every Well not every day but most days not every day not every day sometimes I read two in one day and save up a little bit oh okay yeah you’re good then i read everything but just not always because I decide is there any chance you know who Roy Orersonson is yes you do what does he What team do he play for he’s that uh he was that quarterback for the Cowboys when they won the Super Bowl oh boy if we thought Tuesday’s show was unhinged that’s him right there there he is looking like me well you might be looking like him no he wishes he was looking like me you wish you had that tell me about him can you pick Pretty Woman on the guitar oh that’s who it is my god you didn’t okay so LSDs we got George Castanza and Roy Orbison what next are we going to discover we need to start a wall of things and popular culture that Sam doesn’t know yeah from How about we do something from before 1990 or from or after 1990 you just screwed that up okay take a nap let’s go to the show we’ll get back to you ask Robert some stuff oh I have lots of things for Robert we’re going to start with our headline of the day which is the Dallas Stars keep getting mentioned around this swirling free agency of Mitch Marner he is the bellow of the ball in free agency for this year’s off season now that can change as far as who goes after what but he seems to be the number one attraction or at least the most expensive one so Robert I want to start with you and then we’ll go right down the row here sh can the Dallas Stars realistically be in the Mitch Marner race and then the second question which are two different conversations should they be in the Mitch Marner race can they well yes they can do anything as we saw with Miko Ranton and you know there are players for Jim Nil and and Tom Gardy too uh there’s a certain threshold where you know if you have those kind of generational players he’s willing to consider it and look at it and there we know there have been some others that he’s looked at too they didn’t get even John Tvaris the first time around right seven years ago they they took a real look at and had a meeting with him and everything too so yes they could but the what they would have to do to do that to me the question is really what are you gaining by adding Marner versus what you’re losing to get him right let’s Jason Robertson’s the obvious he’s the other top left winger they have right now so is that addition from what you lose with mner and what you gain or what you lose with losing Robertson what you gain with mner how much of a bigger bump is mner going to be and is that worth everything else you have to do it’s going to be another five million at least on top is it as simple as you Well you could throw in you can throw in Dumba and you could throw in Labouchkin and then bring up but but again Mner is more of a distributor than he is a goal scorer i mean he’s he’s over a point per game guy over his career but in 660 games or so he’s got 200 goals so so and he’s got 760 points or something like that so the bottom line is he’s a distributor and if you’re getting rid of a goal scorer right a guy that you should be distributing the puck to you’re getting rid of him if that’s what case would be sure yeah because you’re again Marner plays he’s a right winger so it’s not like you’re going to bring Mner in and put him over there on the left side so now you got to fill that hole so I don’t know I mean again my biggest thing is going to be I think he’s a great player there’s no question about it and what he doesn’t get enough credit for is what he does at the other end of the ring he’s a dependable forward I mean he’s he’s been yeah he’s been in he’s been in the Selki conversation many times so so he’s a responsible player there’s no question about it But it doesn’t fix it the identity for me of the team i mean if you’re getting Mitch Marner you know why is he leaving Toronto why are they willing to let him leave Toronto you think it’s just because of the money it can’t just be the money right they haven’t won and it’s not and it’s not his fault they don’t get out of the playoffs but he’s not part of the identity that that Chief that again coaching staff everybody else like that they want because they know what the identity is supposed to be in order to get past for them Florida or Tampa whoever it may be but they’re trying to change their identity their culture whatever you want to call it because the Magnificent Four isn’t working for them so now if somebody wanted to throw Knander at me I’d jump on that kid in a second but I’m I’m just saying I don’t I don’t know why they’d want to get rid of him anyway Sam can they is the first part y is it only Jason Robertson that is the way to do it i mean I I love Tyler Sean he has a no move he’s not going to go anywhere if you could in a video game world flip Sean for Martner as Ludza says that fits your right side much better if you had Ranton and Mner as top two right wings where do I sign i’m not trying to get rid of Tyler Sean i Yeah I didn’t say Tyler Sean either so let’s not get out there no no I’m saying that i’m just saying that it’s only because of his cap hit where that would work he would have to sign off on that and I’m positive that Tyler doesn’t want to go anywhere and I don’t want him to go anywhere but for the fact of doing it now you could still do it because you can be over the cap up to 10% I think it is until training camp next year so you can figure that stuff out over the summer i I mean again I don’t I don’t know what the answer is but again I’m going back to Okay so we’re going to we’re going to be really good in them first 82 games i guess that’s the problem and I’ll answer your question first it’s going to take multiple steps me and Robert were just doing that mostly Robert doing the math because I’m not good with numbers but it it’s it takes a lot like it’s not a simple Well we already figured that out when you messed up before and after 1990 i’m not a good speaker writer or number guy but uh but otherwise you’re doing great yeah otherwise I’m in the perfect job but no it’s going to take a lot of stuff it’s going to take them moving probably Dumba and maybe Lushkin it’s going to take some space especially if you’re then talking about bringing in someone on the back end to fill those because you can’t just get rid of all your defenseman and then just hope you’re going to be okay on the back end hope no Lquist takes the next step it’s way more complicated than a simple trade one one forone type of situation but also the question that le what Led is bringing up I don’t think it moves this team any closer to what they want to be and if they were to go and get rid of Robertson for Marner it it’s not a a situation that moves them forward all it does is maybe get a guy who’s a little more responsible and doesn’t score as many goals and I just don’t think that moves the needle for me is is Cody Cece got is his time up here okay what was he making last year three somewhere in that something like that well so you could really you could keep Labushkin right you I mean if you add up if you add up CC Dumba and Robo i mean if if that was numbers wise and I’m sure you could there’s a couple other guys you could throw in there i mean I think that you’re not nec but that’s not currently counted on the Stars space which is right now 1.9 well 1.9 but that’s without if you’re looking at Puck Pedia that’s without Alex Petrovic and that’s assuming he could make it through waiverss next year so it’s really 1.2 having so let’s say they have about a million which is what you want to have so that you could have a call up