Chicago Bears Offensive Genius: Ben Johnson has BIG Shoes to FILL

[Music] what’s up guys do the Chicago Bears have the NFL’s next offensive genius our franchise quarterback Caleb Williams is excited about this coaching staff i talked earlier about how Caleb spoke to the media recently at Fanatics Fest that’s where he joked around with CJ Strad but during that event he was asked about this season and his excitement for this coaching staff and Caleb seemed to light up when talking about the new coaches he said he loves Ben Johnson and on top of that people around the NFL seem to believe that the Bears might have hired the NFL’s next offensiveminded genius at head coach today I wanted to discuss these stories let’s go ahead and get right into it first I wanted to talk about Caleb being excited for this new coaching staff i mean who can blame him after the debacle that was the Eber Floose Waldron show in 2024 it doesn’t take much to think the Bears should have a better staff in 2025 however things aren’t just better i believe we have the best looking staff we’ve had on paper in decades the Bears coaching staff has more talent and knowledge than any other time in recent Bears history ben Johnson is potentially next up in the NFL’s list of guys that go from offensive coordinator to head coach the NFL’s offensiveminded gurus that seem to be taking over the league the NFL has always had these offensive geniuses coaching at some of the best teams in the NFL guys like Bill Walsh Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan changed the league with their innovative and creative offenses but today’s NFL is only further advanced what offenses are able to do revolutionized by Andy Reid and Shawn McVey among others some of the NFL’s most successful head coaches have been offensive gurus i won’t go back too far but just looking at the NFL recently especially with the game now shifting towards more emphasis on scoring and big plays on offense new rules over the last 15 years have made it even harder to play defense and allow more opportunities to score as an offense the NFL’s best right now is clearly Andy Reid but other big-time play callers remain shawn McVey and Shawn Payeyton are the next best in the league but Kyle Shanahan despite his failures in the big game is still one of the best as well a lot of people around the league believe that Ben Johnson can become the NFL’s next offensiveminded genius and have success as a head coach it will not be easy and he has a lot of competition around the NFL as well as there are a lot of offensive-minded play callers taking head coaching jobs even Nick Serriani who just won a Super Bowl with the Eagles but you also have younger guys who just got jobs as well even in the NFC North alone you have Kevin O’Connell and Matt Lafleur both who have had success and are establishing themselves as two of the better play callers in the league but other young coaches like Zack Taylor have already tasted a Super Bowl ben Johnson’s path to becoming one of the NFL’s best is far from being a sure thing but there is real reason for optimism and plenty of evidence here supporting my belief that Ben Johnson can continue to be one of the best play callers in the league while establishing himself as a serious head coach not only has Ben Johnson had success already in the NFL as a play caller but the path he’s taken to become an NFL head coach seems like he’s doing it the right way he made connections around the league and when he was putting this staff together he challenged himself he didn’t just bring in yes men and guys that would agree with him he brought in guys that have had success in different systems around the league and guys that will challenge him and make him a better head coach dennis Allen is a key example of that but so are guys like Eric Benemy Antoine Randall L and even Al Harris these are guys that are going to make Ben Johnson better as a head coach but one of the final narratives I want to touch on while I’m on this topic here are the Matt Naggie comparisons listen I know a lot of fans are reluctant to buy into the Ben Johnson hype because of Matt Naggie and some other failed offensive coaching experiments such as Mark Tresman but look Ben Johnson is nothing like Matt Naggie or any of the other guys who came before him ben Johnson has actually been calling plays in the NFL and having a ton of success doing it leading one of the most successful offenses the last three seasons in the NFL meanwhile a guy like Matt Naggie he had never called plays in his life before the Bears hired him as head coach but Ben Johnson’s not only been calling plays he’s been leading the most exciting and one of the most creative offenses in the entire NFL no other play caller in the league Andy Reid included has had a top three offense in each of the last three seasons only Ben Johnson in Detroit has accomplished that feat so the hype there is real he’s had real success and he seems to have put together an incredible coaching staff around him and he understands the challenge that’s going to be presented to him being a head coach of the Chicago Bears but on paper things seem set up perfectly for Ben Johnson to have a ton of success even early on in Chicago he is the right man for the job and he is the guy that I wanted to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears and now after hiring Ben Johnson after the NFL draft fixing the offensive line and everything else that has come together this off season there is legit reason for optimism for the Chicago Bears as early as 2025 and things really are different my expectations alone have risen and I expect this team to compete for the NFC North this year it doesn’t mean things will be easy or that this team is just going to walk away with the division title but I expect them to be in competition for it as long as we can stay relatively healthy knocking on wood this team should be much better than what we’ve seen the last five plus years at the very least now look there has been a lot of movement this off season especially in the trenches where there should be at least five new starters potentially six or more and then we have an entire new coaching staff and they brought in guys with a history of developing young talent on paper the Chicago Bears are ready to compete and we should finally see the fruits of Ryan Paul’s rebuild come to life my biggest question is how long will it take for these guys to gel i for one cannot wait for training camp to start we’re just a couple of weeks away and I have some special content coming to keep you guys busy during this long off
