as we get ready for the series opener between the Brewers and the Pirates here’s a look at the pitching matchup for the Pirates braxton Ashcraft making his first career start his eighth career game he does come in with a 154 earned run average and for Chad Patrick leading all major league rookies his 16th start of the season and it’s been a good start to his career for Chad Patrick o’neal Cruz to lead things off for the Pirates against Chad Patrick two- two pitch and Cruz took a call third strike the sinker at the knees and it’s a strike out of O’Neal Cruz here is Brian Reynolds switch hitter batting left at 226 with eight home runs there’s a line drive base hit for Reynolds 104 off the bat found a cutter picking up where he left off yesterday three hits plus a walk so Reynolds who’s traditionally hit against the Crew continues that theme here with a two-out single and that will get Nick Gonzalez to the plate that ball’s cracked to left center a long run for the center fielder trio dives can’t get there it’ll bound off the wall backed up by Collins touching third reynolds he’s on his way home the relay throw from Ortiz that’s late and offline rbi double nick Gonzalez pirates up one- nothing in Milwaukee illadvised dive I would say by Churio he might have been able to go with a deeper route cut that off and keep Reynolds from scoring but with the dive no question he was going to score for the 25th time this year two down for Christian Yelich one of the hotter hitters in baseball right now and a line driving a right it’s a sevengame hitting streak for Yelich not waiting long yeah last 25 games Christian Yelich hitting .394 so Yelich sets the stage for William Contraras long pause to hold the runner and the pitch swinging a bouncer softly hit toward third hayes cuts it off from the short stop and lobs it onto first for the final out nice tidy first inning for Braxton Ashcraft in his first major league start spencer Horwitz will start things here in the second and the pitch to him swinging a hard ground ball through the right side base hit turned around 95 and a leadoff single now it’s Kebrian Hayes coming off a great all-around game yesterday swinging a ball nubbed off the end of the bat and a deposit into right for a base hit horwitz running hard all the way is going to get to third with nobody out one of the stranger hits I’ve ever seen that was bizarre i mean we see balls get spun but not like that and Tommy Fam is coming up two two pitch swing and a miss he struck it out cut her away fam chased and that was a much needed strikeout now there’s a window to get out of this inning and here is Isaiah Ker Falefa and IKF has been struggling at the plate of late he’s 0 for his last 10 02 pitch swinging a miss he struck him out fast elevated at 97 that time from Chad Patrick now there’s two down and he’s an out away from trying to get out of this one but he has to face O’Neal Cruz first pitch is a chopper backing up is Ortiz fields throws to first in time so Patrick gives up two singles gets out of it no damage done we go to the bottom of the second inning one- nothing Pirates and Bryce Terrain to lead things off swinging a miss strikes him out on a low fast ball first strikeouts tonight for Ashcraft two quick outs up Caleb Durban to face Ashcraft full count the pitch swinging a miss struck him out and Ashcraft comes back with a slider on that 10 pitch at bat to strike out Caleb Durban mccutchen Reynolds and Gonzalez that’s two three and four in Don Kelly’s order do swing and a miss he got him with a high fast with a fast ball don’t see McCutchen expand the zone that much very often that ball nearly hit him now it’s Reynolds he’s singled and scored from first on the double by Gonzalez two two swinging a miss another high one boy they’re chasing up the ladder this in cutter that was at the shoulders two out hit sets the stage for Joey Barton patrick is ready runner goes 3-2 down the middle he got him looking fast ball and Patrick strikes out the side in the third hayes also has been on both times like Gonzalez now Tommy Fam swung on and driven high in the air deep to center chio back warning track and there it goes a long home run to center tommy Fam hits home run number one as a Pirate and it’s three to nothing here in the fourth and not cheap he has power he has power to all fields he can hit it out to right center and left we just haven’t seen it so Yelich aboard twice nobody else has reached here comes Contrarus the one ripped in a left for a base hit contras smokes a single and a couple of hops in front of F and the Brewers with something cooking here in the fourth first and second with one away for Bryce Dang line drive base hit into left center field on it quickly is Fam getting a wave around third is Yelich and there will be no throw home three to one ball game as Terra hits an 02 pitch through the left side so the bases are loaded the batter Caleb Durban hunter Stratton is ready two-2 popped into center field i think it’s deep enough to score Contrarus but O’Neal Cruz has a great arm he sizes it up makes the catch cruz unccorks one to the plate on a hop slide safe contraras just beat it home and the Brewers are back within one it’s three to two here in the fourth a sack fly from Caleb Durban that’ll be Reynolds then Gonzalez and Joey Bart facing Chad Patrick and the payoff swing fly ball to the gap in right center field and deep and this ball is going to bang off the very top of the wall fielded by Churio it’s a double for Reynolds if the roof’s open I think it’s a homer that’s just bad luck don’t you think yeah nick Gonzalez at the plate nobody out reynolds at second and a one-two gonzalez hits it right base hit and Reynolds will be waved around he’ll come in to score throw to second is in time oh S got another one s Freelick flashing that arm strength and that hustle to get to that ball quickly and he cuts down Gonzalez at second base another assist for S joey Bart comes to the plate this could be the last batter for Chad Patrick one two swing and a foul tip into the net of Contras it is strikeout number nine for Chad Patrick as he likely ends his night with his career-high ninth strikeout and it is first and second for the crew and nobody out jackson Cheerios at the plate the pitch swinging a ball line right back to him he’ll go on to second for a double play boy was that bad base running there that’s terrible base running by Ortiz easy double play great play and that was the worst case scenario for the Brewers so now here’s Yalich he’s running this show man every time he comes to the plate you got to stop and watch two outs felix still at first sugar brings home the pitch and Yalich a drive out to right that ball is back and it is gone christian Yelich a two-run shot has tied this game at four in the fifth an absolute laser off the bat of Yelich for his 15th of the season he got a cutter down and in and he hugged it inside the pole down that right field line man alive is he hot and in the blink of an eye we’re tied and now here’s Contraras swing five ball to deep right field toward the corner reynolds back warning track he’ll make the catch in the right field corner contrarus gave it a whirl went out in the sixth inning fam it went a long way to center field way above the wall his first time up two is rolled right up first at a fair ball for Tommy Fam another extra base hit well Freelick is going to put on the brakes of Fam yeah he’s got a really good and accurate arm that’s known in your scouting report but an ordinary right fielder that’s a double connor Falefa the man at first and one out 4-4 game in the sixth two strikes here it is swinging a ball slapped down the right field line long run for Felic it is a fair ball and in the corner fam around second heading to third rebella with a windmill here comes Fam to the plate the relay comes to third instead it’s a triple for Kaider Falefa and the Pirates retake the lead five to four in the sixth again the bottom of the lineup doing their thing we saw it yesterday we’re seeing it again here tonight so the two outs here in the seventh for Aaron Ashby here comes Spencer Horwitz lefty versus lefty with Gonzalez still at first running again gonzalez 3-2 chopped on the ground softly towards second base and this is probably going to be a hit yep played by Tang rener goes for third terang notices it throws to third and he got Gonzalez out there oh Bryce Tang heads up play to end the inning and it’ll be South Freelick with two outs you got pretty good speed at first with Daz Cameron and a fly ball shadow right here comes Reynolds he makes the catch raise the Jolly Rodger what a win for the Bucks boy did they ever hang on pretty impressive stuff right there i mean had to patch it together with the bullpen
