baltimore orioles will be playing the second game of a three-game series against the texas rangers at oriel park at camden yards in baltimore maryland how you doing everybody it’s ro pal the bird watcher here people call me bw for short and there’s something in my right eyeball sorry uh why does this never happen when you’re watching tv somebody starts a show and immediately gets something in their eye it only happens to me oh these need to get clean too this is a mess uh welcome to live coverage of orioles baseball the orioles are going to try to extend their win streak at home which is now at four games after winning the opener last night uh one of the more complete victories of the season and bw’s humble opinion well how humble can he be if he’s referring to himself in third person what a schmuck but no it was great uh trevor rogers pitched lights out eight shutout innings the best start of any pitcher on the orioles staff this season and uh we got some uh good hitting uh up and down the lineup over uh double digit hits jackson holiday with the big earl weaver home run uh six runs and 11 hits in total i believe was the amount and uh solid defense as well folks i mean a complete game uh a great way to get the bitter taste of the sunday loss against the yankees out of our mouths and move on cuz we got to folks there’s still more than half a season of baseball left to go in fact we will be hitting the halfway mark uh tonight is game number 80 is that right or 79 we are just about there game number 79 tonight game number 80 tomorrow night and then the first game against tampa on friday is game 81 so friday after that game finishes that’s your halfway point of the season folks uh oh i got to update this uh text at the bottom of the screen uh tomorrow by the way uh the orio we got some things to talk about but let me go ahead and uh let me go in here for a sec it’s uh what time is tomorrow’s game same time tomorrow’s game is same time okay jacob deg grom so folks tomorrow uh i’m kind of jumping all over the place but since i’m about to type it into the text here might as well bring it up tomorrow it looks like tomyuki sagano will have his start bumped uh maybe for just a day uh not quite sure on that yet but uh it looks like brandon young who uh made a couple starts for us earlier in the season had an injury went through a rehab assignment brandon young is with the taxi squad uh tonight he’s at the stadium and is expected actually rock kabatokco if you go to his twitter according to rock kabatokco orioles beat writer brandon young is pitching tomorrow he’s not announced as starting tomorrow but he is announced as pitching tomorrow so i would assume we’re going to see one of a uh uh keegan aken or uh a blew it uh pitch uh the first inning inning plus and like we have done a couple of times last week uh it’s a strategy i like to call it the tiger technique uh where you know you go to your pen for the start of the game uh try to play matchups get a a few outs early in the ball game make it easier on the starter es especially if the starter isn’t really you know a highlevel starter you know if they’re on the lower tier they need a little bit of help this is a way to help so it looks like brandon young’s going to pitch tomorrow probably going to go with a guy out of the bullpen to start the game and uh sagano is going to get bumped up whether it’ll be to just one more game to friday uh against the rays or if they’re just going to skip his entire turn in the rotation we’ll have to wait and see i think everybody’s just going to get bumped up a day uh i do feel like the starting pitching has kind of been wavering a little bit lately uh we got a great start from rogers and morton going tonight he’s been pretty solid but zack efflin’s been looking pretty bad lately um whatchamacallit uh who am i forgetting a big name dean kramer’s been a little bit shaky but who am i forgetting effin kramer and um morton’s been okay who am i forgetting rogers is the fifth guy i don’t know folks i’m losing my mind whatever i think that’s what we’re doing forget it let’s move on cuz i’m lost already we’re 5 minutes away from first pitch and i’m already floundering over here okay uh on the mound tonight is charlie morton okay okay like okay um morton is up to what is it a 4-7 record now after starting like 0 and7 uh 5.64 64 era jacob latz is going to start this game tonight for the rangers and i think latz might be another one of these relievers that starts a game kind of guys let me look into this guy uh no last time out he he pitched like a starter would five and two/3 innings uh but he’s only made that one start he’s played in 16 games this season one start so he was a reliever that looks to be in the process of being converted into a starter uh nathan evaldi is on the disabled list by the way uh i think that’s worth mentioning not just because it might explain why this arm is now in the rotation but also that’s another arm that we were looking at guys hello another arm that we were looking at potentially bringing in uh as a free agent during the offseason native aldi well he’s injured now i mean folks it is a landmine it is like the worst carnival midway game of all time uh signing a starting pitcher in free agency in the modern game because you are playing a rigged game you’re not going to get that big teddy bear that you want somebody will somebody’s going to get lucky max freed might actually pitch for nine years healthy and be good that might happen so far year one is going okay other than that it seems to me it’s a it’s a veritable crapshoot folks uh first pitch is just a few minutes away i haven’t even gone