But we start this morning with a little bit of breaking news out of Berea. The Browns have officially cut Ogbo Ocarano and signed kicker Andre Schmidt. Ocarano had signed a 3 year right. As I said, Schmidt, but Ocarono had signed a 3 year, $19 million contract with the Browns in the 2023 offseason. We’re all hyped about the signing at the time. We thought he had big time pass rush potential, but he ends his Browns career with 30 games played and only 7.5 sacks. Bo, were you surprised at the move this morning by the Browns to cut ties with Agbo? I was very surprised and not that he’s been a great player. I mean, he’s just been a rotational player. But he’s been OK. I mean it’s not like they have a million great defensive. It’s just a weird timing on a cut. Like usually when you pick up a random, first of all, they’re signing a kicker, 2 years ago they paid their kicker after he had his one great career year. Last year he stunk. But they, you know, they’re on the hook. I don’t know how much money with him going forward. What’s the kickin Hopkins Brad, I was gonna say Brad Johnson, then I was gonna say Brad Hopkins, and then you straightened me out of Dustin Hopkins. Wasn’t there a Brad Hopkins at one point? Was there another kick? No, I know Brad Johnson was a quarter. — Brad
— Johnson was a quarterback, yeah, uh, but anyway, so yes, I was surprised, guys, and, uh, because usually when you sign a random kicker in July, you cut some guy on the bottom of the roster that we never heard of, some undrafted free agent or something like that. So obviously Agbo Okurawa, who I guess I thought was definitely gonna be on the team, was far from that. So I’m not saying it’s a big deal, but He was a priority free agent at one point and he was a guy they used a lot and now he’s gone a random cut in July or June. He’s got uh a dead cap hit, I think right around 2 million. He had no guaranteed money on his deal and he had a a roster bonus coming up. — I forget when now August I think was a roster bonus
— August and it was for 3.5 and he would have made 6 million this year. So they saved that money. Uh, and they only carry a dead cap hit of I think it’s just over 1, somewhere between 1 and 2 million. I looked at it like this, uh, when I saw him get cut, I thought to myself, well, he’s 30. You, when you think about the Browns, they, their philosophy and their strategies, they always wanna stay young. They wanna, they like the younger guys. Yeah, but sometimes you got some veteran players that’s really good and he has not been what they thought he would be. Um, you think about Isaiah McGuire, Alex Wright, um, those guys have had a hard time staying healthy though, true, but so is he, so he played 30 games in 2 years. — He played with a
— torn peck, — didn’t
— he? He’s tough, yeah, but he didn’t. I mean, that means he only missed 4 games in 2 years. — But
— I think, I think that they, they must. Obviously look at those younger guys and say we want to give those guys more opportunities it’s kind of like the it’s like the Nick Chu thing. I guess the only thing to me is the timing. Why, — why I
— don’t understand the timing. Maybe a big deal. I put this on Twitter and this is due to the timing. I’m not 100% how accurate. This is Jason Tys you guys may know, boy, you may know, but you only have so many post June 1 cuts, and they designated Tomlinson and Thornhill as their two post June 1 cuts. So maybe that’s why he was hovering around until now to be released. No, I know, but you They cut Tom Tomlinson and Thornhill beforehand to open up that cap space to use even though they weren’t technically released till June 1st. — They had bigger caps you’re
— saying there’s only a few preemptive June 1st, but still, still they’re still gonna cut them three weeks ago. That’s fair. I’m just. I’m just I think, I think you go through OTAs, you go through mini camp, you might maybe you see some young guy, maybe he’s showing some flashes and it’s like, oh well why do we need to, we could save ourselves some money here and we just cut him. It kind of goes back to what I’ve been saying. This is an experiment year. It’s a transition year. What good is it keeping a 30 year old Okono if you’re not gonna extend them beyond next year? Play the young kids this year, and see what you got. Sort of like the quarterbacks, throw them out with that. Oh, they will, they will just because they don’t do it week one is a little different. Uh edge rusher and quarterback, a little bit different spot. Yeah, and as far as the kicker goes, I struggled, so you need to put some competition. — I can’t
— remember his guarantee. Yeah, what’s his? Do you have that info, Mike? Like what’s Hopkins Hopkins this guy, this, this Schmidt guy kicked in the league last year, didn’t he? I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know. I don’t keep up on kickers. You don’t, huh? No. According to the Browns press release, Andre Schmidt. He is officially in his first season out of Syracuse, originally signed to the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent part of the 2024 season on the Browns practice squad and played for the St. Louis Battle Hawks in the UFL this past season. — That’s why I remember him from the
— Battlehawks, right? Well, we’ve been he was on the Browns practice squad, — so must have stuck with
— me and Dustin Hopkins signed a three year $16 million deal with $8.4 million guaranteed. But what’s he got left? 2 years on that? Yeah, he signed a 3 year deal in 24. He’s got two years left after this, or this year and then one more year. — So
— about 5.5 million guaranteed. — How would you guarantee to
— a kicker? I just don’t, unless it’s, you know, the one or two best and not just best for one year. The only time I would ever guarantee money to a kicker is if he’s been great for a long time. I, I still believe stupid. The worst kicking story is the kid that got drafted in the 2nd round out of Florida State by Tampa Bay Roma. No, Roberto, I can’t believe they did that. — He was horrible
— in the league. The Raiders, I know he was great. He went first round, but he was worth it though. No, he wasn’t. — He’s a 60 yard field and
— that’s back when that was unheard of. I was at the Browns game where this man kicked the longest field. I don’t care. What do you mean you don’t care. You never kicking kicker in the first round. So dumbest thing kickers lives don’t matter. It’s not just that kickers’ lives don’t matter. It’s stupid to draft the court, by the way, Martin uh, uh, when I was in Florida, uh, winters ago, Martin Gramatica’s brother. Who also kicked, yeah, who also kicked, — owned the air
— they played for Tampa Bay too. — Grammatica wasn’t he a kicker for
— Tampa Bay? Yeah, he was. Yeah, yeah, and he was a high draft pick too, like 3rd, 2nd or 3rd round. — So that
— will never happen again. — I’m so was
— what’s his name, the Buckeye Mike Nugent. Was it, was it 2nd round pick? No. Mike Nugent. — I was about to say
— Mike Nugent, huh? — Look up what round Mike Nugent was drafted by the
— Jets. I’ll look up Nugent in one second with the departure of Ag that leaves the Browns defensive end depth chart something like this. Obviously locked into one of those spots. Then you have Isaiah McGuire, Alex Wright, and Joe Tyronhoka, JTS, the guy they signed from the Bucks this summer as the three guys battling for that opposite defensive end spot. And then Cam Thomas would be most likely the 5th — defensive end right now if you’re going off
— the de No, — nobody proven at the end of JTS
— is a former first round pick, so what’s he done? Nothing but that’s it’s the fact that he’s a talent. — He’s
— a Mike Nugent was a 2nd round pick. — Mike
— Nugri was a 2nd round pick. I told you guys will it ever happen? Will it happen again? No. I covered him too. I should know that. Yeah, — he
— played with Dustin. — You don’t
— think you don’t think a kicker ever will go in the 2nd round again? No, no chance. anymore. Well, the first round thing never will happen, but the second round, — that’s
— insane. It is, but if Jannikowski goes to the Hall of Fame, and even though he didn’t, I’m, I’m with, no, — but I said if he goes to the
— Hall of Fame, but he’s not. — Why
— not? Why not go to the Hall of Fame. He wasn’t. Man at all. No, he was very good, but there’s like 4 kickers in the Hall of Fame. Well, soon to be. I don’t think his field goal percentage was, was like legendary. It was good. — He’s a
— bar brawler, right? He was. He’s in bar fights, wasn’t he? Yeah, — he’s a fat
— ass. Dude, come on now. I know he’s a great kicker, but first round if he helps your team win, was hit 60 he helped them win. They didn’t win. Did they win anything? No, they did not, — but that’s not his
— fault. Well, he made one all pro team, one all. It’s 18 years. He told you he wasn’t a Hall of Famer. Very good kicker. What’s his longest field goal? They got that on there. Yeah, his longest ever. was 63 yards. Who was it? Do they say that? I don’t know who it was but it was in 2011, the year he made his all-pro team, so.

