Mets vs. Phillies Game Highlights (6/22/25) | MLB Highlights
It’s a hot steamy night here in the city of brotherly love as the folks make their way into Citizens Bank Park, they’ve been filling it up third in the majors in attendance for this rivalry. The Mets and the Phillies, the winner tonight has sole possession of first place Jesus Lizardo, one of the more superstitious guys out there and the numbers on the clock, it makes my head hurt. Fours and eights have always been good luck. So right there that adds up to 14 and he makes his way out onto the field. His first throw at 643 that adds up to 13, but one plus three equals four. I hope you’re following along. There will be a test later and we will wheel the abacus into the booth. You see the numbers for Lizardo overall. 441 his 1st 11, 215. But it’s the last four that everybody focused on that. Er, a can be a little bit skewed when you have a couple of really bad starts like that one against the Brewers where you give up 12 earned runs. There’s a lot of different ways to break down a pitcher in his performance. But the stuff has never been a question with Jesus and you’ll face francisco. The switch hitter will climb in on the right side is we get underway, reach for and lo over left over the shortstop in left field as a base hit just floated it out there. A leadoff hit to get the man started two to two. The count and the pitched to Marte swing and a Miss, he got it went down and in with a four seamer and Marte swings over the top of it. So did not get all of it tags. He’s headed for third. He’ll make it there without a throw with two down. Here’s Alonso and that is in for a strike and Alonso now turns around as he tossed the bat and apologizes to chris Conroy. So here we go. Three and two and Alonso is gone. Lizardo pitches around a leadoff single and he comes up with a pair of strikeouts. So what about David Peterson? What’s working for him? One thing he does is all the hard hit contact on him is usually on the ground as opposed to in the air. You know that Kyle Schwarber is trying to hit it in the air. He’s really struggled against Peterson too. 11 strikeouts against him. 32 swing and a miss struck him out and Peterson able to get him , that was the slider. It’s a good pitch for the thing that makes it so effective is because it comes in on the same plane and the tunneling effect off of that sinker coming out of his hand. It looks like the two seamer ends up off the plate and down and away swings lines, it back knocked down by Peterson of the mound. Gather, pick it up and the lefty gets a 123 on 10 pitches. Bottom third of the order for the Phils here in the bottom of the third inning. Nobody has reached base for the Phillies against David Peterson. So, so batting 260 he’s been scuffling. He’s got just three hits in his last 39 at bats. 2 to 1 broken bat shattered first hit for the Phillies. Peterson executed his pitch. This is all francisco could do. That was no chance and he almost pulls it up at a base hit leadoff man aboard. Here’s buddy Kennedy and after the a walk and tour aboard, they caught. So Peterson so good at keeping runners close and there he picks one off but now there’s two outs runner at first base. It will bring up Trey Turner two outs, 22 pitch swing and a miss struck him out. Pounded the slider in and all for not in the inning though was a messy one for Peterson. The Phillies yet nothing score this game bottom of the fourth inning. Kyle Schwarber will lead off for the Phillies 12 pitch swung on hit in the air, deep center field going back on it Taylor to the track, look it up. It is gone dead center as kyle Schwarber with number 24 has put the Phillies in front one to just his second ever hit off of David Peterson and it’s a home run off the batter’s eye. Here’s Castanos and he swings and lines one hard down the left field line that will be in for a base hit, roll to the corner. Casto is headed into second and that’s his 20th double of the season Casto in scoring position. Now with one out second walk of the night for Peterson and here comes Jeremy Hefner 1st and 2nd 1 out. He’s doing fine as far as pitch count is concerned. But again, the loud contact, the loud outs and now the loud hits are starting to add up, swung on line to left that’s out of the reach of it trickles away. And in the score is Castanos heading for third is Roo Otto K with an RB I single and it’s 20 Phillies just out of the reach of ranging out out of the outfield grass. He got a little bit of leather on it which only slowed it down and helped the Phillies. And here is Edmundo Sosa right here will be the 20th pitch of the innings swung on, hit the air pretty deep, right center field Taylor going back looking up and that ball is gone. It clears over the stands into the bullpens. It’s a three run home run for Edmundo Sosa, number two for Sosa, and it’s a monster as the Phillies break it wide open on Peterson here in the fourth inning and I’ll say he’s made up for the pick off at second base. Last 13 starts allowed two home runs all of a sudden this last inning just allowed two home runs as well. And so the inning continues, it’s going to bring Trey Turner to the plate. The ninth man to bat in the inning, swung on ground ball up the middle trying to grab it. Love it. Rojas now is going to get himself thrown out. Oh, he got back to second base. My goodness, Leo double clutch could have had him if he wouldn’t have hesitated as soon as he saw Rojas stop and a throw back to second and it hits Rojas and he’s down, he’s shaken up at second base. I think the ball domed him and it did right on the back of the helmet when you get hit like that. It’s not so much like it hurts for, for example, but it’s really loud in the helmet. So it really scares you as a hitter or as a runner. In this case, it scares you into thinking the worst right away because you know, you’ve been hit, you know where it’s at. Jars you a little bit and this is great to see that they’re able to leave him in there in the year. A long to over there waves his arms makes the catch and Schwarber is out and that will do it for the Phillies but five runs across here in the fourth inning. A really long wait for Jesus Luzardo in between innings. That’s certainly worth it. Five runs across in support of Luzardo as we start the fifth and there’s your shut down in from Jesus Luzardo, 123 go. The Mets a couple of strikeouts along the way. Jesus Luzardo needed a good start here after his last four had been bumpy and he delivered and he may not own the Mets, but he’s got at least with an option to buy his last five. No earned one earned, no earned two earned, no earned six and two thirds innings of shutout baseball. Get a great hand. Phillies would love to tack on a little extra here if they can. They’re going to get to work against 30 year old right hander Tyler Zuber as Zuber makes his Met debut tonight and they’re on the corners for the Phils and Alec Bohm coming up and delivers to Boone swinging to pop in the air to right soto waiting on it. He’s under it. He’ll make the catch Turner tagging. He’s coming home. The throw is up the line and not in time and Trey Turner scores on the sacrifice fly by Alec B and it’s 6 to 0. Phillies. Nick late in the game on Friday night who delivered the final blow, swung on, hit in the air, left center field up the alley and that one will be a base hit Schwarber on his way to third. It’s picked up on the track by Taylor. They’re going to wave Schwarber around third Lidos relay home is not in time. Schwarber scores from first on the double by Castellanos Phillies here tonight. You know, when the homered yesterday Philly lead was 31 and made it 3 to 2. And you’re thinking there’s that home run stat with him. Home ring and the Mets winning that’s hit in the air to right field and deep Castellanos racing back looks up and it’s gone. Francisco Lior has hit a home run here in the eighth inning that had been shut out and shut out no more as that one sailed over the high led board in right his second home run in as many ninth, 16th of the year and it’s now 7 to 1. Phillies in the eighth. This was, I was about to start talking about that right now. Lior is on a streak where in the last 28 games that he’s hit a homer. It’s one of those weird baseball things, but it’s a real deal. The last 28 times homer the Met have won. We go to the night that is 7 to 1. The Phillies with a win will secure their 17th series win that’s in 25 series so far this season, which would tie a franchise record for most series wins through the 1st 25. Matt Strahm. Looking for a 12, 3/9 Phillies looking for sole possession of first place swinging a pop up foul Marsh coming on. Calls them off. That’s the Phillies win it and the Phillies are in first place.

Guess you can’t get 7 home runs and face a rookie starting pitcher every game 🤷🏻♂️
I will hear no more of this “Mets own you” talk until we get swept again at Citi Field later this year 😤
