Titans Minicamp Notes: Cam Ward’s Struggles, Bryce Oliver Shines, and MORE! | MCA Titans Podcast

titans mandatory mini camp is in the books Day one the offense won Day two the defense dominated Who won day three we’re going to break it all down now This is the Music City Audible Let’s get to it Oh welcome everyone to another episode of the Music City Audible podcast Tennessee Titans podcast for diehard fans only Thanks to everyone for tuning in We’re brought to you by Sinkers Beverages the premier wine spirits and beer store in East Nashville in partnership with 440 Sports I’m Justin Graver With me as always Justin Melo Justin how’s it going today doing well We deliver on our promise as we always do 3 days of mandatory mini camp three episodes of the Music City Audible This was the final practice before the team breaks away for about six weeks They will report to training camp on July 22nd Brian Callahan revealed that today with the first onfield work happening on the 23rd So this is our final episode until next week when we got to start filling time until training camp arrives So really glad that we get to talk about one final uh practice session here today Yeah the last bit of actual onfield football we get to talk about for a bit But we’re not going to stop doing episodes It just we’re going to have to come up with topics which is great You know we get to be creative and talk about what we want to talk about instead of just reacting to everything that’s happening on the field But we like reacting to that too So we’re going to get into it now Day three was a red zone drill day and I think it might have been Cam Ward’s worst day of the mini camp period based on the reporting that we’ve seen and heard but he did have his fair share of moments that were positive as well We’re going to break it down and we’re going to start as we always do with Cam Ward So Cam Ward threw his first interception that the media got to witness during Tuesday’s practice and then proceeded to complete every other pass attempt that he threw in a competitive period Wednesday’s practice a little more up and down Thursday’s practice Cam Ward throws two interceptions Let’s start with the interceptions before we talk about the good plays because one of them might have Titans fans feeling a little less hopeful a little less excited about this prospect Maybe I’m overreacting Cam Ward reportedly bought a lot of time in the pocket It was during seven on seven rolled out buying time scrambled drill the classic Cam Ward stuff that we’ve seen so many highlight plays come from but that we’ve also seen some of his biggest mistakes come from And on this rep he launches the ball across his body back towards the middle of the field Reporters out there said nobody was really open in the area where he threw it And Cody Barton picks him off for the second time in three days This is like the if there’s a red if Cam Ward has a red flag this is the red flag It was the boneheaded turnovers you know trying to do too much and throwing the ball up into traffic during the scramble drill Now again as I just said some of his best plays some of the most impressive things he does and like the thing that could make him a special player is his ability to improvise out of structure and make big plays But almost all of his interceptions I I think the major the big majority of his interceptions at least last season at Miami came on similar plays where he’s rolling out and he throws it back across the field across his body into traffic So he did that in practice today He also had another interception in the red zone where he rolls out off play action and just can’t get it into Calvin Ridley gets picked off Are you concerned at all that Cam Ward is I mean for lack of a better phrase trending down over the last three days or is it you know it’s different types of periods The first day Tuesday was was kind of just like an everything practice Wednesday was a third down two-minute drill practice Thursday’s a red zone practice So obviously it’s not all the same situation but it does appear that Cam Ward got a little had a little bit worse performance in each passing day of mini cam Any concerns no I mean it’s June That first interception we’ll get into his quotes because it was a lot of fun but it happened on seven on seven Uh like you said the last two days that situations are not quite as advantageous with red zone work and you know two-minute work third down work No you’d be Look there was plenty of good from Cam Ward over the three day I mean that first day was downright dominant There’s plenty of good uh that Cam Ward did throughout the three days You heard Brian Callahan talk about it before Thursday’s practice He had said he had gotten better every single day and that’s what you want to see when he gets on the field I don’t know if that opinion would have continued in that direction after Thursday’s practice but they’ve seen plenty of good from Cam Ward over three days Mandatory mini camp It’s June This wasn’t like oh dear Lord he was terrible all three days You know that might create some cause for concern even in June but that was not the case at all Big nothing burger No not a big deal Yeah I I’m with you It’s just like it’s one of those things where I think sometime during this break period we’re going to do an episode I want to do an episode that I’m kind of workshopping a title intrusive thoughts It’s like these are the the thoughts about the upcoming season that I’m trying to push to the back of my mind because I don’t like them but they might have some validity And I think one of those intrusive thoughts is like what if this turnover issue that you know it’s not like he turned the ball