i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com jean is the umpire at third our pitching preview from Kane’s Furniture quality selection value that’s the confidence of Canes and Drew Rasmusen on the hill career-wise he’s been very good against the Athletics in fact one of his last big starts before he had his third elbow procedure he went seven innings in Oakland of course at the time that was the home of the now athletics who play in West Sacramento this year overall this season Rasmusen very good 7 and five a 245 RA and no runs in five innings in a three nothing shutout of the Kansas City Royals lawrence Butler making his way to the plate making his way to the mic for the playbyplay the first couple of innings my broadcast partner Andy Free
okay Neil thank you very much good to be back home just in time to do a little laundry and go back to the road where the Rays will spend the last 10 days of the regular season before the Allstar break this is it three games in 67 hours steve Urslick and I were figuring that out and here we are becket Steinbrerfield for the only three home games in a 19ame span and Lawrence Butler leads off rasmusled on the third base side of the rubber works ahead of the set always and his first pitch is swung on and fouled straight back underway at 7:35 on an 82 the green night i think they just said 83Β° officially well the general crux of the A’s this year cuz they got off to a pretty good start 20 and 16 start a check swing foul shoots to the left of our crowd back into the left side of the screen and it is 0 and2 the crux is they can score runs but they give up a lot of runs why tonight’s starter Jacob Lopez has been such a a former Ray valvelation for the A’s he’s really helped out the fast ball is high from Rasmusen and it’s one and two but they uh their season fell apart early they were kind of a trendy pick to maybe make a run at a wildard spot coming out of spring training grassm just missed with a cutter away and it’s two and two but after they went 20 and 16 and looked to be about the team that many of us thought that they might be they hit the skids in a big way couple of long losing streaks an 11game losing streak and a nineame losing streak butler takes high and it’s three and two but when you go one and 20 it’s hard to come o overcome that it doesn’t matter what year you’re having it really is the 3-2 pitch swing on a miss he struck him out he went elevated at 97 and for all that Rasmusen does to cut and slice the baseball he still has that high octane fast that just blows hitters away one out
defensively Junior Camro back of the bag now at third Taylor Walls at short Curtis Me at second Jonathan Aronda at first with Danny Jansen catching and it’s Morell Mangum and Cababayro left to right in the outfield
now the guy that’s trying to run away with Rookie of the Year Jacob Wilson a first look at him in the big league abby Big’s first pitch strike over to the outside is a right-handed batter that is hitting 338 that’s a heck of a first few months in the big leagues boy he is a jittery looking hitter and he swings and fouls it away to the right side 0 and2 having seen him only on video but when you see him in person he rocks back and forth looks like he’s almost jumping back and forth usually hitters that have all that motion do come settled as the pitch comes in and he does but he takes up one away so it’s a lot of movement before the pitch comes in and then right as Rasmusen goes into his delivery like everything calms down gets settled and he has done a ton of damage this year to the league one and two and the pitch slow grounder over Rasmus and near the bag at second walls cuts over the bag and throws to first for the out two men away another play that Taylor Walls makes look routine
wilson is known for putting it in play in fact he’s got one of the lowest strikeouts rates in baseball it helps to have an opposing shortstop who can make plays like Taylor Walls does all right two out nobody on and here’s the main stay they’re really built around Butler and this man Brent Rooker the veteran former journeyman that has become a real star for the eighth right hand hitter takes a strike and it’s 0 and one while has been streaky over the last five weeks or so he’s hitting in the 320s he has 17 home runs and 44 runs batted in he swings and smashes one to third through a reaching attempt by Camaro and down the left field line banks off the sidewall morell chases it throws to second but not before Rooker slides in with a two-out double it’ll go as a double but I thought that was a playable ball in the backand well it was hit very very hard and Camro looks like he he may have even gotten like to the baseball but he just didn’t get a glove on it getting another look his reaction time was there but he didn’t get the glove down so two out man and here is Nick Curtz one of the young power hitters for the A’s as Rasmusson comes to him very high with a fast ball this is a guy Curts that hits for a lot of power and has done a lot of damage late in games so really clutch hitter surprisingly enough only 194 with runners in scoring position but the ones that he’s gotten late in games have started an early legend on him this pitch goes low and inside 2 and 0 two walk-offs in a four-day span against the division rival Astros helped to put him on the map he leads the team with a dozen home runs as muscle behind two and0 Rooker at second two out just the beginning of things here in the first there’s ball three outside three balls no strike what’s amazing in terms of what he’s done in a short period of time is this time last year he still wasn’t even drafted i
think about that pretty impressive hard to do that so quickly and the 3 0 is strike to the outside corner get John Tempne and it’s three and one two quick outs then a double by Rooker he’s there and a tough pitch here to Curts three and one holds his hands high the elbow pointed up back us back to us here in the booth it’s a 3-1 pitch there’s high ball four he tried to get hurts the same way that he got Butler and with two out and two on first and second for the A’s here is Shay Langalers just back from the injured list they made a a bunch of moves today langalers a core player a catcher the strain left to oblique he injured this June 6th and he’s back tonight and he takes too high ball one eric Martins is the third base coach for the A bobby Crosby was beyond his at first for a former teammate of race manager Kevin Cash mark Hatik and the pitch down the middle for a strike one and oneonone they were both on the 08 Red Sox and both participated in the league championship series against the Rays that year each have a lot of respect for each other tech made one of the outs in the ninth inning of game seven against David Price on one and one fast ball that stays hot two balls one strike now Drew’s up with his fast ball which isn’t a bad thing but he’s having a tough time he’s trying to get to the top of the zone and he’s not getting the athletics to chase in these spots they’re usually a pretty free swinging team half of his pitches so far are strikes means half are out of the zone too he delivers on two and one fly ball well hit left center field on its way to the scoreboard and Rasmmonson has given up a three-run homer in the return of Shay Langalers and five batters in the A’s have a three nothing lead all this happened with two out and nobody on base it was a a double on a playable ball a two out walk and then Langalers who didn’t play the rest of this road trip till today shows the kind of power he has he’s hit 20 plus homers the last couple seasons yeah he’s homered against the Rays before that power is nothing new but what a return to the lineup for Shay Langaliers that was a no doubter his 11th home run of the season and Drew’s got to start all over again and here’s Tyler Sodestrom sends a one hopper a two hopper now back to the mound rasmus’s got it on the first base side and flips the first for the out but the Rays are in a hole early they’ll come up against Jacob Lopez down three nothing on the Rays radio network

smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two on a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com it’s a great night for baseball
this matchup features some of the best talent in the game a lot of power a lot of marquee names
here we go buckle up folks there’s a guy wanting spotlight the bats have come around and shows stoppers we’re just playing Powerball this place doesn’t know what these teams are in the show continues experience gametoame coverage of the night’s biggest moments live and commercial free mlb Network Strike Zone Wednesday and Friday nights all season our pitching preview from Kane Furniture Quality Selection Value that’s the confens of gains when the Rays got Joe Bole from the Athletics they traded Jeffrey Springs but also Jacob Lopez who’s been as good as ever been one earned run allowed his last four starts over 23 innings and we’ll see if the Rays are able to get to Lopez here in the first and have an answer after he was given three runs to work with
well he’s been their best strikeout pitcher especially in the month of June yandi Diaz will started against him and the first pitch lifted foul down the right field line out of play so Diaz me and Camaro against the lefty Lopez a former Ray as Neil mentioned and then tomorrow the Rays also see another former Ray left-hander in Jeffrey Springs and the pitch popped up out of play foul once again it is 0 and two the arm angle the deception makes Lopez tougher and makes his fast ball there’s a lot of carry be more effective than what you would think for a guy that throws in the low to mid 90s and the O2 to Yandi Diaz has popped up foul on the first base side shay Langalers is doing it all himself he makes the catch to the right of the plate and there’s the first down defensively for Oakland you mentioned Langalers behind the plate nick Herz at first the second baseman today for Oakland is Luis Seria shorts stop Jacob Wilson and at third is Max Muny it’s Tyler Soderstrom Denzel Clark and then Lawrence Butler left to right in the outfield all right one out nobody here’s Curtis Me right hand batting third baseman and the first pitch strike on one it’ll be interesting to see with backto back lefties today hey the Rays rest all of their lefties low Lao Simpson and Ty see which of them might be in there tomorrow against Franks hey Danny here’s the 01 high and away cuz the Rays really have not faced that many lefties that backto-back days they may give them a bit of a rest before all the games coming up until the break
i would think they still might pop in a lefty or two tomorrow now the 1-1 to me slow roller by the mound to short wilson to his left couple of steps and throws the first two down
the only reason is Lopez is more fast ball and slider to lefties jeffrey Springs isn’t a big slider pitcher it’s his change up that’s his great pitch so sometimes if you have lefty on lefty it might take away the benefits of that change up a little bit ray certainly knows Springs very well tomorrow we’ll see what they do and with two out on and the Rays down three already here is Junior Common yesterday also hasn’t played since Saturday and Lopez’s first one is a ball outside one and0 freddy Williams coaches third for the Rays with Michael Johns at first i love the A’s uniform i think they’re they’re gold top with the green lettering is a great look on one and0 swinging a high fly ball to left but not all that deep soderstrom to his left comes in at an angle and makes the catch to retire the side lopez gets the Rays in order and Oakland leads three nothing not Oakland i There it is i did it for the first time the Athletics lead the Rays 3 nothing as we go to the second your day in baseball starts with MLB Central