if you need an injury if you have less than the minimum number you kind of handcuff yourself and that’s we get into cap stuff later as far as MNER Robert is there any scenario in your brain where you could keep Jason Robertson and some as Les was talking about some of these other guys and go get Mitch Mner to add to it forget for a minute whether it makes them better or whether it’s a move you want or stylistically it’s you what you need is there a way you could get Mner and not lose Robo you’d have to start like like Led was saying you’d have to start with Dumba and Labouchkin if you can move out both of their full cap hits that’s seven million total you you need let’s say Martner signs for 12 right what randon got you can assume that’s at least what he’s looking for and hoping for probably more than that with the cap going up but let’s say only 12 which is like rans and signed less than we thought he was asking for he might have been pushing it with Colorado because of the whole tax no state income tax in Texas it’s possible that you might be able to negotiate with Mner but let’s say for a minute you can’t let’s say it’s the higher side yeah and and it’s a little different I think with Marner too because it’s July 1st wide open market as opposed to the trade deadline where there’s that ticking clock like hey are you going to sign with Dallas or or extend with Dallas or not otherwise the trade falls apart so that 7 million if you got rid of Leouchkin and Dumba then you have questions about what your defensive depth is and you need another 5 million on top of that at least so where are you getting that 5 million from right uh you already only have like we said just barely enough you don’t even have Jamie Ben signed um even if he signs for one million base I know we said we didn’t want to get into cap stuff but So do you think they’ll do something with Jamie like they did with Jonathan Ta like I mean when I look at that deal I’m like “Oh my god are you kidding me?” I mean he’s getting $500,000 every 10 games he plays he hasn’t played two years yeah and if they And if they have to pay what is it if they have to pay him the full like whatever million they win the Stanley Cup that’s it well I think the Stars would take that you know the other the other thing I I wonder about who is who’s Mner le let’s say that it the robo I mean again that’s a piece that would have to be gone money who’s Mner then going to give the puck to it’s a good question I mean he’s not playing on the top line because Randon’s not Ren’s a right winger right so now he’s playing with Wyatt and Sam there’s there’s I mean who’s he playing with Yeah it’s a great point the left side right now even with Robertson is like so you’re going to bring in you’re going to bring in a guy that that puts puts up 90 points a year 60 70 assists and you don’t know who he’s going to get the puck to now Wyatt obviously would take be able to take advantage of that but I’m just curious so now you’re saying okay so now we got to go get another goal scorer to replace Robo that is going to be less than 2 million well even more then you need someone on the left of Henson Rain these are questions that Martner’s probably gonna ask because who am I gonna be playing let me throw out a really outlandish line combination and tell me if you think it’s ridiculous forget the the numbers for a minute cuz that’s important but if you could somehow have Marner on the right with Wyatt and Robo you could f put let’s assume Jaime Ben signed Ben Duchain and Sean will have the grumpy old men that’s $30 million on that line yep and then you have Hint and Ranson and could you have some inexpensive left winger that’s willing to do sort of the Mason Marchment work and play with those two would that give you a top nine you’d be happy with you’re kind of describing like a ani donov or someone like that except he was even making more than more than a guy that’s a little taller than Donov maybe you’ve got you know players like Justin Ritzovian coming up who who could you know maybe scale up the lineup we saw Logan Stanovven do it and kind of play a top six top nine role when we know Steel can but Luds you are adamant you like him to give them the center depth yeah the the lines keep coming up to me you don’t collect talent you build a team and alls we’re doing right now is talking about collecting more does it sound a little bit more video game-esque than building a team i don’t know i don’t play video games but I Yeah i mean but I’m just saying it’s like it’s like what you’re trying to do is build a game for or a team for the break what’s called the Allstar yes game that seems what we’re doing i mean again let’s play if you’re if you’re in this front office right now what are you doing realistically because I think this is a question that is not asked enough right now what I’m doing is I’m asking a lot of questions i’m asking what is the what identity do you want for this this team have we seen this over the everything that we’ve been talking about have we seen that how by adding Mitch Mner obviously great player are we getting hard to play against with game 83 right that that’s what I’m asking and and I’m trying to figure out again I don’t know i’m not the any obviously no capologist and so how does this fit and what I would like someone to do is say “Okay let’s here’s what you got you got you can go find two defenseman and you got $7 million total and then let’s find one more or one I I would prefer to get again I always bring up a guy like Josh Anderson and I’m just using that for an example i would like one of those kind of guys that goes up and down and goes to the net and he’s 6’3 you know again I I think we need two of those guys and again I don’t and and less you got $4 million to find those two guys but isn’t those guys are more affordable exactly that should be easier that that’s that’s the big thing is you should be able to say okay are we going to is our identity we do if we need to change it they might not believe in that they may say no we don’t have because what I’m hear I mean the players that we’re talking about I don’t think that that seems to be a priority I don’t know I mean I don’t know if we have you talked to anybody that says we got to get harder to play against yet have you heard those year it it’s been that was kind of in even some of the exit interviews that you guys all saw that was kind of coming out right we need to look hybrid sort of style well it came out of I think Pete said it We need to look at it but Jim said it too and I think Duchaine alluded to it maybe as well that we got to look at kind of again you run up against the same team twice you know they’ve done what half of what LA’s done running up against Edmonton every year that that makes you reexamine some things and say “Look we we just added a 12 million winger we we made it one fewer game against Edmonton.” Yeah and the problem is they’re saying that what you’re saying like the the changing more from the rush style to the hybrid that doesn’t necessarily mean we need to be harder to play against either that’s that’s the problem is like don’t just change the structure play a little bit more whatever it might be you need to get the identity and I don’t know if that’s coming from their organization right now or just coming from all of us saying it over and over again but that feels like it needs to be changed and that’s where those players come in the other thing you got to I I think you have to keep in mind I think St louis is going to be better next year oh yeah and you know how they play they play that similar and I’m just talking