Heres what the Jets roster could look like without Ehlers, and with signing some UFAs and RFAs based on predicted contracts.
This roster would have 7.9m cap space, per CapWages.
What moves would you make?

Kupari is out
Kupari signed in Switzerland for 2 years.
That second line is Not Good.
Perfetti at the bottom 6 isn’t ideal.
Kupari signed in Europe already so you can delete him. My prediction is after signing Toews they will wait and see until close to the trade deadline to address the center position again. Ideally without Ehlers, Lambert gets first crack at the top 6 wing position with Toews and Perfetti and they don’t go add a high priced veteran to block him (and Chibrikov, who should either be in Appleton’s spot or Iafallo’s if they bump him up a line).
Edit to add I didn’t really look at what you had inserted there. I was basing mine off last year’s lineup. Zero reason to believe Appleton will be back. No way the second line looks anything like what you’ve projected. And no way Perfetti plays third line – outside of the top line, he’s the only legit top 6 player they have if Ehler’s doesn’t return.
If they lose Ehlers, the 2nd line will 100% be
Vlad-Toews-Perfetti
2nd and 3rd lines look awful, 4th is ok but why put Appleton there instead of Ford or chibi
I don’t really want Appleton back, even for just $1m. $3.22m would blow my mind. I’d rather take that money with some of that leftover and get a respectable 2c. Also, where’s Barron on this list?
Is this counting Toews’ potential bonuses against this year’s cap? I’d heard they would be deferred to next year
Just in…Jets sign Gretzky and Lemieux. Rocket Richard is thinking g about making g a comeback too
This, in fact, would not be the Jets roster without Ehlers, because Kupari isn’t coming back. And you think out of all the potential trades and signings the Jets could do, the only move they will make is to sign Appleton to play on the fourth line?
Would dump Stanley for a box of used ‘jock straps’.
We need a second line center and bad
The Jets have *always* allowed to a bonus cushion in full for the current season until at least the trade deadline. Anyone thinking they’re gonna let the bonus roll over is forgetting the $20M+ owed to Connor/Perfetti/Lowry next summer. Toews should be treated as a $7M player until February anytime you look at cap stuff.
Appleton is nearly certain to be gone. You’re missing Barron, but he’s probably getting around what you have Kupari at and he’s gone so that’s fine. You’re also forgetting Lowry is out for 5-6 months, and given that the Jets notoriously undersell injury timelines it would be very surprising to see him before Christmas.
The Jets will run:
Connor/Scheif/Vilardi
Nino/Toews/Iafallo
Perfetti/Vlad/Ford
Gustafsson/Barron/JAD
To start the year, and unless Helly is getting ready to win a second Hart in a row they’re gonna be 10 points out of the playoffs before the end of November.
Wheres Barron? Kupari making a comeback already? Perfetti 3rd line? What maddness is this
Well, this is a bad start when you add Kupari, who has left the Jets to play in Europe and forgot to include Morgan Barron. Maybe try again.
Iafallo on the second line seems wrong.
Appleton hasn’t gotten a call from the Jets yet. I think he’s done
Kupari signed in Europe, Appleton can go, especially at that cap hit and where is Barron?
Connor Scheif Vilardi
Nino Lowry Perfetti
Vlad Toews Chibby/Lambo
Iafallo Barron Ford
Gus/JAD
Morrissey Demelo
Samberg Pionk
Fleury Schenn
Stan Miller
Kupari has left the Jets for Europe. There’s no way Appleton is staying either.
Iaffalo likely takes Ehlers spot, but likely gets bumped down to the 3rd or 4th line if one of the kids has a good training camp.
What they do about Lowry is a bit of a wild card. If he goes on LTIR they won’t accure cap space. So one of the 4 defenders on the bottom pairing might be waived or traded to keep the roster at 23 skaters, but I’m kinda forgetting how that works.
Lines to start will likely be something like:
Forwards-
Connor-Schieffle-Vilardi
Lambert-Vladdy-Perfetti
Nino-Toews-Iaffalo
JAD-Barron-Chibi
Gus as 13th forward. Lowry on LTIR
Defense-
Morrissey-Demelo
Samberg-Pionk
Stanley-Miller
Villie-Schenn
The 4 fighting for the bottom pairing will likely rotate for a bit.

I guess Chevy kinda forgot about Barron