swing in a ground ball by Max Muny to the backhand side of the shortstop taylor Walls with a quick unload to first in time muny is retired on one pitch for Grassmuff to start the second inning and up comes Luis Aras the brother of the oral Ramon Aras who we just saw over the weekend surrounded by the Orases louise is playing second base a former Milwaukee Brewer been about as tough on the Rays over the years as his brother Ramon here’s the first pitch strike one and one 247 homers 18 bat in for Luis Orias outfield straight away and at medium depth as Aras takes a strike and it’s 0 and two well I think the goal for Rasmus now gave up the two out three-run homer in the first to Langalers and then you got to make sure you don’t try to do more than what you’re capable of to make things harder for you this one’s popped up into right field should be playable for Cabierro backing off whips his glove in a circle and then makes the catch very casual looking play by Cababie and there’s two men down here in the second
was that Ricky Henderson or Jose Cavayo
that was very Rickyish wasn’t it rickyesque
ricky said that Ricky would have made a play like that two out no one on here is Denzel Clark fine young player defensively for the Yay will trying to find himself at the plate rightand batter looks a called strike 0 and one clark hitting only 204 but it seems like every week he’s doing something to stand out offensively here’s a one bouncer that the umpire foul but the umpire reached for it and grabbed out of the air well done nice hands Don Tempain’s got the reactions 0 and two is the count to Denzel Clark as Mus rocks to a stop on the third base side of the rubber now ready and pitches and he’s high it is one and two
he’s been like Spider-Man defensively with some of the catches he’s made
oh he’s gone up and over fences and diving and crashing into walls and holding on to it every time it seems dancing slides away and the pitch is away but down and away and out of the zone two balls two strikes two balls two strengths the count to Denzel Clark with the top of the order lawrence Butler next paul Rasmosson’s problems came with two out in the first here’s a swing and a line drive well hit to right but there is Caviier to move to his right and then spur off and catch it on his left side caviierro busy in the second inning through one of one half the A’s three and the Rays nothing on the Rays radio take a hack at guessing which baseball player or master said the following

smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com graving the best pizza in Tampa Bay colony Grill the official pizza of the race has been serving its famous thin crust pizza since 1935 whether you’re celebrating a win or enjoying a meal with family and friends Colony Grill’s famous thin crust pizza knocks it out of the park second inning Lopez got the raise in order in the first and here is Morel Mangaman Aronda against the lefty Lopez and first one to him is lifted in the air to left right at Soderstrom who moves towards the corner and reaches up to get it just a little bit out in front with Chris Moral and there’s one going on one pitch
the Rays aren’t swinging and missing against a guy who’s gotten a lot of swinging miss this this month but they’re also not making really solid contact right off the barrel all right Neil I’m backing everything tonight on this note from the A’s game notes
okay said Lopez this year in the first inning a 129 RA in the second inning it’s over nine so maybe something’s going to happen here in the second inning here’s Jake Manga batting right-handed had the first pitch to him slider inside corner first strike it throws a slider and a cutter that rising fast ball from Jacob Lopez muny wide of the bag at third and even with the infield grass against a guy that can lay him down just swinging a fly ball towards right center field backing off to his right is Butler now back near the wall it goes and out of nowhere here’s Denzel Clark to make the catch that was behind Butler the right fielder who couldn’t seem to track it so Clark came over and took it away and he needed to i don’t know if Butler really saw that thing well
well Clark seems like he’s like the clear for the A’s defensive ws they’re one of the worst defensive teams in baseball but boy he covered up Butler really not taking a great route there wonder if he lost it there it’s It’s not really a tough sky right now at least it doesn’t look to be two out no one owned for Jonathan Arondo who takes inside ball one kind of the only true lefty in the lineup today couple of switch hitters in the air against Lopez the A’s lead three nothing here in the second inning the big leg kick and the pitch it’s a strike on the outside portion it’s one-on-one they’ve talked a lot about Lopez’s arm angle and how that makes it very difficult almost like Madison Bumgardner like when he was in his prime kind of sweeps it across swinging a ground ball to first hit hard but on a hop nick Curts will take it to the bag and retire the race so much for that scouting accord we’re done with two athletics three Rays nothing on the Rays radio network hey Rays fans summer is officially here and you

i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com scout.com through two the A’s lead three to nothing and it’ll be the top of the order for the A’s and tell you about that here is Neil Solola thanks Andy it’s Lawrence Butler against Drew Rasmusen first pitch to the leadoff man taken I guess a little low for ball one three nothing A’s on one swing shay Langers with his 11th homer it came with two out in the first 10 swing and a miss elevated fast ball one and one and the entire rally happened with two out and nobody on base and the A’s did what they have done when they’re going well this year they hit the home run they rely heavily on the home run ball 1-1 swing and a miss by Butler on another elevated heater it’s one and two they’re among the better home run hitting teams in baseball but they’ve also allowed the most home runs in the game and in this ballpark that would seem to play well to the Rays as well as the A’s one two to Butler who himself has 11 homers swinging a pop-up foul straight back it’s still one and two he’s one of the core players for the Athletics moving forward but of course they’re still in West Sacramento now but eventually their plan is to move to Vegas and Butler’s one of the two guys they’ve signed long term one two again that’s low breaking ball two and two the other being Brent Rooker and the A’s committed to Butler before he had even played a full season in the major leagues two two to the leftand batter rasmusen at the ready and now pitches up and in with a fast ball it’s three and two jacob Wilson to follow and then the aforementioned Rooker three balls two strikes the pitch again chop foul off the plate and Butler stays alive drew had a lengthy first inning an easier second against the bottom of the order threw just nine pitches and now he’s going to his eighth offering to Butler just the first of three between the Rays and the A’s two teams in somewhat similar spots this year is the payoff on its way swinging a line drive looked in a right it’s going to drop base hit for Butler gabby plays it on one hop and Butler aboard and let’s pause for station identification on the Race Baseball Network alongside Andy Freed i’m Neil Solon steve Hersnner engineer in the booth be back to Carney with us alongside as well derek Dubz at her network studios jacob Wilson top hitter for the Athletics grounds one in the hole the other way in a right base hit cavaliro onto it quickly and Butler stops at second and here come the Athletics back-to-back hits backto-back pitches and they’ve got two on nobody out already leading three nothing for their top home run an RBI guy in Brent Rooker

