well anytime you can keep your ERA under three you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well and he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound and every time he gets the ball you expect him to go out there and dominate and that’s what he’s been to this point we’ll see how he is today
cj Abrams leading things off and takes a strike popped up foul territory behind the plate pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s one down as we take a look at the Nationals lineup a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of runners on base couldn’t cash in their chances chris they had plenty of chances there’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor job converting in those situations you have to figure out what’s your plan going to be maybe watch some tape from the last game make the adjustments so if you get those opportunities in this one you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs
throws to second the tag out got to love the hustle and the attitude there to try to stretch that single into a double but unfortunately thrown out at second base he was so close to being in scoring position and now it’s Luis Garcia and the first pitch misses for ball one outside with a breaking ball [Music] [Applause] in the air fairly deep to right field we sizes this one up he’s got it and that is out number three onto the bottom of the first no score back here with my pal Singi today’s starting pitcher McKenzie Gore what do we have on him
well coming into this game hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher so it just shows you how effective he’s been he’s been able to move his pitches around add and subtract change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball we’ll see what he’s got this one and now the first baseman Nolan Shaw

they made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine that’s the one thing about big leaguers they make tough plays look simple and now batting Mike Trout that one finds the zone strike one crowd in his 14th season hitting third in the lineup he’s usually in right field but today he’s getting the DH treatment well a nice day off for him not having to jog out to the outfield gets to be in the DH spot be curious to see how he keeps himself in a rhythm not playing defense next offering is down low

well the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep in the counts doesn’t have a ton of swinging missed stuff so he’s going to have to work efficiently our umpire for this one Freddy Ferguson a consistent umpire by all accounts
yeah I think the book on him is that he’s not necessarily by the book with his strikes on but once you figure out where he’s calling strikes you can pretty much count on him to stay with that throughout the game
yeah i mean he’s a guy that has a reputation for being fergicious
yes and you know whatever fergalicious brings it in and there’s one away brady House digging in for the Nationals and that one lifted in the air center field adele moves under it and puts the squeeze on that one out number two batting six left fieldielder

Wade Pal Jr that one finds the zone and that is strike one just missed [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] in the air left field down the line and that drops foul that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was that one backed up the middle and it gets through so runner aboard to start the inning well that certainly feels good when you can win the atbat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there i know that was a ground ball but it was absolutely hammered through the infield that’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder you know they used to say charge it crazy and now Luis Rangifo and the first pitch misses for ball one two and0

the 361 double play in my opinion one of the toughest plays to make you’ve got a pitcher covering first and the middle infielder throwing to a moving target everything has to be perfect and right there they made it look pretty easy so the go-ahead run in scoring position nolan Showell getting ready to hit this to third lays out oh it’s off his glove he makes the throw but it’s not in time and they don’t get an out on the play well that’s a frustrating way to fall behind in this one as the infield single drives in the run and sometimes all you have to do is put the ball in play and you give your teammate a chance to hurry home two outs runner on first now a chance for Christian Moore and that is cut on and missed and that’s strike one

just missed some guys don’t like not being able to play defense because it helps him to stay in the rhythm so for him to be the DH we’ll see if he gets a routine together foul ball there not close with that one and now three and one
expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball something in the zone because he does not want to allow the lead off wall the 3-1 swang and a miss there’s that change up that one misses

that could jump start an offense that’s really struggling to score in this one don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass
and now up for Washington luis Garcia flyed to right his first time that one’s in there that’s strike one [Applause] and ball one tying run is at first top half of inning number four and that one fouled off with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base is trying to stay out of the double play right here [Applause] they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away man oh man i don’t know how you take that pitch that’s as close as it gets
it misses it’s a strike out here’s the thing lo he popped out his first time you know
this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher and what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head here’s the pitch runner goes that’s in for a strike tag Darnell great throw now I got to admit I’m kind of shocked he got caught stealing right there because of how big the lead was over at first base catcher doesn’t throw very well either but for whatever reasons things came together and they got the out at second really impressive job I’d say the one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike
the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch

clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fault him for his commitment now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes off the mark there two balls two strikes [Music] and that’s outside foul we’ll see another payoff pitch two down to and they’ll do it again breaking ball in there got him looking and good work there as he gets a one two three nothing doing for Washington they still trail one- nothing and we’re back ready to go bottom four here’s Trout
he is quite an athlete i mean you look around the other sports basketball football you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports too little chopper rolls foul you know these Angels doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him he’s only giving up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense waves at the bender for the strike out well I don’t think there’s a hitter alive that hasn’t at some point succumb to that pitch right there it just looks like it’s in the zone the entire way and then the top spin and gravity take over in the blink of an eye and it’s just such a tough pitch to lay off of and next will be the cleanup hitter Taylor Ward 0 for one with a fly out to center and the first pitch misses for ball one you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today base is empty one away we’re here in the bottom of the fourth highf fly ball on that one curling foul down the right side i want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good vo next offering is downstairs misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike swinging a foul straight back one down base is empty

