and welcome in everybody glad you’re with us we’ve got baseball on the show it’s the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels all right we’ll be back to get this one started after this so just about set now today’s starting pitcher Kyle Hendris what should we keep an eye on here well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side and a foul ball [Music] [Applause] breaking ball this is down and away one and one swing and a ball lifted in the air dives and he can’t hang on around first and hustling for second he’s in there number 51 he enters the game as the injury replacement taking over in right field runner in scoring position no outs and the batter now Roman Anthony and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter come on Kyle and that one fouled off punch him out [Applause] [Music] finish him swings through that one it’s a strike out well clearly just anxious right there and understandably so an 02 count you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out that’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone it’s too late to hold up your swing and now Romy Gonzalez that misses ball one ball one no strikes man at second hit hard on the ground is short throws to first in time time now to check out the lineup for the Boston Red Sox one thing these players do very well is stay out of the double play they’ve hit into the fewest of any team in the league chris well Boo we don’t see situational hitting as that art as much as we used to because hitters are slugging the ball they’re hitting it over the fence but when you see a team that has the ability to shorten up hit behind runners and go first to third or first to home man that just adds to the element of what you’re able to do in other ways with the bat so opposing pitcher better not walk anybody or give them free base runners because these hitters know what to do when runners are on let’s go come on Anaheim and a curb misses outside one of my favorite stats all time 1997 the Hall of Famer Craig Bio played in all 162 games for the Astros on Astro Turf and he never hit into a double play [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] two outs and it’s even up that’s inside and that’s the strike out looking frozen with the heater at the knees a double in the inning but they leave him stranded now the Angels will get their first crack at no score [Applause] back here at Angel Stadium and today’s starting pitcher Lucas Gilo and singing we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots well no doubt about it he’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down now he’s got good stuff he’s just got to be able to have confidence trust it and really go after hitters not nibble trust that his stuff can have late life in Miss Barrel’s at bats swinging a foul straight back that’s off the inside corner now two balls in a strike [Applause] looked like it was a little bit up late with the swing there four count three and two that’s a good at bat right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk batting second first baseman nolan Shadowwell the next to hit seems like he’s making contact with everything lately working on a fivegame hitting streak right through there for a strike gelito in his eighth season he features a four seam fast a change up a slider and he occasionally uses a curve next offering is downstairs the pitch can’t it cleanly still able to fire over and they get him the misplay made it a bit messy but they clean things up for the out okay let’s check out the lineup needless to say this is an aggressive lineup they’ve drawn fewer walks than any other team in the league i didn’t walk very much but I’ll tell you what it drives me a little crazy to see it i mean we’re in this modern era of baseball and we know how important walks are you get runners on base they end up leading the runs but this whole lineup just seems to be made up of players who come to the dish they don’t have a plan they come unglued right away you’ve got to make that pitcher work a little bit more it’s not like you’re going to get a steady diet of meatballs all game long hacktastic might be the way to describe it [Applause] so two balls and no strikes he’s clearly trying to work him away here both pitches off the plate if you really want to put the ball in play you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field next pitch is outside get ready for some action here good RBI guy at the plate runners in scoring position and a hitter count [Applause] bottom of the zone and a cold strike next offering is fouled back [Music] three and two payoff pitch gets a piece there we’ll do it again he’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up let’s see if he can elevate one i think if he does he’ll get the swing and miss here comes a 3-2 stays alive ninth pitch of the at bat do next and ball four to a board well they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second they’ve set up a double play opportunity so not a terrible result two on one out ward getting ready to hit just missed hitter’s got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit [Applause] yeah that’s fouled off ranifo the lead runner out at second trapped at first one gone swing and a miss one and two see if he can go upstairs a little bit make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two don’t miss waves at the bender for the strike out oh that’s a curve ball that I’m sure he wants back at the plate two strikes the sort of pitch you’re hoping for a bit of a mistake and I’d say in a very hitable location but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through it so in now for the Angels Logan Ohappy really bringing some thump at the plate lately three homers already in this series and there’s a ball [Applause] and a one swinging a foul out of play i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up next offering upstairs could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming two aboard two outs [Applause] strike two and there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing a run two strike swing and a miss he struck him out went back to the change up and it was successful this guy competes hard we see the emotion there i love it great job of getting out of the jam back in Anaheim now batting Jiren Durant he’s already set a new career best for stolen bases in a season chris Hris back to work and that’s in for a strike and one [Applause] that is out of play the two good eye right there excellent arm action on that two strike change up just