How Today’s BLOCKBUSTER NFL Trade Impacts The Dallas Cowboys

a random day in June has turned into a wild one in the NFL the Steelers and Dolphins completing a blockbuster trade moments ago headlined by Minka Fitzpatrick some draft picks for Jaylen Ramsay and John Smith we’ll break it down in particular how it impacts the Cowboys as they get set up for their 2025 season before we get into that we are in a like battle the final day of the like battle against the 49ers report we were down about a thousand yesterday now we’re up about a thousand help us out keep it going like the video for me on today’s show so these are or this is I should say the blockbuster trade details jaylen Ramsay the cornerback Jonnu Smith the tight end a 2027th round pick so next year’s draft not the upcoming one the Dolphins are getting back Minka Fitzpatrick and they’re getting a 2027 fifth round pick initially this was Jaylen Ramsay’s going to the Steelers then it was it’s a pick swap it’s a trade swap minka and Ramsay for each other and then Jadu Smith got put into the fold in the reporting and these are the full details though it was kind of just Jayen with Pittsburgh then it was Jaylen For then it was Johnu separately then it was all together so just a a wild morning in the NFL a very NBA style trade uh on the day NBA free agency opens up this is how the Jaylen Ramsay trade impacts the Cowboys the obvious one is this he’s not going to be a member of the Cowboys organization i never really thought the Dallas Cowboys were going to be in on the Jaylen Ramsay trade sweep stakes he was already too expensive that was mostly from a monetary perspective what is noteworthy to me is somehow Jaylen Ramsay got a raise out of this i don’t really know how he pulled that off uh I I think credit hustle to him that was got an extra million and a half i essentially I think guaranteed some incentives i also think the Minka Fitzpatrick element of this is insane now the Cowboys years ago did have interest in a Minka Fitzpatrick trade but their offer never got close to what Pittsburgh gave up to get uh Minka at that time that part was was crazy for me so that that even being involved was was wildly unexpected dallas obviously was not going to go pursue a Minka Fitzpatrick trade i think he was really only available in the Jaylen Ramsey trade anyway also takes them out of the John Smith running which they were never in anyway he also got one year $2 million you weren’t trading for either of those guys you You weren’t going to go get Minka you weren’t going to go get John U Smith at one year 12 tacked on that was way too expensive and you weren’t going to get Ramsay anyway because he was just never going to be in the cards at his cost which now went up somehow so give me your oneword reaction to the Jaylen Ramsay for Minka Fitzpatrick trade one word and one word only uh my reaction was literally the meme of the guy going like this or just that like I I freaked out one-word reaction mine was wow maybe an explet would have mixed in there too don’t put that in the comments though youtube might get mad at you let me know at the pin comments of today’s show so now what and you know Jaylen Ramsay off the board i do wonder looking ahead if the quarterback market could start to move a little bit more it’s crystallized some teams that may or may not have been in on Ramsey now have some clarity at this time i would like to go get another corner i would like to find a veteran to help fill the stop gap that I very well might end up needing especially early on this season i believe in Don Blaine is a good player i think he’s going to be awesome ka Elum he is awesome I should say elum you know we’ll talk about him later this week espn mentioning him as a surprise i I don’t want to bank on just Elum if Diggs is not going to be healthy for week one when Rebel A is healthy and B back up to like full like normal level plus he’s a third round pick as a rookie there’s probably going to be some ups and downs there the depth is Caleb Carson every time Mukwamu plays he plays well but like it’s a little bit dicey andrew Booth Troy Pride they brought in Robert Rashelle who like doesn’t move the needle for me at all i don’t know what they’re going to do so I I would like to go find a veteran now there are many teams I think that could be in the market for a corner the Carolina Panthers have been kind of linked to Jaylen Ramsay obviously us the Green Bay Packers I still think could use somebody after the Jer Alexander release but we’ll see if they go down that route they seem to be going cheap at that position the Raiders had been linked the Rams had been linked both those teams especially Las Vegas could use a corner the