The Cleveland Browns have signed K Andre Szmyt (pronounced Schmidt) and terminated the contract of DE Ogbo Okoronkwo.

Szmyt (6-0, 200) is officially in his first NFL season out of Syracuse. Originally signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2023, Szmyt spent part of the 2024 season on the Browns’ practice squad and was a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.

Okoronkwo joined the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in 2023. He appeared in 30 games the past two seasons and recorded 52 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. | https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/browns-sign-k-andre-szmyt

  1. 3:51 They might have needed to act now to get the PK. Cutting Ogbo tells us that the Browns believe in Wright, McGuire, and Tryon. This also gives him more time to latch on with another team before training camp.

  2. 4:50 Comparing the Browns DEs' situation to rookie QBs is nonsense. They already know what they have in Alex Wright, Isaiah McGuire, and Joe Tryon. They've played in 37, 20, and 66 NFL games respectively.

  3. They should've released Pickett. He's in the option year of his rookie contract @ $2.6 million. If he balls out that option is for $22 million. When the Browns traded DTH and a 5th round pick to get him, the Browns said they would consider picking up his option after the season. But the Browns have already changed their minds and have informed Pickett that they will not in fact be picking up his option. When did this happen? Right after rookie minicamp. Read the tea leaves. If I'm Pickett, I would want to get outta Cleveland asap because there is no future for me there.

  4. I love these FAT F¥€ks who have so much to say!!!!

  5. I have been a Browns fan for most of my life. This ownership and front office of this team don’t know what they’re doing. This team is fu****up. I can’t take it anymore.

  6. What the hell is wrong with the Damn Browns ever Damn time they take two steps forward it's always ten steps backwards this team doesn't have consistently the management sucks under Eric Berry on wonder why we can't go further as a team trying to win.💯😎🤷🤦🤷🤦😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
