hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show it’s the Arizona Diamondbacks going up against the Chicago White Sox first pitch coming at you right after the break first pitch moments away and pitching in this game Adrien Howser singing he’s been outstanding and should be fun to watch well when you have a guy that can limit the opponent to very little run production you have a great chance to win a ball game when he takes the mount he’s just having an outstanding season so far you hope he can maintain it because if he can he’ll be in a nice conversation at the end of the year and the batter will be the shorts stop peraldo Peromo that one way outside and this one is off and running out into left center for a line drive base hit so a man on base to start the inning batting second stepping in Ilaro Vargas let’s go Adrian to the right side to second there’s one a 361 double play the 361 double play in my opinion one of the toughest plays to make you’ve got a pitcher covering first and the middle infielder throwing to a moving target everything has to be perfect and right there they made it look pretty easy next is the designated hitter Pav Smith just off the outside edge and that’s ball one fought off foul two outs base is empty come on Adrian inside and it’s two and one [Music] slashed foul down the right side that’ll hook off into the seats rip towards third rojas throws on to first and that will end the inning nothing doing for Arizona now it’s the White Socks turn it’s a scoreless ball game back after this on the show back at right field and on the hill the big righty Brandon F and Chris he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side chase Maid the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one [Music] out in front and foul to the left side and he’ll play it on a bounce now it’s Andrew Benendi to hit leftielder Andrew Benendi first off and it just misses and that’s outside my draw on at first nobody out andrew ground ball right side to second pulls him off the bag a potential double play ball hit to first is probably the toughest one to execute cleanly that first baseman he’s got a very tough throwing lane to deal with because of the runner headed to second base and a lot of times guys try to throw over or around the runner which can really mess up a throw like that still definitely an error though so now it’s the White Socks DH miguel Vargas top of the zone for a called strike [Applause] and that one upstairs [Music] [Applause] not even close there and the count two and one could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming [Applause] hey that’s a base hit and they’re happy to play station to station right here base is loaded nobody out just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there so bases all loaded up kyle Teal steps to the plate for the White Socks and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Applause] base is juiced no outs [Applause] missed with a change up and the count is one and one i need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something but you got to make some pitches but if he can battle and get through this he can earn some points [Applause] next offering misses and that’s ball three good pitchers make pitches in big situations and right here with a middle of the order hitter off runner in scoring position he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike fouls one away and now three and two i think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield swing and a ball lifted in the air he’s under it drops into the glove runner tags from third the throws outline he’s saved on the board first it’s one zip sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things keep it simple runner third less than two outs put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly so here’s Robert now he’s already set a new career best for stolen bases in a season chris in there for strike one at this point the clean inning is over got to settle in focus on the hitter and get out of it with minimal damage [Applause] just missed it’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on let’s see if they can cash in [Applause] and the right-hander deals swinging a foul straight back pretty good pitch there to take a rip at he wants to get his arms extended he likes the ball away from him a little bit just not able to square it up [Applause] and a foul ball he stays alive that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was one and two here swing and a miss struck him out that’s out number two well that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding the zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout ryan Nota the next to hit takes ball one two outs ball catch inside [Applause] swinging a foul back that’s out of play i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up comebacker to the mound he’s in there well I can understand the defense right there trying to cut off that lead runner at third but a good jump and an excellent finish for the base runner to get in there safely so they’re all loaded up and the batter now Lenny Sosa and that one fouled off so they’re all loaded up with two outs [Applause] late swing fouled off [Applause] not close with that one and it’s one and two i don’t like to say he wasted a pitch i think that was a purpose pitch change the eye level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go swing and a miss and that is that so they get one but end up leaving the bases loaded we head to the second on the south side it’s the White Socks one and the Diamondbacks nothing here on the south side top of the second and now it’s Josh Naylor that’s in there strike one that slider breaking in can be a tricky pitch if you don’t finish it and have that bite at the end and it stays out over the plate it can get hit a long way but that was a good one right there this to third rojas throws on to first one out in the second [Applause] batty fifth third baseman Aueno aueno Suarez up to the plate now he’s been showing off some pop lately three homers already in this series tapped at the plate but it’s a foul ball one out base is empty [Music] [Applause] and now one and two [Music] spang and a miss struck him out now two out usually when you see several pitches you’re going to get at least one that you might be able to do something with but they didn’t exactly challenge him in any way right there and really they just used his aggressiveness against him i don’t think he even got a pitch in the zone no that’s a good point Sigy he goes down on strikes but not a single pitch was actually