Jonathan Toews is a Winnipeg Jet | WST Sunday Live
[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] it’s WST Sunday Live hosted by Connor Rapjack Liz Hood and Jacob Staler good morning everyone and welcome back to another edition of WST Sunday Live my name is Connor Rabchack as always joined today by Liz Hood and we’re going to be breaking down the Winnipeg Jets signing Jonathan Taves obviously the biggest news of the week really the only news of the week uh and then later on maybe we’ll touch on the Bombers the more offseason talk for the Winnipeg Jets we got a lot to get to today thank you for joining us 9:00 a.m on a Sunday and after signing Jonathan Taves list the dedication to go to Taves Lake how are you no I’m kidding where have your travels taken you this Sunday morning yeah I actually think I’m about Lake of the Woods and I think uh I’m pretty sure Jonathan Taves does have a place in Lake of the Woods i think this is a thing that I have heard before so uh yeah I uh doing some Intel Big Journalism never sleeps but uh yeah out in Clear Water Bay this weekend having a good time with some pals but uh you never want to miss an opportunity to jump on here and chat with all of you on a Sunday morning can never can never miss that opportunity and I do just want to say before we get into the talk of Jonathan Taves and the Jets list you and I were both at the Winnipeg Sports Talk Gold Eyes Night this week and we had an absolute blast here’s the photo the big group photo thank you to Al Brick um for bringing a camera like that was such a great idea um and look at all these legends uh this is this is awesome it was such a nice night at the ballpark we had the whole patio deck um the gold eyes won 87 in a thriller we had some great food saw Ken Wee Minty from the Freep were able to make it out so it was a very fun night just want to start with that by saying thank you to everyone who joined us and if you’re here on the podcast we’re showing the group the big group photo right now um and it was it was such a fun night list oh my gosh I had a blast it was you know choosing what to eat for dinner everyone had different things i ended up following in uh Michael Reis’ footsteps and going to get some famous Daves and it was fantastic connor ended up getting some Salisbury house and you know we all shared there had some ice cream nachos afterwards i introduced a lot of people to the ice cream nachos they hadn’t heard of them before and I think lives were changed we uh we had some good snacks it was a really good time and yeah I mean I think that’s a Canadian heritage minute right there that photo i don’t think there’s so many faces in that photo it was so nice to get to talk to everyone so nice to see everyone what a great turnout what a great setup i love the patio situation where you could you know everyone there you turn around and you know if you haven’t met before you have the common ground of being a WSTR so you can chat and and everyone gets to to know one another and it’s a really awesome community so we had such a blast on Thursday it was a great time yeah it it really was thank you everyone who who made it out bought tickets the the setup of it was so great because we were at a table and you had to get wristbands to get to the patio deck so we were able to see everyone coming into the stadium first off um and then obviously during the game we were mingling there on the patio deck so that was a great night thank you everyone who bought tickets um and made it out there Thursday at the Gold Eyes game we’ll have to do that again maybe later in the summer definitely next year it’s a great annual thing i did I missed it last year and I’m kicking myself even more because it was so much fun i was like how could I have missed this the first time but um that was a great time but we’ve got stuff to discuss list because that night nobody knew but then the next morning it was announced that Jonathan Taves is signing with the Winnipeg Jets a one-year deal 2 million and I think we’ll we’ll get into the contract and the base salary and the bonuses and all of the the nuance that kind of goes into that but listen I first want to start the conversation about Jonathan Taves with how well the Jets social media team did announcing it uh and all of that like the the excitement that comes with an announcement like this needs to be met with tons of great content and the Jets delivered i’ll I’ll pull up these two photos first of on the left there’s the Jonathan Taves wearing number 19 video where you know David Gustoson is now probably one Rolex richer but everyone was wondering is he going to wear 19 is he going to wear 16 like he did uh with team Canada back in the day uh no they had a great video ready to go of a Taves jersey being stitched up there uh and then on the right is the Dakota Community Center Jonathan Tave Sportslex with the sign under it saying he’s home that is such like a nice touch um for a hometown you know kid uh we want to say 37year-old kid Jonathan Taves coming home to Winnipeg but listen I think the excitement that an announcement like this um brings out of a fan base was met by everyone involved at least right off the bat yeah absolutely i think the the situation with this the roll out of this news was kind of interesting in the sense that I feel like we saw the Elliot Freeman Chris Johnson rumors whatever they finally kind of said that Jonathan Hayes made his decision Jonathan Hayes to Winnipeg whatever we know that there’s been the name circulating for a while Jets Colorado whatever but within what five 10 minutes of like the Elliot Freeman can we news drop whatever the team was able to pull pull the trigger on their official announcement as well and the Jets social team was able to kind of be right in there with the first things because something as big as that people in the Jets community are going to start sharing it and you know I’m not trying to be the marketing major loser here but like when there’s an opportunity to be the person that is making the post that people are sharing you want to jump on that opportunity you want people to be sharing at NHL Jets content not at Elliot Freeman content right like that’s what you want as a team so they were able to get all that content out there really quickly and there was a lot more of that being shared around then sometimes if there’s too much space in between when the the big insider guys drop the news that you know is real and when the team actually makes the official announcement so the timing was great and then the quality was very good as well you know like all those things that you just mentioned um lots of of clips from John’s winning days and and some Stanley Cup stuff some Stanley Cup and Winnipeg stuff cuz God knows he’s brought it back here a couple times and stuff i think they did a really good job stitching that all together and you know they’ve been working on this for a while cuz this has been a done deal for a for a little period here so I think they they knocked it out of the park as always absolutely yeah and we did hear from Jonathan Taves uh not you know his voice there hasn’t been a press conference yet rat Rivera saying I’m still waiting for a presser there there’s not going to be a presser until at least July 1st probably later because again this isn’t official they’ve agreed to terms taves can do all this he can say all of these things and give the Jets his word and sign unofficially but the contract hasn’t actually been signed yet um but here’s what Jonathan T said in the Winnipeg Jets press release when the story came out quote I’m grateful to be making my return to the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets it’s very special to come home and play in front of my family and friends in Manitoba the Jets have been on the rise over the last few seasons and I’m eager to join the group and help however I can and then last night on Instagram I know this was making the rounds on social media as well um he posted a bunch of photos of him as a kid wearing Winnipeg Jets gear um very very awesome post but here’s his post he said “Am I dreaming or is this real life my earest earliest hockey memories are of watching the Jets pre996 at the Winnipeg Arena i remember being glued to my seat in the Upper Duck unable to move an inch because the nose bleeds were savagely steep and high but also because I was immediately mesmerized by the game of hockey never would I have thought that someday I’d skate on the ice down below my dream of reaching the NHL coming full circle to playing in the very city that raised me i’ve