Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. intends to sign a five-year, $122 million rookie contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Rockets officials and Smith's agent, Wallace Prather of LIFT Sports Management, negotiated the fully guaranteed deal through 2030-31 season.

  17. That’s solid for Houston. Even if he doesn’t improve radically or ends up not being in their long-term plans with his skill set on that yearly money, that’s a really easy contract get off of if they need to. Big win

  22. This is a solid deal. As of day 1, probably a slight overpay, but I think Jabari will progress and be very worth it by the end. Also, a good trade contract as hes very young and 24ish is good money.

  31. The post James harden rockets rebuild went about as perfect as it could. Hit on picks, brought in a good no nonsense coach, got some vets and boom. Going from no man’s land to contenders in 6 years. Not easy to do when you look around the league

  32. 24.4M/year for 5 years? Great deal for Jabari at age 22. Knowing Stone, there’s probably a lot of incentives in that contract so it’s likely less than that. I assume Eason will get around 18M/year.

  34. Progression isn’t linear, and he’s only 22. His shot mechanics are too good and has too much defensive potential to not at least be a decent playoff starter

  36. I watched the HOU-GSW series closely and thought Jabari should have gotten a *lot* more run. This is a nice deal for Houston.

    But it seems as if Ime does not like Jabari, which could be concerning.

  40. 22M to lock up the prime of a 22yr old that is good on defense and can hit a corner 3 is a good deal these days. Good job by the Rockets FO

  44. This could be a huge steal for the rockets down the road. This feels like when the Celtics extended brown to a big contract in 2018 and it seemed like an overpay, but the Celtics were banking on him making that next step. When he did , the contract was a steal. It could be with the recent trades and contract, the rockets are expecting Jabari to make that leap.