in the strike zone randall G stands in with two away as he takes a ball swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field robert makes the grab on the run we played an inning and a half it’s one- nothing back here on the south side here’s Josh Rojos third baseman Josh Roas first pitch misses swings through that one patrick Johnson calling the balls and strikes pretty standard zone for Johnson sometimes you might get a little jumpy a little excited and expand the zone but usually you at least feel like the pitcher on the mound is earning it and that’s important because you got to make players earn it that one clips the outside corner one and two and there’s the ball strikes him out went with the sweeper and it worked knight now it’s the veteran outfielder Michael A taylor good defender he’s been inconsistent offensively that one off the mark and that is ball one and another ball check swing called strike next offering is fouled back on the ground right side naylor steps on the bag already two out here in the home half of inning number two chase my draw now it’s the shortstop Chase Maid one for one with a single so far out towards right center field gritic snags it on the run so no runs no hits no errors and no one left we head on now to the top of the third it’s the White Socks one and the Diamondbacks nothing and we’re back and stepping in the rookie left fielder number 13 hower back to work downing ball here rolls foul and a strike in there that front door slider is such a devastating pitch you don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball so you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there it’s out of the swing play that missed by a lot one and two count rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that the batter wasn’t even tempted to swing every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out out to center robert on the move he’s got it and there’s one down [Applause] alec Thomas now thomas patrolling center field 24 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2018 and that’s fouled off [Music] [Applause] [Music] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 [Applause] keeps the attack going with a foul ball one down base is empty on the ground to third boots it still able to fire over he makes the throw but it’s not in time and he reaches safely at night catcher Jose Herrera jose Herrera stands in now for the Diamondbacks hower picks to first thomas back in on a dive here goes the runner base knock center field rounds third headed for the plate he’ll score easily it’s an RBI single it’s one two consecutive base hits for this team just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field everything was on time he stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center and now the short stop peraldo Purdomo he’s one for one lent off the game with a single and a slider misses down and away here at first one gone [Applause] they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away last two pitches have been down in the zone pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play but in this count he’s going to have to give in elevate his pitches and get back into this at bat a little out front there as he swings through it this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt that one ran inside almost got him that one lifted to left and Ben in Tendy able to make the grab [Applause] now batting second baseman Ilamaro Vargas next to hit for Arizona Ilaro Vargas he hit into a double play his first time up [Applause] well struck right field one hops off the wall should be extra bases lead runner gets the stop sign at third it’s a two out double second and third now oh no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter so no surprise he put a great swing on it and now the DH Pav Smith [Applause] first pitch doesn’t find the zone [Applause] sanker catches the zone at the knees traffic on the bases with one already in we’re here in the top half of inning number three that one is absolutely belted and it one hops the wall run comes in from second and they take a two-run lead his confidence level is so high really nice job of coming through in a big spot nice line drive to the pole side right there but he didn’t spin off of it that’s the key you still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that here’s Josh Naylor grounded out his first time fast ball for a strike it’s 0 and one the strategy of winning a ball game when you could make that pitcher work a little more expose himself by throwing pitches that could be the key to winning perhaps later on so good job of extending this inning getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four home hitter up that misses the zone and one and one i got a ball one strike runner at second two down [Music] [Applause] and he grounds one to the right side he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it but three score in the inning two of them on this two-run double and this is now a 31 ball game major League Baseball is on the show and welcome back to the ballpark now it’s going to be Andrew Benendi andrew Benendi and there’s a foul ball and that is downstairs and it’s one and one and the sweeper misses you know these White Socks showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one he’s only given up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense right back to him on the mound fires over to first and Benendi is out you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today miguel Vargas the next to hit a single his first time that one finds the zone and that is strike one he’s gotten into a really good rhythm sat down seven in a row he just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible keep the momentum going oh can’t pick it up cleanly and he’s going to make it to first and we’ll see how they score it well looked like a pretty routine play just couldn’t get it to stick in the glove as he gets tagged with the error should have been two outs in the inning but now they have to work around it and get two more and now the catcher comes up to him kyle Teal drove in a run with a sack fly his first time up fouled off to the right chicago fly ball center field thomas makes the catch for the owl now batting center fielder Luis Robert Jr and now it’s Luis Robert he was a strikeout victim his first time [Applause] swing and a foul out of play and that one is inside ball one the delivery to Robert and a foul ball swings and misses make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today so no runs on no hits one error and a runner