over a ton last year but it’s the way that he turned it over What if that manifests itself at a higher rate in the NFL and like there’s a lot more ups and downs than we hope for you know we’re hoping for mostly ups What if there’s more downs that’s kind of where I’m at on this thing It’s not like I’m concerned but it definitely has me like perking up a little bit like okay let’s see how let’s see if we can see less of that when they put the pads on in training camp That that’s kind of where I’m at Let’s take a listen to Cam Ward’s quote because he was asked after practice about the two interceptions Um the first one 707 I don’t count that It’s not real football Um I’m glad I throw it to Cody That was six points for my team The the second one I should have side armed it I don’t know why I did some generic stuff And really just getting better off the field Uh got to continue to move backwards with my eyes Um and then really just you know playing clean football especially in the red zone I have to take care of the ball I’m aware of that Uh but you know I rather do all the crazy stuff in practice over the game I know I can get away with So he doesn’t even count seven on seven as real football which make first I mean that’s the funniest part of this it but that makes me wonder was he throwing this ball because it’s seven on seven It’s the end of a drill like it’s or the end of this play in a drill and in reality he would have just like dumped the ball out of bounds and you know taken it and gone to the next down Was he just like okay well it’s a seven on seven drill it’s not real I’m just going to fling this across the middle and see what happens And he also said at the end of the clip there that you know it’s better to do this stuff in practice so that when he gets to a real game he knows what he can and can’t get away with We’ve talked about that multiple times over the last couple weeks that that’s sort of a philosophy that Brian Callahan is encouraging the quarterbacks to attack these practices with So hearing him talk about it definitely makes me less concerned You know saying like I know I got to protect the ball I’m aware of that Like of course we know that he knows that Will Lev said some some things like that too last year and then continued to turn the ball over There’s also noted that Cam Ward fumbled the ball I think it was stripped by Draymond Jones or something like he fumbled the ball in this practice as well deep in the red zone So the kinds of plays that you can’t really make like you don’t want to take points off of the board And we saw Will Levis make countless red zone turnovers last year The one against the Jets sticks out in my mind where he tries to lateral the ball to Taj Spears and basically rolls it on the turf to him But um overall I think hearing Cam Ward talk about it and you know they’re going to go review the film and he only he knows if he would have thrown the ball out of bounds in that seven one and he talked about how the other one like I think he said I I should have side armed it instead of doing that generic stuff Um but I think him talking about it makes me as a fan feel a little better Yeah as it should It pretty funny to hear him just immediately say “Well seven on seven is not real football.” That kind of tells you how you know seriously he’s taken a rep like that And I agree probably at the end of a rep going “Well let me see if I can give my guy a chance to make a play on the ball.” And if he doesn’t then it is what it is and we just move on My favorite part about the clip is that the reporters burst out laughing when he says “I threw it to Cody Barton so that’s six points for my team.” And his face like doesn’t change It’s not like he smiles like “Yeah that was a joke.” It’s just like completely the same the whole time he’s talking But there was a lot of positive stuff in this practice too I think Cam Ward threw three touchdowns in the red zone period seven on seven and a full team combined And one of them was to Bryce Oliver one of them was to Julius Chestnut who made a one-handed catch one of them was to David Martin Robinson which you know is a lot of different guys right like none of those guys are top of the roster Yeah exactly Um so it’s interesting that that we know that they’re rotating these guys and that none of that means anything But it’s nice to see that like yeah the these turnovers happen but it also doesn’t affect his ability to bounce back And overall again I’m not worried I think today might have been the least eventful day in terms of like things that happened in practice to talk about So that’s kind of all I really have on the topic but I did want to mention two other things he said after practice just cuz he’s dropping fbombs like it’s nothing Um he had two different quotes One he was asked about trash talking with Jeffrey Simmons and he said like “I love to let them know they can’t f with me.” Except he didn’t say F And then they asked him what he’s going to do this off seasonason He said “Study the playbook and work work out and throw the F out of the ball.” And again he didn’t say F So uh he’s fired up He’s excited And he’s just he’s a really good quote for a guy who is kind of low-key um and who hasn’t gotten much attention which I’m about to talk about But uh yeah I just it’s fun hearing him talk about football Yeah those two quotes had me cracking up and they came pretty close together right he was dropping fbombs in like Jim Wyatt’s video and stuff and I was surprised Jim didn’t have to put like a not safe for work warning in front of that one Cody Barton dropped a uh in one of Jim Wyatt’s videos as well So yeah the guys were having fun out there today that’s for sure