never been more proud to be from Winnipeg thank you to everyone for the love and support and to the Jets organization for making another childhood dream come true so I think starting the Jonathan Taves conversation with the excitement around it these posts his comments is a good place to start before we get into the contract and you know maybe some of the negatives around around the the deal itself but uh very cool to see that Instagram post list with all the great photos of him as a child wearing Winnipeg Jets gear yeah it’s that’s pretty special right because especially because in the the prime of Jonathan Taves career the Winnipeg Jets were a pretty brand new team and stuff like that when Jonathan Taves was first drafted the idea of having a dream of playing for your hometown NHL team wasn’t really a thing drafted in 2006 still a ways out from Winnipeg Jets coming back to to Manitoba here and stuff so I think I would guess that Jonathan Taves had that same level of 10-year-old heartbreak that a lot of kids did when you know the Winnipeg Jets left in 96 or 97 or that stretch of time there whatever um and you know the idea of them coming back obviously he was in the heart of a huge push one of the greatest teams that we’ve seen in the 21st century and all these different things but I’m sure it was always Naggie in the back of his head you know when he when the Winnipeg Jets came back in 2011 knowing that he was one of the biggest players in the entire league at that time being like “Wow like I could be a part of this,” whatever sort of thing i know life gets in the way and you know you have your obligations you have all your things and it didn’t make sense in 2011 but there’s no way in the same way that you have the the John Tibaris Toronto Maple Leaf set it’s not it’s always in your head right no matter where you’re from doesn’t mean you’re going to act on it doesn’t mean that it’s the most important thing to you doesn’t mean you don’t have other priorities but like it’s definitely something that would be undeniably cool for for that player and I think it was a really nice post and and you know it’s pretty cool to to see that you know someone speaking so fondly of Winnipeg and talking about how the Wai Jets made them fall in love with hockey because for a lot of us the Winnipeg Jets also made us fall in love with hockey some of you know maybe you and I is a little bit more of the Jets 2.0 but a lot of the people who listen to the show a lot of the people that we know and love Jets 1.0 is what made them fall in love with hockey so it’s it’s really cool that you know this player has so many commonalities with those of us who are going to be now consuming his product in a Winnipeg Jets jersey yeah and the the comment there that I want to ask the chat about because obviously I wasn’t around for the Jets 1.0 era but the the I remember being glued to my seat in the upper deck unable to move an inch because the nose bleeds were savagely steep and high can people confirm i I’ve talked to my parents Bell Center vibes i’ve talked to my parents about this and and they can confirm that the upper deck at the old Winnipeg Arena was uh was dangerous was dangerously steep uh or as uh Taves put it savagely steep savagely steep so um yeah uh it it’s little things like that where you can tell that uh Jonathan Taves grew up here he loves the city um and it’s and it’s pretty awesome that there’s that he’s coming home and potentially finishing his career as a Winnipeg Jet you know one-year deal he’s 37 we don’t know what what holds the future for Jonathan Tace is he going to play another year maybe go back to Chicago uh we don’t know but everyone here saying yes it is true confirmed terrifying it was straight up the arena was nasty steep Doug very steep yeah I My parents uh can confirm that as well for sure um all right let’s get to the contract list fun and all the fun and games are over it’s time to talk money uh Jonathan Tav’s base salary is $2 million and that is what he will count against the cap this season here are his performance bonuses this contract is loaded with performance bonuses so after 20 30tch perform Yeah right yeah playing bonuses let’s let’s put it that way after 20 30 40 50 and 60 regular season games played he will get $550,000 when he clears each of those marks if the Jets make the playoffs and Taves plays 50 games he’ll get another 500,000 if they win the first round second round and third round and Taves plays uh 50% of the games in each round he’ll get $250,000 for each round each time he hits that mark and then if the Jets win the Stanley Cup and Taves plays over half of the Stanley Cup final it’s another $1 million which no one will have any issues uh paying that one out um but listen let’s let’s I’ll just ask you this how much does the performance bonuses and the potential for Jonathan Taves to make up to you know 5.25 or 7 million even does that change your feeling on on Jonathan Taves coming back to the Jets a little bit yeah i mean I think a lot of people are rightfully concerned about the concept that all this money is tied to simply games played and the the joke I was kind of making before to some people is I I’m getting scared thinking about the last stretch of Patrick Marlo when he was trying to reach his milestone and it was like when those sorts of things are on the line people will kind of just trot out whoever in whatever capacity because all they got to do is play in the game and that is not a great feeling but I feel like every year we have the conversation about all right what’s everyone going to try and do to be more like the Florida Panthers cuz they just won the Stanley Cup whatever we’re going to do to be more like the Vegas Golden Knights when they won the Stanley Cup in 2023 whatever this year I feel like part of the storyline of the Florida Panthers cuz a lot of the players are similar players to the group that came last year and a lot of people talked about last year’s team i feel like we’re going to see the resurgence of the oldie here i feel like a lot of people are starting to think more about like if a guy had some dog on him or dog in him like way back and maybe he’s not exactly what he once was the dog doesn’t really go away and if you can find a way to get that dog out without that player having to play the world’s biggest role without that player having to have the expectation of being exactly what they were in their prime you can really utilize them and get that energy out of them that has helped them win championships and so I feel like there is some potential for this to end up being like a moot point discussion i could see six months from now us being like remember when we cared about these performance bonuses jonathan Taves is doing XY Z whatever on this yeah there is a chance there is a chance i am not holding out hope for it let’s be real here like I I everyone knows I’m anti-Age of the oldie i think Brad Marshand is setting us back actually but um I think um it is something that there there is much to be said it’s even you know Cory Perry whatever there are lots of players who like good players are good players not all 37 year olds are created equal i totally get that but like if you want to talk about a player who has the stats to back up being absolutely elite in so many different areas like Jonathan Daves is one of them for sure so I think there’s some potential for this not to be as bad as we think it’s going to be but um I I don’t like how tied they are to just games played i will say that for sure sure sure that that’s fair um I will say the performance bonuses didn’t change much for me uh Jonathan Taves will count $2 million against the cap no matter what this upcoming season and this is what Puck Pedia put out on Twitter taves will use up $2 million on Winnipeg’s cap during the season at the end of the year any bonuses earned so if he hits all of them uh they’re added to the final team cap hit if that brings their cap hit over the $95.5 million cap any amount over is bonus carryover cap charge the following season and let me tell you right now $2 million three million two yeah let me tell you right now as well if the Jets don’t resign Nikolai which is looking less and less likely the the odds that they get over the $95.5 million cap this season is pretty low like if you sign Samber to 8 years 6 million and you sign Valardi to four years 7 and a half and you you know bring in some depth guys you’re like $9 million under the cap roughly was playing around with Puck GM the other day there and then yeah I I I just don’t see how that really plays