about the division teams in the division you think will be a better team yeah i just I just think that theoretically they should be well we know St louis is going to be yes they’re they’re going to Monty’s going to have them playing more i mean again he had him at a clip of 7 something 7:15 once he took over but he is not It wasn’t about scoring goals with that team it was that identity that that he has so you’ve got that Vegas here here’s where I think he’s going to go i mean you want to talk about Marner I think he’s going to Vegas i think Vegas will find a way to do it they always seem to pull something again they might be $12 million over on July 15th but somehow they’re going to be cap compliant or there’s going to be$1 there’s going to be three guys on LTIR you know something like that he’ll make sure that one of these guys is crossing the street in his hometown and gets hit by a bus or something like that so anyway they find a way should put me on LTI up next we’re going to keep this going always on LTI we have so many topics cap relief let’s do that keep going stars offseason talk with Robert need to see Robert yes on their television screens robert I was saying in the context of the previous conversation about Marner I didn’t want to get too deep into the Stars cap space but it I want to not box you in there if we want to go that way there’s lots of that conversation really quick about Marner who do you think it benefits the most to have all these teams like Dallas swirl supposedly interested in Mner it benefits Mitch Martner create this market so it wouldn’t shock me if maybe maybe someone in the Mner camp is the one putting out all this stuff about how how interested Dallas are well you know what Marner did is he just said who his favorite teams to go to would be and it would be Dallas and it’d be Vegas and LA and Yeah so he’s picking out all those kind of markets and they all seem to have I don’t know some sunshine around it sunshine Sunshine and a beach maybe anywhere he goes is going to be less than I was going to say most other than Toronto don’t go to Montreal let’s talk about the coaching search for a minute we’re going to go and do all our greatest hits of the offseason with Robert today what is going on in your mind with where the stars are at in their coaching s search at this exact moment i still think that they would like to have a coach in place before what next Tuesday July 1st before free agency i think it makes some things easier now I will say with Jim Nil I I think he if anyone could sell a free agent on a team without having a coach there Jim’s probably someone who could do that right um and again the first thing most players are going to look at are going to be who am I going to be playing with right as opposed to who I’m playing for unless it’s someone like torture someone where where you know how much that’s going to affect your life probably Lud’s obviously you’d be able to talk to that more than I could but probably the and and even Jim would probably be able to tell them hey we’ve got the you know the field narrowed down to maybe these guys or something i’m sure he’d be pretty candid about that but I think at this point they probably have a pretty good idea of who they would like and so they’re either waiting for someone to make their decision or they still haven’t decided internally which would surprise me so do you do when you say sell a coach on coming here do you is is part of that sales pitch that we’d like Naz to be here we’d like this guy to be here you’re not bringing anybody in i mean do you think that’s part of could be what because I again I I just I’ve never heard of a coach that’s just going to come in and and basically adopt three or four other coaches well they keep saying that they’re saying and so far Well they did that with Jim Montgomery right that’s what this is why this is why when this all came out and I sat here when this all was said and I’m like no way this is what’s happening here they’re all just going to they’re all going to stay here and they’re just going to plunk in a head guy did you hear the quote from Steve Spot no okay so I was going to clip this oh yeah yeah yeah you mean where it was the short interview thing he basically Well he was talking to I saw the video or something sophia and Kelsey I believe Casey not Kelsey up the They both work for Nessen and for the Bruins and he basically said and this was interesting to me Robert because it it very much conflicted with what Jim said in his comments about those guys are all under contract they’ll be here to Lud’s point because Steve Spot basically said I sat down with Jim and his staff and they they let me know they were going a different way and then he said the decision was for he and his wife family do we want to take a year off because he’s still under contract so he gets paid or go find something else that really does butt heads with what Jim said yeah I I suppose you could try to spin it by saying that maybe when Jim was asked the question you know after after fired a few weeks ago um that maybe at that time maybe that was the plan or they didn’t have a clear plan but all they kind of knew was you know what after exit interviews we know we have to move on from Pete and we haven’t even thought about the assistant coaches who are all still under contract so the last thing Jim wants to do in that situation is is say oh and by the way these guys who are under contract they won’t be for long so he’s probably not going to say that um but yeah it see it seems to me that once you know you want Dbor moving on just because of how closely he and he and Steve Spot had worked together for a while if if you don’t think you want Scott taking that that spot sorry then you know then you probably knew that pretty soon too luds weren’t you kind of surprised like we were or thinking that that he was going to stick around without Pete Dbor because they were kind of a package duo for multiple stops like I said I thought the whole thing was shady from the beginning and it for me it’s like everybody’s talking about in the comment yeah the coaches are going to be sticking around the assistant guys are going to be here nobody says a peep spot let’s just talk about spotter oh he had it there you go i’m just He’s just checking on checking i’m testing him he had it i know you’re getting um he didn’t say a peep did he didn’t do any interviews butter no soon as he got to Boston he did interview right away and came out with that yep that bothered him why well the whole No what bothered him is about the way it was said here yeah and he got his first opportunity to do this first interview he didn’t have to say that first thing he said but he didn’t have to say that he could have just wrote along said “I’m happy to be here.” And you know there you know we weren’t really sure what was going he just came right out and said that so that to me especially coming from a guy that I think seems to be pretty quiet and doesn’t stir the pot at all you know and just kind of lay in the weeds and just do his job bang you know what it reminds me of it’s the Miko Rantin when he came in to Dallas and he said I just want to clear the air i did not keep a closed mind to Carolina when I was there like that’s that feels like what Steve spot and I’m glad you brought that up Buds because that’s a guy who simply says I want this out in the ether i want everyone to know because you don’t have to say because that kind of goes that opens it up to the hockey world and think of all the you know you guys right and you guys know what everybody’s talking about what was said and