and I hate to say this is a really big tilting point but this is a monstrous tilting point rooker smashed one past Junior Caminero to his backhand for what went as a double and started the three-run rally in the first the pitch swing and a miss good cutter it’s nothing and one this is where Drew who’s been so tough for the most part this year needs to buckle down this is really his last chance before all-star teams are announced for Drew to make a last impression he’s had to what appears to be an all-star first half but one pitch is outside one and one and I don’t know if that enters his mind or not i mean he’s done so many good things for the Rays coming back from his third elbow procedure i know his teammates really want to see him go to his first All-Star game 1-1 with two on swinging a ground ball hits toward the middle and through and a left center a base hit butler will round third and score wilson will scoot first to third the throw comes into second rooker an RBI single that’s his 45th run batted in it is four nothing A’s and that equals the most runs allowed by Drew Rasmusen in any game this year and there’s still nobody out in the second inning and here comes Danny Jansen to go out and have a chat with Drew
well we said it in the outset the A’s can hit they can score runs and they’re doing it against one of the league’s best this season well you got a fast ball pitcher and a team that’s hitting the fast ball right now and you got Nick Curts coming up who’s done a lot of damage in his first stint in the big leagues so it’s up to Drew to just find a way to give his team a chance the Athletics have the highest bullpen RA in baseball it’s incumbent then upon the Rays if they want to make one of these fantastic comebacks like they had last home stand to keep this game as close to where it is as possible and then get into that bullpen first and third none out for Curts walked his first time and scored and he swings and misses at a curve ball nothing and one different look from Drew there middle infield to pull looking for two to try and limit damage here wilson at third rooker at first rasmusen now with an 01 in the dirt and it’s boxed by Jansen but he keeps it in the batter circle on a change up first one from Drew it’s one and one trying to stay away from Curts who was drafted in the first round last year out of Wake Forest University one-1 swinging a chopper foul got his leg on the instep and it’s one and two doesn’t Wake Lake Forest also have like a green and gold sort of colored uh color scheme i would say more black and gold than and green but the gold yes is a big part of their their look he was teammates with a guy who also was taken for early in the first round last year Chase Burns burns by the way pitching tonight at Fenway Park well was pitching one-two inside two and two the Red Sox on the visit Tampa Bay out of town scoreboard scored seven in the first inning and Boston leads Cincinnati 7 nothing bottom three yankees meanwhile a two nothing advantage now at Toronto top four keep you posted on those as we go 2-2 taken down and in three and two and Drew’s having a tough time finishing batters off when he gets into those two strike counts tonight he was unable to get Butler and now he’s having a tough time finishing off Curts after a couple of singles followed see what they do with Rooker at first here 3-2 he holds and it’s taken called strike three how important out for Jer Rasmusen it’s his second strikeout in his first out here in the third inning and now the guy who homerred off him for the first three runs Shay Langalers that’s the two seam fast that the left-hand hitter tends to give up on understandably cuz it looks like it’s out of the zone and then it comes right back over the inside portion well now if he can get Langelers to pull one on the ground perhaps the Rays can limit damage to just a single run here
righty on righty the pitch outside with a cutter and it’s one and0 drew and all the race starters making all of their starts so far this season and this time through the rotation they’re having a little bit of a tough time 1 low for a ball two and0 ryan Pepio was knocked out in the sec second inning jane uh Zack Latell was very good but then yesterday Taj Bradley had a tough out and now Drew so three out of four this time through the rotation 2 fast ball I guess outside or low and it’s 3 and 0 close pitch and now Langers who has a three-run homer in his first day off the injured list in the driver’s seat A’s are up four See if he gets the green light he takes it’s a called strike fast ball three and one screw that right on the outside edge wilson who singled at third rooker who had a base hit to score a run is at first rasmusen with a 3-1 swing chopper on one hop to third handled by the second one on first it’s a double play and Drew Rasmusen pumps his fist he does limit damage here in the third inning to a single run it’s four nothing Athletics after two and a half on the Race Baseball Network still getting around to that fix on your car the big hits all the great brats you got to be kidding me and all the swagger relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour show you better believe it

that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com grace just turned a beautiful double play really needed it at that moment also with that outstanding double play TD Cynics donates another $250 to Girls Inc supporting and encouraging girls to be strong smart and bold through direct service and advocacy it’s Italian night at the ballpark so Frago here we go now 4 nothing we got the wonderful Italian hot dogs here in the booth that you actually can get at the ballpark if you’re tuned in as JoseΓ© Cabierro takes strike from former teammate Jacob Lopez nothing in one they’re locally made with mild Italian sausage house marinara roasted peppers and onions and grilled parmesan and they smell pretty good too a one that’s taken a little high by Cababiro the Rays right fielder and it’s one and one against Lopez who retired the first six batters on just 14 pitches one-1 to Jose Caviierro down and in ball two well I would love to see the Rays find a way to climb their way back into this one that That would be a right that’s a two-1 coming from Lopez that’s a breaking ball strike and it’s two and two first things first to come back down four nothing rays need to start to mount some pressure against Lopez they really have not made him work to this point may him move off the mound two-2 swinging a ball punched foul to the right out of play it’s still two and two well Neil now that we’re home it is time as well for Culver’s Kurds in the third to Stein Bernfield if the Rays score a run here in this third inning they will then you score free Wisconsin Chiefs Courage from Culver’s so Ray is up two balls two strikes on Cabo rays have some bullpen activity going as a pitch line to short caught on the backhand by Jacob Wilson gabby hit it hard the last two have hit it hard for the race with no success and there’s one down
passing may be done for the night i I hope there’s nothing physically wrong with him that’s the biggest worry when you see somebody warming after three innings because the velocity was there he was 96 97 maybe his pitches don’t have the same life and the Rays are shortening him up here’s Danny Jansen first one coming taken in there for a strike from Lopez it’s nothing at one well even though the Rays have really been very tight on his innings pitch this year he still is ahead of pace that they would like him to be on so it might be a night down four nothing to going even shorter there’s an 01 pitch floats outside change up and it’s one and one on Jansen a little pressure on the starters the next two days the Rays will have an off day on Thursday and then he won’t pitch again scheduled to be at least until Sunday rays may have to shuffle some arms in and out as a 1-1 is swung on a miss change up and it’s one and two see how that plays going forward
kyle Snder is having a chat with Rasmus in the dugout i’m guessing that’s the case one ball two strikes one down and the pitch called strike three top of the zone and Jacob Lopez has his first strikeout he’s retired his first eight batters in order and bring up Taylor Walls jacob Lopez has one of the lower arm angle deliveries for a left-hander meaning it almost looks like he’s throwing uphill but he also releases closer to home plate than most as the pitch taken all the way curveball strike nothing and one so it really has the feel of the pitch riding above you and it’s hard to get on top of 01 to the shortstop walls taken low change up one and one and even though the Rays know Jacob because he pitched in their minor league system after being traded from the Giants to Tampa Bay they’re having a a tough time putting pressure on him he hasn’t been out of the stretch yet 1-1 swing and a foul tip been held it’s one and two on the switch hitting walls batting right
well he’s out of the stretch just because that’s what he does but your point is nobody’s been on base to really force him into that
there’s no duress no stress pitches as the ball fouled straight back one and two he grunts and really almost snaps his body forward as he delivers to home plate he needed Tommy John when he was in the Rays minor league system and then built his way back up to eventually reach the majors for the first time two years ago slider outside and it’s two and two on Walls he pitched well against the Giants when he was with the Rings too so facing another one of his former team trying to say “Hey look what you missed out on.” Now it didn’t hurt that he got three runs before he took them out four nothing lead in the third with the 2-2 outside ball three first three ball count for Lopez heck he only threw eight pitches in the first and six more in the second he’s thrown more than that in this third inning alone and you just hope to put some more pressure on the young man because he’s probably even though it’s not that hot used to the humidity payoff is a broken bat ground ball passed the mound to short handled by Wilson he flips to first to get the Ray short stop walls and nine up nine down jacob Lopez still perfect after three four nothing a’s in front see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo do you know what it means taco a home run hit to the opposite field with Taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game

