joined by my partner Chris Singleton i’m John Shami saying you a little precipitation in the forecast for this one nothing major hopefully shouldn’t halt the game at any point but it is wet out there on the field one thing as a hitter if you can bunt for a base hit it’s going to be a little slick for that infielder picking it up you also have to remember over at first base second base wherever on the base pass it’s going to be a little bit slower track so you have to be a little more cautious with your lead or if you’re going to steal making sure you get a good jump
it’s the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels all right we’ll be back to get this one started after this just about ready to roll and towing the slab Jack Kachanowitz chris what should we keep an eye on here with him
well coming into this game hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher so it just shows you how effective he’s been he’s been able to move his pitches around add and subtract change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball we’ll see what he’s got in this one
so stepping in for Boston Jiren Durant singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career strike one and a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first
coach Chanowitz keeping an eye on him next to hit Abraham Toro and that one a little below the knees ball one runner yes
here’s the pitch run around to go foul ball there [Music] [Applause] fast ball for a strike and a count one and two nobody out runner at first that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was moore acrobatic throw for one to first not in time great effort there roman now here’s the Red Sox DH Roman Anthony late with the swing there
toro over at first with one away outside low and it’s one and one working down in the zone to start the at bat looking for that double playground ball yeah back to back sinkers there he’s looking for some weak contact or to get this hitter to roll over now as a hitter you have to be really disciplined don’t look down because you’ll end up chasing the ball down set your sights high maybe you get a mistake
in the dirt but kept close man at first one away and there’s a rocket into the outfield lead runner around second headed for the plate he’ll score well done drives in the run he got a pitch he could drive but he didn’t get too excited like a lot of guys do and pull off the baseball really good timing all the way through the swing and the barrel was so on playing with the ball easy drive into the gap for that double one out runner at second and next will be the cleanup hitter Trevor Story and a foul ball [Music] [Applause] swing and a chopper out to short and story is out here’s a check of the Red Sox lineup put together by manager Alex Kora someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs david Hamilton
well Boo there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does i mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me i I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not will Abrau stands in here takes ball one low they’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated [Applause] and that’s in there for a strike and now it’s even
man this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today and that misses and it’s two and one oh that’s low
in the dirt [Music] man on second two down fouled off again and it remains three and two [Applause] on the ground right side shadowwell and they put the tag on him for the out but a run will score in the inning on this RBI double it’s now a one- nothing ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back in Anaheim and on the hill in this one it’s Walker Beller and Singing we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots
well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side and there’s a foul ball and that one pulled foul the 02 and it skips in the dirt and that’s in the dirt two count that one is absolutely bel that’s back there to the warning track makes the catch all right let’s take a look at the Angels lineup
and something they’ve talked about needing to improve on moving forward is their ability to apply consistent pressure chris right now it’s not a club that gets on base enough
and sometimes Boo you just need a hitter to go up there and grind out and at bat maybe have 11 12 pitches and all of a sudden players get fired up in the dugout and they want to do the same thing and before you know it you start to get base runners on and you get a big hit and all of a sudden you ride that wave for a few days and go on a winning streak that’s something they definitely could use

two outs space is empty here’s Trout he is quite an athlete i mean you look around the other sports basketball football you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports too outside low and it’s one and0 red Sox already leading oh he doesn’t get the call two balls no strikes and that’s in for a strike fouls one off two and two hit pretty well in the air out to center raphaela under it nabs it and that’ll do it second inning set to go here’s the center fielder Son Raphael coachitz back to work
raphael the rangy center fielder 24 years old and he’s a native of Kurissau that one in the dirt and that’s ball two oh that pitch not even close it’s a two- count now he can’t be over aggressive he’s got to make sure that pitch is right on a T for him that one’s spoiled and the count now two and one [Applause] ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning really nice job staying up the middle with his approach he didn’t try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield and now they’ve got some speed on first so we’ll see if they try to get him into motion and stepping in for Boston Marcelo Meyer coach picks to first raphaela dives back in safely first pitch doesn’t find the zone and that’s in for a strike carl Dixon working the plate in this one
you know we often hear and talk about umpires being a pitcher umpire but Boo Dixon maybe a little bit more hitter friendly than most he’s kind of tight on the corners so we’ll see if that comes into play at all in this one
swing and a miss and the count is one and two chris the players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware of tendencies so you’re not that surprised i’d say the latter because pitcher’s got to pitch to his strength regardless the hitter’s got to hit to his strength so you’re aware of it but you have to just hunt for what you can handle conor Wong up next for the Red Sox yeah that’s him for a strike 0 and one coach checks on first raphaela back in on a dive [Music] [Applause] the 1-1 is fouled off and the righty deals up the middle netto for one double play what a twin killing to end the inning no runs one hit no errors and no one left now to the bottom of the second it’s the Red Sox one and the Angels nothing [Applause] bottom of the second and now Taylor Ward left fielder taylor Ward let’s go Taylor walker Beller will go back to work swing and a ball lined out towards center makes the catch and there’s one down sometimes you want to be aggressive early in the at bat he was right there hard line out first pitch of the inning no reward but hey you got to keep swinging it