missed man he wanted that call and now it’s even up he’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here i love it rip towards third lead off man retired here in the second [Applause] batting six shortstop Trevor Story here’s Trevor Story good defender he’s been inconsistent offensively way high there one and0 and another ball eric Summersgill with home plate duty in this one kind of known for being generous with the corners Chris you know I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches but yeah we’ll see if those corners come into play in this one hey no pitchers going to argue at all and that’s through there for a strike looks like he’s just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a pitch that he turns on the ground into the outfield base hit so a man aboard now with one away once you get the ball by the pitcher there’s a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground balls so a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit one down next a switch hitting first baseman Abraham Toro that misses the zone ball one [Music] [Applause] story on the move pitch misses and six there he It’s a stolen base you know what i like the aggressiveness right there it looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one really good pitching so far so why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag get in the scoring position line drive base hit story on his way home he scores and they have the lead it’s an RBI single one- nothing well does a great job of letting that runner steal second base get in the scoring position come through with the base knock you add a run man at first with one gone and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Son Raphaela that one’s in there strike one man at first one away [Applause] and a swing and miss sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss if he makes contact with that pitch probably hits into a double play and ball one that’s inside [Applause] on the ground to the left and it goes just fouled one run across in the frame so far here in the top of the second that misses the zone and it’s two and two [Applause] and that’s downstairs and outside [Music] [Applause] on the ground left side six four out three double play and the inning is over and welcome back to the ballpark ready to go for the last half of the inning here’s the center fielder Joe Adele and he takes the strike dangerous spot for that slider right there didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again that one lifted to left under it he makes the grab and there’s one away just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left now this is in the air down the line anthony sizes this one up and there’s two away batting eight the shorts stop Kevin the batter now Kevin Newman [Applause] misses outside and it’s one and0 two out space is empty hit weakly on the ground ref snider gets it to first third out angels go down one two three still behind by a count of one to nothing and we’re back here’s the left fielder number 40 number 40 right through there for a strike [Applause] fall off foul and that misses and the count is one and two pretty standard high O2 fast ball right there if you’re smart they’ll look for something down in the zone but not too far don’t want to chase that break in the dirt got him swinging he chased the change up and he’s registered three Ks in this one beat him inside on that last pitch and when you look back at the pitch sequence on that strikeout it’s pretty interesting away in away and then back in again really commanded both sides of the plate right there and that makes it pretty tough to get comfortable in the box now the third baseman Rob Ref Snider and it’s fouled away one out base is empty now one inside just misses the mark outside the zone really good take especially with two strikes [Music] [Applause] foul ball another 2-2 upcoming and he hits a ground ball right side and foul ball he hasn’t gotten the result yet but he’s got to feel pretty confident three foul balls in a row he’s right on this pitcher strike three and that’s two in a row he’s really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled two outs space is empty now the number two hitter Roman Anthony struck out swinging his first time and a breaking ball drops in for a strike next offer is in for a strike quickly down 02 in the count i think you got to choke up a little bit spread out the feet you don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be hendrickx delivers breaking ball misses down and away i don’t know how you take that one after the cold strike on the corner just a little bit off the edge next pitch downstairs two and two great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two such a better feeling for the hitter fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts nothing doing for Boston but they still lead it one- nothing back here at Angel Stadium set for the bottom of the third so in now for the Angels Christian Moore and that one is downstairs and that’s ball one strike one i think he was sitting off speed there one line drive and foul ball bows that off to the left and will do it again one and two here swing it a ground ball story sends it over to first leadoff hitter gone in the third up next for the Angels third base back to the top of the Angels lineup and now it’s switchhitting third baseman Luis Rangifo let off the bottom of the first with a walk that’s in there and that’s strike one just missed was good pitch there billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout short hop liner handled it short tosses to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third now batting first baseman Nolan now at the plate Nolan Showell first time up he grounded to third next offering pop foul off to the right out of play that’s in there that’s excellent location on the fast ball right there early in this game if he can do that all game should be a good outing for him foul ball it stays nothing and two two down doon foul ball still 0 and two that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was just off the inside corner and that’s ball one well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat i’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter [Music] yeah the one two misses to even the count ninth pitch of the at bat do next next offering way off the plate wow this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run i love his tenacity liner base hit and that means Mike Trout will have a chance to hit a late jump and