good question is Tyler Sodstrom a switch hitter turns around and bats left-handed and he swings and pops one up in the air towards shallow left over and now back is Morell and he reaches up to make the catch sodstrom who we weren’t sure was going to answer the bell for first pitch today flies out the other way to left against Jerase sodestrom hit himself in the face with a a batted ball when he was hitting in batting practice and then went to the clubhouse but good enough to go as Maxy steps in right on right one out fourth inning as Drew Rasmusen stay done as a pitch in there strike from the 610 Jervase and it’s nothing and one you try and think along with Kevin Cash how many innings could Jer as a pitch fouled straight back and it’s nothing and two Rasmusen goes three four runs five hits one walk two strikeouts and this is I think the Rays protecting Drew because if there was something physically wrong with Drew Rasmusen he would be in the clubhouse and See have seen multiple shots of him sitting in the dugout at this point in time so at least that’s good that there’s no injury in this case razer just keeping a tight leash with him having a tough night 02 swinging the ball lifted in the air to right center field but very playable for Cababiro the right fielder reaches up makes the grab casually and there’s two quick outs on fly balls for Jerbase here in the fourth and I understand him not being happy but I think Drew has said often “They’re protecting me from myself.” I think he’s used that phrase a fair amount this year here’s Luis Urias right-hand hitter and second baseman two gone in the fourth four nothing Rays trail the Athletics alger at the ready in his what fourth big league appearance he delivers taken all the way for a strike nothing in one second in this ballpark a guy who went through four different colleges his last at LSU he was in either junior college or division three prior to that 01 high towering fly ball to left center field struck fairly well but playable mangum in the alley the center fielder puts it away shy of the track marius is gone and that’s three outs in the air for Paul Jerves in a very easy 1 two three four time for the Rays to have an answer down four nothing to the A’s on the Rays Baseball Network the big hits all the great brats you got to be kidding me and all the swagger relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour

02 hit a thousand on TV as a pitch upstairs for a ball one and two
you don’t want to be four for 10 on TV no you’re always batting a thousand when you’re on the tube right you’ll be on TV in the next road trip apparently that’s what they tell me one two taking high and it’s two and two yeah matt Joyce is the last Ray to hit 400 in a month the only other Fred McGriff that was in the Devil Ray era joyce did it in his all-star season hit 400 in May in that All-Star campaign 2-2 swinging a line drive over second it’s caught by Luis Seras that’s not going to help the batting average this month that is the third line drive out that the Rays have hit at somebody clark ran run down in center wilson at short now at second and the first 10 Rays retired in order so 0 for two is Yandi 0 for 10 are the Rays and here’s Curtis me a slow bouncer to short batting average on balls in play not so good so far as the pitch outside a ball 1 and0 have been one of the most productive teams in baseball during a 37game stretch they are 26 and 11 entering today as a breaking ball outside it’s two and0 on me but yesterday they were held to just a single run a Brandon Lao home run in the ninth inning off Felix Bautista of all people and now Jacob Lopez who’s been dynamite lately keeping them in order 2 slider for a strike two and one including this inning lopez has allowed one earned run in his last 27 innings if he finishes this one off with another zero that’s incredible 2-1 blowing in three in one kind of nice to see him behind the count finally haven’t had many advantage counts against Jacob Lopez four nothing still manageable as we’re in the fourth 3-1 outside and high and there’s the first Rays base runner we invite you to download the Weeble app you can then make a deposit and Weeble and the Rays will benefit a portion of the total funds deposited this season to support hurricane relief efforts in Tampa Bay visit weevil.com/campampa Bay Rays to learn more
i mentioned the numbers that Yachty Diaz put up i think as a designated hitter he’s certainly worthy of all-star consideration so is this guy third baseman Junior Commonro leading the team in home runs and RBI’s with 20 and 51 he flyed to left his first time the only pitch he’s seen tonight one swing and you’re halfway there first one from Lopez swinging the ball popped up back behind home plate and this will float into the seats
about five rows back
you know you and I we watch the scoreboard every night and there’s been a lot of times where the Yates have had leads and given them back now 4 nothing is not easy to do but it’s not impossible either the big thing right now is that Lopez have been pretty good rhythm so you always feel like they got to do something here after the walk force that bullpen to get in there earlier than they want to a one swing and a miss there’s a cutter on the hands it’s nothing and two one on one out fourth inning rays with their first base runner ace with three in the first and then one in the third 02 to Junior who’s headed to 21 double plays swinging a ball drill deep in the air to center way back is Clark toward the track to the wall he can’t find and get this one it’s a two-run homer for Junior the deficit cut in half on home run number 21 first hit of the day for the race makes it a 4-2 ball game the first hit for the Rays means that Sun Coast donates $79 as they do for every hit in honor of their 79 Florida branches with up to $10,000 going towards two local nonprofits each month with the first runs mosaic donates another $500 to fighting hunger in Tampa Bay and even more to get to oh was that thing touched oh 108 off the bat as Christopher Morell takes change up strike
with that home run by the Rays you score free pizza from Colony Grill take your mobile ticket to any participating Colony Grill location for buy one pizza get one of Colony Grill’s signature hot oil pizzas for free apply visit colony grill.com/ra for more details
there’s a hard smash toward Short is in a left field at Christopher Morell all of a sudden the Rays are going to get the tying run at the plate down 4-2 in the fourth inning against Lopez well he had allowed one earned run in 26 plus innings before Junior Commonro got a hold of one and now Scott Emerson the pitching coach out to have a word me too the A’s have made every play defensively until this that’s the first ball to kind of sneak through
well you can’t defend the home run and that’s been the problem for the A’s they have allowed now Andy 125 home runs that’s more than any team in baseball this year that’s something that was plaguing the Rays in the first six weeks of the season but in the subsequent six weeks or so that gap has closed the Rays weren’t hitting many and they were giving up a lot now the Rays are hitting more and giving up fewer and they’ve still allowed 16 more homers than they’ve hit but it was at one point almost a 30 homer gap yeah Big Mangum has flyed to center so far today see if he can put even a little more pressure on Lopez i wouldn’t be shocked to see him try and bunt for a base hit just because Lopez is falling third base side and Mangum’s hitting right side he could push it past him he’s swinging and lines it over short base hit left center field morell makes the turn he goes first to third clark throws it into second and the Rays quickly have runners at the corners the tying runs aboard with the Rays down 4-2 in the fourth inning and here comes Tampa Bay jonathan Aronda their best hitter coming to the plate the last couple of hitters have all swung early in the count tamanos was on the third pitch moral was on the second pitch this one on the first pitch so there’s a bit of been a bit of a change in approach to Jacob Lopez and or maybe they’re just getting some things to hit where they weren’t the first time through see what Jonathan Aronda gets to hit he hit a hard smash to first his first time the only lefty in the lineup 10 homers a mammoth homer over the weekend in Baltimore 44 ribbies swinging a line drive on a right sinking quickly it drops base hit throw goes to second it’s not in time as Morell crosses that’s now four straight hits for the Rays after they had none and his second time through the Rays exploding now down a run at four to three and another first ball swinging they’re not allowing Lopez to get ahead of them he is leaving some pitches to be hit now right on the inside part riby number 45 for Jonathan he had his hit streak snapped yesterday at 13 he starts a new streak here’s Jose Cabier lined to short his first time and here goes Shay Langalers out to have the second mound meeting of the inning jt Gin is up in the Ace pin listen to the champ well you want the A’s bullpen in a game they have the highest ERA in baseball if you can get Lopez chased in the fourth after all the great work he’s done his last few starts that’s a win and it’s happening fast you know it’s early in the count jose Caviier known more for his glove than his bat and more for his wheels than his bat his skin continues to throw and now a call of time and was that’s a warning I think for not making the eye contact with a hitter cabierro can kind of draw that out of a pitcher he keeps his head down until the last one when he needs to
he’s the guy I think might push a bunch first and second one out three home the pitch swinging a slasher foul to the right he does not and it’s nothing in one
wow i mean if you do that you’re bunning for Danny Jansen who’s been driving the baseball lately if you get it down
if you do a third baseman here that’s Muny he’s back slightly off the bag same for Curts well off the bag at first
runner goes and then they’ve got Mangum picked off the throw goes to second and it forces the second baseman Aras to have to dive and stab it and when that happens off to third goes Mangum he’s there safely the pitcher stepped off in Lopez he had Mangum who was leaving early dead to rights and then Mangum got held up in the run down and then when Urias threw it back or rather when Lopez threw it back to second he threw a bad throw to Reas had to leap and grab and Urias couldn’t do anything with it runners at first and third marius did a heck of a job there to uh prevent that from going into the outfield and tying the game so now the tying runs 90 ft away first and third to the raised bunt here the safety keeps squares spun it first base side picked up by Kirk no panel cleanly a run scores everyone safe we’re tied at four kirb saw it coming he charged but it went off the heel of his glove and the Rays have erased a fourrun deficit lickety split here in the fourth wow they’re giving him a base hit single RBI they said now on the botched rund down they’re also going to give a stolen base to Mango his 12th and 13 chances and here comes manager Mark Kay that’s going to be it for Lopez he’s erased in the fourth inning the Rays have tied it we’ll tell you about JT Gen when we come back on the Rays Baseball Network introducing Voodoo Ranger hard charged tea don’t settle for boring tea get a hard tea that parties with more flavor and attitude hard charged tea beckons the bold with 7% ABV loaded with juicy thirst quenching flavors lemon peach half and half and rasp available see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term next phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field

