Dallas Braden literally just introduced John Fisher and the Rob Manfred shovel committee, but many think Dallas is off-limits for criticism.
Dallas is now just as fair of a target as say, Dave Kaval once was for helping Mr. Fisher whitewash this relocation.
Let me disprove the below one by one
1. Dallas needs a job and is providing for his family.
Dallas is a multi-millionaire per his own words. He is quite qualified, but is choosing to work for the guy who is ripping our team from us.
Dallas interests are aligned with the billionaires, not Oakland fans.
2. Dallas is helping Las Vegas children!
Those kids are meat shields wearing A's hats.
Baseball wasn't banned in Las Vegas like the town in Footloose. Bryce Harper, LV resident, said this himself.
Can those kids buy seasons tickets? You are a fool if you think Manfred and JF care about kids LOL. They just abandoned a whole fanship worth of kids, they do not care.
3. Dallas is a nice guy, lay off.
He literally just introduced Rob Manfred and John Fisher. What does he need to do to convince you he is not your friend? Literally spit in your face?
Dallas might be a nice guy, but he is a textbook sellout.
Dallas is not one of us, he is one of them.

100% right.

Dallas made it clear as much as he could while still being employed by the A’s his frustrations with letting players walk (semien), blowing up the roster because Fisher is a cheap fuck and leaving Oakland.
If he wants to continue being the color commentator for the A’s beyond Oakland or even Sacramento that’s his choice and he’s going to have to do this media shit as part of his job.
These are valid points. For me, it’s hard to see Dallas embrace Vegas (or whatever future this organization has) when he was the team’s biggest cheerleader in Oakland. I know he was torn up about the departure last season; he’s clearly made peace with that if he’s willing to promote whatever’s going on now.
I will always appreciate what Dallas did with the team as a player and broadcaster while in Oakland, but I’m not a fan of him going forward if this is the direction he’s chosen.
And as always, FJF!
I cant believe how sad and pathetic this sub is. No reminiscing about the fond memories, just a bunch of woe is me posts of misery and hate.
I think Dallas is mature enough to appreciate the A’s for what it stands for, not for what they currently are. And I think that allegiance is commendable and just. I think he’s being more diplomatic than sellout. And he can still disagree with JF overall.
Braden got paid $7.5 million for a 26-36 career record and a career WAR of 5. Dining out on the Hungover Perfect Game forever 🙂
Go listen to him on his podcast from last Thursday. He made his displeasure with the situation very vocal for the first time ever on there. I don’t think he’s one of them, he’s a Stockton guy that feels it like anyone else. It’s his job to call games and cover for ownership on tv. It seems like he really has fun calling games. You just want him to quit his job because of something totally out of his control?
Yeah, it’s a lot harder to defend someone with the “he’s just doing his job” when he made around $8M playing baseball by the age of 28. That’s not exactly retire rich money, but it isn’t far off. Well managed, you certainly wouldn’t ‘have to’ work in order to live pretty well. I don’t think Dallas makes a whole lot of money announcing, but it’s would be enough to help you protect your investments by not eating into the interest/capital gains just for daily cost of living stuff. So, that said, I would guess he could easily replace that income with a non-MLB job if he actually had a spine… For instance, I’m sure he could open a a little baseball instructional facility for kids and do well. With travel ball being so popular in the area, the market for high level private or semi-private lessons is huge.
Whatever you might think, Dallas was loyal as hell to Oakland. He was with us standing in the crowd at the reverse boycott and was in tears on a podcast when it was announced that the A’s were leaving. I hate the move to Vegas as much as anybody, but Dallas is not to blame.
Dallas doesn’t have a choice, but we all do. Yes, that little Las Vegas kids smile…was once our smile, tossing a ball to the kids between innings were our memories, the choice between orange & black or green & gold was our choice, we became fans for 50 yrs + and then Dallas claimed the weather changed??? We believed they cared, yeah “Rooted in Oakland” We were all-day suckers! My heart goes out to Dallas, Stew and Rollie and the others, it’s their choice, it’s lively hood but I’ll never go that route. So sad to watch our generational heroes suck up to these events knowing that they’re starting this sad story one more time. Yes, they made us smile, they brought us joy with their hustle and victories and sorrow w/losses on the field and off, and they’ve become forever a heartbreak for many of us. FJF!

Also, and this is strictly regarding his work in the booth, he’s insufferable. Paired with Cavnar and what used to be an almost daily routine of watching A’s games has now gone out the window. I ain’t wasting my time being ear-tortured.
So why then with his cryptic post yesterday with the peace sign?
Dude needs to up his grooming habits.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Is this a circlejerk or are you really this unhinged?
Capitalism doesn’t care about loyalty.
He is not one of them. Yes, he’s a company employee and has to delicately walk the company line, which he has said. As much as it’s easy for any redditor to say “you’re a millionaire- go retire or work for another team.” That’s so ridiculous. The dude loves baseball and wants to be around the game. Aside from the fact color commentator jobs don’t grow on trees- the A’s are still the A’s, for better or worse. Are they still the *Oakland* A’s? No, but they are still the same franchise that Dallas grew up rooting for, playing for, and later working for. You think we have a connection to the team? Imagine how he feels.
Hmm, I don’t know. I wish he’d walk away. That goes the same for Ken Korach.
Who gives a shit? The team is gone, it’s not coming back no matter if Braden nukes his broadcasting career or not. Some people really need to move on.
Dallas can do whatever he wants just as much as we’re free to criticize his actions. He can say how much it’s hurt him, and can justify staying with the team with a thousand different reasons, but the very fact he’s staying is him being complicit.
To what degree that matters to folks is up to them. I just don’t think you’re getting taken seriously if you think he’s free from blame or indistinguishable from Cavnar. He’s a corporate mouthpiece for a team he’s loved and worked with all his life, it’s not as black and white as some of you want to make it out to be.

My 1st thought when I saw him.
We all know he is, at heart, against this horrible move. If you can’t see that and hear that when he speaks, I/the baseball community can’t help you
Wrong, he’s a poor pawn in the situation, read up on his interviews over the last week and you’ll c that he has to do this, it’s not what he wants