over the lineups yet uh admittedly these i don’t why why do we have to start earlier than any other ball game in the entire league why do our home games have to be so freaking early have to get up so freaking early sorry and especially now that the weather is so buttass hot right i mean i’m not there but i i remember what it’s like when it’s like that uh can i can we at least wait till the sun goes down so i can get a little bit of a break from the heat make me sit whether or not he should be batting lead off in a major league lineup uh you know where i stand now we know where manscolino stands which is to say that don’t expect anybody else to hit lead off until little league playing days but i don’t have one i have one for my freshman year of high school but not uh little league not that i recall i don’t know at that age i was probably picking my nose didn’t even understand when somebody got thrown out who knows folks hey rob how you doing it’s not a holiday issue it’s an orioles issue they’ve had issues with making a pitcher work in the first inning for years now the orioles have this jump on first pitch mentality tom you might be right but you know i’m just going with what i’m seeing what i’ve been watching here for a couple of years that may be true but no one can be counted on the swing of the first pitch as much as jackson holl i mean he’s just an extreme case if that’s what they want no wonder they love it because again he’s doing it more than anybody i’ve ever seen so if that’s what they want that’s what they’ve got i don’t like it again just in case i feel like i have to say this every time the holiday subject comes up because i don’t know who might be listening to me talk for the first time and if if you are you might be under the impression that i have a problem with jackson holiday i don’t have a problem with the guy think he’s going to be a great player for us and help us out in the field at the plate on the bases although he needs help there let’s be honest uh he needs some work knowing how to take leads off a bag and hagashio takes a curveball in there for a strike betting ninth tonight wasn’t he batting like fifth last night how’d he go from fifth to ninth i guess he’s really good against lefties uh one and one the count on hagashi hitting 225 one homer 16 rbi off the plate the count is two and one tom i agree i think uh jordan westber among the players right now uh when he’s fit is the best uh has the best characteristics of a leadoff hitter two and two on hagashi now am i saying is westber a better offensive player than holiday no but i’m not even trying to make the comparison it’s simply about a particular job that requires you know particular set of skills i sound like liam niss from taken now uh payoff pitch to hagashi swung on and bounced off the mound to holiday at second base a kind bounce off of the pitching mound that could have gone anywhere right to jackson for the second out morton’s face just one batter over the minimum and here is josh schmidt who walked his first time up up now with two down nobody on i know michael i’ve been seeing the trailers now for about two months curve ball in there for a strike i’m not going to see that garbage it’s just another cash grab milking uh existing property that people have a fond memory of and trying to exploit people uh by depending on them to reach in their pocket and give out some money just to relive a fond memory and what do they get back just a a just a bad like attempt at recreating uh magic that you’re not going to do it’s not happening okay folks two and two to the count will there be some laughs in this liam niss naked gun movie i’m sure i would hope so because movies like that have about 300 jokes i would hope five of them land uh smith fouls a ball away the count two and two with two down nobody on become obsolete the the idea of what a leadoff hitter’s role is see pitches get on base work the count let the other guys see what the pitcher got and then you know you want some speed you want a good you want one of the better on base percentages on the team and you want some speed this is a liner out to left field right in the path of carlson who makes the catch the inning is over charlie morton three innings of no run baseball we head now to the bottom of the third scoreless in baltimore so yeah i don’t i don’t get it i understand that baseball like most sports ever evolving you can’t just set it and forget it you got to understand when times are changing and and trends start to happen and this and that but i’m telling you right now folks the game of baseball some things are just you just know you just know them to always be true they they are universally true forever okay and for for me one of them is what makes uh a leadoff hitter like you know what what are the characteristics that best make for a leadoff hitter i feel like that hasn’t changed i don’t think that’s changed what has changed and i’m not necessarily opposed to it is that it used to always be your best hitter hit third period you play your best hitter third because you know he’s coming up in the first inning and it’s the best chance at that hitter coming up with people on base to drive in but now you see a lot of best hitters hitting second they want them a little bit higher up in the order they basically want that you know that juicy part of the lineup to start faster and i’m not necessarily opposed to that especially if you have a very heavy uh a very uh you know if you if you got a really good lineup you can definitely do that hey folks kobe mayo is coming up let’s get it all on there just spread it out kobe mayo how about a first major league