Blue Jays Players React to Cricket Gear?! | Brits Visit Cricket Day at the Park ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ

okay the baseball adventure continues We’re at the Rogers Center for Blue Jays Cricket Day I’m here with Toby from Cricket District Mate buzzing
Incredible First ever Major League Baseball game We’re going to be bringing cricket and baseball together Can’t wait First up we introduced our love of cricket to the Blue Jays players and coaches Thank you for having us in your home man Dalton Felix lovely to meet you man Brendan Yes Felix Nice to meet you Nice to meet you
Do you have to pinch yourself when you’re in here
every day and we’re excited to obviously cricket day happening
It’s incredible man It’s my favorite day getting to talk to like the team Canada players Um you know now three years in a row you know talked with their coach and the different players It’s good to kind of bring everyone together especially being Canada’s team here
I want to get your first impressions I know you’ve tried a bit of cricket before
I tried I was not very good at it
I think you would love cricket because it’s you’re opening up the 360 angles to hit into fouls is runs You you could take those
It looks quite similar to the way some cricketers play particularly with their hips Have you noticed some similarities between the sports
yeah I think especially like the way T20 is going now It’s all about sixes and homers
You bowl this ball Have you ever seen this before
i haven’t No How would you hold that
cross the seams Oh like that
That is a delivery cricket What we’re going to do is throw at you some cricket slang and you just have to tell us what you think this might mean All right
first one Bouncer
Oh good one What do you think a tail ender is
maybe a ball that doesn’t bounce as high
And a bouncer will be bounced short and intentionally try and hit you which you’re allowed to do
It’s got to be a home run
Oh no It’s actually someone that hard to hit What about a jaffer
a jaffer i’m going to go with great play A bad pitch
It’s a good pitch It’s like you’re throwing absolute heat and done everything with it
All right Can you do a forward defensive to the camera and just see what it looks like this is so embarrassing Yeah boy Run
With the Blue Jays players semi-s seriously considering a career in cricket we met Thomas who gave us a look around the Blue Jays ballpark
Hey guys how’s it going nice to meet you How’s it going welcome to Rogers Center So this is the home of the Toronto Blue Jays Canada’s only major league baseball team The main thing that stands out is obviously the roof So this stadium was one of if not the first uh stadium with a fully retractable roof Whenever the roof’s closed it does feel like the atmosphere is really really good It keeps the sound in But what I will say when the roof is open it’s a whole different type of atmosphere You know people are out in the sun They’re enjoying themselves more The vibes are are just amazing
Couldn’t help but notice you got a baseball bat
I do Yes The player this one was issued to is Vladimir Guerrero Jr
Fancy playing a shot with it
yeah why not bit of that wrong sport mate Okay guys So welcome to Rogers Banner Club Obviously as you can see around you we have a lot of memorabilia a lot of items So this is really our place to celebrate our history and our players Talk me through the gold glove award I’d love to see something like that in cricket maybe for a wicket keeper
There is a gold glove awarded to each position player who is the best defensively that year Okay guys so this is the Rogers suite The main reason why I’ve brought you here is this display above me
What do you think that is
i can see a name Batista
Yes
And is it is it every
I know what it is I know what it is It’s a really famous bat flip when you hit a homer Right And this is the trajectory of
Exactly Yeah So whenever he hit the home run and he flipped the bat this is what that trajectory is One for Dunson Batista with a drive deep left field No doubt about it So this is Jay’s Nest This is another one of our newly renovated spaces But the main thing that I want to talk about here is if you look over to the right the two names I want to focus on are Tom Cheek and Joe Carter So in 1992 we won our first World Series But in 1993 we won a back we won backto back World Series We came here for for game six in the World Series Came up it was the bottom of the ninth inning We you know we were we were losing at the time Joe Carter comes up and he hits a walk-off home run to win us the game and subsequently win us the World Series
On the way a swing and a belt left field way back Blue Jays win it The Blue Jays are World Series champions as Joe Carter hits a three-run home run in the ninth inning And the Blue Jays have repeated as World Series champions Tom Cheek he was commentating on that and responsible for one of the most famous announcements in not just in Blue Jays history but in baseball history And it’s touch them all You’ll never hit a bigger home run in your life And also Toronto winning was like the whole of Canada winning So the whole of Canada would have been tuned into those words as you were saying
Yeah It really cemented us as you know not just a not just a major league baseball team but an actual winning you know back-to-back World Series baseball team
With the game starting soon and the gates opening we headed to our seats to get to the action Yeah it’s awesome No super excited Feels like a kind of T20 night 100 Ready to see some some home runs Sorry Some home runs and a few wickets and outs
Outs Outs
Yeah Vlad is at the plate It couldn’t be much better
You know what would make it better come on
Hot dog Come on
Let’s go