a factor and then going into next season let’s say the Jets if the Jets bring back Eers then they’ll be pretty close up against the Cap and these uh performance bonuses if they’re met will likely just roll over to next season but if they don’t and if they somehow still roll it over to next season the cap is going up i I I the the the performance bonuses really don’t change much for me especially the the I will outline the one way that I think this could backfire in a way is if the Jets do spend roughly to the cap and in seasons past we we have heard Kevin Chevoff mention performance bonuses as like you know hidden cap it’s like oh you look at Puckedia and says the Jets have $3 million in cap space but um there’s performance bonuses in there and Kevin Shovel off has mentioned that it was Cole Perfett’s entry-level contract where he had performance bonuses that you know maybe prevented him from making a bigger move if we’re at the deadline and you hear Kevin Shovel Deaf go oh well I I didn’t add because if you look at the cap there’s really you know Jonathan Taves performance bonuses to come down the line then that’s an issue if we’re not adding in the shifley helluck window because of performance bonuses then I I agree with the people that are kind of freaking out about the performance bonuses then it’ll become an issue but as we sit here today with Nikolai Elers’s likely to walk I I really just don’t see how this is a problem at at at this moment less I don’t know if you agree with that yeah I I think that’s super fair i think the trade deadline piece is honestly something I hadn’t considered that heavily but the the ethos of it I have in terms of just like what is it going to impede you from doing technically it shouldn’t do all that much just a couple like a million dollars here there whatever depending on what the bonuses end up looking like but yeah you’re you’re 100% correct where that could handicap them a little bit more no pun intended come next spring when obviously this is a group that wants to contend next year especially bringing in this player now like it’s so so so clear that after winning the President’s Trophy they’re hoping to to follow in that Florida Panthers footstep there of of President’s Trophy and then going on to win the real deal but listen like I the Nate Schmidt buyout the Blake Wheeler buyout whatever like a couple million dollars here and there like at the end of the day it shouldn’t be that big of a deal and and the thing is is that these only are going to happen they’re only going to matter we’re only going to care about them if Jonathan Taves is actually playing hockey games and Jonathan Taes is not going to play really bad hockey games for this team i really don’t think he will i just I think that you know there is always a possibility that you know we get to November December and he’s like man I thought I could do this but I can’t got to hang him up whatever sort of thing there there is a chance there always is but like I don’t think Jonathan Davis is going to play 60 games worth of Rasmus Kapari hockey for the Winnipeg Jets i really don’t like I just don’t see it happening so I think that it’s definitely something in Switzerland who is a fourthline center that’s played for the Winnipeg Jets recently that’s like not good um but besides the point I I think that if draw to the Taves plays 60 games for the Winnipeg Jets they’ll uh they’ll they’ll be in in okay shape but I think it’s something that they we can’t forget about it is definitely something to consider and like you said come February next year I think we’re going to maybe circle it a little bit more but um yeah no one cares if you win a Stanley Cup so we’ll see what happens exactly um and I think this is a good transition to go from the contract to maybe the on ice impact because I think this is where the concern lies for me um I think bringing in center depth is a good thing i think having his contract be heavily tied to performance bonuses is a good thing um I’m I’m okay with those when we talk about the Winnipeg Jets next season they will be without Adam Lowry for at least the first month of the season and even when Lowry comes back there’s no guarantees he looks as good as he did last year with um the hip surgery he is having hip surgery he’s out five to six months that’s a major injury major surgery uh and he’ll be coming back from that late October Novemberish um and Jonathan Taves as a center is going to be counted on early in the season to kind of fill maybe not the Adam Lowry role to a te but he’s going to be a middle six center uh I put out the question i’ll put it out to the chat right now before Adam Lowry’s return and I’ll ask you as well Liz before Adam Lowry’s return this season which Winnipeg Jets center has more time on ice per game Vladimov or Jonathan Taves before Adam Lowry’s return i voted on this i said Jonathan Taves i agree and I and and I think it’s because Taves will be in the Lowry role and the Lowry role is like really the 2C if we want to get into that right um maybe I should have phrased it as five on five time on ice because if Nomesov is killing penalties or something and that boost it but I mean which line is getting played more which center is the 2C or Taves um you’re you’re going Taves on that one interesting so let’s talk about the on ice fit though where where do you see Jonathan Taes sliding into the lineup say fully healthy or not for the Winnipeg Jets with Lowry back or not um and what are the Jets hoping for uh from 37year-old Jonathan Taes who hasn’t played in two years yeah I’m fascinated by it because I think you know we we joke about the second line center on the Winnipeg Jets all the time we talk about it all the time we’ve been talking about it for years everyone’s been talking about it it is a topic of discussion that cannot be avoided you always bring it up and I think while I am not in the camp of Jonathan Taves can and should be the second line center of this hockey team only time will tell we’ll see what happens whatever I’m a little bit less focused on the number two and more on the idea of having center options for fits with wingers because that’s something that the Winnipeg Jets haven’t had high-end center options to play with Nikolai Eers Kyle Connor whatever there is Mark Shley Adam Lowry are the constants on the team in that center role and then a rotating cast of people who just aren’t quite up there with a ceiling that has the potential to be a real and I don’t want to say second line center cuz that’s not where I’m trying to go it’s more just like another option because and this is offseason talk that we could talk about for a really long time but like Dave Valardi is not playing center for the Winnipeg Jets right now cole Perfetti is not playing center for the Winnipeg Jets right now guys who could have been centers are not centers for the Winnipeg Jets they’re high-end wingers they have high impact as wingers and that’s totally fine but they’re not in the rolodex of options that you can plug and play guys to find fits in the center role i think the ceiling that Jonathan Taves brings to another option for the center role I think is really really intriguing to me i think that that’s the most interesting part of all this i know that the Winnipeg Jets do run their team in the very traditional third checking line first line whatever situation so you can’t not call in a second line center but I don’t know i I’m not too pessimistic about their ability to be creative if they have to if there’s a good fit with him and other options and other players and stuff like that i I think that this is a very different player being brought in to play center in the middle of this organization than a Vlad Nomesticov then uh I don’t even know like than a Morgan Baron or whatever like it it’s different it’s different and there’s a lot more upside and potential i understand that there’s high risk high reward for sure but like we just haven’t really had the the luxury of having multiple players that the Wingers and the Winnipeg Jets can can play with in those high impact roles so I think that there’s definitely some potential for this to be really interesting yeah yeah I agree and where I sit with the Taves edition as well I’d still love to see another center brought in i I think you would agree with that list you know like I don’t think like you said the 2C issue is not solved uh at least for now uh I know it’s not the take that people want to hear in terms of like what I think about Jonathan Tav’s on ice impact but I got to see it like I got to I got to see a preseason