#DallasCowboys Fish AM LIVE Report: Ripping Micah, Firing Schotty, Killing Sam

breakfast at fish and knees i’m Mike Fischer your trusty trusted reporter this is the fishbowl that is the star training camp coming up and uh one player who sounds more than ready to roll as he makes his comeback off injury get in get on be good bring something of sports intellect to the table i’ve got three items on the fish for breakfast menu this morning and then we’ll let you get on with your day uh happy almost 4th of July by the way uh if you’re in Dallas or anywhere in this grand country of ours as we approach our 249th birthday please remember if you shoot your gun into the air in celebration the bullet comes down somewhere there’s the eight bongs on the wall for those of you who bike let’s start with Sam and our friend Law Nation uh did a really fun interview with Sam Williams and Sam’s talking about the sort of havoc that he’s going to create when he comes back quote from Sam Williams all that new coach new this new that it doesn’t matter i’m fixing to go kill some end of story someone’s going to feel me i’ve been off for what a year they’re going to feel me they’re going to know every game and I believe this i’ve seen some people um Cowboy observers suggest that Sam Williams is somehow expendable well you know they got Micah over there and they got they they brought Dante Fowler back and they drafted easy and No no no you you gather up these kind of guys and you rotate them and if you’ve got enough pass rush defensive ends that you can do other things with Micah now we’re talking so you put Micah in that Mike Zimmer A gap thing and you you line him up at linebacker and you do all the things that he’s capable of doing sam Williams allows some of that um the last time that we saw the Cowboys at mini camp the rookie EZ lined up as a linebacker like he could drop into coverage uh there’s talk now about the idea of Micah Parsons being a standup defensive end slash outside linebacker in different times so Sam Williams is a trickle down weapon the criticism of Sam Williams that we’ve and and we’ve made it many times is twofold one get your head screwed on tighter off the field don’t drive twice the speed limit in my neighborhood young man and two uh understand the ramifications of the risks that you’re taking on the field whether it’s freelancing which I think probably happened or not fully understanding what you’re special teams and all and and the the array of goof ups on special teams just because Sam’s athleticism uh was under bones fossil they they had cut him loose because of athleticism but nobody seemed to tell him exactly what to do fix those things and Sam I believe you i believe you’re going to go kill some bleep i believe that somebody’s going to feel you and I believe that Sam Williams is a contender a contender to start at defensive end young come on Fish he got the speeding ticket young his in the in the one incident that we should all be talking about because people almost died his car looked like it had been pushed into a gigantic trash compactor don’t minimize that people die young he could have died would we be minimizing it then by the way if you think that that Sam getting a speeding ticket that this is just about Sam getting one speeding ticket you’re not really paying attention but I’m I’m rooting for him as a player i’m rooting for him as a person maturity on the field maturity off the field then go kill somebody figuratively item two we talked the other day about our our friend Colin Cowart who we’re going to get to again in a moment and how he’s predicting the firing of Shottenheimimer after one year which flies in the face of everything that we know that they do that’s simply not what they do they being Jerry Jones and now the Joneses they just don’t fire a coach after one year never ever ever not when the coach goes five and 11 not when CO destroys everything not when they don’t they end up not liking the guy never so there’s no precedent for that there’s no reason for Colin to have made that up except to get attention now piling on comes Florio and I I I have to say this about Colin Coward because I know him a little bit i’ve seen the behind the work behind the scenes work that he does that’s why I was so disappointed in that doesn’t fit mcgff I could see it if everything goes south things would have to go so south that it would have to be worse than Dave Campo going five and 11 that’s how south it would have to go vj I didn’t know Colin was desperate for ratings oh yeah it’s FS1 it’s It’s the one that nobody watches george Coward made the statement for attention what’s Florio doing colin at least attempted to offer some wobbly logic now now to Florio and again that what he’s built over 25 years is is really impressive and hard work’s part of it except in math class starting in seventh grade seventh grade math is when I started to realize I’m not as smart as I think I am i fell off a cliff but otherwise I must say brag call me a braggard if you will cuz you will cuz I am i very rarely thought I’m just not smart enough very rare oreo’s work on profalk.com and his reasoning behind the suggestion that Shottenheimimer could is on the hot seat top five hot seat and could get fired after this year and I’m reading this I’m going why he’s got Dave Canales in in Carolina on the list okay I I see that i get that he also by the way previously had Bill Parcels taking over the Buccaneers for Todd BS and then a week later Todd BS got a contract extension i mean he’s just he’s not even close so what’s See but at least give me the give me some logic give me a reason florio writes “The key to knowing about Shottenheimimer’s job security is to know whether and to what extent he has guaranteed money behind after 2025 what are you talking about what do you mean guaranteed money?” Then he says “Shottenheimer came cheap.” How cheap so cheap that there would be no buyout if he’s fired after one year again I I want to be differential to somebody that might know more than I do ma why is everyone saying shotti is going to be one and done make it make sense i can’t collins Collins just throwing feces up against the wall i guess when I read that quote from Florio Florio’s trying to make it sound like he has insight joey aren’t all these coaches contracts guaranteed as far as I know Florio’s making it sound like he’s got a I think it’s a four-year contract that he’s got a four-year contract Shotty but like only the first year is guaranteed that’s unprecedented in modern NFL history that’s not what they do you get a four-year contract if you get fired after one year you are still owed the ensuing three years if you get a new job in the NFL that new salary is minused from what you’re owed dana cheap rings a bell i’m not saying that Shottenheimimer’s salary isn’t lower rung i assume