Shams Charania:
Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. intends to sign a five-year, $122 million rookie contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Rockets officials and Smith's agent, Wallace Prather of LIFT Sports Management, negotiated the fully guaranteed deal through 2030-31 season.

They can’t keep getting away with this!

This might be my favorite Rockets offseason ever!
(I did not see the 2017-2018’s level of play coming before it happened)
The rockets are set man
I think I’ve lost track of the CBA cus every new contract looking reasonable rn lol
good deal, the man has huge balls
Maybe this means we won’t park him in the corner anymore? More touches for Jabari please, his midrange needs to be unleashed.
Whoa
This’ll be one of the best contracts in the league soon

Like 24 per year, could be a steal. Really excited to see him work with KD now
Wow so he gotta start
If he keeps developing over the next couple years this contract will become an absolute steal
Good for him. Surprised he got that much, based on how the media has covered this possible extension.
Good deal for both sides honestly. Rockets keep a useful player at a reasonable AAV, Jabari still gets the bag even if it’s not the max
I’m surprised this got done so early, I thought this one would go down to the wire like the Sengun and Green extensions. Interested to see what the Tari number looks like
That’s solid for Houston. Even if he doesn’t improve radically or ends up not being in their long-term plans with his skill set on that yearly money, that’s a really easy contract get off of if they need to. Big win
Nice for them to lock him down, it does feel more like paying for potential than production though
25 per isnt even starter money
I love how there is a “steal” and an “overpay” comment right next to each other.
Şengün contract is very team friendly
This is a solid deal. As of day 1, probably a slight overpay, but I think Jabari will progress and be very worth it by the end. Also, a good trade contract as hes very young and 24ish is good money.
Cherry picked stat from stat muse
Jabari Smith Jr. as a Rocket:
— 13.0 PPG
— 7.5 RPG
— 1.7 3PG
Joins Luka and Lauri as the only players with those averages in their first three seasons.
25m a year for him seems like a steal?
Rockets gonna be cooking next year. Pretty excited to see kd in that system
Rafael Stone is a fantastic GM.
That could end up being one of the better contracts in the nba in 2 years (for the team)
Seems like a fair deal that obviously takes into account that Jabari still has some possible upside.
Rockets will reach deep in the playoffs next season.
Wow what a bargain
The post James harden rockets rebuild went about as perfect as it could. Hit on picks, brought in a good no nonsense coach, got some vets and boom. Going from no man’s land to contenders in 6 years. Not easy to do when you look around the league
24.4M/year for 5 years? Great deal for Jabari at age 22. Knowing Stone, there’s probably a lot of incentives in that contract so it’s likely less than that. I assume Eason will get around 18M/year.
Jabari under KD’s tutelage gonna be a problem
Progression isn’t linear, and he’s only 22. His shot mechanics are too good and has too much defensive potential to not at least be a decent playoff starter
Absolute steal. Wow, Stone is building something amazing there.
I watched the HOU-GSW series closely and thought Jabari should have gotten a *lot* more run. This is a nice deal for Houston.
But it seems as if Ime does not like Jabari, which could be concerning.
This feels a little light, good for Houston
nobody watches this dude play clearly lol this is a completely reasonable contract
Discount City. Now taris deal, 5 years 90m i hope.
22M to lock up the prime of a 22yr old that is good on defense and can hit a corner 3 is a good deal these days. Good job by the Rockets FO
Poor mans Rashard Lewis getting paid
I bet they believe getting KD on this team will help his development
Fantastic deal for the rockets IMO
This could be a huge steal for the rockets down the road. This feels like when the Celtics extended brown to a big contract in 2018 and it seemed like an overpay, but the Celtics were banking on him making that next step. When he did , the contract was a steal. It could be with the recent trades and contract, the rockets are expecting Jabari to make that leap.