game i’ve got to see a regular you know like none of us really know um cuz I think the thing we need to remember is that like when Jonathan Taves I understand that it was like the co the this the whatever that took about but like this isn’t like a guy who h like a like a Gabe Landiskog for example when Gabe Landiskog was playing the best hockey of his career got hurt out for a long time came back whatever like Jonathan Tabes is not Jonathan Tabes in the last three seasons that he played hockey like so we have we have to temper expectations yeah and got hurt and yeah I agree so yeah it’s it’s it’s not like I said it’s not the answer people want to hear people want to know you know how good is Jonathan Taves going to be but the truth is none of us really know uh the Winnipeg Jets have seen him skate i I I would at least assume that so they know how good he’s looking um but I I’ll tell you right now I think you know listen I think this is a good way to to ask it as well what do you think the best and worst case scenario is for Jonathan Taves one year as a Winnipeg Jet i think like I’ll start with maybe the worst case scenario and that’s that he’s not even an impact fourthline player you know like even if he’s the fourth line center and the fourth line is losing their minutes i think that’s the worst case scenario um a and you know and then he’s still playing I guess and hits all the performance bonuses you know like if he’s a fourthline center that plays 60 games and the Jets fourth line isn’t that good then I guess that would be the worst case scenario or he just can’t you know get back up to speed and and and doesn’t really play all that much i think I guess that would be the worst case scenario but where are you at on you know best and worst case scenario for Jonathan Taves this year i know it’s a it’s you know you can get pretty exaggerated with that kind of question but realistic best and worst case scenario yeah I mean I’ll start with the worst and I think the worst case scenario is that um he he breaks his own heart a little bit and it just it just doesn’t work uh and I think worst case scenario is that performance bonuses aren’t even hit and like listen I get that there are cap implications and that would be negative if he played like you said the 60 games and he was terrible and all that i think like to me the worst case scenario is that he just doesn’t get to play at all and is like “Wow I really thought I could do this and I can’t and it’s heartbreaking.” But the second side of that that coin is that the other worst case scenario is that whether it be the coaches the organization the other players whatever get a little bit too caught up in the story of it the feelood of it whatever and try and make it more than it is and not calling a spade a spade depending on the on ice performance whatever and being like like I think everyone wants this to work so bad I think everyone wants this to work so bad so it’s like I I think the worst problem to be solved here right exactly like yeah Taves Lowry yeah right they they want that they want there to be you know Jonathan Taves product to St patel comes back does this wins the Jets of Stanley Cup this is the story this is the best sport in the world whatever everyone wants that and I think that it’s the whole sunk cost fallacy whatever sort of thing like people will cling to things when they just really want them to work and I’m not going to make any comments about like relationship choices or whatever because that’s how you know when you want something to work you could be like “Oh my gosh.” And kind of ignore all the other stuff and I think it’s going to be hard to do that um so I think that’s my worst case scenario is that there’s a lot more that needs to be considered that they like or that takes precedent over the feel-good story that won’t um but best case scenario is that um listen I think could be here and it’s that Jonathan Taves has been a phenomenal hockey player in his career and I think he brings an element to the lineup that they are missing jonathan Taves is a very complete player jonathan Taves is a very um like cheekily aggressive player and all these different things that I think the Winnipeg Jets could use a little bit of an injection oh we might have lost Liss liz is out at the lake um I’m seeing a circle right now i’ll pick it up with the best and worst case scenario while Liss tries to figure out her Wi-Fi here um or actually I’ll read I’ll read some in chat uh Tyson Ducharm earlier was saying “Oh Liz is back now.” Okay Liz is back we’ve got you but hey you’re going to work from the lake we get it you know some Wi-Fi we had it two weeks ago too when I was at Winnipeg Beach all things considered 30 minutes that’s That’s pretty good we haven’t dropped yet but Okay what was I rambling about best and worst case scenario you were just you were getting into best case scenario um and and the fit in the lineup yeah yeah and the best case scenario is that he brings all the elements that he brought to his Stanley Cup three-time winning team from 2009 to 2016 that stretch there or whatever like there’s a lot of really good upside potential and I think in terms of just like tactical whatever it’s that he brings the best out of a couple of middle six wingers in the Winnipeg Jets whether it’s like a a Cole Bfetti or some new guy that they bring in to try and replace Nicola Eers whether it’s a young gun whether it’s I don’t know like a rejuvenated Nino Netherite or something like that that he brings the best out of the players that he’s playing with too so that not only are you getting the addition of Jonathan Tabes you’re getting the addition of the guys he’s playing with in the whole the Dylan Dloesque not only do you get Dylan Dlo you also get the best of Josh Morrisy that is what I’m hoping to see from Jonathan Taves in a best case scenario i like it i like it i will say also I’m going to agree with like we we can outline the best case scenario and the worst case scenario and it’s and it’s a pretty wide you know spectrum of like oh he’s a great 2C and oh he you know can’t get healthy enough to play hockey you know like that’s pretty but I I I do think that a realistic best case scenario or not best case but a realistic like win for the Winnipeg Jets is what Doug Thoroski here says in the chat where he says he says best case is he can be a solid 3C that plays in the 4C spot plays on the second power play wins over 53% of his faceoffs i don’t know if that’s you know the best case that would be although that would be a win for the Jets if they can get a quality fourthline center that plays on the second power play wins faceoffs defensively responsible brings a little bit of that bite to his game that that you mentioned there Lis um I I think that would be a win i think that would be a win and you know you might look at Jonathan Taves on the fourth line and say “Oh well they’re not getting value for this $7 million you know performance bonus contract that they handed out that’ll roll over to next year anyways.” But uh I do think that if that is right here on June 22nd if that’s what you’re telling me the Winnipeg Jets are going to get out of Jonathan Taves I would say that that’s a win um I I I’d say that that would be that would be a win and anything more than that I’d say is gravy anything less than that uh you get into the concerns that you brought up there Lis where you know people fall for the feelood score and he’s playing too high in the lineup and not winning his minutes and doesn’t look like himself so uh a lot to be um figured out still with Jonathan Taves because like I said it’s not the answer people want but we got to see it first i got to see him on the ice i got to see how he looks got to see him in training camp got to see some fits with some potential wingers on the Winnipeg Jets so um it’s going to be it’s going to be fun having Jonathan Taves at Winnipeg Jets training camp like that’s pretty wild um I know list that uh like a lot of people in Winnipeg you know Jonathan Taves winning Olympic gold medals and Stanley Cups and Con Smice in the early 2010s everyone loved Jonathan Taves i remember standing in line at the Dakota now Jonathan Taves Sportslex when he brought the cup back and then they like cut it off right before we were like maybe six seven minutes away from the front and they you know cut the line off but I’ll never forget that anyways I saw him from far away but anyways uh this is a this is a player that you know has been idolized here in the city of Winnipeg he’s the most decorated player in the city’s history