immediately when I heard that I went well I my antenna would go up here and I’d be saying I’d be trying to call him and go wait a second didn’t uh we had heard here that this was there you know nobody and boom it comes out right away that’s why I just think I just think that he ju to me and again I’ve never met him so I don’t I’m I’m not going to say it so he doesn’t have to pull it up oh we got it we got spotter on there okay we got spotter on there i’ve never met Spot but he comes off to me as a company guy and you know what I mean and he keeps things you know that things don’t get spread out there like you really don’t really ever hear anything assistant coaches you know it usually comes from the head guy but he just seems to fly under the radar just I do my job and I’m you know I’m a loyal soldier to the head guy and bang bang bang so for me that just was kind of there’s too many things here for me since this all happened that you kind of if you remember some of this stuff you’re like huh really and and especially like the exit view thing too the exit I’m like these guys are Tyler was oh beautiful and Jamie was beautiful and I’m like that kind of sounds fishy to me and and in fairness if I’m Steve spot and I’ve been working closely with Pete Dbor you’ve made three Western Conference finals in a row and even Pete you know during the year looked around and said JJ Montgomery got fired right he’s like this guy who just let him to one of the best seasons in NHL history a year or two ago and now he’s getting fired they start slow and every and clearly you know the coach wasn’t the main problem in Boston it looks like um we kind of knew that the feeling from Pete and probably from spotter too was come on really like coaches are just being being moved in and out so fast the turnover is kind of crazy so I think he has every right to feel if he does to feel a little bit like okay if you guys really had to move on so quickly from us I I have no reason to like take the high road when when I do my next interview so that’s his prerogative yeah the other thing like with Jamie and Tyler with their exit interviews and they’re glowing right and I’m thinking okay well Jaime doesn’t have a contract you know and again he’s going to get something worked out we all believe that tyler’s got a year left the team is probably going to be changing at a certain point here so I’m going to say you never know i might want to be playing for Pete again because it might be one of my only stops and I want him to hear everything is glowing and I you know man he was a great coach and all this kind of because you don’t know and and that’s the problem some not rookies but guys that are maybe maybe they’re in 25 26 they’ve been in the league for three four years are all pissed off and I think about Zegris right and I don’t know if he’s said anything I have no idea but he seems to me like a player that may just kind of cock off about something a little bit and and not that he did but them kind of players and there’s not a lot of them but sometimes they’re they’re so-called they’re not rookies anymore but I don’t consider them quite veterans yet yeah and I’m like just just go about your business because you never know when you want want another job and you want a coach to remember that you said things good things about him and so those are the first couple things that came up to me i didn’t say any of this but now we can move on now is that is that I’m like yeah you kind of Oh man he’s great because I just don’t know where I’m going to be in a year or so from now no that’s just smart if you’re a player exactly and I will say that’s a veteran move well and for Jim Nil too as a veteran GM he knows in that press conference it’s a much better thing for him to do to just kick that can down the road and say “Yeah everything’s fine for now.” As opposed to “Well maybe some of them maybe not.” Then think of the firestorm of speculation that would start so it’s easier just to say which is technically true at the time they’re all under contract as of today the plan is still for him to come back because he knows those decisions will be made do you keep those two Naz and Misha well I think if you’re Naz if you’re Nazerine and you just got an interview which we we think he did um would you stay if you don’t get the job he did it once before in New Jersey he had the interim job and then they hired Lind and he went back as an assistant for a couple years but I think if you’re Nazarine you’ve been running a penalty kill this good the main problem is there aren’t any other jobs out there so you might say you know what try to do my thing for at least one more year in Dallas and then take or and then maybe the first opening there during the year I was having this discussion with Shawn on the phone the other day because Sean’s going to be on our draft show on Friday but he’s not right now because we’ve had guests shawn mentioned and this is a really great point Pete Dbor is incredibly set in his ways and stubborn with his tactical decisions when he decides how they’re going to play that’s how they play and Sean brought up to me he goes “We still don’t know what a LA Nazarene coach team looks like whether it’s defense or because of course he has input and he has things that he puts a finger on but this is Pete Dbor’s way.” Like that’s where not criticizing it just that’s how it is so could it be different could Ela Nazertine’s style look different whe even if he’s the assistant coach with a different head coach and and again what what you’re doing as an assistant coach is you’re just hey that’s what we’re doing that’s what he says that’s what we go over it this is how we play and then you go home at night and you talk to your wife and you’re like I have no idea why we’re playing this way but manto man that’s come from Pete I well I think it’s been done since he’s got here so I I would have to has Naz been here all the whole time Pete he came they hired him after Pete got hired so and again I guess that’s a conversation that and again if you’re if you’re a coach that’s just getting into the league and you’re you’re doing this and you’re just getting started and you got a head coach and like okay cool let’s let’s do that you know I mean now if you’re you know you’ve been down the boat ways and you played against different systems and in different systems and you go well if my my opinion is if we’re going to play that way then we better have the right guys that can read and react to it because there’s other teams that play that this isn’t the only team that plays man-on man but when you watch them play they know when to check off they know when I’m okay I’m getting into a different zip code right now and my back is you know this is ridiculous I’m just going to be in a certain area so but you know if you’re going to but again that’s a coach thing and if he says you stay with that guy then you stay with that that’s why I want people to get off of Sudtor’s back because when he was here he made some of those like we see him this year i I’ll never forget who who was it Steel and Smith just basically come above the tops of the circles they run into each other and they’re both crisscrossing like so but when when Suits was out there were times when I’m like where the hell did he just go like there’s a guy coming right down the slot with a puck and you just went right in front of him going to get his guy that’s my guy you know I mean that’s my point is is sometimes especially for suits I mean guys been in the league 20 years they’re still paying him right I think three teams are paying But and now look at