Yeah Um all right I want to talk about some other players that stood out in practice on Thursday But to do the 30 second clock because I don’t want to take up too much of the show with this So I’m going to give myself 30 seconds to rant on something And here we go 3 2 1 start Kyle Brandt shut up Shut up Stop it I’m tired of it You know what Kyle Brandt’s been doing if you’re a Titans fan on Twitter I’m sure you’ve seen it He’s gone on Good Morning Football multiple times to joke about how the Tit about how nobody’s talking about Cam Warden If they talk about Cam Warden he’s going to get yanked off the air It was funny the first time It was kind of funny the second time The third time Thursday morning he’s making the exact same jokes over and over again They are talking more about how nobody’s talking about Cam Ward than they are actually talking about Cam Ward I ran out of time but that’s my rant I’m just just talk about him You don’t have to make the same joke every time you bring him up I just when you gave me the 30 secondond buzzer was on Gabe Davis I absolutely nailed it That was not as good as I was No my clock management needs a little work Um I didn’t workshop that in my head I didn’t really know where I was going or how much I was going to say But uh do you am I out of pocket here is it like still funny to Titans fans to see a Good Morning Football clip where Kyle Brandt literally makes the same joke multiple times jokes that he’s already made and like nobody actually watches Good Morning Football Everyone just watches clips So we’ve all seen it We’ve all seen this joke multiple times TV right like they can’t get into real X’s and O’s in-depth football stuff right so I I haven’t seen any of it but no it doesn’t surprise me Like I I support Kyle Brandt for wanting to talk about Cam Ward and like being excited about Cam Ward He went on to he did say some interesting stuff that like he thinks the Titans will be three and one in September and everyone’s going to be talking about Cam Ward as if they’ve been celebrating him this whole time which I kind of if the Titans end up 3-1 which kind of a long shot then I agree people will be talking about him like they’ve been celebrating the whole time But I’d rather he just go talk about Cam Ward than continue to talk about how nobody’s talking about him And it’s it’s like I’ve heard that five times on five different talk shows over the last week about how this is the least talked about number one pick of all time And no disrespect to our buddy Zack Lions who’s literally talking about this on 1045 the zone right now Um but I think he’s reacting to the Kyle Brandt clip as well And it is true I feel like Camar is one of the least talked about number one picks But again that phrase has been said more time People have spent more time talking about it than they have actually spent talking about him and what he’s doing in Tennessee and the whatever So anyway that’s my rant Let’s talk about some other players Let me know in the comments if you agree with me or if I’m totally out of pocket with this one but some other players that stood out in practice today And we have to start with Bryce Oliver And I think Bryce Oliver’s day on Thursday Justin is a lesson to me personally to all of us who you know follow these training camp not training camp but mini camp practices And when we get to training camp practices like we follow every single play that happens as if we’re like we’re living and dying with every single report Maybe we should take a pause take a step back and try to view the broader picture because I think I said on Tuesday that Bryce Oliver was sort of falling out of the wide receiver competition because we hadn’t really heard much from him throughout all of OTAAS and then he roars back on Thursday with three touchdowns I think from three different quarterbacks at least from two different quarterbacks Um just like and I think Tikeke Tolbert said look this is what he does when he has his opportunity The man just scores touchdowns So Bryce Oliver where does he stand right now for you in terms of his chances to make this team well I I think you know the receivers who are guaranteed to make this team are uh you know Van Jefferson obviously Uh I Yeah I think so I think Van Jefferson makes the team I I think uh Chimray DK uh Alec Iman or Calvin really that’s four You know Tyler Lockett makes five I’d probably put I’m so tempted to put Xavier Restripo there I would say he’s the favorite for the sixth spot I actually see a possibility where the Titans carry seven I really do And if they carry seven it’s Bryce Oliver right and if in my if they only carry six probably comes down to Bryce Oliver versus Xavier Restrepo I don’t know Obviously everyone’s in love with Restrepo Oliver did play some pretty good reps on special teams last year and then he did do some good things at receiver towards the end of the season We started getting reps So uh I think Bryce Oliver’s you know got a better shot than Burks for example Probably going to come down to how many they end up keeping It’s crazy to think you know we all hated on the receivers three months ago and now we’re saying well they might keep seven right i mean we’ll see training camp will obviously make these determinations but I think Bryce Oliver is very very much alive in the battle at wide receiver Yeah I do too And I don’t think Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett are both locks Like I think Tyler Lockett is a lock Well his name is Lockett so maybe we should just lock it up with him on the roster But haha bad joke Justin shut up But my my point is like these guys were signed to pretty low veteran deals Lockett was on the