and for him to come home and play here is pretty cool uh and I think that that that should be that should not go without being stated uh and then you get into the on ice concerns the contract concerns that we brought up there but um I think that’s going to wrap up the Jonathan Taves conversation for today list obviously this is a story that we will monitor through training camp through preseason through the regular season how’s Jonathan Taves looking i’m sure there will be a lot of 19 jerseys walking around uh Canada Life Center this upcoming season because Jonathan Taves name on a Winnipeg Jets jersey is crazy to even think about and it’s really happening so um that’s going to be fun that is going to be fun uh list It is the NHL draft this week friday I know already the NHL draft is this week uh the Winnipeg Jets are picking 28th and Hustler asked this question to Maradesh on the show this past week and I’m going to ask it to you and I’m going to ask it to people in the chat what is the percentage chance the Winnipeg Jets select at pick 28 they use their pick they keep it they don’t trade it and they draft at pick 28 with that first rounder what would you put the percentage chance at list my god I should have done my homework and listened to the Mari episode first cuz if I say something like outlandish compared to him I’m not going to feel good about I’m going to go with 60% i think that Okay I was lower i think the percentage chance has gone has gotten higher and higher every day in the last I don’t know couple weeks whatever that they haven’t moved it the closer we get it’s kind of giving like uh Nikolai’s contract extension where it’s like the closer and closer we get to this critical date um the less likely it feels to me the closer and closer we get to the draft the more likely it is that the Winnipeg Jets do make this selection um but that’s why I’m going to go with 60% so it’s I think it’s more likely that they do than that they don’t at this point since they haven’t moved it yet um but that said it’s definitely on the table i know it’s definitely being dangled i know it’s definitely not their number one priority is to to get that pick in um but I’m going to go 60% what did Morat say morat said 75% oh wow okay okay yeah and there are people in chat you know saying 100% um I I do think that with every passing day it gets more likely but at the same time the week before the draft is like the most you know crazy trade time ever like teams want to know what they have going into the draft going into free agency so ah I Okay I was one at the trade deadline i was shocked i’ I’ve told this story many times oh yeah they were on WST i was like jaw was on the floor that they didn’t trade their first round pick like many other people i was I was very very shocked i’ve been telling myself all off seasonason there’s no way they make this first round pick they’re going to trade it for a a center they’re going to trade it for an Eer’s replacement i’m still going to stand by that a little bit i’m going to go maybe 35% um and say I still think that if they get the impression that Nikolai Eers is gone uh or is at least testing the market which all the reports indicate that he’s going to at least go to July 1 and the door is not closed on the Winnipeg Jets but he’s going to free agency um and there’s got to be some kind of you know Eer’s replacement or backup plan um and and I think that your that first round pick is one of the best assets in the organization to do that um so I’m still going to go 35% with each passing day maybe it’ll go up 5% and then when we get to the draft I’ll still call it you know like Okay i have a question on the draft floor yeah yeah i was going to say um say we’re having this conversation on Friday um 30 minutes before the draft starts and what if I did still have their pick what’s your percentage then oh then I’m at nine or 80 85 cuz I could still see a trade like uh not many trades happen on the draft floor i mean it’s a decentralized draft so it’s not really you know like the GMs aren’t on the draft floor anymore um but h I’ll go 85% i still think that in the first round you it it’s late enough in the first round too that like late in the draft you could still trade it for an impact player you know be on the phone during the draft kind of thing um where are you at on that if we’re 30 minutes you think it’s 100% i can’t hear anything that you’re saying okay okay i will I will keep talking then well I’ll I’ll run through the chat because the chat was giving there you know 5050 andrew Leo saying 100% they make the pick um Adam Douglas what would it take to trade up to the Brady Martin range i think obviously pick 28 probably and another you know two one or two highlevel prospects to get up into you know wherever wherever uh in the top 10 or in the you know in the teens range wherever i think it would take it would obviously pick take pick 28 but also something else liz is back welcome back um we’re we’re we’re rolling through the Wi-Fi issues here that’s not a problem um and look I I I I still think you know I I’ll I’ll be doing draft prep this week maybe I’ll have a video on the WST channel um looking at some options for the Winnipeg Jets uh that they could draft i will be you know working under the assumption that they’re going to make that pick but I still think that there is you know I said over 50% chance that I think they move it um especially if they’re getting the the word or the sense that Nikolai Eelers will not be a Winnipeg Jet next year so um I don’t know Lis anything else you want to say going into draft week going into you know free agency week by the way Liz and I will be live on free agency day Canada Day July 1 we will be live we’re not sure what time it won’t be at 9:00 a.m because you know nothing will have happened by then i believe free agency opens at 11:00 central um might be 12:00 but it opens at 11 or 12 central so we’ll be live when free agency is live so we can you know kind of react to you know Nikolai signing with the Minnesota Wild and all of those things so I’m joking uh but yes Liz and I will be live really looking forward to that but any thoughts Lis going into draft week uh before we get to our segments here yeah I think the last thing I will say is that it just if you want to toss a comparison out there and go apples to apples the whole idea of like any other team well not any other team but most other teams in the National Hockey League like what if I just haven’t been in a situation exactly like this in a while where they have their first round pick and they have one of their top three four forwards walking into free agency the Jets have extended a lot of their players they have um traded players all these sorts of things but having this first round pick and having a gaping hole in your top six winger forward whatever position you want in that group even a defenseman if you wanted to go there it’s just not a situation that the Winnipeg Jets are equipped to handle in the same way as other teams where you can’t walk into July 1 and replace that in the same way that other teams can you can replace that player and you will replace that player but you just might need to replace him by spending assets as opposed to signing on the dotted line so I think there is definitely a lot more potential for it to be used as collateral or whatever you want to call it and whether it’s a cornerstone piece and bringing in a guy who has two years left on a deal something like that i know that there’s creativity up Kevin Shave sleeve and what he’s capable of doing so I would not be surprised to see it moved much more than I would expect to see it moved from a team like the Florida Panthers or something like that if they were in the same situation here right um and when you bring up that you know topic in terms of like oh you’ll have to spend assets to get players brings me back to Jonathan Taves where the Jets have never been big free agency players this is probably the biggest signing in their free agency history i mean they signed Paul Stassy in free agency um that one year but um there’s no assets being given up here for Jonathan Taves it’s just a free agent signing it’s center depth it’s you don’t have to go out and acquire it um and spend assets to acquire it i should say you definitely went out and acquired it because you signed a contract but you don’t have to trade a draft pick you don’t have to trade a prospect um and it’s center death that may or may not work out with a heavily tied performance bonus so uh let’s get to our segments list it’s time the chat