Excellent read as always, I appreciate the realistic perspective on what Toews is likely to be. Any hints as to external solutions to their roster holes?
Not surprised by anyone else, but tough regression from Demelo. You could judge from the eye test this season, but the stats makes it worse
I find nothing to be controversial in this assessment.

William Karlsson is a nice look for 2C given the reports that Vegas is looking at Marner. Vancouver might like to offload now that they ate cap with Kane.

On a related note in regards to Toews, would you attribute his decline not just the past few seasons he played, but even further back to the Hawks not being able to make key moves due to the salary situation they had, as well as aging players/players leaving in free agency? i believe at one point, the hawks had like 50% of their cap tied to 6 players?

Can I ask where you have seen that full respiratory recovery from long covid is rare? From what I have seen 92% have recovered by 2 years post infection. Based on that, and that being healthy is associated with recovery, that he will be fully recovered by now.

Forwards: I would like us to find a real 2C but it seems unlikely that’s going to happen so I’m not holding my breath. If Ehlers walls, go young on the wing. Get Lambert, Barlow and Chibrikov meaningful development time in the first two-three months of the season then upgrade at the deadline. Wingers are a dime a dozen at the deadline.
Defence: if Salomonsson cracks the roster this year that would solve a lot of problems. Ship out Schenn and Stanley and then go find a real LHD. Been banging the drum for Oleksiak for a while. The Jets have made it clear that they want a big, physical presence on their 3rd pairing to free up Lowry’s dance card if things get chippy. Oleksiak put up solid 2nd pairing results last year in Seattle and he would get easier minutes in Winnipeg.
