about set now and taking the ball for Detroit Trick Scooble and Singy that may be his name but the strikeout is his game well Boo I can tell you’ve been working on that one but yes you are right this guy strike out for nine over 11 i mean that’s just getting it done there are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup and when you look at what he’s able to do man it’s going to be a fun one to watch today jacob Wilson the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one off the mark there two balls no strikes a swing and a miss and that’s strike one i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up swing and a miss blew it by him at 99 bringing the cheese on that one popped up torres under it pulls it in and there’s one away and time now to check out the A’s lineup in a six spot for them in this one lawrence Butler well right in the middle of this lineup and that’s exactly where he belongs i mean he’s there for a reason boo this guy they know they can rely on him and he’s a force a presence there that you know puts a little trepidation in that opposing pitcher we’ll see what kind of impact he has in this one brent Rooker stands in now and watches strike one ball that’s off the plate one out base is empty swing and a miss and that’s strike two one ball two strike [Applause] that’s out to center field meadows under it hauls it in and there’s two away batting third first baseman number 16 two down base is empty now at the plate Nick Curts good power not great in the OBP department and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike scoo 28 years old and he was a ninthround draft pick back in 2018 that one’s in there and it’s 0 and two two out space is empty next pitch way upstairs got him and good work there as he gets a one two three it’s the A’s nothing Tigers coming up it’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show back here in Detroit and today’s starting pitcher Luis Severino singy he’s kind of a road warrior yeah I definitely say so you know some guys shrink a little bit on the road they’re so used to just you know having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind him but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment so when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark and now the first baseman Colt Heath foul ball there severino kicks steals in the air on the infield curts and there’s one down okay let’s check out the lineup seeing plenty of left-handed bats in this lineup against a righty on the hill yeah they’re looking to ambush and you wonder if it’s going to lead to a big game for him or not certainly it’s a nice boost of confidence to think you can get to that pitcher on the mound with all those lefties in the lineup and with that extra split second they have to react we’ll see how it shakes out here glabber Torres in the box with one away as he takes ball one next offering is in for a strike basketball for a strike twins and misses it’s a strike out the high heat too much on that one just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there not much to it and I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say “How’d I miss that?” But you know what happens carrie Carpenter in the box now no balls in a strike on the ground to third tosses across to first and the Tigers retired one two three tigers fail to make any noise scoreless after one back at Kame Park top of the second and now the catcher comes up to him austin wins scoo back to work check swing and he went and that is strike one [Applause] and that’s outside james Kingsley our played umpire consistent as you mentioned and maybe a little generous on the edges swanging a ball drilled center field meadows settles underneath it and there’s one down batting fifth third baseman Maxy next up for the A’s Max that pitch in for a strike it’s 0 and one looks like he’s just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a pitch that he turns on next offering way upstairs swings through that one benny really sells the change up with that arm action [Applause] up the middle dives and he can’t hang on no throw he’s in safely and now there’s a runner at first batty six right fielder Lawrence Butler lawrence Butler up next for the A’s runner on the go pitch in for a strike throw to second and he’s out usually when you see a team try to steal a base in the early innings it tells you they want to be aggressive on offense try to force the defense to make plays and slow him down that’s exactly what they did right there so we’ll see if that caught stealing changes the offensive approach moving forward next offering is fouled back no score here in the second foul ball still 0 and two ball one there that’s off the mark and the count’s even at two just misses with that one really good take especially with two strikes swinging a foul ball at the plate they’ll do it again good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat gets a piece there we’ll do it again fouls it back with two strikes outside and that is ball four that’s a great at bat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk exactly two out walks are never good especially when you’re trying to get back into that dugout but he’s still in a good spot he’s just riley Green first pitch and he just misses was a good pitch there billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it you get a broken back hearing a lot of that one in this one that one the other way and foul ball that’s ball two and now the count filled up three and two i think he wanted that call on the upper part of the zone but just didn’t get it now he’s just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed so he can adjust his sights just a little bit foul we’ll see another payoff pitch eighth pitch of the at coming up keeps the atbat going with a foul ball here we go Tigers the 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four and that’s their first base runner of the game when you go that deep into a bat the hitter usually comes out parker Middle digs in now boo this guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder gold glove caliber type out there offensively he can do some things but you know also has some streakiness as well i think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out you know he saves runs in the outfield so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish and time leadoff man retired here in the third denzel Clark next up for the A’s Denzel Clark