just about set to go now our starting pitcher in this one Noah Cameron and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots i’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure he’s more calm and settles in he’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the dugout

first pitch 710 right side hard hit gets it to first and an easy out to start the game time now for Dave Roberts lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers and down towards the bottom of the lineup hitting eighth here Maxy well these days we know teams you know they put a game plan together for every hitter in a lineup but a guy like this they circle him make sure he doesn’t beat you uh so you know they put in a little extra time and effort and on how they’re going to approach him he can be a huge difference maker when he’s hot so it’s going to be fun to see how they try to work him right here and that one fouled off cameron goes 6 f’ 3 in 220 lbs and he was drafted in the seventh round in 2021 swinging a ground ball

well you can see his whip is a little above the league average not bad but I think in this one he’s going to need to control that a little bit better try to limit hitters from getting on base stay in that windup instead of the stretch and when he does allow base runners be able to throw a pitch he’s going to get a swing and miss get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball let’s go Jonathan turned on but that’s foul down the third baseline just missed that one fouled off two and two may fires gets a piece and stays alive cuts and misses it’s a strike out
he’s really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled
now here’s Bobby Wit Jr he’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors there’s a strike
whit Jr is one of only two players in ALL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons boo the other player Julio Rodriguez next offering is in for a strike
well as a hitter you’re hoping that the command on that sinker doesn’t come until later in the ball game but if that’s how it’s going to be all day it’s going to be a tough one for the offense
the shorts stop takes the ball one out base is empty hit on the ground to short and it’s through for a hit still able to come through behind in the count right there he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first
and now Mikel Garcia foul ball there and that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and two definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter when you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball if he can get in that location boy you’ve got to look top to bottom and that’s going to make it very difficult to hit this is a great dynamic right here speedy runner at first thinking about taking second catcher with the pop time that leaves jaws on the floor this might get interesting boo got him looking that’s a strike out and next up for the Royals Vinnie Pasquantino ino and first offering is fouled off whit off of first with two away vinny next offering is down low may over to first royals that one finds the corner and that’s strike two swing and a miss and he struck him out that K is his third of the game so one left for Kansas City scoreless after one and welcome back to the ballpark all set for the start of the inning and now it’s going to be Freddy Freeman
obviously a guy who makes good contact hits for average but one of the things in today’s game the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties that catches the top part of the zone going on they’re so reliant on the matchups nowadays Chris and it’s huge when you don’t have to sit a guy or platoon him
when you can hit you know both sides in terms of pitchers arms you’re a guy that it’s hard to take out of the lineup and I think it’s very important today when everything is under the microscope very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way boog he’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel
yep foul we’ll see another payoff pitch hard hit to third the throw to first and quickly one away in the second batting fifth catcher Will Smith
the batter now will be Will Smith what a season it’s been for him he has supplied a lot of power and that average right through there for a strike cameron he has a reputation I don’t know maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in you know you like that in a relief pitcher but when you have it for a starting pitcher a guy that can get out of a tight spot that is pretty valuable and you won’t see the skipper rush to get somebody up in the bullpen as soon as he starts to see some signs of trouble this guy’s earned a longer leash and because of that confidence grows with the players and teammates playing behind him that when things get a little rough out there they know he’ll find his way through it
here’s the center fielder Andy Pahes and that’s in for a strike and it’s 0 and one how much of the ability to do that in a tight spot is the mental approach i think it’s very much being able to have a laser-like focus slow everything down stay right in that moment pitchto pitch execution and focusing on that catcher’s mid swing and a miss and a change up in the dirt up with it fires to first that completes the strikeout inning over we’ll go to the bottom of the second no score and we’re back bottom of the inning now it’s the DH salvador

Jack Kagleon now at the plate come on Kansas City let’s go let’s go royals that’s a bullet but it goes foul no score here in the second just missed boo he never moved cuz he never had time to with that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away and there’s a ball first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no panic at all by the hitter very patient showing good discipline now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count headed towards the corner they had a foul ball and down on strikes he’s notched four strikeouts now so up next John Ra ball one no strikes two outs hit in the air left field pah sizes this one up nabs it and that’s the third out we’ll move to the third with no score back here in Kansas City here’s the second base Tommy Edmond tommy Edmond that misses ball one just missed next offering is fouled back fouled off and they’ll do it again i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with the fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up
and that skips in the dirt here comes a 3-2 downstairs and it misses ball four and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game what a battle it’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what he earned that walk muny digs in and a first pitch fast is in for a strike one thing with Max Muny and it’ll be interesting to see what he throws here he hammers the fastball edmund gets his lead at first nobody out kansas City that one finds the corner that is strike two he’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in that one missed
well that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch bows it back with two strikes battling here as he fouls it away and the one two misses to even the count ninth pitch of the at bat do next on the ground of first could be two wide throw and it gets away edmond around second he beats the throw and now they have runners at the corners here’s Kik Hernandez i’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year and that’s in the dirt way to lay off that pitch down that’s down and in