so Danny’s been on a good run eight homers 24 ribbies two on a 2-1 swinging the ball popped up infield fly roll in effect batter automatically out wilson the shorts stop makes the grab and that’s the second out of the inning got jammed a little bit by a sinker and it’s two and two so Gin gets his first batter now Taylor Walls will turn around and bat left-handed against the writing former second round pick out of Mississippi State same school as Jake Mango former Mets draft pick they got him in one of the many deals between those clubs the pitch taken inside for a ball chris Basset went to the Mets in that deal with the Athletics basset of course now with the Blue Jays rays have sent everybody to bat here in this fourth inning erasing a four- nothing deficit can they take their first lead 10 with two on and two out inside corner for a strike one and one walls his first time up today grounded is short he’s driven in 17 of his 27 runs in June a mammoth month how about another RBI to close out the month 1-1 swinging a hard hit ball to second on one hop though snared on the backhand by Urias he shovels to first gets Walls and the Rays are retired in their half of the fourth inning but they do tie the score with four runs they lead to a board and after four we’ve got a new game rays 4 A’s 4 on the Rays Baseball Network get ready get set get checked it’s just take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following

all right thank you and we got a five inning game as we start over at four to four and as we go to the fifth Jervis’s first pitch is swung on a miss by Denzel Clark and 0 and one seven pitches all strikes so far for Jervis out of the bullpen so neither starter gets it a decision both threw right around 50 pitches and it’s bullpen against bullpen the rest of the way and on no one blowing outside it’s even up it’s one ball one strike to Clark who hit it hard for the Red Soder Cabiero his first time one ball one strike the tall right-hander pitches too low all right Neil think of this the A’s got four runs quickly but they also had first and third nobody out in the third against Rasmuscle
so while Drew only gets a no decision today he got a strike out and a double play on his final pitches of the game and then the Rays are able to come back and catch the A’s here’s a one low and away it’s three and one three balls one strike to Clark and then the top of the order Butler and Wilson so Jerves looking for a shut down inning after the Rays grab the momentum right-handers 3-1 pitch is a strike inside portion and it’s three and two sometimes it’s a little tougher to pitch when it’s tied than when you’re trailing 4 nothing it feels different I’m sure well down three and two especially for a guy that’s so new to the league and the 3-2 pitch a swung on a miss strike three and Clark bailed him out the first swing in this he got in the inning looked just like the last one and the slider went down and away had some excellent late break on it too i mean it looks like it’s a 126 curveball and then all of a sudden it’s taking a left turn now Lawrence Butler has struck out and he has singled to right scoring the A’s most recent run left-hand batter and he takes down the middle for a cold strike 0 and one well that’s really one of the next steps once you get to the big leagues if you have any degree of success as a pitcher what’s the game condition at the time that you’re out there i know it shouldn’t matter but it does there’s a strike called 0 and2 some guys are Yeah especially when you’re young some guys are good when you’re trailing in the game but suddenly you’re in a tight game or in a lead and it it’s just a little bit different 0 and2 the count here to Butler and the pitch swung on and missed straight three a fast ball at 97 and Butler quickly extinguished by Berase for two out that might be the hardest pitch he’s thrown since coming up to the big leagues andy he’s been more 92 94 610 with 97 it’s got to feel like 107 and Butler just short of 100 strikeouts this year two of them tonight here’s Jacob Wilson a great young right-hand batter for the A’s singled and grounded out the first pitch slider called strike one 0 and one has the crowd behind him too crowd was forced to sit on their hands early but now that the Rays have come back got a whole different affair i don’t know 0 and1 swinging a line drive down the right field line tough play cabayro to his left he can’t get it and it’s a fair ball bounces up over the wall for an automatic double and we’re getting our first look ever at Jacob Wilson see how the guy is hitting as well as he is this year
extended those arms and just kind of punches that ball the other way really good approach short and to the ball
i’m trying to think of players over the years man that look that that have that much movement in the batters that are that compact
that are Yeah all of it only one guy comes to mind i know it’s an old name but he does have a a raised tie lee May who was a really good hitter for the Reds and the Astros and the Orioles and later on Kansas City and was a he might have been the first Devil Rays hitting coach if I’m not mistaken was in the early years anyway if you look at his how he had a very similar he’d move the hands he’d jump back and forth on the box but right when the pitch came in he’d get it compact and had a really fast swing and that’s what Lopez or not Lopez that’s what Wilson looks like in her first time ever seeing as Mason McGomery gets up in the Rays bullpen brent Rooker went two for two against Rasmus i’m thinking about that comp i mean another guy who well he’s a manager now but Craig Council had a lot of movement going on it’s different but he also did when when it mattered his swing was compact with a lot of movement these guys can’t really do that
no you know Evan Longoria had a little bit of movement and he’d go back and forth and move the wrist and the and the bat around i remember Joe Madden once saying they would never teach anyone to hit like that but it worked for him and obviously it’s working for Wilson so here’s Rookerb their veteran slugger with a tying run with a go-ahead run at second base he’s already doubled and scored and singled in a run big night for a hot hitter and Brent Rooker with a lefty on deck you may see Montgomery for Curts if it gets that far see if your base can get Rooker keep this game tied the first pitch way outside ball one rooker really hot over about the last month giving the A’s the kind of season that they they expected from him and the pitch blowing outside you know for an A’s team that’s in an interim home situation in West Sacramento they needed some guys with some credibility and Rooker is like the first guy that they really based everything around of and Butler now too he’s an extremely important player for them the two pitch ruled outside 3 and 0 um being very careful with Rooker and with Montgomery quickly warming dase has to get really good really quick to get Rooker the three 0 pitch outside ball four and Derase kind of punched out of the air there kevin Cass looks back to Kyle Snider and I we’ll see if he brings in Montgomery to face Curtz i think they just want to make sure he’s ready
yeah I think that’s what it I think they were on the phone with a pen to make sure he was ready so a four pitch walk allows Rooker aboard and erases Jervis from the game well he had retired five in a row and then the double by Wilson and the walk to Rooker and Mason McGomery is coming on to face Nick Curts here in the fifth inning follow the bullpen brought to you by Weeble the official online brokerage of the Rays while the new pitcher makes his way to the mound we’ll pause and come back in a moment on the Rays radio network star week rolls up in the ATL and MLB Network is your all access pass featuring all the top prospects in the futures game at Swingman Classic all the selections from the first round of the MLB draft