we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offensive aside for just a second Chris it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most swinging a foul back that’s out of play well he gets to balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away that one hit to right fair ball and it gets by him round second digging for third now batting shorts stop Jacob Wilson now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s jacob Wilson 0 for one with a fly out off the plate inside and that is ball one top of the third no score on the ground to the left and that’s just foul base hit and a run comes in picks himself up an RBI solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he met it out front for the line drive knock one gone runner at first now it’s the DH brent Rooker 0 for one with a fly out to center first pitch just misses [Applause] fast ball for a strike i think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast ball go by [Applause] the one-1 is fouled off wilson leads off first with one away that one just misses and that’s ball two didn’t get the result he wanted but that’s a nice pitch right there that’s hard hit on the line pulls it down and he makes the catch it is two down not fooled at all right there he was clearly all over it but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone you’re looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knock sometimes nick Curts up next for the A’s nothing as we go to the last of the third and here’s the catcher Dylan Dingler that one a little bit high ball one right through there for a strike one and one and that one popped to short wilson in position one up one down betting ninth shortstop Trey Sweeney so up next Trey Sweeney on the corner for a strike just missed [Applause] so now one and two swing and a miss struck him out couldn’t catch up to the heater well that’s a blue zone right there or the cold zone on the hitting chart just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone and a really good job of the pitcher executing try to go there as often as you can the numbers are in your favor now Colt Keith ball one no strikes ball one no strikes two down nobody on late with the swing there i think he was sitting off speed there i got a ball one strike fouls one off out of play back to our left knocks that one away and we’ll do it again chases the change up in the dirt in time so the drop third strike doesn’t he earned that walk after a long at bat well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first go Tigers butler batting with one down takes a strike oh one’s the count looked like it was a little bit up one ball one strike just missed man at first one away that one misses three and one now oh they have had a hard time scoring in this one the pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking make sure that they don’t get any confidence [Applause] foul ball and it remains a full count and a foul ball he stays alive swing and a miss and he struck him out he battled for a long time but it finishes with a strike out you can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one he’s really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled luis Rias up next for the A’s grounded out his first time up this to third over to Torres and that is the inning back at Kame Park bottom of the fourth stepping in Glabber Torres glber Torres [Applause] and the first offering a fast ball for a strike man i mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was next pitch is outside [Applause] next offering is fouled back on the ground to third oh can’t pick it up cleanly now batting designated hitter Carrie Carpenter carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers 0 for one he grounded out in his first at bat [Applause] and that’s fouled off [Applause] severino that’s a bullet but it goes foul [Applause] that one missed i don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count just tried to overthrow that pitch the Tigers hitless so far in the game that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was next offering misses and it’s two and two two balls two strikes just off the outside part of the plate on this count runner not known for his speed but I think you got to put him in motion try to avoid a double play here Bo got him looking he’s notched four strikeouts now oh just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there i think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle so I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands here’s Riley Green he popped out his first time outside that’s ball one late swing foul to the left instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended tied him up a little bit slightly up slightly in and that one way outside two and one torres the runner at first with one gone in the inning popped up to the left into foul ground makes the grab and there’s two out now batting the right fielder Wel Perez winsel Perez up now for the Tigers 0 for one so far and there’s the strike pulling one that one ripped and a base hit and now first and second with two outs well I’m not saying that play was easy but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump those small moments can be costly that makes history first and second two outs mckinstry will hit next walked his first time swearing and a miss that’s strike one one’s the count tying run and scoring position we’re here in the bottom of the fourth and that one is popped in the air shallow center it’s going to fall for a hit around from second is the tying run and it’s an RBI single it’s 1-1 well done drives in the run so impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside instead good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock now a chance for Parker Meadows that one outside and it’s one and0 two on two outs a pitch in for a strike and it’s one and one yeah one ball one strike [Applause] light drive he’s got it and that’ll end the inning but they pick up one run on the RBI single all even now at 1-1 you’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark at the plate tyler Sodro sodro scoo back to work swinging a foul straight back you know these athletics need to bring up the quality of their at bats and specifically their swings they’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for them so far zero extra base hits in the game so it’s been tough for them to get anything going sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there denzel Clark getting ready to hit first offering misses badly for ball one late swing fouled all [Applause] the 1-1 on the ground right side throw to first in time well he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind it with another ground ball good execution and now the short stop Jacob Wilson sing you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays in there and it’s 0 and one and because of that big power arm he’s able to play a little bit deeper make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that’s impressive two down nobody on and we’re in the top of the fifth fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two out to short sweeney zips it across that’s out number three and one two three go the A’s score remains tied 1-1 we head to the bottom of the fifth here’s the catcher Dylan Dingler dylan Dingler and that one upstairs well these Tigers just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one they really haven’t worked many deep counts or long at bats and that’s fine if you’re having a lot of success but at this point I think it’s time to make an adjustment the 1-1 is fouled off fly ball to right butler under it makes the grab one down now batting shorts stop Trey and next up for the Tigers Trey Sweeney delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball all tied up last half of inning number five inside almost got him two two now up the middle and he can’t come up with it safe at first no play we’ll see how they score this well it looked like a pretty routine play just couldn’t get it to stick in the glove as he gets tagged with the error should have been two outs in the inning but now they have to work around it and get two more so the batting order turns over and here’s the first baseman Colt Keith 0 for two in this one downing ball here rolls foul [Applause] and the pitch is outside ball one [Applause] sweeney leads off first with one away with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here in the dirt but kept close tag save at second and good hustle to move up that’s a wild pitch well that right there erases the chance at the inning ending double play so good job on the bases to move up on the wild pitch changes the outlook of the inning in a pretty big way helpful gabber Torres in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] and ball four to a boy well they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second they’ve set up a double play opportunity so not a terrible result here is Glaver Torres definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an inning ending double play yeah the first offering is not close maybe losing command a little bit after the walk next pitch not even close [Applause] two on one out line drive base hit sweeney Brown’s third headed for the plate throw is offline and he scores and a 2-1 ball game now well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring at bat yeah he’s been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself first and second one out and now the DH Carrie Carpenter and delivers outside could use a ground ball here something in the infield runner at first base get two get out of this runners at first and second with one gone he’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in [Applause] that one is absolutely bel and it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases one runs in the relay the tag and he’s out the base runner did a great job of making that a close play at the plate with an excellent slide made the catcher work to get out there and put down the tag the throw was on the money and that’s what made the difference big time play to cut down a run here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot luis Severino done for the day and they trail as he exits but he kept them close a new arm will be on the mound after the break now pitching for Jacob Lopez taking over on the mound well he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra so this is an important outing for him to get on the right track so here’s the cleanup hitter Riley Green and the first pitch misses for ball one 10 two outs and one in scoring position [Applause] that one misses two and0 not showing great command so far in this at bat 20 count he’s got to execute here or this could get ugly on the ground muny inning over and it could have been worse but two runs for him and they jump ahead five innings complete it’s the Tigers three and the A’s won top of the sixth inning down to number two hitter Brent Rooker brent Rooker and that’s too high next offering is in for a strike pretty rare location right there right down the middle this guy paints the edges i’m not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter [Music] ball two two balls one strike line drive come on nothing you can do about those as a hitter even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy and now the first baseman Nick Curts hit hard but foul off to the left base is empty one away and we’re in the top half of the sixth that misses the zone and it’s sequence right there i’m telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now catcher Austin wins austin wins digs in now that one in there across the letters that one missing inside you know this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much everybody needs just take a deep breath relax and let it naturally happen two outs foul ball goes down looking three up three eye right there swang and a ball lifted in the air butler makes the grab one away now batting third baseman Zack now the third base Zack McKinstry the walk and he’s also singled in the air left field down the line throws to second not going to get him he’s in there well clearly he was ready to hit right there just a blue pit behind third right there and that’s a really tough play for a third base or shortstop to get to and the same for the left fielder so he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there one out runner at second parker Meadows up now for the Tigers misses off the inside ball one runner at second here one gone two and0 [Applause] the other way fair ball coming home he’ll score well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn’t get jumpy didn’t try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit man at second with one away now here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler here’s a swing to drive left field and he knew it they must be going