last night he’s back in there at second base and the Red Sox look to salvage the finale and at least get home with a four and five road trip some sort of ominous injury news for the Red Sox today we’ll get into that in a moment but first along with Cooper Borman I’m Will Fleming and Koopa the results the tone of this series has not matched the environment here in LA it’s just been one gut punch loss after another one different mistake made each kind of night and the Red Sox have got to find a way to stop killing themselves in these games no question about it as we get ready for a starter before then but he found so much with them he’s carried it here seems like such a common story here now jiren Duran left-handed hitter the pitch to him is inside duran in the two-hole today roman Anthony gets the afternoon off you understand that against Kikuchi and again Alex Cora with that rise smile on his face reminded everybody Anthony looks good and is going to be really good ran 257 scuffling at the plate takes a strike on the outside corner and it’s one and one jiren five homers he’s shown some signs of life on the West Coast doubled last night right behind his left ear to at least in this at bat this is really nice i mean he gets three four seamers in a row to go down one and two he gets that hanging curveball fights it off fast balls in fights him off just saw the first change up of the at bat and fought it off just has not yet seen the slider which he doesn’t throw a lot to right-hand hitters but other than that of the pitches that Kikuchi actually throws consistently he’s seen and at least fouled off all of them again one and two to Story base is loaded pitch is ripped into left field that’s the base hit durant scores roaming behind him what an at bat for Trevor tworun single now the Red Sox do break through in the first and they lead it two to nothing that’s one of the great at bats of the year in a spot they really needed it and it’ll prompt a visit from Barry Enright he’s getting fast ball after fast ball dropping curveball change up fight it off fight it off and he waited for a fourseamer down and in it was not poorly placed from Kikuchi trevor has just seen enough of him drops the bat head takes it through the left side i mean it’s it’s a number of things it’s like that sigh of relief to drive into it takes seven more pitches onto the pitch count of Kikuchi on a day where their bullpen is not very deep and obviously keeps the rally going for one of your hottest hitters here yeah Sadon is really thinking about delivering a he’s done so much more of in the last month when he’s basically been the Red Sox best hitter and that is get into two strike counts and just battle young he did not always do that and that’s again when he’s right that’s who he is like when he was in the minor leagues coming up that’s who he was a guy that would fight off and get a pitch that he could slug no balls two strikes pitch is fouled off and again that’s another example he misses that pitch two months ago a year ago and he just got a piece you saw it the story the longer you battle the more different pitches you make to throw he’s liable to make a mistake but it is still 0 and2 to Son two runs in first and third with two outs the pitch is up the middle but right at the second base more he’ll step on the bag and last night’s the Red Sox who’s been a real bulldog on the mound i just you know we’ve watched Richard Fitz a lot i’ve seen him a lot obviously of Triple A and this is a guy that like he is a huge competitor not that they all aren’t but he has this white hot in his brain and he’s sprinted out of that first base dugout the second the inning ended yes and that that’s a lot of different things called into one the 1-1 blooper into shallow right field coming on a Brayu and Will on the run is there to make play off the end of the bat one away i mean he does that a lot because he’s just so into these starts but the fact is he’s been away from Major League Baseball for a few weeks and this is the team that got him last time so I think he’s a little extra juice behind this one he was not that he wanted to beat down a triple AAA obviously but he liked that time there’s Christian Moore yesterday’s hero he takes a swing trying to go deep again fast and it’s 0 and one i I liked the way that Fitz walked into it which was hey I’m going to be here for a few weeks or whatever it is as I get stretched out a one fouled off i’m going to use this as time to get better and he did and they worked on the sinker and that change up which was a splitter last year but a change up that last year was outstanding has basically been an unusable pitch at this level and he got the sinker in order he felt like pitch designwise he got the change up a little bit better i don’t think you’re going to see either of those a ton today but he has more weapons than he did the last time he was in a Red Sox uniform 0 and2 to more pitch just fell off the eighth pick in the draft a year ago and you love that in a young pitcher