what he does with St louis they come in they don’t play that system and and listen Army wanted to get guys there which he did because he didn’t want suits out there playing 25 minutes a night right now you play in this kind of system you don’t have to skate as much you just you got your areas and you do the right things and you sit it’s like sitting in a rocking chair sometimes but mean again that’s why everybody that was complaining about Sudter and I know there were a couple things here and there but for the most part he’s just playing what the system is and some of these other guys I hear Cece it’s a lot of stuff is because they get those guys and and and and again they feel the same way they were they were caught they were they were going where they’re supposed to go or they were going no no no here this is my area oh wait I’m supposed to go with that guy and so and it’s one thing for Bishop it’s another thing for veteran guys that haven’t been playing that kind of thing because you’re kind of programmed to play where you’re supposed to be playing and all of a sudden you go oh damn that’s right I’m supposed to do And so you kind of get caught in between but eventually they you know eventually they go “Okay this is what we’re supposed to do good luck Jake.” Yeah and if you’re a Lane Nasser like you’re saying Owen and you can kind of treat this this season maybe if you choose to come back as an assistant if that’s what happens as a little bit of an audition and say “Look within multiple systems I can do my thing with the defense and the PK and be successful and these guys can have I mean look at Leouchkin on the PK right he was really really good for a lot of the year um in that role until CC came and he kind of got moved down that pecking order a little bit he got he got a little gunshy because there were pucks that were hitting him and going in the net but he was in the right spots he was doing the right thing and and it would hit his stick and go hit cover daily that would happen to him back in the day exactly exactly and you’re like man this is what I’m supposed to do this is where I’m supposed to be and then the last thing you want is to get in there and be like the bull fighter where you just kind of step out of the way and all of a sudden so Trevor Dy’s the other way lindy Ruff came in and suddenly Dy was flying all over the Y i’m gonna have one more co coach question and then we have a super chat to get through and we keep on moving here on DLLs i was going to say I was just waiting for the screen to change over to me because I didn’t know Roy Orbitson asked these guys this question how are you feeling about the candidates and who are you leaning toward what what appeals to your senses of of who the stars could go for and who do they ultimately think they might go with what he’s trying to say is what’s your Spidey sense give us your Spidey sense spidey sense please if you’re if you look at Jim Nil’s track record I really think he has asked the question every time who is the right coach right now at this moment so that’s the big question right now what does this team need three years ago they decided that the right answer was a veteran guy who who had you know a fair amount of success hadn’t made it all the way um and you know you can you can argue about how successful the last three years were or not i think most teams would love to have been as unsuccessful as the stars have been but um they obviously decide I mean Jimnell said it right the status quo we think it was riskier to stick with Dbor for one more year than it would be to get someone else so to me the question is what do they need in this moment and that’s where I think you can look at what Nil’s done and he could go in almost any direction right he’s hired a college coach with no NHL experience he’s would he bring someone up from the AHL uh with no experience would he bring back a backa Glenn Golden or someone like that right um I think he could go in any direction but my Spidey sense if that’s if that’s the term we’re using is that he would love to get someone and again I’m I’m not reading his mind or anything right here um but my Spidey sense is that they would really really love to get someone like a David Carl because that could really be an X-factor that changes the team in ways that maybe another guy just kind of coming up for the first time uh even someone like Goldson coming back and maybe he’s learned a lot that might not be that extra kind of X factor whereas someone like like Carl who with the success he’s had internationally with World Juniors and stuff there could be something there that you can’t find anywhere else just like he kind of thought he had with Montgomery hey Led in that vein do you think now obviously Anaheim already pounced and they got Joel Quenville but if they were going to look at a veteran guy like they did with Dbor but say “Okay well winning a championship is a important criteria for a head coach.” Would do you think that they would be all over going after Joel Quentville if he hadn’t already signed up with Anaheim when they made the decision to get rid of Dbor i would hope so but for the reason that he’s won before yeah yeah i mean again if if you have a team that’s knocking on the door and you bring in and again I have nothing against a rookie coach coming in at all and as a matter of fact I’ve said it before i when you talk about Carl there’s only one reason and I don’t know if you’re the only one reason I don’t think he would leave school now is because he said the only reason he was going back was because of the kids coming and and everybody else seems to just throw some money at him i just I don’t know i don’t know yeah but anyway I think that those kind of coaches that are they’re used to dealing with younger players all the time and it’s different in college than it is anywhere else because they play two games a week and you have to know where they are the other five days of the week and trust me my head coach had a project with our team there in North Dakota can you imagine Belffor being there for only one year yeah lord but but I but I think that when you have that veteran guy and you have a veteran team which I don’t even know if we’re a veteran team anymore but but anyway it seemed however it shakes out but of course yeah I think that and what it does immediately is when when that kind of coach comes walking through the door that’s got three Stanley Cuffs you know in his pocket you’re like “Okay whatever he says goes.” He knows what he’s doing and he’s he’s had Hall of Famers that have played for him and he’s had goalenders that were they’re all the same ingredients kind of so to speak are are in this room they just need to get they need a couple little things to get pushed to a certain spot the question is where do you find someone who can bring those couple extra little things in there well there’s not out there right now exactly yeah there’s none out there because there’s going to be about 12 coaches fired to go with Naz as an inter hire him as an interim to start the year hey Robert the chat is saying they would love to have your mic a little closer to your mouth so they can hear you okay so go ahead and bring it closer if you want because we have a super chat to get to and we have to ask Robert and the panel a question about this super chat people are getting a little pushy out there all right lads give us a bing bong bing bong they run the show jamie Batson do we not have a bing bong you could ask we don’t have our speaker with him did John take the bing take the bing bong over with him okay so I like Luds is better