Family Ballpark Guides: What to Do With Kids at Citi Field
welcome to Family Ballpark Guides a series dedicated to families and little ones who are looking to take full advantage of their trips to the ballpark This time we’re visiting City Field the home of the New York Mets If you want to know what activities kids can get into or if you can bring a diaper bag through the gates we’ll answer those questions and more Upon arrival you’ll be greeted with the original Shea Stadium home run apple outside the park that you can take a photo with Diaper bags are permitted as long as they are not backpack style Other permitted bags include purses tote bags drawstring bags and softsided coolers as long as they are all smaller than 16x 16x 8 in You can also bring snacks one sealed plastic water bottle and a juice box but they cannot be frozen Anyone under 32 in tall does not need a ticket They do however need to sit on a parent or guardian’s lap Check to see if there is a giveaway On select games fans will be handed a free Mets themed item on their way through the door on the first come first serve basis Once inside check out the Mets Hall of Fame plaques at the top of the Jackie Robinson rotunda and the replica of Mr Mets locker at the City Perks concierge If it’s a child’s first visit to Cityfield stop by fan assistance and sign up for a first game certificate You can have it mailed to your house or it can be picked up in the seventh inning If you need to store your stroller stop by guest assistants If either team is taking batting practice on the field before the game find a spot in the outfield to try to catch a home run ball Now that you’re in the outfield check out FanFest which is located in the center field concourse There are batting cages a kitty field to take some swings a chance to get a photo with Mr and Mrs Met and raffle opportunities While in center field you can stop by the Mets Museum which celebrates the history of the team with special artifacts including the 1969 and 1986 World Series trophies As you work your way towards left field you’ll find the Mets Kids Club Sign up for a free membership online at mets.com/kidsclub or visit the booth located in section 131 before the end of the third inning Members get lanyards ID cards special items to pick up at the booth and access to the Mr and Mrs Met Dash but more on that later When you’re getting hungry kids meals are available to purchase and come in a souvenir helmet If you’re looking to try something more adventurous and unique to City Field you can get fried Oreos the team’s signature mozzarella sticks or a bucket of cookies If you’re celebrating something special you can go online to purchase a message that will appear on the scoreboard during the fourth or fifth inning And if you’re at a Sunday game keep an eye on the scoreboard for funmation graphics and other fun animations Make sure your little one does not miss the five burrow mascot race A pizza slice a skyscraper a ferry a giraffe and a subway will race in the middle of the third inning of every home game And don’t forget to stand up and bald out take me out to the ball game and Lazy Mary during the seventh inning stretch Look ahead on the schedule to make sure you don’t miss the Mr and Mrs Met Dash where kids 12 and under run the bases after select Sunday games On select Friday games you can cap off your night by watching a fireworks show after the final out For more information or to purchase tickets visit mets.com Enjoy your trip to City Field
