and welcome into the ballpark happy to have you with us we bring you Wednesday night baseball on the show it’s the Athletics and the Detroit Tigers and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this just about ready to go and today’s starter Casey Mai well coming into this game hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher so it just shows you how effective he’s been he’s been able to move his pitches around add and subtract change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball we’ll see what he’s got in this one ready to go now the A’s designated hitter Lawrence Butler and that is downstairs and we’re underway first pitch 640 a little bit high maybe down 2 and 0 well second pitch of this game and already getting squeezed a little bit swings and lines a base hit into left field so a man on base to start the inning well when you fall behind in the count you’ve got to come in the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there jacob Wilson the next to hit on the ground bayz over to Torres how about that double play they made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine that’s the one thing about big leaders they make tough plays look simple next up for the A’s Brent Rooker pitch misses and that is ball one two down to and that one fouled off and a 1-1 in for a strike good slider dangerous spot for that slider right there didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again that missed by a lot the countdown now two and two liner base hit so a two out knock keeps the inning alive batting fourth anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there and now it’s going to be Nick Curts and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike rooker off of first with two away tigers check swing no appeal and the count even one and one now this is in the air down the line and that is that the A’s strand one the Tigers coming up no score you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back at Kame Park and towing the slab here JP Sears and Chris he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side colt He leadoff batter as he looks at ball one nope and that’s in for a strike [Music] and a strike in there and a swing and a miss one out came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate could get around on it and catch it out front many times if you do it’s a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they’ve got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put him away did a nice job right there glaver Torres stands in now and watches strike one one out base is empty that’s a strike 0 and2 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate hitter is thinking I don’t want to get beat here this is a good time for something off speed away strike three and that’s two in a row thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we’re seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger carrie Carpenter in the box now as he leaves that one up high the bit behind with that swing it’s strike one first two hitters get punched out on strikes take some notes from the dugout when you get your chance go up there and hit the ball hard somewhere and now two balls in a strike [Applause] in for a strike went with the sweeper two outs base is empty got him strikes out the side to begin the game what a start three up three down for Detroit we played an inning no score top of the second here’s Luis he’s got pop which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field but he can jump you if you make a mistake come on Tigers m back to work how about this one Boo in 2023 Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back played appearances they happened on different days but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940 swings and misses couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees tyler Soderstrom digs in now not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month and ball one Soderstrom getting the start in left batting sixth in today’s lineup a former first round pick in 2020 next offering is in for a strike doubled up on the off speed there we talk about the power fast ball but he’s working a little differently here pitches in the dirt two and one swinging a foul back that’s out of play second inning here no score that one in the dirt full count now the wind to the pitch got him looking that’s a strike out oh just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there i think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle so I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands here’s Gioella ball one low that’s down and in a slider missed that one’s spoiled and the count now two and one i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up and that’s way high and the count is three and one three balls one strike swing in a ball hammered left field back there and it’s out of here into the home bullpen for a homer and just like that they’re out in front it’s one- nothing chris we knew this moment was coming for him soon yep and it finally came we knew it was only a matter of time before he’s going to connect with one just like that just too good of a hitter at the plate knew what pitch he wanted to hit spent on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off two outs nobody on willie MacGyver up next for the A’s just missed [Applause] [Applause] and a swing and a miss this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt yeah that’s too high two down base is empty but one run across here in the top of the second fouled off and they’ll do it again [Applause] that one missed [Applause] fouled off again and it remains three and two right through there got it he didn’t make it easy for him on the mound but they still get the strike out one in the inning and it comes from a rather unlikely power source it’s an early one- nothing lead you’re dialed into the show back here in Detroit bottom half of inning number two now here’s the Tigers cleanup hitter Riley Green let’s go and there’s the strike man i mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was out towards right center that’s well struck this looks like extra bases now he’ll turn for second and he’s got a leadoff double couldn’t have timed it up any better than that got a fast ball middle of the plate jumped all over it absolutely smoked that ball runner in scoring position no outs and next to hit for Detroit Spencer Torqulson misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike no outs runner on second ball two two and0 check swing and he went and it’s two and one two balls one strike ripped on a line and he makes the catch runner tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away batting six right fielder Wel Perez and up next for Detroit Wel Perez this is all about situational hitting it’s crucial in this spot do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] and another ball one away with a runner at third reload well this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind you’re wondering with first base open am I going to get a pitch to hit got to stay back let your hands work stay in the middle of the field let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here i think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield and ball four to a pretty easy walk right there last pitch wasn’t even much to think about batting seven runners in the corners here one away and next up for the Tigers Dylan Dingler [Applause] and a good fast ball to start him off that’s strike one well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning green the runner at third perez over at first so on away late swing fouled off lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third now a pop up on the infield and there’s two away betting eight center fielder Parker Meadows parker Meadows up now for the Tigers in the grand scheme of things this at bat might not feel important because it’s early but it could create a domino effect for things to come control what you can here and have a strong at bat and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter and I know you want to be patient as a hitter but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight and he got one right there put left the bat on his shoulder [Applause] swing now it’ll appeal to third he went around tough call but that ends the inning tigers strand a pair they’re down one- nothing all set for the start of the inning here’s a speed threat denzel Clark the wind and the pitch strike one threw that fast ball right by him slightly elevated that’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see if he continues to climb the ladder bias tosses to first and one away in the top of the third now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler so the lineup flips over now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s Lawrence Butler he’s one for one let off the game with a single that clips the zone go and one and there’s a foul ball swing and a miss struck him out he’s notched four strikeouts now he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious tigers wilson in the box for the second time one ball no strikes next offering is in for a strike and that’s in there at the knees and that one is in the dirt and the count is even two and two that’s a little bit low he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked ground ball to the right side he’ll do it himself the A’s go quietly nothing doing there for the A’s they lead it one- nothing and welcome back to the ballpark and now the veteran third baseman Javier Bayz javier Bayz yeah that’s fouled off come on Elmo that’s outside just missed with that back door breaking ball if he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it’s 1-1 look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat out towards left center wilson on his way over no trouble here puts it away for the out one up one down that’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we all know those can be a little tricky especially if the wind’s swirling around out there back to the top of the Detroit order and here’s the Tiger leadoff man colt Keith struck out swinging leading off the bottom of the first fouled off he was late one down base is empty just missed [Applause] hard grounder into the outfield for a knock so a man aboard now with one away he was all over that one just kept it simple played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there’s just no one there to knock it down [Applause] here comes Glabber Torres struck out swinging his first time and that is in for a strike it’s 0 and one tying run is at first here in the last half of the third step off throw to first keith back in on a dive i think you want to get a one-way lead be very aggressive in the secondary this hitter not a power guy so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap he flips it to second in time and that’s two no runs one hit no errors and no one left on to inning number four it’s the A’s one and the Tigers nothing and we’re back and now the right fielder Brent Rooker brent Rooker fouled off left side you know these athletics doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him he’s only giving up one run but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense fights it off you’ll see another you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today just missing there and the count is one and two and there’s a ball he’s been pitching well but going through this middle of the order second time through we’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made [Applause] foul ball another 2-2 upcoming and downstairs this one popped up foul ground first base side torqulson settles under it and makes the catch one away next up for the A’s Nick Curts fly to left his first time fought off foul swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow right field torres makes the catch and there’s two down now batting second base Luis Urias here’s the second baseman luis Urias struck out on just three pitches last time there’s the strike he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball swinging a ball lifted in the air right field he just missed it perez makes the catch and over so they make short work of him there on now to the bottom of the fourth it’s the A’s one and the Tigers nothing back at Kame Park John Shami and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Carrie Carpenter go Tigers you can do it let’s go Tigers let’s do it Tigers that one finds the zone and that’s strike one that one’s upstairs ball one right through there for a strike up and in and the count now even up he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished got him swinging now five strikeouts for him on the mound here’s Riley Green doubled in his first AB riley Green that’s outside ball one out to short wilson