jamie with a Ben and what is the likelihood of Granlin coming back does Duchaine’s deal mean it’s unlikely Granlin will be back we’ll go to Robert first because I want to bring up Duchain signing anyway does that for lack of better term sign the end of the Mikuel Granland era with Dallas well I think Duchaine’s deal made it really unlikely Mason Marchman would be coming back first of all uh that’s really only if you think Granland could have been a center option if you think oh oh well maybe he could be a center as a wing I I kind of always thought just looking at their cap space I always thought Granley would kind of be a luxury and especially with how thin the market is likely to be with like top six type centers and talent I I have to think Graham could get a lot more from another team if he wants to take a pretty steep discount I’m sure they’d love to have him back especially given how thin the left wing is they’d love to have him as an option there but I just don’t see I he’d have to take a really really steep haircut uh to mix metaphors to to come back so to me Duchain I don’t know if that was the thing that moved that needle i think it was more the the cap situation in general makes it unlikely now again if they find a way to clear out a bunch of space you could be look looking at a whole bunch of different options depending on things like Labouchkin and Dumba and all sorts of people but um yeah right now I think I see Granland as unlikely unless he’s just waiting to take a really cheap extension but then why wouldn’t he have done that already if you’re Granland if he was going to stay for really cheap why wouldn’t he have done what Duchain did i think he’s coming back i have no knowledge about nothing i know nothing about the money i just think that because of the guys that he played with Yeah and and these guys the Finnish mafia those guys yeah i wonder what you’re pointing at they need left wingers well exactly and I’m thinking would you like you know if you’re coming back you’re probably guaranteed to play on that line yeah right right i mean they would certainly start with that because it was a no-brainer line is he at the point where Well how old is he now 33 33 33 33 33 i think he’s looking for a little bit longer deal like if I were him this is the time right this is the time right so this is when you want your security and all the previous was 5 million for four years could you get him back at that and could you make that work well I mean yeah but then your defense is I guess you’re going to have Lquist and Petravic are in your you know for Robert like they need it’s just prior what’s their priority they can get Granland they can get MNER they can get Ecklad what What is the most important thing Sam what do you think the most important thing is that they need right in this off seasonason what do they need to bring in they need someone who changes the way they play makes it makes them harder to play against and they need someone who scores the goals in the big moments to me Granland does both those things he’s not he’s not the playoff guy right but he if you’re comparing Duchain or Robertson or them to Granland he’s the guy who’s going to score that goal in the big game he scores in all the all the gold medal not the gold medal but the four nations games he scores the hat-tick in the playoffs he’s the one who steps up in those big moments and he’s also one who gets pretty scrappy i I just think that that’s a player that like I said to you before the show I would have taken Granland over Duchain if it was an either or situation so I think that priority Granland over Duchain here here’s how I look at it i look at you have a top five goalender right maybe even better than that you now have a top right winger right we’ll call better top yeah yeah okay so I I think that we feel that Hint is a damn good centerman and I think he can be more of a two-way center in all honesty i think he can be a guy that go out and be able to keep up and at some point play against a Conor McDavid you have a you have a cornerstone defenseman right so up the middle to me and then I’m not not even not even mentioning Wyatt right so you have all this can you just bring a coach in that coaches a different style that’s where I’m at so you think that with the same pieces a different system and you can again you may have to get at a couple pieces but the pieces aren’t those big guys yeah they’re they’re they’re more of the you know the middle six guys that they kind of drag the Mike Keane you know what I mean the guys that drag people into the fight and but you can always if you can get a coach that comes in and demands that this is the way we’re going to play we’re going to play this way in our zone we’ve got the goals we can score the goals we know that alls we’re going to do is tighten things up in our end a little bit and we’ve got a great goalender so instead of having him face a shot from right here let’s face shots from over there over here he can control him he can set him up give him a little space in front of his own i I mean I know we’re we’re trying to bring in the these players but I’m just wondering if that could be an option to say and and that goes with what you’re saying like if they’re if that’s the plan and they bring in a coach a new style all these things you don’t need to go get Marus and things like that bring back Granland it’d be great if you can if you can make that work for sure resign Jamie Ben bring run back mostly your same roster maybe you find a way to get a defenseman and then see how it goes the problem with seeing how it goes for this team is they could see how it goes and all the way to a president’s trophy it doesn’t matter 82 games that’s going to be the tough part for them is being able to see what their team needs in the first three months by New Year’s while also knowing that we could be really good in the regular season but we need to look at what this team is going to look like in seven games against Colorado and I and I my my that’s what I’m saying my thing is I think they need to play a different way yep and I think everybody can play because it’s actually an easier way to play for crying out loud it’s harder to chase guys all over the ice it’s an easier way to play positionally and you still turn pucks over and you’re still going to be able to go that way with your creativity your speed your goaling goal scoring ability and things like that okay yeah so if they bring in a coach who plays that different way do you think they still need a Cody Cece or Chris Taniff type player or do you think the defenseman they have now could do that if they play different the thing about having a CC a Labouchkin and I’ll even throw a Matt Dumba they’re gonna play where they’re supposed to be they’re not where they got in trouble was running around and losing the position and not being able to get back and getting caught yeah and this is a it’s a different kind of way to play it’s it’s actually an easier way to play because you just happen to be where you’re supposed to be playing so I think you can get away with those kind of guy i in the season or the playoffs in the playoffs i’m talking about playoffs because for me game one is starts the playoffs mhm game 25 is still the playoffs you’re playing you’re playing 82 playoff games and then hopefully you’re playing at least another 26 you know whatever it is playoff game you’re playing the playoffs all year long and by the time you get to game 83 you all of a sudden you find out that that the quality quality scoring chances and high danger chances have gone from here to here