market for a long time I’m not saying that they’re like on the bubble or anything I just don’t know that they’re guaranteed locks to make That’s crazy That’s a crazy thing to say about Tyler Lock Absolutely He’s second best receiver on the team Future you know fringe fringe Canton guy in my opinion What so consistent So consistent Super Bowl winner The leadership the veteran experience in the room there There’s no way in hell they’re cutting Tyler I’m not saying that I even think he doesn’t make the roster I’m just saying there’s a chance that they want to have a youth movement It depends on how well the rookies play and how much they think they can rely on them to play you know the Lion’s share of snaps in this offense But I I think that there if Bryce Oliver wants to make this team he’s got to beat out a rookie or a veteran like one of the older veterans right or Jefferson probably Yeah If they don’t keep seven right or or they keep seven They you know he forces them to keep him because he’s just too talented But it is interesting you say that that now we’re like talking about how they might keep seven receivers That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re all good It just means they all have something that we want to keep seeing develop and see where it goes Cuz like there’s a shot not a not that long of a shot that DK or Manor or Restrepo just aren’t good at all And you know like Treyen Burks isn’t good at all He was a first round pick that we were very excited about during his first mini camp So we’ll see how these guys develop But Tike Tolbert also talked about those three rookies and he seems very impressed Everything every time we’ve heard them speak you know to the media after practice or before practice we’ve been pretty impressed And I do think that they are like mentally ahead of where a typical rookie receiver has been And part of that is Cam Ward bringing them into the facility at 5:00 a.m But part of that is just them their own work ethic and their own football intelligence And Tyke Tikeke Tolbert said that Ayam Maner and DK play with a lot of speed like you know they’re fast guys but they play with that speed which means they’re not spending too much time thinking They’re just going and playing football which is a great sign for a rookie because a lot of times we talked about it that’s what slows them down is having to think about what am I actually supposed to be doing on this play And then with Restrepo he didn’t go as far as to say that he is fast He actually said I don’t think he like he’s not that fast but he wins He just gets open He uses his savvy to just get open He keeps getting open And if you can get open you can play in this league And so he had praise for all three guys Now I think the coaching staff in general does a good job of just like gassing up everyone that they’re ever asked about They just say incredible things about them So I don’t know how much to read into Tolbert’s comments but he did have really good things to say about all three of the rookies Well I thought it was pretty accurate right like when he talked about Restrepo he flat out said he’s not the most athletic guy He’s not the fastest guy but he knows how to get open He’s savvy And it it doesn’t always take speed to get open It takes smarts and savviness It’s almost the typical you know New England Patriots slot receiver that we compare every white slot receiver to right but it’s like Wes Walker wasn’t super fast and these guys weren’t super Juliano was not super fast but you know how to get open That’s what Xavier Strepo does I thought it was a fairly good and accurate description of all three rookie receivers Yeah You know another guy that didn’t have the fastest 40 time Cooper Cup was a 4-6 guy who plays mostly in the slot and had you know triple crown leading the NFL in receptions receiving yards and receiving touchdowns a few years ago So yeah it doesn’t always speed is not everything And I think we’re seeing that we we know that as football fans that speed is not everything Um when I talk about the coaches gassing up everyone they talk about when they’re asked about them one guy who was not asked about who Brian Callahan just brought up to say this guy deserves a shout out is Corey Levan I know you had some thoughts on the O line here and what Callahan said before practice You want to take this yeah I do want to take this one Uh Brian Callahan brought up Cory Levan earlier on Thursday totally unprompted was a question about offensive line depth and Brian Callahan said paraphrasing of course but we are so lucky to have a guy like Cory Leven you know our starting center Lloyd Cushenberry he’s been sidelined coming back from an Achilles injury he was only available during stretch periods at OTAAS and mini camp so Cory Leven is the run running the first team offense and Callahan praised them just the way he’s running the operation I mean think about it you’ve got a rookie quarterback a number one pick in his first mini campers one of their most important positions They made them locker mates I believe Uh Cam Ward and Lloyd Cushenberry Yeah that’s incredibly important Shows you how the relationship between quarterback and center with Lloyd not out there for team period Seven on seven 11 on 11 You know that could hinder Cam Ward a little bit but it’s not because they’ve got a guy like Cory Leven that has stepped in seamlessly He started games for them last year uh when uh a little bit when Kushenberry went down They resigned him earlier this off season That’s a new GM right going from Carthon to Mike Borggoni they still bring Corey Lean back U to the football nerd in me like you know they signed Sam Mustapher in April who’s