Chargers are a low-key sneaky corner need team miami needed one before they flipped away Jaylen Ramsay i I would not be surprised if they went out and got somebody and Minnesota had been linked there was eight teams and as we we’ll get into I don’t think there are eight teams or eight good corners available in the open market before we dive into that the Fourth of July gear for the Cowboys is available and has been on sale in recent days as well so if you haven’t already go there he can I think still be a stop gap starter gilmore’s 35 years old i think he knows at this point he’s not going to get a big contract he’s not going to be an elite level starter he’s not going to be counted on to play every single snap me a team’s locked down number one guy that’s not who he is anymore but he’s still serviceable and of the guys who were out there I kind of think there are the least amount of questions with Gilmore for what the role is what the fit is what the level of play is slash what the medicals are and remember Gilmore wanted to stay last year reportedly he was in Dallas for his nonOTreated visit to the Star okay i think if we get to early July or late July early August and the Cowboys go “Yeah we need one more corner.” If Gilmore is out there I would bet he’s there’s no need for the think there mike Hilton stands out as the best available nickel corner option of note for Hilton the Bengals kind of benched him at times and on third downs which is a huge red flag for a nickel corner but if they want to put Bland on the outside which I’m not as confident that they do given the way OTAAS and mini camp went did a whole video on Mike Hilton a whole video on Gilmore essentially i I think he makes sense as like a run stopping nickel focus which you could actually benefit from so Hilton is on there rousul Douglas I fully expect he ends up signing somewhere at or around training camp i I know the uh you know the Texans have had some injuries there’ve been some speculation there i kind of don’t buy it um he’s kind of marked off the Eagles and D go back to to to Green Bay had a visit with Seattle some other teams seattle went out and got Shaq Griffin only 30 years old i think he wants a chance to start an entire season though he might be a great fit for like a Miami or somewhere where there’s more guaranteed playing time asante Samuel is kind of the wild card right now because I don’t know how the medical checks out he had neck surgery earlier this off season that’s a red flag anytime you go get neck surgery that’s like oh boy that’s not good like come on that’s a very bad sign he only played four games last year dealt with some stinger issues seems like that’s kind of been a lingering problem for him and the neck surgery in theory is going to fix it but honestly outside of like Hyron Smith uh there are very few players that like get neck or back surgery and then get better or like stay the same like there there’s it’s normally kind of the beginning of the end so medical’s got to be vetted there but he’d be a fun fit if the Cowboys can get over their arm length stuff so predictions will the Cowboys end up adding a corner one for yes zero for no some other names I I’ll mention i don’t I don’t love him it’s just like you got to get somebody in there types jack Jones is a wild card in more of a bad way than Asante Samuel is when it’s good it’s really good when it’s bad it can be ugly and it can be messy again that’s not something you want at corner because bad and messy at corner uh often times ends up resulting in big-time plays being allowed and that’s that’s never a good thing i do think Kendall Fuller is a good name as like the top alternative option i don’t know if I fully trust him as a starter anymore but I think he can sub in as both an inside and outside piece like if you if you feel good about Savone Revel and Kaire Elum starting but you don’t like Andrew Booth or Izzy or something if you can get Kendall Fuller in to be your number four I actually think that’s a pretty good idea for the Cowboys he also might be looking for more though and then there’s Cam Sutton who was kind of bad last year for Pittsburgh in the nickel he didn’t have his best stuff was suspended for a good portion of the season was not the guy he wasn’t as prime with Pittsburgh the guy that you only got cut out of Detroit because of off the- field stuff i wouldn’t be shocked if they like if he got a chance somewhere but if you’re going nickel I’d rather go Mike Hilton in the end all right name a corner who you want to add could be a guy we didn’t mention you can go try to find a trade uh partner if you want i don’t think a trade is going to happen but let me know in the comments of today’s show