smith courts went in right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the start of three to two and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the It’s your nearest Yeti store today the Weeble call to the bullpen is one Mason Montgomery lefty on lefty against Nick Herz in a 44 game in the fifth inning the Rays had just battled to tie it and they couldn’t keep it that way two on two out after Paul Jerves departs herz walked against Rasmusen had scored and then he struck out looking against him two on two out of the first pitch is high ball one the slider lefty and lefty can be devastating for Mason Montgomery and he tried one but it it went up not really where he tends to want that pitch to go now on one and0 swing and a miss of the fast ball to 99 oh yeah he’s also got that and one ball one strike it’s Wilson at second and Rooker at first with two out in the top of the fifth inning montgomery third base side of the rubber with a leg kick and the delivery low and outside we’re going to have trivia whenever the A’s are done here in the fifth we’ll have trivia with Chris Adams wall tonight boy a tight zone tonight all the way around two balls in a strike here to Curts with a go-ahhead run in scoring position and takes way outside and Jansen heck of a job to all but throw the mid at it and hold on it’s now three balls one strike bs in a great spot he’s not hit lefties well but you got Shay Langalers who’s been supreme against lefties waiting on deck
you really want no parts of him there’s Zenic montgomery in a tough count three and one he throws inside battle really not close on a bunch of those that’ll load the bases so you I heard it said about Montgomery this week with the stuff he has and now with a bit of a body of work time for him to show some improvement in the big leagues and that’s a that’s a spot that was created for what the Rays need Montgomery to do
not throw a strike
and now you got Langelers hitting over 400 against lefties coming up
and already a three-run home run tonight and he swings through the fast ball and doesn’t get it at all and one three-run homer and then a ground ball double play the A’s had not had a base runner until they were two out this inning and the pitch chopped toward short walls has it flips to second that’s the force on Curts and Langalers has out montgomery does it the hard way and the A’s lead three men aboard we are halfway done middle of the fifth and it is off base is coming in a brand new format join Lauren Gardner and Xavier Scrugs as they explore all the baseball buzz across social media pop culture and around the majors the OffBase podcast Sundays at 11:00 a.m eastern only on MLB Network the MLB Network podcast is here join your favorite on-air personalities for unique perspectives in-depth interviews and untold stories from on and off the field the MLB Network podcast presented by New Balance Sundays at 11:30 Eastern

smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the start of three to two and a home run by the Wizard catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following
i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible was a great game
that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11 here moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com how many teams did Mark Katse play for more than seven or seven or fewer
i don’t understand the half thing i I’m not a betting guy so I don’t know how that works but how could you have half a team
you can’t so is it more than seven he could have just said more than seven but the under over is seven and a half if it’s
You can’t tie so you can’t tie but Neil and I can’t tie to think of his Diaz here’s Yandi Diaz to start the fifth inning at the Bridges outside ball one
you already mentioned the Boston Red Sox so he played for them well I saw Kate you know Chris should know this having been in uh a manor feel like I saw Kay play for the Portland Sea Dogs in the Mar back when they were in the Marlin system yandi takes loan in two balls no strikes
so did he play for the Marlins at the big league level
yeah he did i’m going to go under just for some reason or not 17 sounds like a lot to me well let’s let’s work this through let’s let’s talk about this two balls no strikes yandi takes strike from the outside two and one
all right so he played for the Red Sox and the Marlins that’s two did he play for the Athletics since he’s managing them i thought he did
all right he played for the Padres’s at one point that’s a good one
two and one yandi swings right through this sinker from JT Gin and it’s two and two sandy is has fouled the catcher and lined hard the second
did he play for San Diego trying to remember his
Yeah San Diego
yeah maybe I think he did two balls two strikes here it comes and he’s low three and two rays roaring back from a four nothing deficit to tie the game at four to four and we’re trying to figure out how many teams did Mark Kate play for in his career was it more than seven and a half teams or was it fewer than seven and a half teams what if he played half a season with one season here’s strength three called to Yandi who disagreed on the outside portion john goes Yandi and he turns and has something to say to John Temp based on the box it looked like it was a strike close pitch though yeah I can see what Yandi’s thinking because that that was a sinker at the top of the zone not normally where that pitch goes was a 94 mph fast ball and it right until the end was it above the zone but it dropped and it was in there so that’s one out and up comes knee to let him hit had the first pitch frank one called the outside 0 and one
rays could play the percentages here lefties are hitting 368 against Gin righties in the 230s
here’s the thing that we don’t know if anyone’s warming up in the A’s pad we don’t
they do have a couple of lefties you can’t see the bullpens and there’s ball low and away to me need started the rally last inning with a walk the first batter to reach after 10 in a row set down by Lopez it’s one ball one strike now to Curtis Me all those hits what five in a row followed now at 1-1 fouled off the hands out of play one of two i I just don’t remember many other uniforms that that he wore it sounds like a high number to me
did he play for Seattle i don’t think so
i don’t remember this Seattle san Francisco like going through every team in my head right one and two here to me and that pitch is a little bit high two balls two strike slider that stayed up claire says he played for the White Socks and the Red Sox she said she remembers that
okay so that gets us to what four teams five teams
four five down the hill again on a two- two to me here it is break three called no question on that one two men retired well he’s faced four righties so far and retired three of them we’ll see if Junior can get to him well no one at all and it leaves it for Junior Caminero junior started the scoring the first hit the first runs for the home at a dead center it over the for the 408 sign in center field and the first one to Camo is strike one on the outside corner and one that time a bit of a friendly call I would say to Camo
i’d agree
or to uh to Gin against Junior it has been a relatively small zone but then apparently he’s finding the edges swinging a foul straight back and it’s now nothing and two no balls two strikes i’ve distracted you i’m trying to think of all the other teams he might have played for i’m sticking with the under all right I’ll go with you just cuz I can’t think of any more teams he played for no no balls two strikes cavanero standing and waiting he’s down in the hole against Gin at the pitch outside and that’s good pitch by Gin seeing how far he can stretch the strike zone credit to Camra for taking it is one and two junior just missed one I thought his first time he went way up in the air second one though boy he didn’t miss any of and the one-two pitch outside again two and two he’s trying to pick that outside corner two balls two strikes tinkers in and sliders away or what pitchers have tended to do this year it’s the young junior coming and two and two bringing a foul tip of the plate i asked Kevin Casty what he thought of Jackson Holiday getting a chance to see him because to me like Holiday sometimes looks like he swings big and over swings other time not as much and he goes at age 21 that kid’s going to be a star he goes and not many can do what he can do at 21 and he goes but our guy can and Junior’s doing the same even better at age 21 the two pitch inside and low three and two no question about that one it’s full three and two so a full count to Junior Camro with Neil and I settling in on the under seven and a half teams from our Kate i just remember the look on his face when he struck out in the ninth against Price the pitch is called strike three how about that inning for JT Gin he got out Diaz me and Camro all with the same pitch in a similar spot strikes them all out looking we’ll have the answer when we come back at the end of five the A’s four and the Rays four on the Rays radio network life is
great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field

