Could it be a quiet off season for the Edmonton Oilers
it’s going to be a boring summer for the Oilers and I don’t think people want to hear that and I think people are going to roast me and if this gets clipped I’m sure the comments will be filled with anger and there’ll be people being like the Oilers media is whatever
i just don’t know how you can expect anything else right now and here’s the other challenge that Stan Bowman’s going to have is that and we heard when Conor McDavid talked the other day McDavid in all likelihood is going to want some sort of proof or plan that the Oilers not only are going to be legit Stanley Cup contenders next year but they have a plan to be legit Stanley Cup contenders for the next 3 four five six seasons and if you get when you get McDavid signed to 8 years and when you get Evan Buchard signed to 8 years Leon Dry settles 8-year extension kicks in on July 1 you’re going to have those three players all under contract and all with cost certainty for the next eight full seasons the and the cost certainty side of that is incredibly valuable what the Oilers need to do this summer is one sadly not blow all their assets they need to keep something in the system because there will be needs at the deadline and all that and that’s not me saying they don’t need to go out there and make improvements they need to get a goalie this off season
whatever caliber who whatever name that ends up being you cannot come into training camp next year with Pickard and Skinner and no competition at all you at least need competition at the bare bare bare bare minimum you likely need a legitimate name in there you probably need a new top nine forward if you’re moving out both of Vanderane and Victor Ardson someone’s coming back to what degree to what extent how good they are how much do you spend I don’t know is it free agency trade i don’t know but you’re probably losing Kane and Arvdson and replacing them with one name but what Bowman needs to do is also find players who can come in and yes help you next year but also be on the right side of the age 30 benchmark and can help you for the next four or five seasons i think that is why they like Trent Frederick as much as they do because I think they go cost certainty this is a guy who we can point to and say he’s part of the solution for the next 3 4 years they’re not doing the two years for Arvidson rental for Skinner type thing anymore i think they need to start taking some shots at younger players one guy who’s come up a lot over the last couple of days is Cody Glass he’s not being uh qualified by the New Jersey Devils he’s going to be a free agent he’s on his fourth organization in 5 years he’s 26 years old he doesn’t score well but he does the defensive things really well and he’s a right shot centerman who can play pretty physically you look at guys like that like what was the move last summer what was the best move the Oilers made
the best move I probably got like Pod Coulson
vil Pod Coulson
oh in the summer yes
in the summer yes
it was Vicil Pod Goolson you went and got a costc controlled young player who needed a change of scenery if you go to Cody Glass and say “Hey we’re going to give you a 2-year deal 1 point something mil it’s a lowc cost thing.” And I know some people were like “He’s just Yanmark.” Okay but if he’s younger Yanmark with upside take that guy on your team right what if he ends up being and he’s not going to hit this ceiling
but like look at what Washington did with Dylan Stro yeah they turned him around really well they took him off the scrap peep he wasn’t good enough for the lottery team in Chicago and they turned him into a legitimate topline center right
probably a few better season i don’t but I don’t think Cody Glass is strong i know what you mean but like Cody Glass what if he finds his offense and he’s a better younger version of Adam Henrique like I want to see Stan Bowman go and take some upside shots here this summer i don’t want any more of like the veterans that don’t fit the system and all that next year I would love to see a guy like Cody Glassier i’d love to see Matso i’d love to see Noah Phelp on the roster cody Glass i So I was looking through out of curiosity so
Mackie Seuskevich
in Florida
florida not to acquire him but he did not play in the playoffs for them at least the final but got 60 games in the regular season and 15 goals I believe somewhere around there
i wonder if that’s something they try to do similarly with a Seavoi where he’s on the team all year playoffs come around you hypothetically acquire your Brad Marshon whoever that forward is and that kind of pushes him out of the lineup a bit but he’s around and I think it’s important to have players like Seavoi and Philp in on the roster because of what you said you need a lot of cat pick guys but guys with some upside who like hey if they hit they can take off and go and all of a sudden there’s another weapon for you looking through like obviously free agency is not exactly a place you go out and find all these like mid 20year-old players
which is why a guy like Cody Glass popping up is interesting
totally yeah saw like Casper Kappa I know he was here but like a guy who’s only 28
the upside you know what he is but he’s 28 and he’s
score you 15 goals next year and bounce between your fourth line and your second line
10 to 15 goals somewhere around there and but yeah I agree it’s that is where they got to go but they it’s going to be interesting what they do in the top six and we spoke about it about like
they keep going for these experimental players of like guys who
like yourtons your Skinners you’re I’m I’m sure there’s other players after that as well who like don’t necessarily work out fully to what they want is like if you do that again this summer
you have to know they’re going to hit
yep and that’s why I wonder about You’re not going to like this but I wonder if they just like throw an offer at Patrick Kane you know what I mean like you know what Patrick Kane is