like a veteran reserve center himself I know like Eastston Freeze I was going to joke about it but he beat me to the punch He had like Mustafer on his first 53man roster projection over Cory Leaven That didn’t sound like the case today when Brian Callahan was talking about how important Cory Lean is to the team He ended that answer by saying uh if he’s a depth guy for us that’s fantastic So to me you know Cory Leven’s got probably a strangle hold on that number two center job Why do we care about it well Kush is still coming back from an Achilles There’s a pretty good chance he starts training camp on the the pup list physically unable to perform you think he’d be ready for week one most likely But if he if he is still limited at camp Cory Leven’s going to continue getting those first team reps continue building that rapport with uh Cam Ward So I just thought that was a really interesting answer he gave um you know on Cory Leven and what he’s meant to the team this off seasonason I also want to talk about another reserve lineman Uh he was asked about Blake Hance who they signed in free agency earlier this year By the way I find it I don’t blame him and I’m not I don’t know it’s a thing but I always find it weird when he refers to Bill Callahan as my dad Like how many football coaches get saying my dad instead of saying coach Bill or Coach he said my dad anyway casually He just like “Yeah you know we’re working with my dad’s working with him and talking to it’s like “Oh oh right.” Yeah He actually said “Well my you know my dad knew him They worked in Cleveland together with the Browns.” This I found interesting because I didn’t know it So he said that of you know of course he’s been getting the bulk of the reps with Kevin out So when Kevin Zyler was not practicing I guess we didn’t actually know who was getting those first team reps at right guard I kind of assumed it was Jackson Slater uh or or one of you know Andrew Rupsich like one of the vets who’s been there for a couple years Now we learn uh that it was in fact Blake Hance getting those reps and then Cali you know went to talk about the swing tackle position and he mentioned what I wasn’t expecting he mentioned everyone but Blake Hance He mentioned Jaylen Duncan he mentioned John Ajoku and I believe he mentioned Eli Udo I think was the third he mentioned in that battle And again the football nerd in me when I heard that I go “Oh interesting.” Like when they signed Blake Hance you know he had mentioned he’d played both tackle and guard but I’ve always been operating under the assumption that Hance is probably the swing tackle Then he doesn’t mention him there Well credit Paul Kaharski for knowing what the football nerds we were just arguing with Paul the other day but credit Paul Kaharski for knowing what the football nerds want to know because he asked the followup about “Well would Blake Hance be in that mix at swing tackle?” And that’s when Cali said “Well when training camp comes around we envision yes because you know Kevin Zitler will be getting those first team reps at right guard.” Thought it was important to note that because it made me scratch my head when he didn’t mention him But uh I thought those things were no because I’ve been operating under the assumption that Blake Hance probably is going to be the swing tackle because the other options are not good in my opinion Right That’s what I was going to say If Blake Hans is not the swing tackle the Titans are dead in the water if JC Laam or Dan Moore get hurt because the other guys I mean I don’t know how much better Blake H is in the options they have but he’s probably a bit better than Well I mean Jaylen Duncan and John and Jooku have been unplayable when they’ve been on the field in my opinion They can’t cannot get worse than those two guys So I would rather see what Blake Hans is even if he’s more of a guard than a tackle than give those guys He’s played tackle He’s played tackle at the NFL level So I I thought I thought both of those things the Cory 11 one was especially intriguing to me And while we’re talking about O line let’s talk about Dan Moore quickly because you know I said the other day that Feiola Deja was like one of the most important players for this Titans team if they want to actually be good this year and actually compete Dan Moore is in that conversation as well Maybe we should do an episode Justin on like the five most important Titans or something coming up here as we brainstorm live on the show what we’re going to talk about the next few weeks But um Bill Callahan and Brian Callahan both talked about Dan Moore We both asked about Dan Moore both talked about him Um is he they the question was basically is has he been everything that you hoped he would be since he showed up and they both kind of said “Yeah pretty much yes.” and they both talked about how he’s been working on his technique with Bill Callahan and like like really taking the coaching and improving there but also in terms of like leadership and veteran presence on the O line and like being someone that can be like a stabling factor on that left side where the Titans have just been turnurning through replacement level or below replacement level tackles since Taylor Lewan got injured and retired The Titans haven’t had like a solution at either tackle spot and obviously they draft JC Laam last year Now he looks like a long-term answer on the right side Can Dan Moore be a longishterm answer on the left side you know at least two to three years He’s got got a four-year contract Granted it’s worth a lot of money And can he take an extra step in his own abilities now that he’s being coached by Bill a guy like Bill Callahan who has a legendary