I think that was the difference on the playback it’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat something to improve now Trout gets a chance to hit he reached out to walk his first time great speed and great power a great athlete quite simply [Applause] he’s like Mike Trout you figure whatever you put in his hand whether it’s a bat whether it’s a golf club whether it’s a basketball he can do it and get it done and a rare talent so much fun to watch in the dirt tying run is a first here in the last half of the third strike two man he was really tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can’t catch up that misses and the count is even two and two tap back to the mound throw over to Toro and that ends the inning angels strand one they’re down one- nothing back in Anaheim out of the fourth and stepping in for Boston Romy Gonzalez come on let’s go let’s score gonzalez 28 years old and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss you know these Red Sox showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one he’s only given up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense and a one-1 and misses inside you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today and a ground ball to first he takes it on his own and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution and next will be the cleanup hitter Carlos Narvz he was a strikeout victim his first time up the middle fires over to first two quick outs here in the top of the fourth now batting designated hitter Jiren Duran two down base is empty next is the designated hitter Jiren Durant and he lays down a bunt has to bare hand it and he beats it that’s a hit great try there nearly a highlight reel play at third but the bare hand grab still wasn’t enough to get the out great effort to make that play as close as it was though we’re under at first with two away here’s Story now one for one with a single so far oh he doesn’t get the call and that is ball one durant the runner at first with two gone angels all right Angel next offering is down low chris with that distraction and the speedy guy at first he’s in a favorable hitter’s count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in hendrickx throws over and he’s back in easily inside just missed he hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day he’s in danger of walking his first batter right here [Applause] swinging a highfly ball out towards right field he’s there he’s got it and that is that so no runs here on a base hit no errors and one left we’re midway in the fourth it’s the Red Sox one and the Angels nothing and welcome back to the ballpark John Shabi and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Taylor War that one finds the zone it’s on one he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball no balls two strikes misses one and two to count and a swing and a miss that K is his third of the game definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there i don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage ripped on a line brings it in two away man that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat adele takes a ball as he stands in for the second time two down nobody on we’re here in the bottom of the fourth swinging a ground ball up the middle on the run throw to first on the money nice play angels go quietly there they trail here one- nothing and we’re back new inning getting started and here’s the first baseman Abraham Toro hris back to work and that’s downstairs ball one ball one no strikes late swing fouled to the left that one to first Shaneell and he handles it himself for the out up next for the Red Sox center fielder Sidon Raphaela sidon Raphaela up next for the Red Sox he hit into a double play his first time up angeles he’s been going after these guys consistently and as a result he’s been able to keep his pitch count low throwing the ball very well right now line drive come on it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control number 40 next to hit takes ball one [Music] [Applause] a swing and a miss and that’s strike one got one ball one strike and there’s a foul ball [Music] [Music] the one two swing and a tapper tosses to first red Sox go one two three three up three down for him there last half of the fifth coming up it’s the Red Sox one and the Angels nothing we head to the bottom of the fifth now here is number 51ielder and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike and I know you want to be patient as a hitter but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight and he got one right there but let the bat on his shoulder that one in the dirt and one and one [Applause] just missed two one strike hey Two balls two strikes that one miss expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball something in his own because he does not want to allow the lead off wall swing and a miss struck him out in plenty of time to first and the lead off set down in their half of the fifth this guy will throw any pitch in any count 32 he goes off speed gets the out kevin Newman the next to hit for the Angels 0 for one so far win and that drops in for a strike the Red Sox with some bullpen action garrick Crochet the left-hander up and throwing bernardino getting cranked up as well one down base is empty that one not close one and one [Applause] the one-1 is fouled off two two count [Applause] on the inside corner for called strike three well just excellent location on that inside fast ball really locked him up and as a hitter it’s not typically what you’re looking for you’re trying to protect away and then in so you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball but either way that’s a really nice pitch next to hit Christian Moore the Red Sox up by a run last half of inning number five highfly ball out to center field raphaela puts it away that is the inning back here at Angel Stadium top six and now it’s going to be Rob Re snider and the first offering a fast ball for a strike well we call that keyhole even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count on the ground now one gone in the top of the six now batting right fielder Roman Anthony and now the right fielder Roman Anthony bowl for two in this one [Music] just missed [Music] [Applause] and that drops in for a strike [Music] [Applause] ripped to right no trouble here puts it away for the out two down [Applause] so up next Romy Gonzalez he’s grounded out a couple of times on the ground right side showell takes it to the bag and it’s a one two three