and your goalender maybe he can play another five games because he goes “This is pretty easy like I just do this and I do this and and I freeze it instead of having to do this this and come out and doing all this other stuff that that you don’t need to i I don’t know i I would like to see it you know attempted but I Well and I think that was their hope last year was that they had enough kind of collectively to put that defense together and then maybe fix it at the deadline and at the end of the day they those chances they weren’t really able to keep them down even with bringing in okay hold on here’s what I think hold on for one second no I’m saying this here’s what I think i think they they knew that they they felt that they could outscore their mistake they got a new sheriff that’s what I think all right up next we’ll do more of this here on DLS no I’m not talking anymore the rest of the show yes you will i’m saying this before we get to our final segment let’s talk about being a DLLS dieard and of course one of the big things is the sale that’s going on right now to be a diehard just $36 make a move make your move even you can get a huge playoff shirts with the captain in the moves all of those look great star shirts have the best ones of all the DLS shirts they’re phenomenal so sign up today all dls.com okay getting back to what you guys were just talking about the other rumors that we’ve been seeing in the last 24 hours is that the stars are in on or they’re interested in or players would be interested in Raasmus Anderson and Aaron Eckplad now the conversation around Calgary is that it’s just time for Anderson and uh the Flames to move on from each other on that before we get as you go okay well Anderson’s a right shot defenseman that would give you more depth on your right is Nils Lungquist the hope for him that he becomes a Raasmus Anderson type defenseman on the right side uh I think that might have been the hope two years ago or three years ago or whatever when traded for him well I think it depends on how he comes back this year because the start of last season we saw he really did have a have a I think his best start to uh his three seasons so far here he has bulked up i will say you you can say you can say just from being around him you can tell that he’s bulked up a fair bit but he has to prove that he can do that right that he can be more than just a complimentary kind of bottom four type player are you ready for him let’s say you’re four second pairing right shot defenseman are you ready to give him those keys i think in a perfect world he is more of a situational second or third pairing defenseman the main problem is special teams right he doesn’t really play special teams just kind of by default you’d like to bring in someone who can help you out like on the penalty kill especially because if you bring in someone like Anderson then probably you that Leouchkin and Dumba you know where are they going to play then well I think to get Anderson in your cap space of which the stars perpetually right now don’t have any you have to find a way to move both of those guys I’m of the and we’ve said this on the show before I’m of the take that the group you have now presuming that you move the Dumba contract So you can at least sign Jamie Ben and maybe something else because you only have nine forwards under contract at the moment i’m fine regular season with what you going in with that you got Lindell you’ve got Harley you’ve got Bishel down your left you’ve got Hastenan you have Leouchkin you have Lungquist and Petravic that’s a perfect perfectly fine seven for the regular season i think if they have to start the season like that they they could live with if you play the whole regular season like that but Luds is that good enough for your playoffs well I again I think coaching can make that difference i think you’ll find that if you play a different way or something different regardless what it is you may see that as and is Nils going to play ahead of Petro that’s the question isn’t it here’s the here’s what needs to happen for Niels he just needs to be able to play where he’s not worried about making a mistake and he gets pulled out of the lineup just let the kid play like and give them 20 games 30 games and work with him let Elaine just where whoever it’s going to be let him work with him he’s a skater and he’s a puck distributor you have to allow him to play that way you can’t just say you’re going to be pro and play you know 6’4 in front of your own net that’s not who he’s going to be he He needs to be a guy for me that the way he defends is with the puck with his feet he gets the puck he skates it he moves it i think he can I think he can pick up second second minutes on the power play you know and again that’s where you find more minutes from although what do you got you got Mirill and Harley you got Mero Harley yeah that’s gonna be tough i guess that’ll be tough get Mero off your power play then yeah that’s gonna happen i just think any any way you can take away minutes from Mero and Harley on special teams helps because you obviously want them on there but they’re going to be playing big minutes and they’ve tired out i think for Nils the interesting part that I’ve seen is he came in he was the flashy offensive guy he scored I forget who it was against he scored an unbelievable goal in overtime to win it in his first year scored a bunch of goals where he was basically circling around the zone thomas Harley liked goals but his defensive game was was weak then the next year he came back all the pressure was on his defensive game he got much better last year before he got hurt defensively sound he was a little more responsible but there were there was no offense there was no taking chances he needs to find that balance and I’d love to see exactly what Lud said give him a chance to actually be confident and believe in himself he could be a partner for Anessa Lindell right he he was last year for halfquist is he becomes the one who is Julius Hanka no uh he’s I think he’s already played more NHL games than he No but they similar players they’re similar stature i think I think Hanka never learned to never learned to to fit into a system honka was constantly making systemic mistakes things his coaches specifically were telling him not to do also locker room mistakes i guess I should have asked a question are they similar players like that they seem to me stature-wise skating wise niels is Niels has a couple inches on him i will say I think Niels is listed at six he’s probably like 5’11 but he’s listed at about six and he again he has bu bulked up i think Niels’s ceiling as a more complete defenseman is higher i think I think Honka back in the day the hope was that he could kind of be a you know a Kale Mar light you know no one was talking about back then or something like that yeah yeah i I just think for I think Mills could round his game better the the the one part of his game that will help him the most is confidence and that’s going to come from who’s behind the bench letting him you know again I’m not saying he’s going to make mistakes but everybody makes mistakes but I think if you just let him be who he is and see see what you get and then you know because I think just because he’s under sixfooter doesn’t mean you can’t kill penalties you know you’ve got a good stick and you play positionally well and you can get the pucks because if you want to be an aggre aggressive penalty kill you move you know you move and you take time and space away you can move the puck up well yeah and he moves it he stops and starts i I think that