i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com the Weeble app or visit weeble.com today weeble Financial LLC member SIPC FINRA Investing involves risk more info weevil.com/disclosers and it’s now our Weeble call to the bullpen edwin Usaina coming on in what is a 4-4 game in the sixth mason Montgomery got the last out in the fifth for Paul Jerves who went one and two/3 we also have a trivia answer to get to you and first it will be Sodestrom then Muny and Aras against Edmunda the right-hander and his first pitch is popped up out of play foul all right so the question tonight was Mark Kay the manager of the A’s how many teams did he play for in his career and he Chris gave the line at seven and a half so Neil and I could not tie we like ties we ended up both taking the under there’s a swing and a miss the change up went way outside it’s not nothing to do and here’s the answer and wow well when you look at this Neil it is kind of seven and a half did you see the answer yet
yes I did
see what I mean though how it is kind of seven and a half
well you play for the same team twice so you’re only playing for one team
the O2 a swung and miss strike three what a gorgeous couple of change ups there from USA strike out Sodestrom up three pitches all right so he played for seven teams but he had eight different stints so he doubled up again with the Padres’s at the end of his career so he played for the Marlins Padres’s A’s
Braves Red Sox White Socks and Brewers thank you Skip mine is not close to the vers it hurts when I How in the world did Skip talk like that just I miss him i’m so glad I got a chance to meet him once his grandkid is here today Chris right we’ll make sure to say hello and a pitch is a strike over the outside and it is nothing at two to Max Muny and Chris did say good job nicely done we couldn’t even name the teams he played for we just guessed
we got a couple of them for I don’t remember one of the Brewers at all
oh not even close
oh and to the counter throws very high with a heater at 95 one ball two strike
i I think we got what the Marlins the A’s the Red Sox the White Socks and San Diego and then we just guessed
pretty much eight teams sounds like a lot but seven teams is down and one and two is a little bit low two balls two strikes nothing compared to Edwin Jackson though
played for half the lead and the late Octavio Dotel they both played for around half the lead two balls two strikes to Max Muny from the first base out of the rubber the leg kick the swivel and the pitch grounded slowly towards common at third he’s up with it couple of steps and wings it over with a first in time for out number two that’s boss for station identification now the Tampa Bay Rays radio network logan Deal Solons i’m Andy Freed steve Versnik is our engineer in the booth and Derek Deose in Edric Studios rays who were down four nothing have tied it four to four but now it’s Augawar in the sixth inning and first pitch is outside of Luis Aras and it’s 1 and0 and I emerge in the nightly battle of trivia questions furnished by Chris Adams wall we’ll do it tomorrow and then Wednesday afternoon also and Aras pops one up high in the air back to the plate out of play tomorrow is a little bit earlier 7:05 first pitch 633 game shane Vos against Jeffrey Springs
i may be texting you for trivia help when you’re doing television
okay
cuz Chris is doing the road trip with me i don’t know that I can uh do 10 in a row without you
happy to help with you neither it’s a swing and a miss frank two and it’s one and two
wednesday it’s a noon time game ryan Pepio the A’s have not announced their starter yet for Wednesday
why were we thinking it would be Mitch Spence because it would be his scheduled day now they might use an opener in front of him
because they want to put as many lefties against the Rays as possible is my guess oh that could be first a one and two on the way to Orias from USA is swung on a miss strike three and that’s one of the better innings in a while for Evan a right on right change up takes care of and this game remains tied through five and a half a’s four raise four on the take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the follow

well sometimes once you get into a little bit of duress is when you struggle he hasn’t had that yet
on one and0 swings and bounces one towards short a high hop for Wilson who throws him out at first with two away seven in a row for JT H and that’ll leave it for Jonathan Ronda so you got a lefty warming up in the bullpen and you got Jonathan Aronda who can certainly punch one out of the arm but they’re going to stay with Gin kind of in line with what you’re saying that’s he’s on a pretty good roll they’re going to stay with him and here is Aronda again out of the set and pitches and he’s got a cold strike again has also started four games this year whether it be opens or whatever so he’s a bit malleable it can put him in different situations so balls in a strike round it takes high and in when he came into the game it was first and second nobody out six straight guys had reached and the Rays had all the momentum in the world and he has stopped the Rays offense like the Rays bullpen has stopped the A’s count is even a one ball one strike to Aronda and a pitch on the way strike two called one and two one ball two strikes the gun to JT to Jonathan Arando jt Gin a lot of sinkers right at the top of the strike zone and not that’s you don’t see that a lot
no fooling a lot of the race hitters they’re giving up on that pitch
one ball two strikes here it comes swing on a miss he got him with a slider and put a terrific job tonight by JT Gin to the frustration of the Rays faces eight batters strikes out half of them and nobody reaches so now we suddenly go to the seventh still A’s and Rays tied at four on the Rays radio network introducing baseball’s all new national pregame show mlv tonight live at 5 join Greg Harold and Dan and a star roster for a preview of all the nights matchups get a first look at the lineups

smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com the totals A’s four runs six hits one error and four left rays four runs five hits no errors and two left we go to the seventh inning a defensive change to tell you about that and more neil Solen all right first pitch to Denzel Clark number nine batters a strike from Edwina nothing and one josh Low pinch hit for Christopher Morell he stays in the game in the outfield he’ll go to right field 01 slash foul to the right out of play it’s nothing at two and Jose Cavierro moves from right to left so one change in the lineup two changes in the field for the Rays so one and a half changes over or under depends how you want to look at it two strikes that count 46 and one for Oakland or excuse me for the A’s that’s strike number two or five and0 for the race
it’s weird not having a first name i’m sorry 02 pitches taken high one and two it’s like Prince or Madonna they’re just the A’s there’s no first name no last name it’s just one name
i was going to say share way to stay current
yeah oh she’s still relevant
one two swinging a foul tip off the plate danny Jansen couldn’t squeeze it it’s still one and two on Clark she’ll always be relevant she’s more relevant than Prince Mad well
probably yes I would say so even more so than Drake the way things have gone with his career lately here you go one two that’s taken just a little low I guess change up missed it’s two and two bottom of the zone one has not been open tonight home plate umpire John Tempaina his second inning a 1236 is 22 to start the seventh the pitch up and in it foul got it it nicks Clark on the elbow and he’ll go to first on a hit by pitch see if the Rays want a review kevin Cash says hold on one second he said no review so Clark a speedy guy is aboard the center fielder with Lawrence Butler coming play these lead off hit batters or walks late in games always seem to come back to bite you didn’t get him by much but just got that I call it the weaponry that he’s wearing has a pitch grounded back toward the mound handled by USA he looks to second instead flips to first gets the shore out gets Butler and the fact that Clark has all that great speed gets him into scoring position after the hit by pitch with one out in the seventh 4-4 game well when USA reared back to look and maybe throw to second that did not look like something good happening especially as fast as Clark was getting to second so did the right thing
he did but now he’s got to get probably one of the tougher hitters to deal with in terms of contact and a leader in the clubhouse for rookie of the year Jacob Wilson two for three singled and double and he takes a called strike a cutter nothing and one nine home runs and 40 batted in the Rays were down four nothing they tied it chasing Jacob Lopez in the fourth but they haven’t gotten another base runner since the the A’s have had more pressure on as a swing and a ball poked foul to the right and it’s nothing and two athletics had the bases loaded in the fifth with two out didn’t score and remember even when they went up four nothing they had first and third and none out didn’t get another run rays have only had runners on base and but one inning pretty much tonight 02 swinging a miss he got him with a good change up on the hands crusada strikes out one of the toughest guys to fan in the lead in Wilson on three pitches that’s a big second out here in the seventh inning and that’s seven strikeouts for Ray’s pitching
which means three more to go and get one free taco and chips at participating area of Flash locations visit painstrikeout.com for more info that change up though that gets swing and miss can get swing and miss against really anybody the human eye can only adjust so much brent Rooker a perfect night takes a slider outside for a ball a double to start a three-run rally in the first a riby single to make it four nothing in the third a walk in the fifth and now up in the seventh with Garrett Clevenger warming 10 chop foul off the plate one and one and one would think with Nick Curts a lefty on deck that that would be Clevenger’s opportunity whether this game is or this inning is extended or whether it’s Curts to start the eighth in runner at second two out 4-4 game infield to pull the pitch chopper foul off the plate good change up it’s one and two on Rooker quietly he’s had an all-star type year 17 home runs and 45 batted in designated hitter pin wheels the bat once and waits usa trying to finish two scoreless he deals swing and a miss he got him high heater nice job by Edwin USA he works around the lead off batter and strikes out the last two in the seventh and it’s time to stretch in Tampa rays four A’s four on the Race Baseball Network let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field

