Nationals vs. Padres Game Highlights (6/23/25) | MLB Highlights

San Diego. Padres are set to kick off a series against the Washington Nationals of fans filing in today already smiling Fernando Tatis junior bobbleheads in hand and they’re hoping for a performance worthy of their collectibles. The big story going into game one of this series is the return of James Wood CJ Abrams played here before as a member of the national. So is Mackenzie Gore. This is the first time that James Wood has been back here since the trade that sent him to DC. So Steven Cole is going to be going for the Padres making only his third start here at home in PCO Park. He fits the law on the road seeking his fourth win CJ Abrams in the leadoff spot. He will pop this one up though right side. It’s Iglesias who makes the catch round number one, James Woods first career at bat here at Petco Park. That strike three gets him looking first k of the night for kick. What a start for Steven Mitchell Parker. He’s your starting pitcher for today’s game. He’s lost his last five spot partial partially. It’s because of he’s only had four total runs of support. The good thing is though, this nationals team is coming off a power surge in L A 19 runs and nine home runs over the past three games is going to lead it up to right play for and there’s one down is Jackson Merrill going to be in the two spot there line in the left center. A base hit for Merrill. Here’s a rise lefty to lefty, a ground ball. The blow at first base in the right. Jackson Merrow will head to third and round it but he’ll be held up there on the base hit by Arise runners at the corners with two down in the Padres first inning and who’s been on quite the tear lately? Ground ball over to second Garcia flops to the dirt makes the play. Daylan Lyle leads off payoff offering now taken inside and a leadoff walk drawn by Dale Lyles. Jacob Young went two for eight with two walks in L A. He looks like he’s going somewhere going around is Jacob, he’s going somewhere. He’s going back to the bench. Here’s the 0 to 1 runner goes. Pitches high throw from Diaz is in not in time but he over the bag boards tags him out and that’s the end of the top of this inning. So Daylan Lyle went straight over the top of second base and Bogard tags him out one out five in a row, retired by Mitchell Parker. Second time through this Padres order and here is Fernando. It will at the center young back. Another good read by Jacob two down for Jackson Miller line drive, Brady House has it position perfectly over there in the hole. CJ. Abrams was at the plate when the third ended with Dale and Lyle caught stealing gets a fresh count tapper in front of the plate kick bounces off the mound throws wide in the B CJ is gonna turn for two and he’ll be out there in scoring position with nobody down here in the fourth inning. So a man on second, nobody out for Wood drives one to left into the gap is sheets now back has to play it off the wall. CJ. Abrams will turn for the plate. A long RB I single by James Wood and the Nats are on the board first here in San Diego. It’s one nothing James Wood against his former organization smiling here at Petco Park. Here’s Luis Garc-a Junior as Garcia lines one down the right field line, fair ball into the corner. Tati has the skipper after it, James Wood will be stopped at third by Ricky Gutierrez and three straight base runners here in the fourth and make it a 12 game hitting streak. Now two on in scoring position with nobody out as Lowe beat the shift through the left side to bring in James Wood. Nathaniel Lowe does indeed add to that RB I total number 48 on the season. And the Nats have a two nothing lead. Josh Bell with runners at the corners. Look out in the Nats dugout that went flying over the head of Jacob Young and Then got somebody after bouncing off the back wall, Kert Ruiz, it’s ok. Bell out to center back is Merrill chasing after it at the edge of the track. He has it. Two runners will tag and move up Lowe in the second safely. Garcia scores and a very productive out for Josh Bell. Sacrifice fly to make it three nothing and put another runner in scoring position. Now 11 to House who hits one well over second, that will give the Nats another run. Nathaniel Lowe come to the plate. Not in time looked like it wasn’t going to be all that close in the end. A pretty tight play but the Nats make it four nothing on an RB I from Brady House. Riley Adams will pitch hit for Kert Ruiz. Now, adam is the eighth member of the nationals to bat in the inning and it’s a fly ball to right field back goes fernando on the track to make the