Come on baseball Swing and a deep fly ball left field It’s out of here Strong hits it on the ground Fair ball left field line rolling into the corner RBI double Miles Strong coming in Strong makes the catch and the Blue Jays win the game Day two at the ballpark I think Toby might have taken cricket day a little too literally Oh god
Yeah Uh yeah fine You know it’s cricket day
They’re not actually playing It’s still They’re still playing baseball Not cricket here Well no cricket
It’s cricket day but they’re not actually They’re still playing baseball It’s not cricket out here
right i don’t know anything about baseball
Well that could be a problem Yeah
Um
can you explain it to me
how long you got
1 minute
Okay There are two teams in baseball One team’s hitting one team’s pitching The objective of the hitting team is to score runs You score runs by hitting a home run which is being at the plate and hitting the ball out of the ground The other way that you score runs is getting on base So you hit the ball within play and before the fielder gets the ball to throw it at the base of your running team you get there The most runs you can score from a pitch in baseball is four The guy hitting a home run and the bases will be loaded So that would count as four runs The pitching team on the other hand are trying to get the hitting team out You do that by throwing three strikes in the imaginary strike zone that the umpire decides where it is They will play or leave and it will get in the strike zone and that will be out Or they hit the ball in the air fielder catches it bats out also Or they run you out of the base but you’re attempting to run to You have to get them out three times to be the end of innings Then it’s nine innings So three times for one innings both teams switch over when three players are out That’s nine innings total In the middle middle of the seventh inning we all stand up and see take me out the ball game No one knows exactly why There are no draws in baseball So if it’s still tied after nine you go on and on and on till it’s over Got it
Great Got it Easy Let’s go find some people to play with Let’s do it Come on Jo Let’s get you inside
You want them while Toby tested the local fans bowling abilities I get distracted by the customary ballpark hot dog
Happy cricket Happy cricket day Happy cricket day Who can play cricket whoa No that was a throw Come on Yeah A wide ball Yeah Yeah They seem to be absolutely loving it Whoa So while Toby stays in the cricket whites I’m off to learn about the motivations behind cricket day
Michelle Yes
It’s very psychedelic and cool to be a cricket obsessive Tell us about how you came up with it
This is our third time that we’ve had this day at the ballpark and we thought it was a great opportunity for new Canadians to be able to come to our ballpark We think of cricket and baseball like batten ball cousins sporting cousins if you will Tell us about what’s going on in the concourses and stuff We have a lot of great activations So we’ve worked with Qriket Canada who’s been an incredible partner They’ve provided us with some great memorabilia We also have some athletes from the men’s and women’s national team here today that you’ll be able to meet and get a photo with
And if you happen to see um a guy wandering around in cricket whites and pads
ignore him He’s got the wrong end of a stick Um he expected there was cricket actually happening which there isn’t but we’re going to do our best
Thank you so much for coming We’re so happy that you all came to take in cricket day at the park but also hopefully you’re staying to enjoy the game later As I’m bowling some lovely Luffy stuff to Toby in the cages Blue Jay’s mascot Ace joins us for a few balls too He bow good area to Toby and he nicks him off here Safe hands All right as if by magic on cricket day at Blue Jays Not only you dressed in whites for no one knows why but I found World Cup winner Liam Plunkett Yes Liam How’s it been like last few years
no it’s very exciting Obviously cricket’s growing and even being here in Toronto with what’s going on today is fantastic I didn’t really get baseball watching on the TV and to be honest the catches look quite easy because they’ve got a glove and actually watching it
in the flesh last night and a bit today The skill level is incredible much like fielding or fast bowling in cricket
When I look at the fielding side like a cricket there’s there’s often mistakes right everyone’s moving fast and you fumble it and stuff And I think in baseball if you like mess up once or twice that’s a bad day at the office for the team
That’s a huge difference And it’s so well polished right the baseball it feels like everything’s so like
professional like they’re throwing the ball perfect immaculate and then they miss by a slight bit it’s like that’s terrible Where in cricket I think there’s more room for a little margin of error even at the highest level I can hear the commentary now which means the game’s about to start Pleasure to see you man Yeah you cheers Toby having said that you looked maybe not dressed for the park I’ve never seen anyone more popular in a baseball stadium than you Like sping everyone like Elvis is in the building
It’s been a lot of fun cricket day here at Roger Center been running around in full batting kit It’s been fantastic We’ve met loads of cricket fans What a day I think you have to watch a baseball game live to fully appreciate the skill and the talent that it takes to succeed in in this sport It’s just Yeah I’ve had the most amazing time Been pretty surreal today Um but super grateful for the opportunity It’s been fantastic Let’s go meet your people again man and watch some baseball
Let’s do it
Let’s go down to Wormhole Swinging a miss Strike three This 2-1 is hit very high Andy it’s out of here And the Blue Jays lead again They’re up six to five in the third Hits a deep one out to center And Springer has done it again What a finish to an exciting game 8-7 the final score The Blue Jays have taken all of the first three of this four game series