but are you going to give him he’s at this point in his career he’s a middling 5v5 producer who can help you on the power play like I don’t think he’s coming in here and putting up points on your third line he needs to play top six and play on your power play and I don’t see that happening
but can he play top six if you don’t have Averson and Kane you kind of need someone to fill that role right you know what I mean like and I just think instead of being like “Oh I wonder what Jeff Skinner can do in the playoffs for us all.” Like can Victor Arbertson find his 40 goal form it’s like I know Patrick Kane’s probably going to come here and score 20 goals
but we said Skinner and Arbitson should have come here and scored 20 goals right
but I think the unknown was more on those guys than what Patrick Kane is you obviously we all know what
I disagree with that because if Kane’s not getting power play time he won’t put up those numbers
maybe they mix up the power play a bit next year if Gullet’s gone right like everything’s on the table
i
It’s interesting
well like here’s another thing too like you talk about needing top six wingers obviously McDavid and Dry Settle are locked in heyman’s locked in up there is there a world where again if you’re looking at Cody Glasses and Phelps and you have a guy like Yanmark who can also play center is there maybe not a world where just Henrik and N are starting the year as your top six wingers
yeah I think so i think definitely either of them
and like what’s they’ll make the playoffs next year they’re going to be a playoff team
yes that division is
so like what’s the problem with maybe just going and saying you know what let’s take a stab on glass let’s take a stab on you know keeping Phil up voy will be in your top nine as well so between Henrik and NG and Hyman and Seavoy few names in there you maybe you bring back a Connor Brown who you know is versatile enough to bounce around p Coulson played that role captain played that role piece meal it together get to the deadline and see what your situation is
yeah I the only problem I would have is you have a lot of question marks obviously and you don’t want to go into the season like Colorado did you have to go out and acquire like four or five players before your team’s like “Okay we’re great.” And I don’t think this team has to be perfect by any means heading into the season march is when I need this team to be to be good but yeah you got to you got to address a few positions the top six thing is since you brought it up is very intriguing to me and people keep saying JJ Prurka i think Buffalo is obviously aiming very high they’re looking at that Chicago pick and it looks like he’s not going to get moved now uh I don’t think it’ll cost that much but I think it’ll cost too much for the Oilers purka what’s up Nation citizens if you like that video then you need to be subscribed to the Oilers Nation YouTube podcast live shows exclusive interviews and analysis everything you need from your favorite voices at Oilers Nation and you don’t want to miss any of it so hammer that subscribe button
After a deep playoff run, the Edmonton Oilers are taking a more reserved approach this off-season. Instead of chasing big-name free agents or making headline-grabbing trades, the team seems focused on keeping their core intact and making subtle depth moves. With championship aspirations still alive, some fans are wondering whether this quiet strategy is a sign of confidence โ or a missed opportunity.
Today, Tyler and Liam broke down the Oilers’ low-key off-season strategy, analyzing the key re-signings, under-the-radar additions, and what this potential approach says about the team’s mindset heading into next season.

Noooooo! I want to get a goalie and have a busy offseason
I want demko
how are you not taking a chance with Patrick Kane if you've taken a chance on Arvidsson and Skinner.. he's more skilled than either of them.. year at a time
Bowman is a charlatan.
So you expect Connor to resign and you're not going to make any changes?
Oh it better be a big Summer or 97 is packing his bags. Book it
Lol other teams also looking on scrap heap for cody glass like players!
It sounds like they donโt have assets to get good top 6 guys. If thatโs the case, they should keep Kane. Not easy to find that. And maybe you can coach him all year on the mental side.
Well if its a quiet off season theyโll be scrambling at the trade deadline and wonโt meet their needs again.
Get rid of McWimp the overpaid overrated bum! Two time proven Stanley cup LOSER. Why are the Oilers throwing more money at a proven LOSER ? Bouchard, Nurse are bums! The whole forwards lineup minus Hyman and Perry are not playoffs quality to win a cup. Crysaitl isn't worth near what he's earning.
It was Jeff Jackson that signed Skinner, Arvidsson, Josh Brown and resigned Henrique
Keep kane till minimum trade deadline we never had a healthy kane last yr now we do better foolish to get rid of him arvidson can piss off
Bye bye McDavid.
Oilers are money first and stanley cup second. Thatโs why they wonโt win.
Bouchard s not worth the money he thinks hes worth , trade him and nurse that's over 10 million cap space opened up
Why would you trade Kane has been nothing but an asset , arvidson is ok to trade.
Well in that small chance we won't get a long mcdavid extension, a quiet boring summer will increase that
Holloway, Foegele, Broberg, and Lavoie were lost. What if… we get them BACK!
Glass has hands trust
I would absolutely not get rid of E kane! Control him in the finals and let him ride out his last year on contract. You need his toughness and what he brings bigtime!!! Pod kane Perry Trent
They let Broberg, Holloway, McLeod, Foegele go, all are young player….. Tell me they want to play younger players…..
Kane gone
Broberg and Holloway is haunting me
Expect mcdavid to resign but i dont see a whole lot of change in the roster thats currently esatiblished. #1 goalie and a few forwards.
Oilers won't even make playoffs in a no hit league. Oilers better keep their head up now against Vancouver
Mcdavid will not resign mark it