catch and he settles into that right hand batter’s box to center Young going back still going. It’s gone. Manny Machado with his 13th of the year. Padres on the board. That was an 02 pitch too crushed it 14 off the bat of Manny Machado. Here’s gavin sheets off the pitcher kicks out and off of Abrams to second base and reaching will be gavin sheets with two outs. Slaughter ricochets there that will bring up Jose Iglesias with a man on and two down off line. Drive out to right. Dan Lyle reads it well and Mitchell Parker bounces back nicely. One and two on CJ. Now. Drive over Machado at third. A baby CJ Abrams aboard for the second straight time. That’s going to be the night. Coli leaving after 80 pitches runner on first one out James Wood against top spin grounder through the right side this time and easy. First to third for CJ and James Wood two for three in his debut here at Petco Park. Here’s Luis Garc-a Junior extended his hitting streak to 12 games his last time and now he’s going to pick up another hit right back up the box drives in CJ to make it 51. Luis Garc-a Junior on a tear over the last two weeks. And now here’s Nathaniel Lowe line out to right. That’ll fall in front of Tatis four straight singles for the Nats and they’re loaded for Josh Bell Bell. A line drive over short that will score another make that five straight singles for the Nats who are pouring it on here in San Diego. Josh Bell’s third right handed hit of the season. 02. How swings and misses strike three. He did not and that same exact change up to strike him out for the second out of the inning that gets him looking to put an end to the takes ball four brings up CJ who scored in back to back innings CJ. A ground ball, I’ll get past Iglesias and to right choice. Good choice throwing behind Young after he slammed on the brakes. Now, James Wood who has singled and scored in each of the last two frames. Both runners go this ball gets away from Diaz Young going to give a look after he slides into third but he will stop there infield in all the way around and a swing and a Miss Brian Holy makes his padre debut swing and a miss and he struck him out to end the inning. Hudson Merrill leads it off here for San Diego. Merrill hits it sharply into right center field. Second hit of the night for Jackson Merrill. Good start to the bottom of the sixth inning. Luisa rise out to deep right. Dale Lyle drifting with it at the wall. He makes the catch, Dale Lyle robbing extra bases and maybe more from Luis Araiz runner at 1st and 2nd with two down. Gavin shoots a chance here line in the left field. A base hit from second base comes Merrill. It’s now 6 to 2 RB I single for gavin. She Iglesias out to left center Jacob Young after it calls off James Wood and makes the play Jay Kronor leading it off and he drives on to a Jeep right center field back goes Lyle and that ball is gone. Jake Korth connects on his sixth of the year. It’s now 6 to 3. Well, staying in the game was Parker. That was pitch number 96 and that one leaves the yard Davey wanted the lefty lefty matchup there with Parker and cronenworth, it backfires and now to the pen lined out to left James Wood back steadies himself and makes the catch. Brad Lord does tremendous work retiring Diaz Tatis and Merrill in order two on and two out with James Wood coming up, wood crushes one to deep. Right? If it’s fair, it’s gone. Fair ball. It’s out of here just inside the foul pole. James Wood launches again on this road trip number 22 against his old organization. James Wood makes him pay his first game at Petco Park and he homers. So here comes Josh Bell overall. He’s one for three with two RB I as Bell smokes one to deep left this balls way out of here. Second deck for Josh Bell and that adds in the double digits. It’s 10 to 3 elevate to celebrate Josh Bell. We didn’t say go with the eyes and back to back knocks for the Padres to begin in the bottom of the ninth inning two down in the ninth and the Padres to be left up to fernando Junior to try and keep this thing going high. Drive to center field, going back, go andres are not dead yet. Fernando Tatis Jr.. Homers on his bobblehead night. Kyle Finnegan needs one out to put the finishing touches on this one popped up right side in his daily Lyle and the Nats win game one from San Diego.

  1. Even though I could never hate a team more than I hate the dodgers, I still love hating the padres and enjoying the repeating cycle of talking big and then being a above average team at best in a division where you canโ€™t compete with a team thatโ€™s not elite or determined enough to will their way to wins