it is pretty sure it is doug it’s hard being a head coach in Dallas they’re talking about you getting fired before you even start and the they are people that don’t know anything it’d be a little different wouldn’t it if Calvin Watkins or Clarence Hill or Todd Archer or Mike Fischer or James Slater was saying “Boy Sha’s on the hot seat this year.” that it’d be a little different if John Bachota said Shotti’s in the hot seat this year i I would write about it as if there was there must be some facts there florio’s facts seem to be based on the idea that Shottenheimer’s got a cheap contract and that will increase the possibility that he’ll get fired when it seems if if you’re accusing Jerry of being cheap it’d be the other way around shottenheimimer’s got a cheap contract let’s keep him around or you can go Sean’s got a cheap contract so firing him would be no big deal because we keep paying him but Florio’s making it sound like if you fire him you don’t have to pay him anymore there’s like a zero chance that that a slightly above zero chance that that’s the arrangement never heard of that before jeremiah I heard 4 million times four years and again that’s that’s that’s cheap affordable whatever you want to call it but that has nothing to do with why he would be fired that would be a reason why he would be hired kenneth Easley Uncle Fish have been a straight dope member for 49 months mainstream media still upset that the Cowboys didn’t score a big flashy name also do you think Solomon Thomas is an underrated addition to our defense i would love it if Solomon Thomas was more than just a Jag but despite his draft pedigree he’s a Jag uh local guy makes good that can help character guy no doubt but in terms of what he’s done in the field it’s never quite happened so you you if you want to try to logic out your way it’s pretzel logic but if you want to try to get there that Shotti fired after one year that then fine go there by saying that somehow construct a way that the Cowboys are going to go two and 15 and the things just this oh my gosh what have we done okay they’re not going two and 15 they’re not going to break precedent and do something they’ve never done before and the idea that Shottenheimer’s only got one year of guaranteed salary is absurd there’s no such thing bleed you know who’s gonna be on the hot seat after this year is Sirani because he’s gonna start 0 and3 wouldn’t that be something serriiani by the way Nick Serriani in Philadelphia just so you know in the Super Bowl era now we’re going back whatever 50 years he’s got the third best winning percentage all time uh we are doing a fish head get together during this season at the Maverick Bar 1616 Hein 16 minutes from anywhere in the Metroplex and a big announcement is coming on Friday so pri Friday prize day and your prize might be an invitation to the big party young that’s interesting for the first time in forever maybe all the pressure won’t be on all the media the stupid media pressure won’t be on deck right because Shotti is getting fired apparently [Laughter] and item three and back to Colin the Micah Parsons all kinds of malarkey and mythology about what’s going on with Micah Parsons there is no notable contract movement at this time there is no trade that’s going to happen that’s all nonsense there are questions about being quote worth $40 million there is that Dak worth $60 million Micah worth 40 CD Lamb worth and my answer my my generic and brilliant answer to that is if you never win it was all a waste all the money paid all the time to Tony Romo that never got you anywhere sucks guys are asking when I’m going to be on Colin Coward again you were really good on there i know i don’t know what happened maybe I need to reach out maybe maybe I need to reach out and maybe I need to criticizing him those would be the two things because here I go again on Colin who I really do I really do like what he does he created his top five here’s the guys that you would just never trade in the NFL and he didn’t include Micah on the list and that’s okay you know what I think of listicles as we call them right tommy Buster comes into the Uncle Fish Club it’s just a way to fill time he’s the sixth best he’s the seventh best he’s the 10th best what’s the difference what’s the difference between being the fifth best and the sixth best what’s the difference dak Prescott is the fifth i don’t know i don’t care in this case Collins come up with his top five untradable too valuable okay and he doesn’t put Mike in there and then he says and this is the problem and I would say this to Colin’s face the problem with trying to cover 32 teams and being a beatw writer of 32 teams and there’s a lot of guys that get in trouble here and I know we’re all just trying to earn a living is you just can’t your your brain’s not big enough to know all the facts about all the teams this is the Stephen A smith problem at ESPN they ask him to comment on women’s tennis he hadn’t watched five minutes of women’s tennis in his life but they prop him up there and have him do commentary on women’s tennis you saw it in the NBA finals he’s playing solitire during the game they’re they’re the brain isn’t big enough although his brain was apparently big enough to play solitire during game six of the NBA finals and then to lie about it part of Colin’s analysis of Micah and his criticism of Micah is quote I take that back paraphrase quote he’s only a splash player just like he was in college he wasn’t a splash player in college he was an offball linebacker he wasn’t a splash player at all collins making it sound like he was a sack artist in college he That’s That’s not what he was uh Jerry versus Jimmy to be really clear jimmy quit and he didn’t qu he it’s it’s uh it’s more complicated than he quit because of Jerry it’s more complicated than that um but Jerry Jerry didn’t fire him he gave him a big pile of money and a hug and another big pile of money and offered him opportunities to stay under the terms of his existing contract so um the Dallas Morning News has for 30 years written Jerry fired Jimmy i’ve for 30 years wrote Jimmy quit on the Cowboys and one of the complications is this is a another story for another day you look at Jimmy’s track record over the course of his career he’s a brilliant man semi friend of the show who realizes that after four or five years the message starts to get old so it really was a uh um a a come together of a whole bunch of things all at the same time bottom line is should should Jerry have eaten it shut up and let Jimmy do what he wants yep because they would have won another Super Bowl that year and probably another one the year after that should Jimmy have shut up and eaten it and recognized you know I know we’ve been treating you for five years here like you’re the co- boss you’re not the co- boss i’m the boss