no he’s in there just off the plate swing and a liner foul off to the right the 1-1 is fouled off tying run is at first bottom half of inning number two late night Lamont down on strikes angels leave one still behind by a count of one to nothing and we’re back top half of the third inning and here is David Hamilton rolled softly but that goes foul [Music] swing and a foul out of play goes down looking for the strike out buckled him with the back door breaking ball for strike three well he went up there trying to be aggressive that’s for sure hacking at those first two pitches but clearly that last one fooled him he could have been sitting on something else entirely but you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone maybe choke up maybe spread out your stance a little bit you got to give the guy credit on the mound though he went right after him
now batting Jiren Durant way outside and that’s ball one [Music] [Applause] well struck right field and it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases and into second with one away that’s a double
i’m sure he feels really good about that one baseline drive to the pole side right there but he didn’t spin off of it that’s the key you still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that the batter now Abraham Toro 0 for one he hit into a fielder’s choice his first time check swing and he went that’s strike one

throw to third save duran stands at third with one gone in the inning swang and a miss and a count one and two one ball two straight [Applause] on the ground right side gets it to first runner scores though so that’s a little insurance and the lead is two
now that designated hitter Roman Anthony so now the DH spot Roman Anthony he doubled home a run in his first AB [Applause] foul ball [Applause] [Music] two outs that missed by a lot now one and two [Music] [Applause] got him breaking ball clips the outside edge one run on one base hit no errors and no one left we head now to the home half of inning number three it’s the Red Sox two and the Angels nothing [Applause] and welcome back to the ballpark and now it’s switchhitting third baseman Luis Reano
lango line drive holds it in for the out it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control now it’s the second baseman Christian Moore check swing called strike one out base is empty that’s a ball close but called a ball and it’s two and one
good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone
one down base is empty swanging a ground ball and it goes just foul beller winds and fires that misses the zone and it’s a full count and that one is lifted in the air durant makes the catch for the out and there are two outs now batting the short
so the lineup flips over and now Zack Netto [Applause] that one finds the zone 4 and one swang and a ball lifted in the air
abrau makes the catch and that is that back here at Angel Stadium out of the fourth so here’s Boston’s cleanup hitter Trevor Story and first off is fouled off
you know these Red Sox doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them they’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game
but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win
man at first nobody out will your Abrau now at the plate one
squirts away a little bit still relatively early but with a pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set them up to do more damage later in this game that one fouled off red Sox leading it by two next offering is fouled back stays alive [Applause] [Music] and a one-two this one in the dirt to second but way too late safe there story into scoring position on the wild pitch and there goes the double play possibility
definitely trying to work down and get that double play ball but it got away enough to erase any chance of that good job of moving up into scoring position now a hit could make that wild pitch really sting red Sox by two and it remains two and two breaking ball misses down and away out towards right center that’s well struck and it is gone he sends it out of here his 14th of the year it’s 4 nothing he kept swinging and it paid off well that was a battle Boo and he just kept taking his cuts finally squared one up knew what pitch he wanted to hit spent on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off son Raphaela up next for the Red Sox [Applause] that’s off the inside corner ball one can be tough to bounce back after a big home run but nobody on nobody out you just have to treat it as a fresh inning [Applause] and that one clips the corner doublebarreled action in the bullpen usay Kikuchi the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose nerys also getting ready [Applause] ball poop inside just missed and that’s ball four
that’s ball four well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first
now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen jack Kachanowitz done for the afternoon and this is one he’d like to forget back with a new arm after this now pitching for
new pitcher in the game for the Angels Jose Soraniano
he doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him they’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump man at first and next for the Red Sox Marcelo Meyer he’s 0 for one [Applause] first off
and it just misses
that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by and another ball oh he’s really working him away this at bat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield and now two and one
good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone hard to get the barrel to it right through there for a strike [Applause] gets a piece and stays alive [Applause] and that one lifted in the air center field adele makes the catch one away up next for the Red Sox catcher Connor Wong so a man aboard Connor Wong getting ready to hit 0 for one so far [Applause] and that is out of play still only one out here in the inning next offering upstairs [Applause] he swings and fouls one off [Applause] swings through that one it’s a strike out now batting
David Hamilton up next for the Red Sox went down on strikes his first time through oh one