reputation That’s sort of the hope But it sounds like Dan Moore has been as advertised so far which I think as long as the Titans get a baseline average level of play out of the left tackle spot Like that’s what I think people maybe don’t realize is that Dan Moore doesn’t have to come in and be Trent Williams or even Taylor Lewan or he just has to be not one of the worst tackles in football for the Titans offense to see a huge boost And I think that that’s sort of where we’re at with him right now and we’ll see if he can be better than that Um any other thoughts here on anything that happened at practice any other names that somebody talked about or that spoke or anything before we transition to sort of looking ahead no I I thought again the story of the day for me was the Cory Leven Blake Hance quote So then what Bryce Oliver did of course you know Cam Ward always but also what Bryce Oliver did at practice to kind of get himself back into the mix The other Cam Ward interception by the way uh was by UDFA Let’s give him some credit because I think that ball was intended for Calvin Ridley if I recall correctly So yeah the fact that Davien Ross a UDFA out of I believe Memphis uh is covering Calvin Ridley on a rep and comes away with an interception you know hats off to Dave Ross as he battles with 73 other you know backend players to to make the roster at cornerback And I opened this podcast by asking the question who won day three we can answer it now towards the end of the show here The defense The defense won day three again And we were wondering sort of like you know that it was abnormal for the offense to be ahead of the defense at this stage Maybe the defense has caught up already and now the offense is going to have to do their own catching up because after the last two days it does seem like the defense is ahead right now And you know they’re going up against a rookie quarterback and then Tim Bole and Brandon Allen and Will Levis Like if the if the defense isn’t winning the reps against those three quarterbacks I think we have bigger issues But um yeah even against Cam Ward you know obviously getting picked off three times now in the last 3 days We’ll see how things unfold Looking ahead you mentioned it at the top Titans will report to training camp on July 22nd Onfield actual practices will start on Wednesday July 23rd There’s going to be a ramp up period 7 to 10 days or so before they can even put pads on and they’ll you know be on the field for a handful of days in a row and then they’ll be off the field and they’ll be back on for a handful of days in a row Like we we know how training camp works uh by this point you know covering the team and we’ll be back to recap training camp practices as they’re happening But we’re going to fill the time talking about this team looking ahead to the season and I’m excited for it Don’t you have a video you didn’t do that yet right like Cam Ward year one expectations or statistical expectations yes You know Justin I have a list of videos that I would love to make How the Titans can build a Super Bowl contender in the next two years Cam Ward rookie stat projections Jeffrey Simmons and the Superstar Arc how VR is taking over the NFL and sort of a rewatch and evaluation of the 2024 Titans season You can skip that one That’s Yeah I’m pretty close on the VR one But I actually wouldn’t mind some feedback from our audience on like which of the other ideas would you prefer I work on first cuz I do question my own abilities to finish all five of these before training camp starts just cuz I’m pretty busy Um Cam Ward stats one is a no-brainer Okay maybe that’ll be the next one after the VR after I finish the VR one Let us know in the comments what you think And you know Cam Ward’s going to be you know he said he’s gonna throw the f out of the football over these few days They asked Alec Manor on after Tuesday’s practice actually like what his plans were for the break and he said he’s going to be staying in Nashville moving into his apartment and he said he’ll be throwing with Cam Ward They asked Brian Callahan before today’s practice You know do you are you aware of any like throwing sessions that have been organized and Callahan said like I don’t think the plans have been finalized Like I’m not fully aware of that Maybe you have to ask them but I do think they are going to be getting together to throw and I’m almost 100% sure Cam Ward is going to lead the charge there and get his guys out on a practice field somewhere so they keep getting reps in because it is kind of weird that they’ve put all this work in Bill Callahan talked about this They put all this work in for all these OTAA sessions and then they have to take a multi-week break and sort of lose all the momentum they built and then build it back up again for training camp before they can put pads on So these guys are going to stay in shape I think there’s a lot of players on this team who are motivated to continue working really hard during this time off and go work on their craft go work on their technique I think um JC Laam said he was going to be working with Duke Merryweather this whole time like working on like because he said this is the last chance you have to hone your own technique before you are in the throws of the season So lots of good stuff coming for the Titans And that’ll do it for this episode But thanks again to Sinker Beverages Premier Wine Spirits and Beer Store in East Nashville Thanks again to all of you for tuning in 1. Love the pod gents, I don't always write, but I'm always tuning in. Great to remember a guy named Jerry Rice, ran a 4.71 40yd. A far different era, but always good to remember. My #1 WR of all time.