inning three up three down that time top of the order do up in the home half of the six it’s the Red Sox one and the Angels nothing back in Anaheim now here is Luis Reanifo [Applause] fouled off he was late [Music] [Applause] off the mark there and the count even one and one swings through that one out in front that time boston’s bullpen with some activity zack Kelly up and loosening in the pen wilson also getting ready [Applause] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt in time to get him one away in the strike out now batting first base and here is Nolan Shadowwell one for two [Applause] this one smoked out to left they got it for out number two now batting designated hitter and now batting Mike Trout he’s 0 for one he is quite an athlete i mean you look around the other sports basketball football you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports too drilled in the air high and deep right field going back on this one makes the catch up against the wall make it six shut out innings for him out there now it’s the Red Sox one and the Angels nothing new pitcher in the game for the Angels Jack Kachan coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very good [Applause] well one run game joel stepping in for Boston carlos Narvz foul ball there coachitz goes 6 feet 7 in 230 lbs and he was a third round pick back in 2019 movement in the bullpen punter Strickland appears to be getting loose brogden also throwing swings and misses one and two this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt and the lead off hitter sat down to open the seven now betting designated headings Jiren Durant now it’s the DH Jiren Durant in there for strike one [Applause] and delivers outside base is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven headed towards the corner automatic double now as it hops the wall in foul ground well there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that you get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty and now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well one out runner at second trevor Story up next for the Red Sox the shortstop takes a ball one and one liner and this could be trouble durant rounds third headed for the plate he’ll score and he’ll pull into second safely well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win one out runner at second and now here is Abraham Toro swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field adele tracks it down for the out every day during batting practice these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps they practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly next to hit Son Raphaela he’s a guy Chris’s highlights include some of the best throws from the outfield that you will ever see definitely one of the best arms of the sport first pitch and he just misses yeah the infielders and the catcher can never give up on a play because if this guy thinks he has a chance he’s going to throw it from the warning track if he has to and another ball two balls no pressure fouled off left side [Applause] man on second two down that one fouled off spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another Red Sox leading it by two that’s the third and that’s a fair ball coming home he’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and they take a threerun lead big bats have had their lead up to three just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline that’s really excellent back control and it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tee where it’s placed in different spots that was just nice and now they’ve got some speed on first so we’ll see if they try to get him into motion and that one fouled off raphaela off of first with two away [Applause] hey no balls two strikes he goes down looking two runs three hits no errors and one left midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch it’s the Red Sox three and the Angels nothing now pitching we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh zack Kelly he last pitched two days ago and now Taylor Ward who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts taking high in the draft he’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level worm burner into the outfield for a knock and they had their first base runner since the third inning man those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever such a good feeling wasn’t able to elevate that one but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield well there’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that logan O’Hap the next to hit for the Angels gets the strike that was the sweeper now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game nobody out runner at first swings and misses went back to the sweeper and it was effective good pitch right there i mean he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with and there’s just so much information in this day and age sometimes too much information but the guys that can take that information process it and then go out there boo and execute the pitch go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating that’s really good pitching right there and it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together and now the count is even [Applause] yeah that’s fouled off the Angels trailing by three here in the bottom of the seventh to the right side and that’s just fouled fights it off he’ll see another the one two swag and a miss struck him out two gone oh interesting he’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single backto- back strike out so they haven’t been able to move that runner up get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring i tell you good job so far on the mound he just needs one more out number 51 in the box here lets that one go for a ball next offering is in for a strike well this looks like it’s going to be a wasted opportunity it’s frustrating when you get the leadoff man on but you can’t get him into scoring position they’re going to need a big knock try to put something up on the board that misses the zone now two balls in a strike and that one is inside kevin Newman waiting in the on deck circle they can get him up he’d represent the tying run so critical pitch right here you see the velocity 97 with that fast ball and he walked him and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate oh very close with the location right there it’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Red Sox bullpen zack Kelly is done