javier Bayz well Boo there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does i mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me i know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not glabber Torres in the box with one away as he takes ball one one out base is empty fast call for a strike and a count even one and one gets the outside corner with that one so far all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count let’s do it fights that one away still one and two and now the lefty outside with a breaking ball well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat i’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter that one ripped and it’s caught for the out man that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your expanding what you’re looking for covering both sides and with the stuff pitchers have today you’re just not going to have a lot of success and that misses and it’s three and 0 fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires i mean you see them a lot yeah B they’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level so when you respect that I think over time you can develop a relationship with them and a foul ball as the game has moved along we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires i’ve been in clubous where they have pictures of all four guys nicknames hometowns and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit that’s great gorella steps in first pitch Dingler it’s been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza line so far this month and there’s a foul ball hey you got this outside low and it’s one and one one and one to first and he breaks for second to second and he’s out and the inning is over we’ll move to the third with no score back here in Detroit top half of the third inning and here is Lawrence Butler this is a batter right here who really produces in these night games and we saw the latest example of it in his first AB and that is out of play detroit that one ripped but foul the two in the air out to center that one gets down for a hit had a good start to the inning well I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock jacob Wilson getting ready to hit struck out swinging his first time runner on the go swing and a miss throw save that’s a stolen base you know what i like the aggressiveness right there it looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one really good pitching so far so why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag get in the scoring position the 01 that’s good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken back you jog back to the dugout well here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hard the order coming up right behind them this is where boo aggressive and it paid off lightning fast hands to be able to hit that velocity fast ball on the inside part of the plate in my experience when you’re looking out over the plate allowing the ball to travel it’s pure reaction to hit a pitch in that location that’s a tremendous swing and now Luis Rias Torres sizing this one up hauls it in for the out and there’s two away that’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we don’t know those can be a little tricky especially if the wind’s swirling around out there two outs space is empty here’s the left fielder Tyler chance that his club can win this ball game and that drops in for a strike well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn’t pull the trigger and center fielder gold glove caliber type out there offensively he can do some things but you know also has some streakiness as well i think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out you know he saves runs in the outfield so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish ball for a strike and the next pitch is way outside that one missing inside have timed it up any better than that and man I’ll tell you a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good it’s feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it wel Perez up now for the Tigers first pitch misses [Applause] that’s a should definitely score it and that one is lifted in the air and it falls and they hold him at third 90 ft away with two outs two consecutive base hits for these guys here i don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it at the towards left center drops into the glove runner tagging from third it’s a Zack fly as he comes across to score and they lead by three there you go nice little RBI there it’s a great at bat got the job makes the grab one away it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control well I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and it drops in so the one out hit turns the lineup over oh yeah now heat up in a game i think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach figure out how they’re beating him make this adjustment really quick because Word will get around the delivers in a huge spot right there oh he’s so dialed in i don’t think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there very easy swing nice and relaxed this is the type of approach you want to see corner for a strike [Applause] swing and a miss and that’s strike two well that’s that slurp right there he threw it extremely well talk about just a ton of break so tough to get that barrel to the next offering misses ball two [Applause] fouled off and they’ll do it again runner in scoring position nobody out here in the bottom half of the eighth inning swing and a miss struck him out up next good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed way inside and that hit him boo that wasn’t even close you know sometimes a guy will barely miss the zone and hit someone but right there he completely lost the handle and that’s when it gets a little scary [Applause] keith in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike and that one almost got him two on two outs fouled off left side [Applause] and a swing and a miss and that’s that two men left stranded but they do push across one ninth inning coming up it’s the Tigers five and the Athletics four now pitching the roundabout is the closer Will well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we’ll see what he’s got here so they’re making a move for a bat off the bench jj Blade oh last chance for him here hoping he can be a catalyst for some type of ninth inning comeback [Applause] that one misses that’s ball one here’s a batter who for whatever reasons plays better on the road and