  2. Hearing Cam had struggles is actually what you want to hear at this stage in the offseason. It means that he’s getting his mistakes out of the way and that he’ll learn that he can’t get away with some of the things he did in college in the pros.

  3. Nothing to get excited about. Maybe wait until things get more real. Ward probably will make a few mistakes being a rookie. The Justins are the two most geek looking guys doing football. Going on a limb but have either ever played football at any level?

  4. Just off top, I like both of you fellas grooming techniques, looks like Justin on the right has got a line up on his beard and a fresh cut, and my boy Justin Melo went all the way and got him a training camp cut. Y'all looking good on and fresh, there's nothing wrong with being handsome. Now I'm about to watch the show, which I always love, but you did say for Die Hard Titans fans I don't know if I would call myself a die-hard Titans fan but they are my team and have been for I suppose about 27 years

  5. I’d honestly like the rewatch and review of 2024 most out of those. Lots of poor Callahan decisions/mistakes we need to see improvements on, or else he’s not the guy

  6. Regarding Ward’s turnovers, they feel more like solo home runs given up by a pitcher than huge momentum swings. Even after the pick 6 when they were already losing at Miami it didn’t affect the next play, so this is the once case I can accept a few turnovers in exchange for a lot of chunk plays and first downs! Brett Farve-esque gunslinger pros and cons. QB’s who fall apart after mistakes are whatcha can’t have!

  7. Definitely looking too deep into it but Father Callahan didn’t sound sold on Moore to me lol the tone to his initial answer kinda sounded hesitant and he rambled for about a minute and 20 seconds about how he wishes they had more time/a different offseason structure. Hope it works out!