gets it to first and that quickly two away now batting the first baseman Spencer Torqulson spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers 0 for one so far and that one just misses a ball and no strikes a’s leading by a run in there at the knees next offering is down low come on Tigers let’s go that one missed two down nobody on we’re here in the bottom of the fourth they had a foul ball foul ball and it remains a full count he’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up see if he can elevate one i think if he does he’ll get the swing to miss foul ball left side he’ll see another spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another so Torque takes the win tigers are shut down there they still trail one- nothing back here in Detroit ready now for the fifth inning and now Tyler Soderstrom M back to work that misses the zone one and0 and a strike [Applause] not even close there and it’s two and one just missed here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense 3-1 count be ready to turn on a fast ball hit hard but foul off to the left cut on and lifted in the air green makes the grab one down [Applause] now here’s Gio Ursela he’s already homerred in this game detroit in his eighth season 33 years old and he’s a native of Colombia and that’s in there for a strike quickly nothing at two [Applause] that one lined to left field and that’s base hit and they had their first base runner since the second inning willie Macyver up next for the A’s went down on strikes his first time through in the dirt 121 last two pitches have been down in the zone pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play but in this count he’s going to have to give in elevate his pitches and get back into this at bat and another ball a rare three ball count here he’s been throwing strikes all day got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box and ball four to a board he’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he’s going to have to buckle down right here [Applause] swing and a ball lifted left field hauls it in two away [Applause] now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler now the A’s designated hitter Lawrence Butler one for two it’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed and a base hit runner at third puts on the brakes base is now loaded with two away oh just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there nice line drive to the pull side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield now the base is loaded big opportunity for them to break this game open next up for the A’s Jacob Wilson go for two in this one first pitch misses [Applause] and that one fouled off base is loaded two down and we’re in the top of the fifth and that’s a little bit high and a count two and one look in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down two outs that’s hard hit on the line can’t get there and now maybe extra bases urella scores tag and he’s out at the play they limit the damage here they get two runs on three hits no errors and one left last half of the fifth coming up it’s the A’s three and the Tigers nothing and welcome back to the ballpark now it’s the switchhitting outfielder Wel Perez swing and a miss well these Tigers as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone you can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today and that’s hammered into right field that’s a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single everything came together for him nice job of driving that pitch the other way on the line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers and a first pitch fast is in for a strike and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand swang and a miss and that’s strike two no balls two strikes tigers and that one is inside ball one well he missed badly with that O2 fast ball hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch so got to stay ready for it paris aboard here at first with nobody out knocks that one away and we’ll do it again that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was swing at a ball lifted to center field and there’s one down up next for the Tigers center fielder Parker Meadow meadows up now for the Tigers his first at bat was a strikeout [Applause] and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter this guy absolutely flies the defense wants to turn two but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing late swing fouled to the left and now one and two [Applause] you can do it swing and that ball smashed out of line and that’s a fair ball rounds third headed for the plate he’ll score really nice job with two strike hitting in that at bat just a really nice job of running on that pitch and smoking it down the line and there’s no one playing there so once it drops in there you’re on your way to extra bases elmo coming to the dish fried out his first time and that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and one well he’s been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point man second oh that’s just out [Applause] and a breaking ball drops in for a strike one out and a runner at second that’s down and in [Applause] base hit right field coming home here comes the throw but it’s offline he will score and it’s a one-run game well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring at back yeah he’s been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself one down colt Heath now at the plate [Applause] low but in for a strike and that was the sweeper [Applause] that clips the inside corner for a strike with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here still only one out here in the inning [Applause] the shorts stop takes a ball slider misses outside [Applause] still two and two after the foul ball you can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball hit on the ground might be two good feed that’s one over to first you know that looks routine but it hasn’t been so easy for this club defensively this year and you got to make those routine plays behind a pitcher helps him to get more comfortable and move through this ball game glabber Torres up to the plate [Applause] late on that fast ball the Athletics have some bullpen action jacob Lopez the left-hander up and throwing spence also throwing [Applause] now snap throw to first and he’s back in easily that one misses and now it’s even one and one tying