it’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute now pitching for new pitcher coming on the veteran Justin Wilson and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year the numbers stack up with some of the best in the game kevin Newman will hit next here he is in a spot where he makes most of his money against left-handed pitching [Applause] check swing called strike and it’s 0 and one [Applause] and that one is inside ball one first and second two down [Music] [Applause] and that is in there for a strike i believe that’s the split runs it up to 96 to record the punch out he’s in a tough spot had to make a great pitch did it got the strike out gets out of the jam clearly he’s happy with those results now pitching for welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth jose Soraniano and compared to a lot of other relievers strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense should be active back to the top of the order now here’s the third baseman Rob Ref Snider that’s a little high ball one you know these Red Sox really impressed me with the quality of their bats in this one it’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work the numbers help tell the story i mean they’ve been sitting fast ball and it’s paying off in a big way so far with six hits against that pitch alone swinging a miss now he’s in a one-two hole and that’s a great way for a lineup to dominate a game because if a pitcher can’t rely on his fast ball to get outs I mean that puts a lot of pressure on the rest of his pitches to be effective [Applause] sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single now batting right fielder Roman Anthony so digging in Roman Anthony 0 for three in this one there’s the strike [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that misses and it’s a ball and a strike activity in the bullpen for the Angels hector Nerys getting ready to go burke the power lefty up as well ref Snider gets his lead at first with nobody out here’s the pitch runner goes so a foul ball makes it one and two [Applause] swing and a miss and he got him one out oh tough night at the dish punching out for the third time right there he just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate a little unsure of his timing right now not picking up the spin and location of these pitches he’ll have some adjustments to make gonzalez batting with one down takes a strike [Applause] swing and a miss oh that’s that slope right there threw it extremely well talk about just a ton of break so tough to get that barrel to and the pitch is outside ball one [Music] [Applause] swings and misses and there are two down up next Carlos Nvid now at the plate [Applause] pitch misses and it’s one and0 and a strike one ball one strike [Applause] and that one hit 97 on the gun boo he never moved cuz he never had time to with that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away ground ball left side slings it across out number three and the Red Sox leave one but they lead it three nothing and we’re back and now Christian Moore the Halos in striking distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the laid off man i need a good at bat out of him right here come on swing and a fly ball well struck left field makes the catch for the out almost a loud start to the at that lead because if it gets to the ninth that closer’s coming in first offering and it just misses and that’s downed away lefty continues to work but the closer getting loose in the bullpen that’s in there and it’s two and one now well in this one the offense has sputtered somebody’s got to find a way to get on keep the line moving and manufacture at least one run then maybe you get two or three swings and misses at the pitch off the plate two strikes that’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going the Red Sox leading by three here the bottom half of the eighth inning into left center for a base hit got to love the resiliency he showed in that bat battling with two strikes so much of good hitting is finding holes in the defense that’s why you’re always thinking line drive into the gap those kinds of swings really boost your confidence now a chance for Nolan Showell line drive base hit they fired in quickly so it’s first and second with only one away well clearly he was ready to hit right there that pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay now that sets up a huge atbat in this ball game here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move justin Wilson departs and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this now pitching pitching change here garrett Whit number well he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season averaging more than one per inning first and second one out here’s Trout you got to feel like there’s a pretty good chance this game is going to turn on one swing missed with a change up and that’s ball one the tying run at the plate swaming a drive deep right field that one back gone he sends one out batting here’s Joey Dell 0 for three a fly out a ground out and a strike out that one finds the zone that’s strike one if you’re a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in the scoring position [Music] [Applause] outside low and now it’s even one and one [Applause] comes up empty that’s strike two two gone the possible go ahead run at first next offering upstairs [Applause] base hit center field and that moves the go ahead run to score in position with two gone well I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Red Sox bullpen garrett Whitlock will depart and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout back with a new arm after a quick break now pitching new arm out of the bullpen garrett Crochet this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters so the go-ahehead run is into scoring position now it’s the right fielder and that misses off the outside edge [Applause] the lefty the one just missed oh at second adele on first with two down [Applause] that one down the line fair ball runner around third on his way to the plate he’ll score it’s an RBI single they lead it in the eight such great concentration everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn’t try to do too much first and second two outs kevin Newman digs in now 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out the short stop takes the ball two on two outs [Applause] the Red Sox with some bullpen action brennan Bernardino the southpaw is throwing and getting that sinker dialed in alcala the right-hander also getting