Joe Adell digs in now went down on strikes his first time through looks like the weather could actually play a factor in this one it’s coming down pretty good
yeah it is and it’s not too bad yet but the field’s not going to be able to hold up if the rain gets any worse than this so keep an eye on the pitcher mound as well and the rest of the infield start to puddle up a little bit well clearly he was ready to hit right there just kept it simple played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there’s just no one there to knock it down and now they’ve got some speed on first so we’ll see if they try to get him into motion
travis Darno will come up to hit he’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball

you know these Nationals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one they’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for him so far zero extra base hits in the game so it’s been tough for him to get anything going misses now one and two
sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there here comes a pitch
chases that one out of the zone looks like he’s picked up right where he left off he just ran out of patience there he took a couple of pitches to even that count off two balls and two strikes but that time chased outside the zone call batting with one down takes a strike
the Angels up by a run and we’re in the top of the fifth swings and hits one in the air out towards right field and it drops in that’s back to back singles for him pitch was in and off the plate so hard to do anything with a pitch in that location but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well pretty amazing one down and now the right fielder Denon Lyle ru takes off pitch misses

tag save stolen base it’s Darno too late with a throw and the tying run is now in scoring position here’s what I think the manager is thinking right now today we’re not driving the ball it’s hard to get extra base hits we’ve got to make something happen to get a runner into scoring position that’s stolen base excellent call now all it takes is perhaps a single to put a run on the board and that misses now two and 0 and it’s fouled off two and one now ground ball left side and two away now well there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there nice job of the pitcher to bear down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work

well he got challenged with a good fast ball right there just couldn’t catch up spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another
well he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact
swinging a miss struck him out so he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game one in the inning for the Nationals on the solo homer hall even now at 1-1 you’re dialed into the show back in Anaheim bottom of the sixth inning and here’s the first baseman Nolan Showell shadow that one missing inside
you know these Angels as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate they’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments they’ve been fooled quite a bit today the one-1 is fouled off [Applause] [Music] [Applause] got him looking that’s his ninth strike out so far well just excellent location on that inside fast ball really locked him up and it’s a hitter it’s not typically what you’re looking for you’re trying to protect away and then in so you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called the ball but either way that’s a really nice pitch moore in the box again takes the strike was good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout next offering is fouled back all tied up here in the bottom of the sixth fast ball is outside didn’t get the result he wanted but that’s a nice pitch right there and a swing of miss and that K brings him into double digits for the game tasked with one two and three to start this inning but no trouble so far i’m sure he to strike out the side here make a little statement but you got to be composed in this spot focus on getting this next guy you got two good outs want to get the third one and avoid the middle of that lineup coming up with a base runner could become dangerous
trout in the box now as he leaves that one up high you can expect this hitter to be looking for something on a te he can get up in the air and untie this ball game just missed
struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at 2 and 0

this game has been so tight feels like the next team to score will win it here’s a two-1 and he grounds one back up the middle over to Low angels retired one two three angels go quietly there score remains deadlocked at one so the Angels turn to their bullpen for a new pitcher Hector Nerys he last pitched two days ago number 54 Hector [Applause] now it’s the Nationals cleanup hitter Nathaniel Low Nathaniel Low hector that one ripped but foul nerys measures 6’2 in 225 lbs and he was born in the Dominican Republic yan just missed meanwhile activity in the bullpen hunter Strickland getting ready to go ball two in one on a line base hit man aboard on the leadoff single couldn’t have timed it up any better than that pretty good spot hard and inside but that’s a perfect example of keeping your hands inside the ball tight to the body the ability to take that back up the middle shows his approach is to use the entire field stepping in Brady House rolled softly but that goes foul the go-ahead run aboard at first nobody out and fouled off [Applause] [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss strike him out and that’s the first out first strike out for him in this one that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that he throws it quite a bit and that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter next to hit for the Nets Alex Call he’s two for two [Applause] swinging a foul out of play one away tie game go ahead run stands at first and that is out of play gets under and pops it up moore he’s got it and there are two outs now it’s the right fielder Dalon Lyall [Music] outside low and it’s one and0 [Music] [Applause] swing and it miss ugly swing right there two on the possible go ahead run at first [Applause] next pitch misses inside now two and two two outs swings through that one it’s a strike out nationals leave one still tied 1-1 [Music] [Applause] now pitching

and it just misses holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning swings through that one one and one swam and a miss there’s that change up man he really sells the change up with that arm action no no signs of wavering on the mound here in the eighth he’s looking rock solid so far just misses the mark outside the zone that’s where you want it it’s a good miss swings and misses and he strikes out the side for the second time today impeccable command in that one three batters three strikeouts that’s electric stuff out there on the mound now pitching for they

oh he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss he’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of illusion at the end