run is at first last half of inning number five labber gets a piece one and two and that one missing inside a sharp slider [Applause] and a popup right side foul territory stretches out and holds it in two runs three hits no errors and one left we’re through five it’s the A’s three Tigers two we’re back and they make a change to start the sixth the new pitcher Sawyer Gibson Longig pretty tight game so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is brent Rooker getting ready to hit right fielder Brent Rooker and that is out of play you know these A’s putting together some really good at bats in this game there’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate they really made that opposing starter work in this one grant is pitch count off and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpit that one misses going to count one and two and no they haven’t broken through in a big way in the runs column but with the way they’re grinding out at bats it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming that misses and it’s two and two [Applause] swings through that one it’s a strike out gets talked about a lot but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those high fast balls they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate so very difficult to get the barrel on it and first offering is fouled off base is empty one away and we’re in the top half of the sixth let’s go Tigers and that misses one and one was good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken back as you jog back to the dugout and a swing and a miss down on strikes coming out of the bullpen throwing beans chance to strike out the side wow you talk about the benefits the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat tell you what that’s huge and can change the ball game up for the third time here watches that one miss swinging a ground ball fires across the diamond and it’s a one two three inning a’s go quickly and quietly there but they still lead at 3-2 back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound Jacob Lopez this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters jacob Lopez And now the DH Carrie Carpenter who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts carrie Carpenter and that one upstairs ball one the A’s bullpen has some movement tj McFarland the veteran southpaw is getting ready to come on if needed number 49 the right-hander also getting loose [Applause] this one lifted in the air left field sodestrom makes the grab one away up next for the Tigers left fielder Riley Green the next to hit hey [Applause] and that’s it in for a strike 0 and one 0 and one softly hit to third fires to first on the run pretty nice play there up next for the Tigers first baseman Spencer Torlson next to him for Detroit Spencer Torqulson that one fouled off next offering is in for a strike wow just a beautiful back door slider right there if you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either and plenty of time to first and that is the third out of the inning nothing doing for the offense that time seventh inning coming up it’s the A’s three Tigers two back at Kame Park here’s the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom let’s go Detroit foul ball there pitch misses and it’s one and one activity in the bullpen for Detroit tommy Canley the veteran right-hander appears to be loosening up holton the lefty warming up as well and there’s a ball just off the inside edge in the air center field meadows on the move and out number one on the grab now batting third baseman Gio Urella gioella steps in he launched the solo shot back in the second inning of this one yeah that was big for these guys early on definitely helped them get off onto the right foot fly ball down the line paris sizing this one up no trouble here puts it away for the out and there are two outs now batting catcher Willie Macyver at the play willie Macyver he is struck out and he is walked come on Tiger that’s in there that one’s upstairs ball one two down nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven and that’s off the outside edge and it’s two and one and that’s a little high first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no panic at all by the hitter very patient showing good discipline now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count that’s through there for a strike rips one to right he’s got it and that’ll end the inning and the A’s are gone in order and it remains a 3-2 ball game [Music] and we’re back digging in is the switch in outfielder Wel Perez whistle parade tap foul at the plate ah that hit him and the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning dylan Dingler digs in now dylan if you’re a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in scoring position first pitch doesn’t find the zone all one no strike [Applause] fast for a strike and that’s way high two and one way out front for strike two two balls two strikes that one missing inside this is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game you know that they don’t want to walk you so you’re going to get a pitch to hit you just better not miss it swinging a ball hit out towards left center field he can’t get there it’s a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through it’s just bigger than your own individual stats that ball right there landed in what they call a no man’s land meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily i mean it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop but also for the outfielders trying to come in they got to go a long way as well really important at bat coming up now meadows up to hit for the third time as he lays off inside ball one the lefty the one in there at the knees for a strike one ball one strike to short could be two the flip there’s one to first not in time great effort there if you want to be a great defense you have to deliver consistently it doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw here’s Bayz rbi knock for him last time now a chance to drive in another run well with pretty good speed over there at first base I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down hold the ball a little bit step off just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base dealer and fouled off [Applause] next offering is in for a strike don’t play situation here he’s been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch [Applause] swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field two away up next for the Tigers shortstop Colt Keith colt Keith up now for the Tigers one for three [Applause] [Music] tried to check his swing appeal to third no swing just held it back there two on two outs top of the zone for a called strike well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count and a swing and a miss there one ball two strike that one backed up the middle and it gets through runner from third comes across it’s an RBI single and this game is tied in the seventh such great concentration everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn’t try to do too much [Applause] so the go-ahehead run is into scoring position here’s Glabber Torres 0 for three in this one and the first pitch misses for ball one 10 [Applause] two outs basketball for a strike ball game is still tied they can get out of this inning with a tie game and a count one and two [Applause] good job to fight that one off gets a piece and stays alive [Applause] fouls it off still one and two also really good at bat what I like about this guy his bat stays in the zone for a long time gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches right side hard hit he steps on the bag that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand but they pick up one run on the RBI single we’re tied now at three a piece major League Baseball is on the show welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth tommy Kanley and he’s done a great job keeping the ball on the park this year the numbers stack up with some of the best in the game tommy Kanley and now the center fielder Denzel Clark this guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths just missed activity in the bullpen will Vest appears to be getting loose the one and that one fouled off trying to keep good speed off the bases [Applause] swing and a miss he was late strike two this guy’s sink has so much drop at it it’s almost like a split finger fast ball instead of just weak got him looking and one away well just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast right there and I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything i just think he was flat out frozen did not expect that location in my opinion next is the designated hitter Lawrence Butler and that drops in for a strike [Applause] breaking ball misses down and away they try to get him to go chase the pitch down and away but he wouldn’t bite breaking ball inside two and two liner and this could be trouble and he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run clearly seeing the ball very well in this one a lot of hitters tell themselves line drive over the infielder’s head that’s what I’m trying to do just keep that approach simple and right there it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later up next for Detroit Spencer Torqulson mcfarland 35 years old he joined the team as a free agent just missed you can expect this hitter to be looking for something on a tea he can get up in the air and untie this ball game inside and it’s 2 and 0 the Athletics have some bullpen action tyler Ferguson appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut ball three wel Perez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here up the middle lays out but he can’t squeeze it he makes the throw but it’s not in time and they don’t get the out no problem beating out the infield hit right there good hustle getting down the line that’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly but you can’t really blame the defense in that case two outs runner at first wel Perez now at the plate that’s a strike across the top of the zone 01’s the count [Applause] late swing fouled all [Applause] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two two gone the possible go ahead run at first close one doesn’t get the call and count one and two [Applause] that one missed [Applause] foul ball another two two upcoming ninth pitch of the at bat due next five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head you can see the crowd they’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet and that moves the go-ahead run to scoring position with two a perfect example right there that plate discipline it pays off the deeper he gets into account the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle first and second two outs dylan Dingler will hit next and that’s fouled off go ahead run at second here the bottom half of the eighth inning and that’s outside and that’s ball one [Applause] that’s a little bit low could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone and that’s down and away a’s looking to put the go-ahead run on base [Applause] that one off the mark and now three balls and a strike tyler Soderstrom in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] and this might be trouble he’s in at second with a one out double all over that one right there when you connect and it jumps off your bat like that you’re thinking double at the very least what a great swing on it and man he wasn’t fooled at all now the go-ahehead runs in scoring position so big opportunity for them to jump ahead late making a move at second base and here’s the pinch runner Maxy max Muny go ahead run on base intentional walk coming here and that sets up the double play possibility with one away runners at first and second ur two on one out here’s the third baseman Gio Urchella he’s already homered here in this one [Applause] he swings and misses at the first pitch 0 and one he’s been great in this one eye hand coordination just failed him a little bit right there popped in the air left field brings it in and there are two down just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left and here’s the catcher Willie Macgyver [Applause] first offering misses badly for ball one [Applause] and another ball 20 fought off foul with the go-ahead run standing at second here in the top of the ninth and there’s a ball denzel Clark in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] strike two and there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing the run guy swinging a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out that’s an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth number 49 oh I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team and there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad for the