loose [Applause] fast ball for a strike and that’s outside and it’s three and two at this point in the game you cannot issue free passes he’s going to have to challenge this hitter hitter’s got to be ready to swing it [Applause] foul ball left side he’ll see another [Applause] Ah ground ball and that’s through the infield headed to the plate now a long throw home it’s offline the run comes in and they take a two-run lead got the job done to put him up by two just a simple ground ball the other way they had eyes on it man sometimes that’s all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole and next for the Angels Christian Moore 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out that one misses one and0 [Applause] there’s the strike two outs couple of base runners at first and second swing and a ball popped in the air he’s going to fall for a hit grounds third headed to the plate he’ll score easily it’s an RBI single and they take a threerun lead puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI i don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wind on it so two outs with runners on the corners luis Rangifo the next to hit for the Angels runners at the corners with two outs [Applause] perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the wall he’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 [Applause] [Applause] lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes ends the inning after they racked up a bunch of runs so a great inning there as they bat around to score six times to open up the lead through eight full it’s the Angels six and the Red Sox three now pitching for back now and on the mound the closer Kennley Chans and I can’t imagine any save is an easy one you’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can so it’s always high stress let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out here now the Red Sox DH Jiren Durant [Applause] and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Applause] jansen fires and that one wrapped foul [Music] swing and a highf fly ball pretty well struck right field that ball’s carrying at the wall can’t make the catch but I think he brought it back he’s in with a double and that’s his second double of the ninth still able to come through behind in the count right there he got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point pretty impressive for an 02 count really important at bat coming up now here’s Trevor Story now on the ground to the left and it goes just fouled always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning runner at second nobody out [Applause] swing and a tapper that rolls foul not close with that one and the count one and two [Applause] and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] man at second and downstairs and that’s awfully close i don’t know how you take that he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now [Applause] gets a piece and stays alive runner in scoring position nobody out you’re in the top of the ninth still two and two after the foul ball [Applause] swinging a ground ball and foul ball [Applause] got him swinging now he’s two outs away and here is Abraham Toro right through there for a strike there it was oh here it is hit it he gets a take gets ahead in the count [Applause] swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone durant the runner at second with one away [Applause] and they’ll do it again [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and2 [Applause] that’s inside one [Applause] [Applause] That one misses and now two balls and two strikes good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at [Applause] strikes and they’re down to their last hour now take on [Applause] so the Red Sox down to their final out the batter now Sidon Raphaela [Applause] just missed counts one and0 [Applause] and there’s the strike [Applause] two outs and that’s off the outside edge and it’s two and one [Applause] they’re down to their final strike [Applause] this could end it [Applause] that’s a little bit low that turns out to be a really good take right there but you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder [Applause] foul ball and it remains a full count [Applause] bows it back with two strikes [Applause] hit hard on the ground to the right side and that’s just fouled pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss third foul ball in a row [Applause] hard grounder into the outfield for a knock coming home he will score and it’s an RBI single and now just a two-run deficit but when you see that many pitches in an at bat your chances of succeeding go up and right there we see the result here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen kenley Jansen done for the night two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher now pitching so they bring on the veteran Hunter Strickland should be a good first matchup for him here he’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up alex Cora turning to the bench for a new hitter willard Ara and he would be the tying run boo so we may see him try to launch one if he gets a good pitch to handle [Applause] rolled softly but that goes foul [Music] tying run at the plate top of the zone and it’s called a strike this is a good situation if you want to try to steal a base nine hitter and you’re about to turn this lineup over so get a little momentum as you turn it over inside and hit him that ball hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him stepping in Rob refer here come the rally caps it’s late but it’s far from over [Applause] that one the other way and a base hit right there coming home he’ll score and it’s an RBI single and now they trail by one waste no time there pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap and I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle so many positives that led to that knock now a huge at bat in this game coming up roman Anthony up next for the Red Sox swinging a foul out of play 01 now that crosses the plate and now they’re just one strike away from getting out of this mess action in the Angels bullpen hector Nery getting loose out there [Applause] right back to him on the mound for the first in time and this one is over and the Angels strand the go ahead run to hold on for the win yeah looked like the pitcher was getting into a little trouble there but quickly brought out a pitch that isn’t what most hitters are looking for with that great velocity but it was really good movement on the change up and a nice win today heat heat