willingness to work on stuff and if you’re being totally fair to Richard injuries to the Red Sox their lack of depth I think forced the Red Sox hand to make a decision they may well regret in rushing him back here is just outside coming off injury he came back here and threw 44 pitches over only three innings his first time back and then that set the stage for the next one rather than going through the normal rehab process the one two foul on the first base side this dude right here is a confident hitter right now moore I mean he’s hitting a buck 94 but wow these are very comfortable swings one and two pitch throws and it hit him on the left hand he’s shaking it off fitz will always try to own that inner half obviously no intent there takes off the padding on the ankle and wrist first major league sinker since he came back that pitch he’s been working on and it just got away it just ran big time that pitch has been awesome over the last few weeks he started last week at TripleA went five scoreless got a ton of you know what a sinker does we got a ton of ground balls on it again when that pitch is in the zone I do think that he is a much better pitcher than he was like three or four weeks ago seriously Red Sox have never won a start that he’s made which is just crazy 0 and nine when he pitches here’s Mike Trout who can’t stop his swing that was a really good sweeper from Fitz good start strike one to Trout two nothing Red Sox one to Trout who launched last time against Fifth and he takes a fast ball outside very close but that has been consistently a ball and it’s one and one time MVP crazy the Angels have won five MVPs in the last 11 seasons and not made the playoffs in any of Here’s the 1-1 that’s a strike on the outside corner it is one and two his 25th game back we were just seeing him in his third or fourth when he was at Fenway big weekend one and two double play depth behind fifths he throws and he misses outside sweeper it is two and two two balls two strikes hit high fly foul down the right field line toward the seats 50 ft in front of the pole he stays two and two i think one of the things with Fitz is and this happened at the big league level is just hasn’t been a lot of swing and miss he can get you here to two strikes he’s not put guys away with punch out stuff you know the way that he he has done at the lower levels two and two pitch is outside and it’s something they’re trying hard to to work on with him he first couple starts this year he did start to miss more bats velocity way up like around 97 and at times 98 moore leading at first see if they send him here three and two he goes the pitch is fouled off i think Moore’s speed combined with what you’re talking about this idea that Richard does have a difficult time getting swing and miss it makes a lot of sense to put the runner in motion and to me when you talk about pitch arsenals that’s why the sinker matters because it gets ground balls which is the second best result behind a strikeout three balls two strikes hit his sky foul again on the first base side it’s amazing in this Angels franchise one of the more youngest in in Major League Baseball and this June Trout passed Tim Salmon for the second most hits in franchise history now he’s been around a long time he’s a great player but still three and two runner goes again the pitch is high ball four that’s not at all what Fitz was looking for can understand it with Trout but when you get two in the first to hit a man and walk one just a continuation of some frustrating outings on the mound well it’s the same thing that Trout did to Walker Beller the other night where he comes up in the first inning and just sees a million pitches that’s a nine pitcher at bat seven of the nine were sliders to Trout two on one out for the dangerous Taylor Ward right-handed hitter looks to second he throws and a highfly foul first base side he’s just not getting enough bite on that slider trout fouled it off many times and Ward does there one this club established in 1961 they’ve had so many different iterations of their name the California Angels the Anaheim Angels the LA Angels anaheim now just LAA 0 and one 2-1 on one out that’s low until I got here I didn’t realize how egregious this name was like that like people from Orange County not only is this not LA they’re offended if you suggest it’s Los Angeles and yet these are the LA Angels it’s true it’s a point of pride for the people here that it’s not LA the kickoff play is on its second and it’s off the glove of Meyer but it will not shoot too far away in fact right Trevor Shorty i mean it’s crazy their owner Arty Moreno millimeter up and that’s the problem if you’re erratic you do not get close calls morris is thinking about one thing right here and it is not a straight take i promise you that two and0 guerrero throws moore takes a pitch outside another close one but Guerrero has thrown seven pitches and none has been a strike that’s his red glove and his left hip double play depth behind him three and0
