loooove it!!!
Age doesn't matter in the age of performance enhancing drugs. He's not subject to any drug testing, so he's free to load up on a multitude of drugs that will make a 38 year-old play like a 25 year-old. Expect him to be a factor in 25-26. Go Jets!
I think he will be a good leadership person to help with Playoff jitters. Every team needs guys like him to maintain a good mindset in playoffs
Oh Whooooopdeedoooooo ! 🙄
Great move by the Jets. I think he will be a great bottom six player. I am also a huge Toews fan.. and will have his jersey as soon as possible.
As a life long Blackhawk fan …i wish Toews nothing but the best…
It’s a PR dream
GO JETS GOOOOOO!!!! FINALLY 🏆🫡🙏🏻❤️