you could I think you could find minutes for him sam Gerard is what I always come back to in Colorado right there there’s a path there even like a what Jared Spurgeon whoever the guy is in Minnesota so there there are players that that he could absolutely follow in the path of That’s a great word yeah yeah and and all he but like you said he just needs to to do it and playing with playing with Lindell last year it seemed like he was really starting to feel comfortable and who wouldn’t feel comfortable playing next to the thing and the thing about Essa if you actually pay attention to what Essa does he does nothing he just does everything right like he gets the puck and he gives it to him he gets the puck and he gives it to him or he gets it and he flippers it’s a flipper and it bites and it’s out there and it creates chances and then he defends pretty well that that’s all he does and he’s just he’s a pleasure to watch and a joy to watch and you’re like and And everybody I said this before I mean you look at the end of the night and he’s played nine minutes on the PK alone but he doesn’t all he does is just he he’s in the right spot six and he doesn’t look clear the puck you know what I mean he doesn’t necessarily stand people up at the offensive blue line he’s like nah you know I’m just going to let him kind of skate himself into trouble and I’ll I’ll pinch him off here i mean he he’s a guy that you want you would be asking your defenseman whether they’re offensive or in the middle of the road or watch how Essa plays the game just it it’s just simple one last thing on this because we’re running out of time quickly and Robert we’re gonna have to talk about your trip to the AHL conference finals at another venture maybe we can do it on Friday during our when you pop in for our uh draft show you know once we’ve requested a pop in like some other societies it’s easy to easy to come what about what about the Aaron Ecklad rumors is that even feasible he wouldn’t cost you anything right to get to get Rasmus Anderson you’re having to send something pretty significant back you probably have to send something just to create the room for ECAD am I right but you could do like you could get rid of Leouchkin and Dumba probably and that clears out space for for you to lose versus let’s say resigning Cody Cece and and like I if they have Lushkin on their team they have him for two more years i’m totally fine with it i like him he’s a he’s a great guy he as Led says he does what he’s told or does does what he’s asked to do but would you if you could because the con the contracts were pretty similar would you flip Leouchkin for Cece if you could move that contract to get Cody Cece back in your top four i I don’t I don’t see CeCe being what this team needs i think he’s the things he’s good at he’s good at but I think they they we saw that against a really good team like Edmonton for for two rounds CC was really able to hold hold down things really really well but against Edmonton that pair with him and Lindel like you were saying some of the more simple parts of their game that work well when other things are going well those things weren’t enough to get past a team as complete and and dynamic as Edmonton ls do you like the Eblad idea is are you worried about the worried about a thing what about him holding up physically i want to go back to Cece for a second first thing I said when he came isn’t he playing on four team four teams in five years for me that’s a flag i’ve never watched him play well I shouldn’t say it i think I watched them play in uh did was he in Toronto yes yeah I I watched him and just you know nothing but but there’s a reason that you’re on them teams in that short period of time so anyway um as far as Ebog goes you think you’re a Stanley Cup contender you’re in that conversation all you got to do is just don’t let him play against Conor McDavid and he’s going to be awesome he has a hard time along with every other defense yeah you have plenty of guys who can do that yeah what I’m saying is that that’s it because what he does he he gets up in the play yet really well i never really paid attention to how much he is offensively but the biggest thing is yes you’re going to get you can get him for a million million and a half i’ll bet i mean he’s going to play for 800 if he stays there it’s the only place he can play which I’m sure he’d want to stay there if he could but it doesn’t sound like he will but regardless you bring that guy in and all of a sudden put him in the locker room oh yeah there you go physical mean that’s worth another million just to have that guy that’s been through it two times in a row and and the way he plays on the ice at what is he 36 35 I don’t know what he is yeah well he he and Clingberg had their rookie seasons the same year he was a few years younger than yeah he he came up in 2014 I mean to I I would give that guy a two-year he’s only 29 yeah cuz he started as a teenager remember he came up as a teen years old came up as a te No he came up as a teenager when 29 he just has been around for I sign him for four years not he’s just got a lot of miles he does have 1. I am about to watch, so I have no idea what the angle is going to be here. But how do you anticipate they would be able to swing signing Mitch Marner given the ongoing cap space crisis?

  2. Why would anyone want Marner if they are close to win SC, that guy has failed everytime when things get tough at playoffs. His true worth is about half what he gets atm, but there is always teams who need soft regular season figure skater to get playoffs.

  3. I just looked his stats. The Dallas Stars don't need this guy. What Dallas NEEDS is Highly affected DEFENSEMEN! Here's my thought! I would package Lindell and Hintz and see what l could get for them. You're picked up Rantanen you can use him as a key center. Dallas needs a forward defenseman. Dallas struggles to move the puck out of the defensive zone. They look for stretch passing, that leads to major turnovers. That occurs frenkly and gives up costly goals in every game. A 0:20 nd the game of DUMP and CHASE has to come to an end. Elite teams like Florida, Edmonton, Tampa Bay, North Carolina. Don't play this type of hockey. Dallas needs to fix this NOW! There's no doubt that a forward/ hard-hitting defenseman should be Dallas number concern. Period!

  4. Stars we cant Become the Cowboys and be Cheap and go 30 years of Losing and Coming up Short please Trade for Marner Keep Robo and Moose and go all in Win this city the Stanley Cup!

  5. Mitch Marner is the Missing Piece to Finally make the SCF and win the Whole thing It's time To get serious Dont give up Robo and Give Toronto whatever else they Want Mikko Marner Robo is a Championship team

  6. DFW needs Champions Stars get Mitch Marner without Giving up Robertson Vega’s can’t be the Only Hungry Franchise willling to do whatever to Win Cups. Make the Robo Moose Marner Big 3 !

  7. Please trade for Mitch Marner we need you guys to be Champions this city needs Champions 🏒🏆. Keep Jason Robertson and do what it takes to get him please

  8. Dumb question, Of course if you can get Marner Without Giving up Jason you get him 🤦🏻‍♂️ go get Mitch Marner guys

  9. Everyone who is saying grab him does not understand the problem of the team. These guys are saying it. Getting another guy who is great but not fixing the issue of playoffs. We don't need fancier players. We need a Bennett or a Mathew Tkuchuck. We need someone who will take the team to that grit we need. Collecting great players will not help you if they are not the guys we need. Just ask Nashville!