Tigers so digging in Parker Meadows parker Meadows [Applause] at 96 that pitch is in for a strike the A’s bullpen has some movement mason Miller the closer of the staff is throwing [Applause] swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field and there’s one down now batting third baseman Javier Bayz [Applause] got him and now two gone nice doubled up with the slider for that punch out the one before just caught the zone so as a hitter you have to protect right there great pitch to just expand a little bit more he got that chase he was looking for that right there is good pitching so two down now and here is Colt Keith down the middle for a strike it’s 0 and one [Applause] trying to send this to extra innings this one chopped on the ground but foul very dominant with that fast ball inside hitter’s going to be conscious of that now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound [Applause] next offering upstairs [Applause] that’s down and in a slider missed [Applause] on the ground right side he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it nothing across here for the K basketball the letters frozen for strike three it’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen but certainly got away with the location there you know sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you and now Lawrence Butler that one the other way he hauls it in two away it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control [Applause] wilson up to bat next lays off for a ball the shorts stop takes the ball nope that’s a ball three ball i almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit he wants to be challenged brent Rooker in the ODX circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] next offering is in for a strike [Applause] swing and a ball popped in the air and it drops in runner around third here comes the throw he’ll score easily it’s 43 oh that at bat had a lot riding on it certainly pivotal swing of the bat in this ball game i don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it so two down next up for the A’s Brent Rooker and the first pitch fastball is in for a strike [Applause] now this one gets away from the catcher and now a man into scoring position [Applause] that one missed see if you can go upstairs a little bit make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt [Applause] man on second two down and that’ll fall for a base hit wilson headed for the plate now a long throw home not in time he’s safe at the plate and they take a two-run lead back to back base hits you can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone got him to chase on the two strike count but he wasn’t fooled he hit that ball really well here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move will Vest won’t go any further tonight two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher now pitching we’ve got ourselves a pitching change carlos Fernandez and compared to a lot of other relievers strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense should be active we’re under at first with two away nick Curts up next for the A’s [Applause] outside corner there’s the strike [Applause] swing and a liner foul off to the right rooker off of first with two away that one not close and it’s one and two [Applause] swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt dingler down to first with it that completes the strikeout inning over so it’s two runs on two hits no errors and a runner left last chance to even things up we head to the bottom of inning number 10 it’s the A’s five and the Tigers three back now and on the mound the closer Mason Miller and we all know about his slider it’s just filthy man and number 19 runner in scoring position no Glabber Torres up now for the Tigers singi he’s got a history of coming through in the big spots i know I like to talk about I’m not sure whether clutch actually exists but you look at the numbers and this guy always seems to deliver in those spots well I think it’s the ability to assess the situation understanding what the pitcher has what he’s trying to get people out on and then being able to use the entire field tying run at the plate on the ground is short slings it across and they get the leadoff man in the 10 carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases [Applause] there’s the strike now Boo this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win the tying run at the plate that one in triple digits he’s clearly out there throwing pitchers pitches in this situation first base is open he walks him no big deal [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and two with the tying run at the plate and the home team trying to pull it out and that one upstairs ball one he really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone he knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone it gets hit hard by a power guy like this that’s a nice miss right there [Applause] swing and a ball lifted in the air clark makes the grab two down now betting left fielder Riley Green so last chance for the Tigers riley Green getting ready to hit one for four with a double pitch misses ball one [Applause] swing and a miss that one at 101 he can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it that’s just too much velocity hitters got to look down in the zone [Applause] oh he doesn’t get the call two and one that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by in the dirt throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe and on the wild pitch he goes down to third even with a good secondary lead sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher and if you can make it to third base pretty much standing up well that time he seemed to have a pretty good read gets the third safely and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring and that hits the inside corner for a strike two outs with a runner at third swing and a miss and that’s the ball game well this is a big win on the road and going extras into 10 uh so hard to pull those out but I think this team did a great job of keeping the crowd out of the ball game late when you can do that it kind of calms everything down keeps the adrenaline of the opposing team down a bit and you can steal a win and get out of here happy a 53 final score in this one the A’s are victorious for Chris Singleton and our entire crew i’m John Shabi saying so long what the move
