I’m good with this. His value will increase come the trade deadline and we can get more for him.
We need him as 2C at least until the deadline. Ritchie isn’t ready for the position and I don’t think splitting up Barzal & Horvat to send one to the second line is a good idea.
He’ll get a much larger return at the deadline. And until they see if Ritchie is ready, you don’t want to move a center off the top 9.
The biggest thing this means is that Barzal is probably staying on the wing with Pageau at 2C
Trading Pageau now means you’re essentially stuck with using both Cizikas and Maclean as centers with Richie playing top 6 minutes and we all know this management team isn’t stupid enough to ruin a kids development with that. There’s also not enough high end talent to split up the Barvat duo.
That probably kills Ehlers, especially with the Romanov deal close. Still probably a good idea, however
Pager plays a huge role on this team. Scoring isn’t everything
With the insane assets we’ve gotten over the last week, I think we can afford to hold onto Pageau. Even if we don’t trade him and instead re-sign him, I’m ok with that as long as we help the kids grow