left on to inning number four it’s the Diamondbacks three and the White Socks won back at right field John Shami with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth AU Heno Suarez misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike well I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed i mean it could have gone either way but he looked a little shocked for a second there now batting right fielder Randall Gritic so a man at first randall Gretchic now he’s over for one and a foul ball here comes the 01 that’s a little bit low that one catches the zone and count one and two good eye in that spot really good take especially with two strikes suarez gets his lead at first with nobody out and there’s a hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out couple of singles back to back i could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league just a nice line drive into center field here’s the left fielder fly to center his first time he’s old for one inside corner that’s a strike 0 and one [Music] on the ground to the left nice stop to first nicely done for the hour now batting the center fielder Alec Thomas wow Singy he showed off great reaction time and arm strength on that play we need to take another look at it yeah no doubt Boo i mean the Statcast numbers are absolutely impressive but that’s one of those plays I appreciate more with the naked eye the reflexes topnotch and this guy’s a magician with the glove manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change adrien Howser gives way and it’s going to be a start that he’d like to get a redo on not his best back with a new arm in a minute now pitching for now number 64 and never an easy situation coming in with runners at second and third he’s got a pace to work with so he doesn’t have to be perfect but he does have to make some quality pitches alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamondbacks golden opportunity right here on the outside corner that’s strike one oh he’s so good about trying to drive the ball to the opposite field gap in these situations if he takes that approach he could bust this game wide open two on one out ground ball left side and foul ball [Applause] that pitch just misses the inside corner and the count is one and two this one in the air right field reaches but can’t make the grab runner in from third to extend their lead it’s an RBI single and they’re up by three well he wasn’t afraid to hit with two strikes i think he choked up a little bit maybe spread out but he got the job done right there runners at the corners here one away and now the switch in catcher Jose Herrera and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] that breaking ball drops in for a strike back door him with a breaking ball just got the corner there’s nothing you can really do with that [Applause] and a popup right side foul territory has room and he makes the catch [Applause] bill that was a pitch you got to crush unbelievable that he missed it right there i’m telling you he is going to be frustrated with himself until his next at bat so back to the top of the Arizona lineup heraldo Peromo stands in now for the Diamondbacks he is singled and he has flyed to left here’s a high-fly ball out to center robert in and to his right makes the catch and that is that but the RBI single pushes across a run it’s now a 4-1 ball game ready to go for the last half of the inning now here is Ryan Nota ryan [Music] Not right through there for a strike and strike two it’s just been an impressive outing so far continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down that’s what’s been key goes down looking oh he froze him with the change up right there and I think he was so geared up for fast ball once he recognized that it was off speed he just wasn’t able to make an adjustment so a really good strike out and pitcher just won the battle soso in the box now as he looks at ball one second played appearance of the day for him pop foul out of play off to the right oh I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line base is empty one away we’re here in the bottom of the fourth that’s inside that’s inside [Applause] fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts well just excellent location on that inside fast ball really locked him up and it’s a hitter it’s not typically what you’re looking for you’re trying to protect away and then in so you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes it’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball but either way that’s a really nice pitch and here is Josh Rohox has room and he makes the catch down in order go to White Socks and they trail it 4-1 back here on the south side and now it’s the switch in second baseman Ilddaro Vargas and that clips the inside corner movement in the bullpen number 38 appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut taylor getting cranked up as well and he’ll one he swings and fouls one off [Music] out there to center that one gets down for a hit so a runner aboard to start the inning i’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count too good of a pitch to hit right there you have to expand the zone keep that leadoff man off first base and next is the designated hitter Pav Smith first pitch misses all right let’s go swings and pulls a foul to the right side vargas aboard here at first with nobody out check swing and he held up and he takes the strike [Applause] that one misses and the count’s full [Music] strike him out set down on strikes that was pretty nasty that was just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there i think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle so I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands late swing fouled to the left and ball one man at first one away the one-1 is fouled off gets a piece and stays alive the one two and that’s a little high this guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat he just battles up there he doesn’t take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away and that one misses up and in three and two now [Music] foul ball left side he’ll see another and ball four two aboard well a breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now just couldn’t find the strike zone two on one out now up next for Arizona AU Heno Suarez one for two and that’s downed away the one swing and a miss one and one in the air right field taylor settles underneath it out number two [Applause] now batting right fielder Randall Gritic randall Gritic now at the plate first pitch doesn’t find the zone ball one