crazy in the dugout his ninth homer of the year and they tack on to their lead it’s 6-1 he only needed one swing to square it up not wasting any time in that bat boo aggressive and it paid off [Applause] looks like this guy was looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fast so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ballpark manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change jacob Lopez done for third baseman Maxy and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike tigers bullpen with some action carlos Hernandez getting loose for AJ Hinch gibson Long getting loose as well and that one fouled off and now one and two fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts i’m not really sure why he let that one go by i mean out of the hand it had a lot of the strike zone sure it had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate but with two strikes you got to be ready to swing it there and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands so digging in Lawrence Butler and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter i really like how he’s been attacking hitters early in at bats he’s thrown strikes on the first pitch to over 70% of the guys he’s faced in this one up the middle on the run sends it over to first and he gets him nicely done second base Luis Urias two outs space is empty next up for the A’s Luis Rias out to short sweeney the A’s go quietly nothing doing there for the A’s they trail it 6-1 back here in Detroit now it’s the DH Carrie Carpenter carrie Carpenter popped up hauls it in for the Owl now batting left fielder and next will be the that change up way out in front better to pull it than to get jammed on something off speed like that struck him out without a swing that was pretty nasty now batting the right two down base is empty split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay and up next for Detroit Zack McKinstry [Applause] ball one there hit in the air center field clark moving under this one and that’s the third out tigers leave one they still lead it though 6-1 now pitching welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth carlos Hernandez and you know both guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game so we’ll see how sharp it is your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well soder up for the third time and takes ball one good purpose pitch right there trying to tease him get him to raise his sights pop something up and make it an easy out the next offering misses now 2 and 0 that one ripped right center field that’s back there and that one’s gone he flexes his power with that swing home run number 15 on the year and they cut into the deficit it’s 62 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat he’s that confident that home run was a no doubter as we dive into the numbers with Snackcast crushed Boo just absolutely crushed 112 miles per hour on the exit VO and like you said no doubt about that one plenty of launch angle to give it that backspin as well and that carried way over the wall denzel Clark up next for the A’s first pitch misses always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start Dingler up now for the Tigers he’s already homered in this game and it’s fouled away base is empty one away here bottom half of the eighth inning and that is out of play cuts and misses it’s a strikeout oh really expanded the zone right there with that fast ball off the outside corner of the plate got him to chase it that’s a tough one to lay off of because it starts close to you and just continues to run away from you in that batter’s box so it’s a really nice pitch with two strikes sweeney the next to hit takes ball one a short stop takes a ball [Applause] next pitch downstairs counts full three and two there’s a swing and a drive that’s down one hops off the wall and that’s a two out double so a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win so runner at second two down colt Keith up now for the Tigers there’s the strike let’s do it Tigers and the next pitch is way outside and a foul ball the one two that’s ball two squirts away a little bit sweeney on it second with two down all right let’s go and a swing and a miss and that’s that no runs one hit no errors and a man left through eight full Tigers six and the A’s three now pitching welcome back and here comes the closer Will save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy time to lock this one down and get out of here with a W so digging in Lawrence Butler right fielder Lawrence Butler misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike best a very difficult guy to get hits off of it’s really rare for teams to string stuff together against him he wins every pitch and for a hitter sometimes a victory is just fouling off one of his pitches groud ball right side and it finds its way through for a hit had a good start to the inning unless he beats himself somehow can’t find it doesn’t have the control command that day you can pretty much forget about it next up for the A’s Luis Rias [Applause] fought off foul as a hitter there’s even more pressure to take advantage of any mistake right yeah and you’re hoping that you know somehow someway whether it’s a hit by pitch a walk something bad happens because outside of that stuff is just too good to fail and he’s got deception in his delivery and it’s not that he’s trying to deceive the hitters he just has this natural flow that makes it hard for hitters to pick the ball up it gets on them a little bit quicker than they anticipate even though they know what the velocity numbers are [Applause] and a one two fouled off and they’ll do it again and that’s will just win it’s a strike out so Tyler Sodro he’s already homerred here in this one [Applause] that just misses and that’s ball one back door breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire didn’t give him the call i bet you if he throws it again hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it the 1-1 is fouled off [Applause] and that one popped in the air left field green sizing this one up they got it for out number two the Athletics down to their last out for the A’s [Applause] he swings and fouls one off [Applause] two outs lifted to left and that should do it and that is the ball game well this was a tightly played game got a little of everything some timely hitting runs on the board key pitching and defense in certain spots definitely a
