Things are fine the way they are. Not a fan of this unless they are going to move the season start earlier in October/September. The SCF already goes too far into June as it is.
So stupid, they should make it 80 and try to wrap things up before June. I have a hard time watching hockey that late in the year.
I’d be down for that if it means increasing the divisional games from 26 to 28 so it’s an even 4 games per year against each opponent instead of some being only 3.
84 game season means no home and home with the other conference based on a 36 team 4 division alignment:
– 1 x other conference = 18 games
– 2 x intra conference = 18 games
– 6 x intra divisional = 48 games
I know most of you want conference based playoffs but they’re unlikely.
They gotta keep working on this so we can get those numbers up and finish the playoffs June 30th, and start Free agency next day. You won the cup bro? Guess what, you’ve been trade to SJS so we can sign Marner. Life comes at you fast.

Why? An 82 game season is plenty.
For the many who are apparently unwilling to read: this change would convert the final two preseason games into regular season games.
4 Preseason, 84 Regular season
This change guarantees a regular season schedule of
4G per in-division opponents, 3G per in-conference opponents, 2G per opposite conference opponents
lowkey i think they should just do 80 game seasons, and stop spacing regular and playoff games out so far so the final can happen in early or mid june
Make it 162 games like baseball

I wonder if this is due to regular season because they want one away and home game and more division matches with 32 teams now a few more games would have to be played to get more even times they play each other etc as well. Just thoughts of top of my head .

3 games vs each divisional opponent. 21 games
2 games vs every other team. 48 games.
Total number of games per season 69.
Start earlier but have multiple bye weeks for teams. Cup gotta be hoisted by end of May. Get away from nba finals