no strikes hit hard on the ground to short they get the force and that is that Diamondback strand a pair but they lead it four to one here on the south side another batter Michael A taylor michael A taylor the wind of the pitch and that one missing low you know these White Socks need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings they’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for them so far zero extra base hits in the game so it’s been tough for him to get anything going just missed sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there next offering popped in the air right field gritic makes the play and there’s one down now batting short stop chase chase MRO getting ready to hit and that’s in for a strike the White Sox trailing by three last half of inning number five [Applause] next offering is in for a strike the short stop takes the ball come on on the ground to first naylor and he handles it himself for the out now batting left fielder Andrew Benendi benendi up here bowl for two in this one and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike oh he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this but he has attacked hitters pitching on the road like this is very impressive this has been a treat to watch in the air out towards right center brings it in and that ends the inning and we’re back now the left fielder number 13 That one fouled off and there’s the strike activity in the pen for the White Socks tyler Alexander preparing to come on if needed alt Villa also getting ready outside corner got him looking well it’s a nice job with the cutter right there he didn’t exactly catch the corner of the zone but that’s one of those where the late movement probably fooled the umpire a little bit those guys do not have an easy job i thought it was a good take overall and you know it’s one of those things where you leave it in the umpire’s hands you just don’t know what the answer’s going to be and that time he lost thomas stands in here takes ball one low that’s off the inside corner two and0 right through there for a strike that one outside and now three and one base is empty one away and we’re the top half of the six draws the walk there oh that’s a really good take right there and that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a T you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with not easy to lay off but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance foul ball there [Applause] throw to first and he’s back in on a dive [Music] run around to go pitch in for a strike throw there safe sit him down that one the other way pulls it in for the That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well i know it didn’t produce a hit but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate so the batting order turns over next up for the Diamondbacks Heraldo Purdomo one for three and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count just missed and that’s off the inside edge and it’s two and one swing at a highf fly ball well struck that’s back there makes the catch on the edge of the track so no runs no base hits no errors and one left on base hard of the order 345 coming up it’s the Diamondbacks four and the White Socks one and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the sixth inning now it’s the DH Miguel Vargas vargas 25 years old and he’s usually a first baseman but today he’s the designated hitter yeah the pitch is in for a strike some people say that first baseman kind of have the day off regularly because they don’t run around a whole lot but when you think about it they are involved in just about every single play and there’s a lot of stress that gets put on their legs so a welldeserved day at the DH spot for him missed with a change up it’s a ball in two strikes and downstairs two strikes spoils that one and it remains two and two pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss third foul ball in a row cut out and miss struck him out and he’s up to seven strikeouts he came out of his mechanics there typically he likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious and next will be the cleanup hitter Kyle Teal swing and a miss as he was late that time one’s the count the Dbacks leading by three here in the bottom of the sixth swinging a drive deep right field gritic going back holds it in on the warning track well I think the wind ended up being a factor right there it’s whipping in for right field right now so otherwise I think that falls out of here two down base is empty luis Robert now who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit and they have their first base runner since the third inning now batting first ryan Nota steps to the plate for the White Socks not [Applause] Inside corner for a strike and it’s 0 and one there’s the strike perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly fast is outside robert off of first have a new pitcher on the mound Tyler Alexander and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year so he’s looking for better right now giving up more than a hit per in any here’s the second base Ilaro Vargas second base Ilaro Vargas first pitch not close [Music] line drive caught now batting the designated hitter Paven Smith so next is the designated hitter for the Dbacks Pave Smith in there and it’s 0 and one nope that’s inside that one missed there’s the swing and a miss bell and those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that he’s got to get a better pitch to hit now a slow roller to second sosa whips it to first and two away to start the seven two out space is empty here’s the cleanup hitter for the Diamondbacks Josh Naylor that’s in for a strike [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and that one fouled off two down nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven next pitch way upstairs battling here as he fouls it away swing and a miss struck him out and Arizona is set down one two three diamondbacks down quickly as they hold on to a 4-1 lead [Music] now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh kevin Ginkle he last pitched two days ago and here is Sosa to the plate the White Socks in striking distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the laid-off man i need a good at bat out of him right here it’s in and out of his glove still fires to first and they get him the misplay made it a bit messy but they clean things up for the out josh Roas so up next for Chicago Josh Rohos this is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively Chris and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored this guy is a big contributor the White Socks trailing by three here in the bottom of the seventh i was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense especially at a premier position and that’s what he does the 02 and that one inside and it hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him next to hit Michael A taylor rightiel the hitting is going to come around he’s going to figure it out but right now his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense let’s go now face it in up the middle and he knocks it down to first and he beats it everyone’s safe didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat that’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly but you can’t really blame the defense in that case really important at bat coming up now chase Mitra will hit next swinging a foul back and that’s out of play got the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ending double play [Music] [Applause] tying run at the plate strike two that’s good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout that misses the zone and the count one and two the shorts stop takes the ball knocks that one away and we’ll do it again [Applause] the tying run at the plate i can’t lose it andrew Benendi up next for the White Socks [Applause] gets a piece there we’ll do it again well he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact fouled off again and it remains three and two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] two on one out hit on the ground to short he gets to it with a slide over to first oh he got him what a play we saw a few skills on display there for the out technique was great reaction time was there and the slide was smooth watching that play come together was really fun now the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen kevin Ginkle departs and he’s on the hook for the runners at second and third so looking for some help there back in a minute now pitching for number 43 gets handed the rock out of the pin all they need from him right here is one out but that’s easier said than done for sure lots of pressure with two runners in scoring position he does have the one open base to work with if needed andrew Benendi steps up 0 for three in this one [Applause] swinging a ground ball down the line and it’s fouled rojos on third taylor on at second with two down in the dirt one and one no advance good job behind the dish activity in the bullpen shelby Miller up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello scott also throwing [Applause] line drive base hit one runs in now a second crosses the plate but it’s a one-run game gets the job done as he brings home a pair really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws and next to hit for the Socks Miguel Vargas lifted in the air down the left side and the inning is over they put two on the board with a couple of hits no errors and one left eighth inning coming up it’s the Diamondbacks four and the White Socks three welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth steven Wilson and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year the numbers stack up with some of the best in the game well one-run game au Hennio Suarez up to hit now ball one there action in the pen down there brandon Eizer a lefty looks to be getting himself ready alt Villa getting loose as well and that one missing low check swing called strike now two and one next offering is fouled back and that skips in the dirt down that one misses so a lead off walk what a battle it’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what he earned that walk randall Gritic digs in now turn highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side nobody out runner at first and that one fouled off swing at a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out good job of just putting the ball in play with two strikes he got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point pretty impressive for an 02 count now back here’s the left fielder 0 for three a fly out a ground out and a strike out [Applause] chicago that one not close ball one he was looking to come up with the shutdown inning and off to a shaky start and that’s downstairs and outside last couple of pitches breaking balls away i think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count that one misses and it’s three at home at this point in the game you cannot issue free passes he’s going to have to challenge this hitter hitter’s got to be ready to swing it and that’ll load the bases that just came apart right there four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging it something out of the zone base is loaded nobody out alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamondbacks we just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame wrap he’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots tough situation right here so important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there [Applause] next offering is in for a strike swing and a miss struck him out huge strike out there so he needed a strike out there and he got it and now we’ll see how they play it defensively yeah now they can move the middle infielders back a little bit get into double play depth then look for a ground ball and roll it up get a big double play get out of this inning i tell you what that was a big strike out in a spot where they really needed one herrera the next to hit takes low for a ball well this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter you can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations [Applause] well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning and that drops in for a strike one ball two strikes and that one moves his feet [Applause] [Music] and that one gets past the catcher nothing happening on the bases though really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed probably doesn’t agree but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch so they’re all loaded up [Applause] ball four and a run comes in to score he’s really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run over the wall this inning’s definitely getting away from him now the White Sox manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen steven Wilson will depart two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher now pitching change here Dan Alto well no margin for error in terms of throwing strikes with the bases loaded just has to execute one pitch at a time to try to get out of this here’s the shortstop at the plate heraldo Purdomo Boo this has