is fired up we’ve got nearly 200 people here live on a Sunday morning thank you everyone for joining us we really appreciate it it is time for trending up trending down this is the segment where we pick one player who is trending up or down for the Winnipeg Jets over the past week obviously it’s the off season so we’re getting more and more creative with these picks you know we’re picking Bombers players we’re picking Gold Eyes you know players as well seab Bears players the Seab Bears are rolling they’ve won four straight so we’re getting very creative whether trending up trending down uh drop your picks in the comments below and while you are down there make sure you hit the like button let YouTube know we’re putting out some great content here at WST and hit the subscribe notification bell tons of content coming out going into the draft free agency so make sure you are all over it with that subscribe button uh and the notification bell and listen I’ll throw it to you trending up trending down who you got there’s an obvious one uh my trending up pick this week is the Dalton shown Zach Polaris connection i I’ve been on the Dalton Shone hype train i was devastated when he got hurt last year and I was so excited this off seasonason for him to come back and obviously Callos also back and I am so happy that they look I saw any semblance of what I knew they could look like yesterday and I was like perfect I’m so happy so that’s my trending up nice nice i love it uh I’ll go with a Okay I’ll go with a real pick and then I’ll go with a fun pick and I know some people will get angry that I’m making two but my real pick is is Jamal Parker um Bombers we’ll get more into the Bomber game but he had a touchdown he had a pick he’s stepping in for Brandon Alexander as safety this year um and and the defense has looked great in both weeks against two different quarterbacks in DC um so I could I could honestly take a ton of players on that Bombers defense but I’m going to take safety Jamal Parker who had the touchdown to put the Bombers up 17-3 last night and we’ll talk more about the Bomber game in a second here but uh Ken 007 here saying Gus trending up for giving up his 19 my fun not true pick is David Gustoson’s watch collection probably because you know as we know he gave up number 19 he’s probably one Rolex richer as I mentioned on Twitter um so that is that is my fun pick but my real pick is Jamal Parker uh chat is all over it as well uh Jonathan Taves is getting a lot of trending up obviously that was the one I said was obvious and nei neither of us took it it’s the offseason it’s what are we doing um comment saying trending up taves down Appleton um lot of people dropping their picks down below we really appreciate it mason Appleton will never stop catching strays on this show yeah doug saying “Turning up Chevy on getting Taves to sign in Winnipeg.” Um so yeah listen I guess we we got to get to trending down it’s not all sunshine and rainbows here on on a Sunday morning yeah and you know what i’m also going to pick a fan favorite that I feel like got a couple of trending downs this year i’m going to go with Vladescoff for Trading Down just because Jonathan Taves obviously is now a contender in internal competition for that second line center spot adam Lowry is going to be out for a period of time so that’s kind of irrelevant for at least the season opener and the games that come afterwards but come Adam Lowry returning from injury say he’s healthy say he’s playing well say Jonath is playing well blamov I don’t think that um if if the other three centers that you know are those higher impact pieces um are playing to their full capacity or anywhere near it that Vladimasco’s role um is going to be significantly decreased on this team here so we’ll see yep yep i’m I’m with you on that uh my trending down is the likelihood that the Winnipeg Jets trade their first round pick like I said uh like I said I think with every passing day it’s becoming less and less likely obviously but at the same time you know you you acquire a center now and I don’t know how the Jets view Jonathan Taves in their lineup going into next season but one of the things I was you know hoping that the Jets would be looking at for trading their first round pick was to get a second line center and I don’t know how again I don’t know if the Jets view TA as a 2C i don’t know if they view him as a 4C and they still think they need an upgrade at second line center um but I’m going to go with their likelihood of trading the pick for my trending down jeff Cabillis with maybe the best trending up pick on this week’s show the fun I had at the WST Gold Eyes game absolutely uh what a night that was we showed the photo back at the start of the episode uh the big group photo thank you once again to Al Broadick for bringing his camera it was a great idea i was like “Remis did you hire a photographer?” And he was like “No that’s Al Brick.” I was like “Oh that’s that’s great someone should have brought a camera that’s a great idea.” Um yeah shout out to Al he uh he listens every Sunday so Al you’re the best thank you so much that was the best yes thank you for bringing your camera we really appreciate it um all right that was trending up trending down and we’re going to get right back into a segment here um but thank you everyone for joining us let’s let’s hop right into it one burning question the chat is buzzing a lot of people are asking questions throughout the course of the show and this is your chance for us to answer it we’re going to rapidfire as many questions as we can here so drop your one burning question down in the comments below and we are going to like I said rapid fire through these Winnipeg Jets questions try and get to as many as we can so that Liz can enjoy the rest of her lake weekend um and and uh enjoy a beautiful Sunday thank you everyone for joining us once again drop your questions down below and listen I have a one burning question for you did you see I know you didn’t you’re you’re at the lake so you know bomber game maybe it’s on maybe it’s not did you see the Tui Ellie touchdown the big boy touchdown for the Bombers last night were you able to see that or No I may or may not have but for the listeners Connor give us the playbyplay give us the description of what exactly you’re talking about so Tui Ellie is let me get this right he’s he’s 305 pounds i believe he’s like 6’5 yeah 6’4 305 lb lineman lined up at tight end last night in a critical moment for the Bombers i believe it was 20 to6 they’re in the red zone they need points and there he is running into the flat you know maybe just clearing out maybe just pulling defenders and then Zack Cleros throws him the football and you you often you know you see O linemen score touchdowns in the NFL sometimes and they’re just wide open they basket catch it oh my goodness big boy touchdown this was like stuck his hands out grabbed it pulled it into the chest fought through contact survived the ground like this was this was a crazy catch for Tui Ellie in a big moment for the Bombers so that was uh that was really really awesome to see a a thick six as they call it um like an O lineman scoring a touchdown is just incredible uh and the ball game last night was was awesome so um Jay Miller a thing of beauty comment he did a Lawler grab in the end zone yeah it it it was Lawleresque sticking the hands out there pulling it into his chest oh it was awesome um all right the chat is filling up with tons of questions let’s get to it list there are you know questions flowing in here let me let me pick the first one here’s Doug always here on WC Sunday Live we really appreciate it Doug does Valardi sign a bridge deal or a 6×6 can you see Valardi going longterm i’m still on team bridge i’m still on team bridge team bridge okay i think it’s more likely i agree i I’m on Yeah like one to two-year deal i could see like four as well gabe Valardi is 25 years old would bring him to 29 we can cash in big time as a pending UFA uh if he’s able to stay healthy and produce the way that he did this past season I could see a four to five year i can’t see the Jets wanting to go eight years uh for a player with that injury history so like seven or eight years can’t see it maybe but I different i don’t see like we had such a long conversation last year about the Coletti bridge long-term bridge longterm i don’t see either party really wanting to go longterm here just because Gable already knows that if he gets a little bit more under his belt he would make way more on a long-term deal in two years from now than he