Isbel leadoff man on it’s time to play a little small ball get some base runners try to dig yourself out of the hole way high there one and0 ruer at first with no outs here on the inside corner for a strike breaking ball misses down and away comes up empty that’s strike two let’s go there’s a swing and a drive back there see you later he sends it out of here it’s 3-2 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer
and you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat he’s that confident it’s like he’s playing whiffle ball up there and that’s typically not the easiest way to hit a home run to the slight opposite field into the gap man making it look easy that’s for sure jonathan Indie at the plate struck out swinging his first time that one’s in there 0 and one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters and misses inside and that misses three and one now swings and blasts one deep to left center that’s back there gone they do it again back-to- back homers and this game is tied it’s 33 wow what a clutch swing right there and now anything can happen in this game back-to-back homers always a special feeling at the ballpark especially if it’s your team that does it and those guys get to slap hands at home plate this is the kind of thing that can really fire up a ball club so it’s all tied up thanks to the home run here’s the shortstop at the plate bobby Wit Jr one for one with a single so far right through there for a strike that breaking ball drops in for a strike oh this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes even a good pitch early in the at bat if he’s not ready to pull the trigger he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count line drive caught not fooled at all right there he was clearly all over it but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone you’re looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knock sometimes
so up now for Kansas City Mike El Garcia swinging a foul straight back
a healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a really good pass at the ball may delivers line drive and that should be extra bases now he’ll turn it for second not stopping he’s going for three the relay throw throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe
he was all over that one pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap and I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle so many positives that led to that knock one down runner at third and to the play for Kansas City Vinnie Pasquantino went down on strikes his first time through that just misses and that’s ball one and that one fouled off
i think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield and that one hit 97 on the gun ground ball up the middle oh great stop to first run scores but a terrific play to get the out that was an impressive diving stop singy let’s dive into the numbers statcast the symbol yeah Boo a really good effort just to get his glove to the ball he found a way to do it and just produce a strong throw as well so that right there is a great play all the way around just really smooth
and now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate 0 for one with a fly out to center and that’s a little bit high ball one well they’ve been able to score four runs off of him in this inning and this is where you want to just max out get as much as you can give him one of those tough innings where it’s going to be hard for him to recover in the next one and a foul ball in the air right field and that is a foul ball four runs already in the frame here in the last half of the third in the air left field down the line drops for a hit he couldn’t run it down and that’s a double well he found himself behind in the count right there but he didn’t give in put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases so runner at second two down and next up for the Royals Jack Kagleon that misses the zone and that’s ball one inside just missed
oh he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout right through there for a strike
perez at second with two down swings and misses and the count is even two and two swing and a miss struck him out he picks up his fifth strike out on the hill but two round trippers in this inning the long ball was working it’s now a 43 ball game you’re dialed into the show as we go to the top of the fourth and here’s the first baseman Freddy Freeman freeman over 1,000 runs batted in in his career and he was a second round pick back in 2007 one-1 check swing appeal down to third no swing he held up carl Dixon with the call there fouls one off two and two smoked into left base hit now batting
showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn’t get jumpy didn’t try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit will Smith to the plate struck out swinging his first time there’s the strike that one is absolutely belted one hops off the wall should be extra bases here comes Freddy around third he’ll score it’s 4-4 well there you go the RBI machine another clutch runscoring at bat
yeah he’s been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself so digging in Andy Pahes 0 for one so far check swing he went too far and it’s a strike hitter’s got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit lifted in the air out to left

it’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed
activity in the Kansas City bullpen michael Laorenzan up and throwing clark getting loose as well that one ripped left field that’s back there and it’s gone home run an absolute smash to left just like that they move in front it’s 64 boo his plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later you can’t argue with those results when you’re working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast ball
here’s Max Muny that funky Muny and first off is fouled off ball one there
clearly he hasn’t had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen
still only one out here in the inning the one-1 is fouled off fly ball down the line this has got a chance and it is foul
well that ball is hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound you execute it just a long strike you go after him and finish him off and that one is downstairs and that’s ball two and there’s a ball fouled off again and it remains three and two
well he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact knocks that one away and we’ll do it again on the ground right side and it goes just foul foul ball and it remains a full cow already three runs across in the frame top half of inning number four and they’ll do it again and the funky Muny is stifled by the strikeout
this guy will throw any pitch in any count 3-2 he goes off speed gets the out

Ray well after putting up a nice inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don’t give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they’re hot well these Royals showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one pitch count is pretty high and they’ve plated four runs already so I think it’s safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now goes down looking well he went up there trying to be aggressive that’s for sure hacking at those first two pitches but clearly that last one fooled him he could have been sitting on something else entirely but you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone maybe choke up maybe spread out your stance a little bit you got to give the guy credit on the mound though he went right after him
now Freddy Fine swings through that one for strike one so they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they’ve been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that bullpin phone is working today may come set fouled off he was late
oh I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line muny sends it to first and a couple of quick outs good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out

still pretty early in the ball game so this bullpen has some work ahead of him best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him and now here’s the Dodgers designated hitter Miguel Rohos

yeah his swing is so good it’s in the zone a long time he gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits when you look at the elite teams in the game right now there is going to be the slug no question about it but the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss two down base is empty

50 might not sound like a huge number but it’s a nice little milestone that a lot of guys don’t get to a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it