so a wild pitch allows the runner to advance runner at second two down top half of inning number four [Applause] to the right side he’ll do it himself they limit the damage here two runs for Boston on the home run it’s now a four nothing ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back in Anaheim now the number two hitter Nolan Shadow Nolan Shadow he’s a bad ball hitter so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone he still might beat you not an easy out by any means
that one in 95 missed up top one and one yeah that’s fouled off ground ball up the middle and that chance handled throw not in time it’s an unlikely infield single tough play and a nice backhand stop had to be perfect with the exchange and throw to get the out but it looked like he had to dig in there a little deeper like he was trying to get a split finger grip or something close play but that little extra time on the transfer made all the difference
so a man at first stepping in the long ball threat mike Tra gets the call and that’s strike one all in one buer turns kicks fires and he grounds one back up the middle oh great stop the throw is wild and it gets away now batting left field well an aggressive slide at second base but it was legal i like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit nice job by the base runner
taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels buer looked to first that one found hard the other way tra the base runner at first with one out oh he doesn’t get the call and that is B well I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed i mean it could have gone either way but he looked a little shocked for a second there ball to strike the pitch
that’s bolted [Applause] that one missed
he hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day he’s in danger of walking his first batter right here the 3-1 swung on belted that ball’s carrying and that ball is gone home run number 20 on the year and they cut into the deficit it’s 4-2 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat he’s that confident power versus power right there like two locomotives colliding who’s going to win well a really good job there by the hitter getting the top hand working powers that fast out of here [Applause] so one out nobody on and now it’s Travis Darno at the plate called strike right there [Applause] fast ball for a strike all right now he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls but at this point he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone no question about this one it’s out of here they do it again backto back homers it’s 43 that one just sounded different and it might have been the loudest moment yet man my ears are ringing i can feel that swing from the boot backto back jacks and this club is fired up right now dude i mean this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow here’s Joe Adele reached on an infield single his first time and ball one count one and [Applause] Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side one down base is empty that one ripped but foul [Applause] swing and a high-fly ball right field calls it in to away up next for the Angels right fielder so here’s Wade now Jr and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter and that one’s a little bit low one ball one strike just missed with that back door breaking ball if he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it’s 1-1 look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat swinging a foul back that’s out of play [Music] two down doan battling here as he fouls it away in the dirt and it’s two and two [Applause] and there’s a ball foul ball and it remains a full count i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up swinging a ground ball up the middle over to first
and that is that but two round tripers in this inning the long ball was working it’s now a 43 ball game ready now for the fifth inning and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Jiren Durant Soraniano in his third season 26 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic there’s the strike next offering is fouled back back foot slider ties him up struck him out and Chris that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base and the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that’s how you do it keep him off balance get him out of there and deal with the next guy stepping in Abraham Toro he’s been a great free agent side swanging a ball driven out to center way back there off the batter’s eye and gone a soaring shot to center and they add a run it’s 53 Boo i wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here but it had just enough behind it for the homer what an attempt at the wall though he really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back [Applause] base is empty one away now it’s the DH roman Anthony swaying and a miss a bat goes flying 01’s the count [Music] [Applause] fall off foul [Applause] goes down looking two down base is empty trevor Story comes up to the plate one for two [Applause] swings through that one for strike one oh and one [Applause] and that one is inside [Applause] the 1-1 is fouled off [Music] foul ball still a one and two count two down base is empty but one run across and we’re in the top of the fifth that one not close and it’s two and two and a foul ball he stays alive [Music] [Applause] got him looking that’s a strike out one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run it’s now a 53 ball game back after this on the show ready to go for the last half of the inning down the third baseman Luis Ranipo

buer back to work right through there for a strike you know these Angels digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking they’ve been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it’s right into a glove but still they’ve hit nine line drives so far that’s something they should feel very good about

and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth christian Moore the next to hit for the Angels fly to left his first time speaking of those line drives you can’t get too discouraged when they don’t drop in for you it’s important to remember that you pretty much did everything right and that’s just baseball sometimes that one misses in the dirt well on the mound very efficient able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat swing and a miss he was late strike two one ball
base is empty one away last half of inning number five in the air left field down the line and it’s caught for the out good pitch he just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay close
and next for LA Zack Neto for two in this one and that one fouled off buer fires he swings and hits a fly ball center field flashes the leather on the run and catch and that’s the third out all right we go to the top half of inning number six and now the right fielder Willard Abrau he’s a guy Chris highlights include some of the best throws from the outfield that you will ever see definitely one of the best arms of the sport and that one is downstairs ball one yeah the infielders and the catcher can never give up on a play because if this guy thinks he has a chance he’s going to throw it from the warning track if he has to [Music] [Applause] you can do it ah that hit him and the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning

Garrick Crochet gets handed the rock out of the pen these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there’s not much margin for error but at the same time there’s a reason they’re put in these situations and now the first baseman Nolan Showell and that misses and that is ball one swing and a miss as he was late with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters swing and a miss as he was late that time

he’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game that one in there to Mike Trrowley
boo this guy’s definitely a plus runner but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break it’s guys like that even though they don’t have the elite speed the fact that they’re consistent with it they make moves on the base paths and that one inside and it hit him
he had two strikes on him and he hit him
so here’s the cleanup hitter Taylor Ward taylor Ward yeah this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it’s really important getting back into this ball game

well good luck against this guy he’s been extremely tough to hit this year his numbers are excellent and now here is Joe Adell