would right now so I agree i agree with you uh so that’s why I think it’s it’s likelier or a bridge um and maybe the longest you’ll see is 5 years four years uh that’s my take on that one andrew Helo is Patrick Kane a reasonable replacement for Eers no i I say no as well i don’t see it happening and I don’t think it would have the same juice that again similar vibes to the not the same player he once was i I don’t see him coming to play here yeah uh I will say if the Jets somehow get Patrick Kane Alex High Eiffel is going to have to give up number nine because Kane is going to have to wear number nine to to make all of everyone’s old jerseys good again from you know the early Jets days but insane insane did you imagine no uh Alex Eiffel would not give up number nine nor would Patrick Kane wear number nine nor would Patrick Kane want number nine it’s just a joke okay it’s Sunday sunday morning i love it i love it no it’s perfect yeah uh Rat River Rebel Wesley asking in Morat’s most recent article he talked about how there’s a chance need Jared Anderson Dolan Parker Ford Chipperov and or Brad Lambert to make the team next year um oh he Oh here we go do you think any of them will make the team more than one and who so Parker Ford Jenner Anderson Dolan Chberov Lambert which one of those players do you think makes the team list and if more than one who um I’m not feeling good about many of these players chances um listen I don’t really know what the huge like Jared Anderson Dolan was he was good for the end of the season for the Jets there i don’t see him being a long-term impact piece for the Winnipeg Jets i don’t know if I’m fully on the hype train on that one chipperov I still really like I that one’s more I think optimism than anything i just I love the way that player plays i think that there’s a lot of potential for him to fit with some of the players that have more openings on their wing on their line whatever like he’s not the same as a as a Brad Lambert in the sense that I just don’t know if it makes sense for Brad this year i don’t think Brad makes the team i think I circle Chipperov just in terms of you know trying to get some ELC you know cap flexibility with the team and all that sort of stuff whatever i think my most likely answer is Chibberov my second most likely answer is probably Jad and then Parker Ford and then Brad Lambert is honestly last on my list brad is going to play another full year with the Moose unless he pops off and gets called up brad Lambert is starting next season with the Manito Moose i can tell you that for free wow okay i I I don’t know if I’d put Brad Lambert last but I don’t know if I would either that’s a bit aggressive but I I am confident that I No I am I am confident though that he starts the year with the boost i really am yeah I I I’m confident in that as well i will say like role plays a factor here because for Ford Jad and Chipikov to crack the lineup you know the old adage among coaches that they can play on your fourth line but a Brad Lambert if he’s coming up he should he should play in the top six like he should play with skilled players right why would you have Brad Lambert on your fourth line when you could have a Parker Ford who go around and hit guys um but I I think that’s why I’m actually going to go out and say I think and and AJ’s asking this too i think Nikita Chbikov is in the Jets opening night uh lineup who of the Jets prospects makes it to the final roster says AJ i think Nikita Chipov makes the Winnipeg Jets out of training camp i can see it i can see it yeah that’s my I mean he got hurt last year so we’ll have to see and it was pretty major you know lower body injury uh knee injury so we’ll have to see how he looks coming off of that but I liked how he looked in his very short stint last season he’s 22 jets could look for some cap flexibility there uh he can play a bottom six role he can play with a Jonathan Taves on a third line to start the season uh that sort of thing so I I I think Chipov has the highest likelihood of of that group of making it then I would go Jared Anderson Dolan then I would go Brad Lambert then I would go Parker Ford I think in terms of likelihood uh but I I agree i think the other three of those players all start the year with the Manitoba Moose um and Nikita Cherov predicting it right now clip it i think he makes the opening night roster next season um let’s let’s get into some more questions i’ve just been scrolling here because everyone is it winter right now what is going on with this weather yeah Lisa has got the red blanket there uh ready to go do you think the Jets think Taves is their two seed nomes had 38 points last year there was a question earlier on uh here we go from Bryson taves point total over under 39 and a half so Nomesov had 38 points last year h I don’t know i I I list Liss is frozen i don’t know if you can hear me Liss but I’m going to go with H that’s really tough i I I don’t know if he’s going to play on the power play i don’t know if he’s going to you know oh Liss is back there we go we had two for a second there less welcome back i’m currently you know struggling to answer this Taves point total over under 39 and a half i’ll go over slightly i’m thinking he’s going to play on the second power play i’m thinking they’re going to try him at 2C at points he’s going to play with some pretty talented wingers i’ll go over 39 and a half and me at 38 last year i think he could be a slight upgrade over that um Liz I don’t know if you can hear me i can hear the birds chirping me uh Tav’s point total over under 39 and a half liz is frozen so I will keep answering questions uh comment tui Ellie might still be floating on Cloud9 that is that is 100% factual um that was such an incredible catch okay you’re good to go uh I I will ask you this question and then I’ll find another one here um Bryson asked Jonathan Taves point total over under 39 and a half under okay why Why do you say under hello why do you say under sorry i know you can’t hear me at times yeah no I know i I um I I think I’m just not positive like Listen I also I don’t think Jonathan Hast plays the full 82 i just I don’t know i feel like I’m and if Jonathan the Taes played the full 82 I would go over 39 and a half but I think I’m just a little bit too stuck on that i do think that he can produce at that clip so um maybe that’s a bit of an unfair answer and I think you have to answer questions like this under the assumption that everyone’s going to be healthy all the time and because otherwise you drive yourself crazy but so if I were answering it that I think he’s going to be perfectly healthy and be able to play the full 82 I’d say over but uh I don’t think that so yep i’m I I said over but that’s a like really close line uh Bryson I will say yeah so over but barely is my answer because I think he gets power play time i think he the biggest driver of point totals is you know time on ice so I think he plays uh in the games that he you know is healthy enough for and I think he gets over 39 uh another question here which of Appleton/tanv is ressigned neither both if I had to guess right now it’s neither where you at on that list appleton and Taniv are they coming back i’m going to go no on Taniv almost for sure uh and then Apple I’m still wishy-washy on i think the team wants to keep him i think he wants to stay here it’s more just what makes sense and is someone going to offer him like a lot of money that the Win Jets know deep down to their core that they just can’t pay him so uh I’m going to say that Appleton is more likely than Tenn but I actually think I am going to go with no on both of them okay okay i’m also going to go with no um I just think Mason Appleton is going to get a contract where you know here in Winnipeg people are low on Mason Appleton right now um and I think he’s going to get a contract that shocks people in terms of like the number the AEV like you just saw Trent Frederick get eight years at 4 million per or almost 4 million per so I like Mason’s not going to get eight years because he’s 29 but he might get four million you know he might he might get a contract that surprises people um Brandon Tenev I think he might go to like the Leafs i could see the Leafs you know watching that that grit uh on their fourth line play with his brother Chris Tan yeah i I think he’s a Leaf uh and I I I don’t think I thought he was a leaf at the trade deadline i can’t lie to you yeah me too me too uh they went and got Brandon Carlo and and some other you know gritty pieces but I that’s definitely what they were targeting and I thought