  8. Watching this from a private beach house in Cape Cod. Rocked my draft day Cam Ward Nike shirt to dinner and two Miami fans here on vacation as well told me they were newly converted Titans fans. The hype is real!! Titan up!!!!

  9. Cam Ward struggles is the biggest click bait title so far. Guys really going too far. 3 day mini camp and this what we are talking about.

  10. Hey Graver, I'd like to hear recap of the 24 season. I plan to send this summer watching the games and see where special teams, turnovers, penalties, or pass rush etc had the biggest impacts. We ranked 32nd in turnovers and 30th in sacks, 32nd in special teams 30-32 offensive line. If we move those to 20th in the league how many more wins could we have. Talk about these stats and what improvement could mean. Joeboo from China

  11. Posting before I listen to you guys on it so I’m not influenced lol, but I’m not super worried about the ugly turnovers/cross body stuff. I watched all of his games in college a few times and he really didn’t do it as much as people act like. There were only a handful of REALLY bad turnovers IMO. If it does end up being a huge problem though at least we can know Cally failed to develop TWO different guys and we’ll have somebody new next year to hopefully get the job done.

Maybe I’m just a football boomer but I hate the “it’s 7 on 7 it’s not real football”, he’s right but he should still take accountability and not make excuses for throwing a boneheaded pick. Practice how you play.

  12. i'd like to see us carry ridley, jefferson, and lockett as our preliminary starters and slowly work in the rooks (X, elic, chim) throughout the year. I agree that we should carry 7 WRs. oliver seems to have emerged from the garbage pile of burks kinsey and JQJ then, huh? maybe i missed someone else

  13. I'm surprised at the high expectations for our 4th round WR picks when history says they will be very lucky to get 500 yards. Just another reason that Lockett is a lock.

  14. I'm surprised at the high expectations for our 4th round WR picks when history says they will be very lucky to get 500 yards. Just another reason that Lockett is a lock.

  15. Gravedigger – you're right about the media doing bits about Cam not being talked about rather than actually talking about him.
Gravedigger – you're wrong in overreacting to 2 interceptions in June.

Thanks for these three episodes. Especially as someone without twitter, where a lot of the discourse on the minicamps still resides.

  16. As I think more and more (LOL) about the upcoming season, I see it resting on how well Moore performs- He could be outstanding, allowing Ward time to throw TDs or he could be Dillard 2.0 and we'll see Ward be picked up off his back-shaken and losing his confidence🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  17. This is who Cam is. Media made narrative of whatever bs narrative they said about shedeur opposite of Cam. He is confident and combative. I'm not saying in a negative way. Both Cam and shedeur are great. I'm saying the narrative Media has on Cam is not who is. He is no nonsense guy. The only thing media right on him is that he is a hard worker and obviously good player. Rest of narrative is not who he is

  18. You guys are only talking about Cam is struggles. That is good at end of the day he is rookie. Its good the fans know the good and bad. So ppl dont put too much expectations on him. Even jayden daniels struggled first 3 games then had best rookie season

  19. Kyle went viral first time. He keeps doing to go viral. He doesn't care Cam. He wasted 2 or 3 segments instead talking Cam. He was ranting and making jokes. You right to calling him out

  20. Corey Levin doesn’t get enough love from this fanbase. Brother has been signed by THREE different GMs and continues to be a good asset. Almost every time he’s been let go by the Titans he didn’t go elsewhere (he did go to the Jets once lol) and waited for us to come crawling back. He’s the OL version of Mason Kinsey!!

Fun fact: I once complained about a performance of his on Twitter and his aunt replied to me and put me in my place lol

  21. I DO think Cam Ward will become conscious about what downs and situations to choose throw aways, but he will never even TRY to avoid turnovers. It would inhibit his play-making, decisions, timing, and self trust. We just hope they’re more like solo home runs given up by a pitcher like they were in college as opposed to the huge momentum swings that interceptions can be. QB’s who fall apart mentally for the rest of a game afterwards are what you can’t have. We have completely different Levis conversations last year if he had shown an ounce of resiliency or leadership after his mistakes