home run or pop out on one pitch to shallow right field one of those two things just happened folks i’ll give you a chance to guess which in the meantime i’ll be right back by the way here’s a hint there’s one down said mullins looks at a pitch that’s right in there i tell you when we take a first pitch it’s always right down the middle we clock if this is the way we play baseball trying to play a 45minute game here every time we face a mediocre pitcher this is how our offense looks i’m sick of it man take a pitch i was trying to tell an inspirational story about the advent of this channel and how i was you know inspired to to do this and i’m just sitting here i can’t even i can’t even 30 pitches 10 per inning only helped out because of sanchez it’s like the orioles think “oh well we’re we’re facing like kind of a mediocre pitcher so let’s really jump on him.” no you do the opposite you go “okay this guy probably has some command issues there’s a reason why we don’t know who the hell this guy is he’s not that good let him hurt himself a little bit i just i don’t get it folks it’s not like i don’t ever want to see journeyman catcher uh signed by the orioles to their uh aaa team as uh a little bit of depth forgot to mention that in the pregame we got a 2-2 count on duran two down in the inning and i hope right now this team is ready to hit when it’s our turn here’s a foul ball we’ll do it again yeah for a guy to scoop up available guy to scoop up stallings is pretty good better than garry’s michael 22 is the board with that swing and started off that rally uh yeah late in the ball game and again it’s the combination if if you have a control pitcher out there a guy who doesn’t really throw stuff that you know typically goes in the dirt you know like an akin hell even brian baker doesn’t really throw stuff that baker doesn’t have a splitter right he’s like a fast ball slider change up guy right you you just don’t want a combination late in the ball game when it’s a close game and you got the combination of sanchez catching and a pitcher on the mound that throws pitches that hit the dirt a lot that’s i think that’s safe to say melanie what is going on you’ve got a crazy widow’s peak with the jack nicholson eyebrows i didn’t know the warehouse had a hooters restaurant inside but i’m i’m uh so yeah this game started with us bemoning how this offense could not get to jacob latz did not have a hit until the seventh inning i mean just what a crazy game this was like the shifts and like what’s what we’re doing wrong what we’re doing right what we’re doing wrong again but bottom line today the orioles had only four hits three of those four came in a row and they left the yard off of martin actually you know what think about what this team did tonight at the plate if you take martin out of this equation he gave up all of the runs i mean he’s not charged with them two runners were inherited but his pitches directly resulted in all five of these runs right and then when you look at the hits he gave up three that leaves one hit for the rest of this team against the rangers tonight and martin didn’t get an out so it’s basically like we we went 27 outs and got a hit if you take martin out of the equation maybe i shouldn’t have stuck around this long to come to the understanding of just how miserable this offense really is i mean we have the ability to have a big inning we’ve shown the big inning remember when we were up 8- nothing all eight of those runs came in the second inning and we did not get a runner into scoring position we didn’t get another hit i believe for the remainder of that game against the rays last week we’re doing this too much folks and that is all about the philosophy of this team it’s great to see the comeback it’s great when the big inning happens in a way where we go from losing into a winning position and if had it stayed that way we probably wouldn’t be sitting here talking about what’s wrong with the offense but the fact of the matter is our philosophy is not conducive to winning ball games on a on a consistent basis it’s not conducive to putting up a good number of hits on the board on a consistent basis four freaking hits one without martin in the ball game and don’t tell me it’s because we we we we faced the best pitching out there baseball has to offer we didn’t should have been more h charlie morton on the other hand man was he laboring out there he had one bad inning and had the guts to come out there and pitch the fifth inning when he was already over 90 pitches sweating his ass off i appreciate morton that was a hero inning in that fifth inning uh it’s just tough because there were moments tonight where it’s just like you’re my hero you’re my hero you’re my hero okay all right even jim palmer’s sweating his ass off holy cow well i’m sorry i’m sorry melanie newman has a book of notes about we use a relief pitcher to start the game and then bring in brandon young after an inning or two so expect that tomorrow and we’re going up against one of the better pitchers in this sport over the past decade or so uh when he’s healthy he’s pretty nasty and folks his numbers this year are as good as ever jacob deg grom yikes that is who we have to go up against for this series finale to try to win this series deg grom is 7-2 with a 2.24 era and a whip of just 0.92 88 in the third innings 87 strikeouts so he’s still punching out a batter per inning just nine home runs that is less than one per nine and just 18 walks which is less than two per nine that’s who we got to go up against brandon young against jacob deg grom tomorrow the stream will begin at 6:20 p.m right here on this channel