Brandon Tanv definitely could have gone there but they uh they were able to the Jets were uh acquired him first I guess or or outbid the Toronto Maple Leafs in that sense well they paid a freaking second for him so I mean I I hope they out bid yeah anyways um that was it for one burning question thank you so much for all the great questions in chat today it Uh it’s a lively chat over 200 people because you know the Winnipeg Jets signed Jonathan Taves and if you haven’t heard you’re living under a rock um thank you for joining us we really appreciate it hit the like button while you’re here thanks for all the great questions today in our one burning question segment and Liz I got to talk about the bomber game just a little go next i’ll log out right now if your Wi-Fi is going to go out now is a great time uh there there’s the Wi-Fi there’s a power outage i also I don’t think I told everybody this that that there there’s no power right now that’s why I’m living my best life there you go this got the blanket yeah no heat uh anyways um we got the Manuk Moose minute for our great friends at illegal curve we need like a herabchack bomber minute at the end of these shows because like I like we say all the time this is a hockey show you know we we keep it hockey that’s what we know best we both you know cover the team last year we’re in the scrums and and we’re very involved with the Jets but we do watch the Bombers uh I’m a very bomber fan we dabble um and I got to say I absolutely love this thing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers kind of last year but more so this year where everyone just says they’re an old team because they have Zack Collaros and Zack Claros is an old quarterback but Jeff Hamilton had a great tweet on this last night like you look at their defense and there’s been so much turnover in the past couple of seasons in terms of personnel and they’re getting so much younger and they looked incredible bc scored a garbage time touchdown to make it 27 to4 but make no mistake the Bombers defense got a touchdown and held the BC Lions to like six points for you know the majority of that game and again the the BC got a garbage time touchdown to cut it to 14 with a minute and a half left um mentally I don’t really count that because this defense was flying around you have Jamal Parker with a pick and a touchdown you have Maris Bridges with two interceptions last week and he absolutely crushed a guy in the in the third quarter of last night’s game like you have these players at positions that were question marks coming into the season jamal Parker filling in for Brandon Alexander Maris Bridges filling in for Tyrell Ford as a corner who left uh Kenny Lawler is leaving who’s going to step up there well Carrick Weall is going to have backto-back like 90 yard games with a touchdown um I love seeing you know like the youth movement i think you know you could guess that with like my love for Dylan Samberg and what he did this past year like seeing younger players step into roles after veterans depart and everyone being like “Well this is an issue.” And then the younger player just proves every to everyone that it’s not an issue you’re seeing a lot of that with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers right now um and was yesterday perfect absolutely not i mean the offense looked terrible for about two quarters the second and third quarter if it wasn’t for Jamal Parker’s scoop and score uh that offense was not moving the ball well enough they need Brady Oliver Vivera back matthew Peterson was great uh again yesterday O line maybe wasn’t as good but I don’t know i I’m very you know the Bombers started 0 and4 last year two and six and then they went on a run but I’m very very excited especially because of the defense for the Bombers this year and and comment here saying the Bombers have gotten faster if you are watching the Bombers defense like the speed uh of you know this youth movement is is just so much fun to watch um and yeah the rest of the league hates the Bombers that is for sure tyson Ducharm he says he’s been saying the Bombers are going to be annoyingly good um absolutely uh week one or week two I guess was an absolute blast this one on the road was maybe even more impressive uh I guess Jeremiah Mazzolei was starting and and he’s certainly lost a step in his career but man it was uh that was a fun game last night so that wraps up my Krabchucks bomber hauler as Jeff Cabillis puts it um Liz I know you’re out at the lake you didn’t catch the game last night but um everyone in chat fired up about the Bombers they look great they’re back short week they’re back Thursday at Princess Auto Stadium against the Edmonton Elks um Liz you going to be in attendance for that one liz hello liz is uh Liz can’t hear me that’s okay that’s okay yes Scardy lots of underthrows by Calos agreed doug was saying that as well really didn’t like the the pick late in the second quarter the Bombers forced a turnover and had the ball at the 50 and then he throws up a deep ball to Nick Demsky um and and it was a bad pick but Liz are you going to the Bomber game this week thumbs up you can hear me yeah I can hear you i um I haven’t decided yet actually I um because in my head I thought the NHL draft was on Thursday like I just I didn’t clock it as being the first round on the Friday so I uh I do not have plans to go on Thursday but um I don’t have plans at all because I thought I was going to be watching the NHL draft so um we will see i I love a good Bomber game absolutely and uh when they’re playing the Edmonton Elks there’s a pretty good chance that they’re going to win so I think it’s going to be a fun night at Princess Auto Stadium um and that’s going to do it for this episode of WCC Sunday Live list anything else you want to say from the lake on the Jets on the weekend whatever you want what’s your final word of today’s episode liz can’t hear me again that’s okay wave once if there’s a bear in your yard i love the nodding i love the nodding and the and the silence of like can you hear me i don’t know i’m still going to ask the question this is a live show liz is at the lake she probably doesn’t even know what I’m saying right now but anyways um I’ll just wrap thank you everyone for joining us on WC Sunday live liz from the lake made it work there were times Yeah there were times where she couldn’t hear me and I felt like I was talking to a wall but that’s okay uh that’s how it feels to talk about me to me a lot of the time anyway though no we we appreciate everyone that Liz has blocked Connor liz doing a good job tuning out Connor yeah you do this show for long enough just tune me out eventually i think we finished that pointless anyways um thank you everyone for joining us on 9:00 a.m wc Sunday live we’re here every single Sunday except next Sunday um I’m going to be out Yeah except next Sunday i’m Gm! This is definitely a great home town special interest sports story! My 87 y old Dad who played bison hockey is thrilled & looking forward to seeing Toews on ice.
lol yeah the upper deck was steep and to a little kid "savagely steep" lol
Myself being a teenager at the time not too bad but you still had to be mindful of what your doing 😂
As someone who’s dealt and dealing with the same health issues as JT I can say this comeback is nothing short of a miracle. All the best to him and the Jets!
Fabulous show, Connor and Lyss!! Even with the occasional blips, I deal with this on a regular basis, living out in the "boonies" LOL. Anyway, great news about JT coming home to Winnipeg and my gut tells me if he can't do well, he won't insist on ice time. I'm also hoping that this may help Nikolaj Ehlers decide to stay, especially if he can share a line with a player like Toews, who has a wealth of history in the NHL. Loved the Bomber game last night…also loved to see both of you at the Goldeyes game on Thursday! Props on being there! Have a great two weeks and thanks again for what you guys do for us!!
Twas savagely steep in deed. Was like climbing a ladder to get to ur seats! Toew's signing is truly a great moment and only brings more excitement to this great city!!
Not only were they savagely steep, but you had to look at a monitor to see the score as the jumbotron was obscured.
Thumbs up on the blanket look today
Worst case is he hits a lot of the bonuses but falls off towards the end of the season because of speed of the game and conditioning making him useless going into the playoffs. Best case he fills the hole at 3c while Lowry is gone and gives our fourth line an actual scoring presence.
