the San Jose Sharks have placed longtime veteran defenseman Mark Edward Vlassic on waiverss for purpose of a buyout i’m JD Young of Locked on Sharks and Vassic was entering the last year of his uh deal had one year at $7 million placed on a uh waiverss for uh buyout purposes uh this move I think is more of a opening up a roster spot for the San Jose Sharks um will save them about $2 million in cap space this season and then they’ll have a cap hit of uh 1.6 million next year but uh for the Sharks who are looking to upgrade their defensive core we’ve heard it from Mike Greer i believe this this bit to be honestly shocking move uh is more about opening up a roster spot so we’ll discuss more on your next episode of Locked on Sharks wherever you get podcasts and of course you can watch on YouTube as

End of an Era 😭
Damn! I was kind of expecting them letting Pickles finish out his contract, especially with how much money they need to spend to be cap compliant. I wonder if Grier intends on picking up a higher priced dman from a team looking to make moves but can’t with their cap space? Vegas always likes moving players for just the cap space alone and are interested in Marner… Can’t wait for the next episode!
Does this mean Dickinson is almost a lock for this season? Also if we draft Misa is he NHL ready this year?

Vlasic 44 was a GREAT 🦈. I hope the best for him in the future. the Sharks would be lucky to find another defenseman in the draft like him.
Vlasic was an elite shut down D man but his play has fallen significantly the past 2 years. He was nowhere close to playing at the level of a D man making $7 million a year.
Dosent this make that goal of hitting the cap floor further away

Not shocking. It makes sense. Vlasic may be around the Sharks in the future as a defense coach. This frees up money to go after a top defenseman in free agency. We all know tge Sharks need at least two good veteran defensemen. The rest can be rookies, young defensemen.
I think GMMG did this just to set him free, maybe he can sign on a contender for dirt cheap and get a couple more cracks at the cup before retiring. The $2.5m cap space is practically meaningless to SJ this year, they're not going to be anywhere near the ceiling.
It’s about time
This man has literally seen the rise and fall of this team, and he had one hell of a ride with this franchise. But I can’t say this was unexpected.
They’re going for Marner, aren’t they? I mean, they only need 8 guys for the active roster and they’re about $20 million away from the cap floor and have $44 million total in cap space. I don’t know what their plan is if not Marner. A bunch of overpaid has-beens? Lol.
I love pickles but he has the worst contract in the league for an active player. Doug was too generous with this one. Out of his prime years. I understand why Mike kept this on the books with the team he has but I’m not at all surprised on the timing of this.