that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game tell you what that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs [Applause] butler up to bat next lays off for a ball one-run game here in the top of the ninth [Applause] gets the call and now it’s even one and one well so many hardth throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don’t know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen so hard to play catchup that one inside two balls in a strike [Applause] in there at the knees for a strike 3-2 now and that’s awfully close i don’t know how you take that he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now jacob Wilson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] down the left field line looks like extra bases green hurries it back in as the tying run is forced to stop at second love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way one out runner at second jacob Wilson up next for the A’s one for four with a double and that one is inside so the tying run at second and that’s ripped for a base hit throw comes in quickly and the tying run forced to hold on at third with one away oh that’s a good hold by the third base coach you don’t want to run yourself out of the ball game less than two outs you still got another couple of opportunities to get that tying run in big at bat from Brent Rooker now outfielders playing shallow corners are in trying to cut down the runner at third puts a bunt down torres over to first now only one out remaining oh the safety squeeze can be tough to defend especially with a good runner at third you can’t risk trying to be overly aggressive and make a play at the plate and give up that easy out at first so the go-ahehead run in scoring position next up for the A’s Nick Curts he’s already homered in this game [Applause] ball one there two down go ahead run and score in position slow roll into first and that goes fouled ball game is still tied they can get out of this inning with a tie game man on second two down swings and misses and it’s one and two clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fault him for his commitment now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes [Applause] this one lifted in the air left field makes the grab and that’s the third out so a ninth inning comeback here and this game has been flipped on its head we’re all tied up 55 [Applause] back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth TJ McFarland athletic this softball has been really good against left-handed there to take a rip at he wants to get his arms extended he likes the ball away from him a little bit just not able to square it up high in the air out to right wicker gets under it and there’s one down now batting designated hitter Carrie Carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers outside low and that’s ball one [Applause] and another ball all tied up here in the last half of inning number nine that’s a ball went with the sweeper riley Green in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here that one’s in there and the count is three and one [Applause] there’s the strike it’s a hitter you don’t know what to expect here in the 3-2 if he’ll throw a breaking ball 3-1 he’ll do it again 3-2 foul ball and it remains a full count and a swing and a miss two gone now batting left field and next will be the Tiger cleanup hitter Bradley Green 0 for four with four strikeouts and that one is downstairs ball one [Applause] that was the sweeper but it missed it’s getting squeezed a little bit here late there’s the strike good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone hard to get the barrel to it and the next pitch is way outside you get to this part of the order yeah there’s some pop there but more likely there are some base hits so very important to be patient let the pitcher walk you if you will trying to send this extra innings and that one clips the corner count foul we’ll see another payoff pitch hanging in there pretty good against the lefty 3-2 swing and a miss that’s the third out and we’ll play extra innings in this one down in order go the Tigers this ball game still tied five all back here in Detroit we’re in extras here now it’s the second baseman Luis Ras vest back to work a bit behind with that swing it’s strike one well a come and get me fast ball right there he didn’t look ready for the velocity i think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here next on the RBI single it’s now 65 you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back now and on the mound a closer Mason Miller and I can’t imagine any save is an easy one for you runner in scoring position no outs torqulson getting ready to hit out to short wilson throws to first in time one out the bottom of the 10th now batting the right fielder Winsel Perez so up next Wel Perez now Boo this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win that misses ball one [Applause] so the tying run at second next pitch in for a strike and a count one and one [Applause] and that is out of play trying to close out a one-run lead and the home team trying to pull it out [Applause] got him looking for the strike out and they’re down to their last out well even if you don’t feel great about it you’ve got to swing the bat with two strikes in this situation you’ve got the tying run out there in scoring position just put the ball in play maybe something good will happen it just didn’t look like he understood the situation so it’s their last chance in this one dylan Dingler digs in now and the first pitch misses for ball one a oneun lead here in extra innings [Applause] outside loan and it’s two and 0 well triple digits on the gun i know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past but it’s still impressive to watch that one in triple digits [Applause] that one not close and that’s ball three parker Meadows in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here with the tying run at second winning run at the plate and we’re in the last half of the 10th next offering is in for a strike the Tigers down to their final strike popped up to the left into foul ground and that’ll do it the A’s hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game well this is a big win on the road and going extras into 10 uh so hard to pull those out but I think this team did a great job of keeping the crowd out of the ball game late when you can do that it kind of calms everything down keeps the adrenaline of the opposing team down a bit and you can steal a win and get out of here happy