been a good one a really good game to this point and huge opportunity with the bases loaded tang and a miss that’s strike one don’t come and get me fast ball right there he didn’t look ready for the velocity i think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here [Applause] all loaded up and we’re in the top of the eighth [Applause] next offering upstairs this is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended what you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands that’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants close but called a ball and it’s two and two home played umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit next pitch inside three and two now boo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away ground ball right side and that chance handled there’s one back to the pitcher covering it’s a double play nicely done and that’ll do it one run in the inning but they lead two last half of the eighth coming up it’s the Diamondbacks five and the White Socks three now pitching for now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Taylor Scott and he’s had a struggle so far this year as you can see the inflated RA looking to bring that down a little bit right here kyle Teal steps to the plate for the White Socks kyle Teal first offering misses badly for ball one [Applause] yeah that’s fouled off next one misses now two balls in a strike swing and a miss as he was out front two two count and that just misses boo i’m not sure how he took that right there i mean that was an incredible two- strike pitch stays alive [Music] got him looking and he did not like the call well it’s just a great job of playing catch with the catcher exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch and probably fooled the umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all and now here’s the big center fielder Luis Robert fast ball for a strike at 95 the White Socks trailing by two here in the bottom half of the eighth inning next offering is in for a strike swing and a high-fly ball that’s out to center thomas makes the grab and there’s two gone up next for the White Socks first baseman and up next for Chicago Brian Nota 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out and the first pitch misses for ball one in the air left field down the line and it falls and that keeps the inning going all right let’s go that’s a ball that a lot of times you’ll see the shorts stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough but right there it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff for the base hit and now Lennin Sosa and that’s through there for a strike one and one [Applause] this one high in the air to left center under it nabs it that is the inning so one left for the White Socks still a two-run deficit it’s 5-3 back at Ratefield and here is Ilmaro Vargas well both sides equally as strong so not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate that one finds the zone strike one doublebarreled action in the bullpen number 38 getting loose out there taylor getting cranked up as well [Applause] the one swinging a ball hit out towards left center field takes it in for the out now betting the designated hitter Pith now Paven Smith Altavilla in his fifth season 32 years old and he was a fifth round pick back in 2014 [Applause] and takes low for ball one base is empty one away here in the top of the ninth that one way inside [Applause] that’s in there and it’s foul away [Music] [Applause] next pitch not close up high three and two the pitch is outside and ball four his ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one and now the first baseman Josh Naylor [Applause] fast ball gets the corner at the knees smith the base runner at first with one out [Applause] and now it’s even up oh he’s really working him away this at bat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield [Applause] and there’s a ball [Music] here comes the pitch runner breaks for second fought off foul [Applause] that one misses full countdown bows it back with two strikes [Applause] that’s out to center field robert in position and he makes the catch and they’re two down up next for the Diamondbacks third baseman Au Heno Suarez so a man aboard next to hit for Arizona auheno Suarez [Applause] pitch misses inside and that’s ball one that two seam fast ball is usually coupled with a slider away and when a hitter’s conscious of the pitch in it’s hard for him to cover middle away and that’s where a pitcher can really finish off that batter check swing and he went and the count one and one that’s down and in [Applause] two outs three and two in the dirt but kept close and now a man into scoring position nobody on defense feels great right now the pitcher feels responsible for missing so far outside and the catcher wishes intentional walk here with two out they set up a force at any base to end the inning now batting right fielder first and second two outs now up next for Arizona Randall Gritic [Applause] that one finds the zone and that’s strike one two outs couple of base runners at first and second next offering is in for a strike couple sliders away gets that hitter to really start looking and even leaning out over the plate very susceptible for the two seamer here let’s see what he throws goes down swinging for the strike out went back to the slider and it was a good idea so they strand a pair 891 to up in the bottom of inning number nine it’s the Diamondbacks five and the White Socks three welcome back and here comes the closer Shelby Miller left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year so this seems like a calculated move here’s the third base Josh Roas third base Josh Roas swing and a pop off in foul ground has room and he makes the catch now batting right fielder Michael so up next for Chicago Michael A taylor you got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off and that misses and it’s one and0 [Applause] and that one wrapped foul [Applause] check swing called strike [Applause] twins and misses it’s a strikeout white Sox down to their final out well we saw a solid effort out of their starter in the bullpen is following suit just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach when you could hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances on the ground to third and this should do it on to first ball game sometimes it takes just getting away from home players can sort of come together connect a little bit more than they do when they’re at home with their families and that can breed to success on the field as we saw in