bottom part of the order for the Rays jose Caviro takes outside for a ball michael Kelly now getting loose kevin Kelly
kevin Kelly in the Well there’s a Michael Kelly in the athletics bullpen oh I’m sorry i thought you were talking about Kevin Kelly
no pardon me
we have dueling Kelly’s perhaps one
fast strike to Cabiro and it’s one and one
jt Gin is still on the mount and what’s been a weird game for the Rays offensively jacob Lopez retired the first 10 Rays hitters and then everybody reached six in a row as the Rays got their four runs 1-1 swing and a miss slider and it’s one and two and then JT Gin has retired eight in a row half of those hold strikeouts too meanwhile the Rays have struck out eight A’s two more to go and you get one free taco and chips at participating area on a flats location so visit K strikeout for more info cabayro had a bunt single to tie the game in the fourth he’s the last Ray to reach also lined out to short righty on righty gin ready and the pitch swing and a miss slider got him he’s down on strikes and there’s another punch out for Gin he’s retired all nine the ones through the order perfect he got Danny Jansen to pop out with twoon one out in that fourth inning to keep the game even then he’s continued the run ever since
this is in the third list for best outing of the year by JT also
a few outings ago he had three one hit innings with five strikeouts against the Astros so it’s in there
or shall we say it’s in there
ah as a pitch line in a left sinking but it’ll hang up long enough for the left fielder to make the grab barely having a move as Tyler Soderstrm and on that line drive out there’s two out as Jansen got a much better swing the second time up but now two out base is empty and it’s Taylor Wall stepping to the plate have had base runners in one inning tonight I mean it’s amazing that they’re tied in this game against the Athletics first of three 40th pitch of the night for Gin the pitch outside corner strike nothing in one the one good thing is we won’t have to see Gin after today in this series i can’t imagine he’d pitch tomorrow or with a day game the following day but he’s saving the bullpen
one strike pitch to Walls inside one and one couple of ground outs to short and a second to none ball’s in a little bit of a slump we told you he’s driven in 17 runs this month of his 27 but he’s in a 1 for6 stretch at the plate 1-1 with two down squares to Bunt pulls the bat back and it’s ball two it’s low they haven’t done a lot of that since the Cabierro bunt single third baseman Muny is back and wide of the bag so they’re really giving the bunt right now if you want to take it gin ready at 2-1 wall swings and chops it right to second rios and kneeh high hop on to first and the Rays go down in order yet again that’s 11 up 11 down for Gin we head to the eighth and it’s 44 Rays and A’s on the Rays baseball network take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i I really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game

michael Kelly the new pitcher for the Athletics and his first pitches of strike at 96 nothing and one
oh the bullpen brought to you by Weeble official online brokerage of the Ray
yandi Diaz the DH at the plate on base in 23 games in a row entering tonight he swings and chops this pitch toward the hole at short and a jump throw effort by Wilson but he can’t get it out of his hand and Diaz on an infield hit has been on base in 24 consecutive games and he is the go-ahead runner at first and I got to imagine Chandler Simpson’s going to be running for him here as much as I like Yachti lagging that out the Rays would much rather have the legs of Chandler Simpson trying to score here and they do so the first Rays base runner since the fourth inning and out to the mound goes Shay Langalers to have a chat with Michael Kelly
brandon Lou Bass for me so Ray’s had the situation they want hottest hitter at the plate fastest runner on base and a tie game late
21 steals for Chandler kelly missed the early part of the schedule you remember there were several players who were suspended for violating the league’s betting policy and Kelly was among them since returning he’s been a guy the Athletics can count on he is not allowed to run in eight appearances over nine and a third innings only five hits now four walks and seven strikeoutins can you run on him we’ll see simpson starts then stops and a fast ball high one and0 pretty quick release to the plate by Kelly and Simpson smart to shut it down there granite allow one pinch hit homer among his 18 this year the only pinch hit homer for the Rays is a quick toss to first simpson a short lead dives back safely
we saw earlier when they were speed on the bases for the Rays the A’s defense tightened up rays lead the majors in steals simpson edges off kelly set he goes 10 is high throw to second is Wild and not in time it was to the third base side of the bag on the go-ahead run in scoring possession now
nope
no they say he was They say he came off no no he didn’t call time
pardon me
to go to get his helmet
my apologies Neil i thought that they had reversed it saying that he came off the base because Wilson kept his glove on and Chandler ran off the base my apologies
no worries 22 steals now for Chandler he’s only been caught four times and now the go-ahehead run in scoring position with nobody out it was a ball so it’s two and0 on Lao a base hit will give the Rays the lead kelly delivers way high and it’s 3 and 0 so an infield hit and a stolen base nothing hit out of the infield the Rays with productive outs can take the lead and now they’re going to intentionally walk Brandon Laauo and that’ll bring Junior Commo to the plate and he has hit into 21 double plays to lead the majors [Music] wanted no par to Brandon Laauo with a three-0 count all right with a righty at the plate would Chandler consider trying to steal third here get to third with less than two out
interesting to me you know a lot of base steelers or runners whatever their helmet comes off as they’re running the B his comes off immediately
the burst of speed seems to knock that helmet off maria’s keeping him close at second that’s Simpson the pitchstick Jr taken all the way a strike a slider nothing in one junior a two-run homer that cut the Rays four nothing deficit in half at four to two it was their first hit he struck out and flyed to left the other at bats 21 homers 53 RBI’s both leading the team 01 to the 21-year-old swinging a hard hit ball to third stab by the third baseman he goes to third throws across and it’s perfect and it’s 22 double plays hit into by Junior Comanro that was a one hop bullet to Max Muny who made the play just hit in the wrong spot and now with Josh Low coming up I think that manager Marseay is going to go lefty on lefty with Josh Low do up tell you what if Muny was playing even closer to the bag that might have been a triple play there was that was in play there but it turns into a double play and now coming out is Michael Kelly we’ll tell you about the new lefty for the athletics after this in a 4-4 game in the eighth this is the Race Baseball Network

that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 here moments like this and more on the ML we will call on the bullpen Shawn Nukem her earlier this year with the Red Sox went four and two/3 shutout in a one- nothing Red Sox win over the Rays now he’s on the A’s and he’ll face Josh Low with Lao at second and two out in a 4-4 tie in the bottom half of the eighth tough matchup let’s see if Josh can come through the pitch taken called strike fast ball at 95 nothing and one nukem was more of a soft boxer when we saw him earlier in this year but in this spot asked really just to air it out he’s been dominating lefties since joining the A’s pitching in relief swinging a slider lines toward left falling quickly it’s going to drop on a short hop for a base hit rounding third coming home la throw home they got him a perfect throw on the money from Kobe Thomas in his big league debut lao came to the inside part of the plate and I think Langelier’s got the tag down i don’t think the Rays will review this and they will not so Lao Low comes through lao thrown out and the inning comes to a close 44 Rays and A’s we go to the ninth on the Rays baseball network vani Diaz swings it the first one lifts you to the warming track celebrate your Venezuelan heritage with the Rays on Wednesday July 2nd

thank you Neil and just to go back think Kobby Thomas big league debut first inning he’s ever in the field throws out the potential go-ahead run from the outfield to keep the game tie quite a moment for Kobe Thomas here’s Fairbanks against Muny to lead it off and a swing and a base hit up the middle by Muny first pitch and laces it up the middle a hard single to start the the Athletics nine and now I would think that Luis Urias might be bunning here to try and get that go-ahead run in scoring position and you have Clark after that the number nine man they do have couple of pinch hitters available but all right-handed we’ll see what they do with Muny at first he’s got a big very big lead over there and the Razers started to charge as the bunt is on and it’s a cold strike he pulled the bunt back and the count one strike r almost had a full rotation play on there arondo is charging and Lao was heading toward first with walls toward second was charging in hard from third also ara squares as Fairbanks hasn’t even come set now he does and pitches that’s strike two called on the outside 0 and two
all right and now question is do you even consider trying to bunt when you haven’t even made contact on these first two with two strikes
i’m curious about why you square and take two pitches when they’re both right there and in fact bottom of the zone so he’s can’t imagine be running again it is 0 and two he’s not and he lines a base hit to left center field that’s better than anything muny is around second and he will make third and the A’s get first and third with nobody out here in the ninth that’s a perfect pitch too it’s 98 at the top very top part of the zone
but I guess he wanted to get it maybe out of the zone and give us credit for getting on top of this pitch
this is almost at the shoulders
going to be very hard to prevent the go-ahad run from scoring at first and third and nobody out infield has to come all the way in muny at third base aras at first denzel Clark the number nine man stands in right-hand hitter Banks and his first pitch to him he squares and chops a bunt at the plate foul ball 0 and one think it hit the plate and then went backwards no balls one strike fairbanks throwing strikes all five pitches in the zone but he’s in a lot of trouble here in this ninth inning clark lined hard to right struck out and then hit by a pitch no balls in a strike to Clark see if he’s bunning again banks at the belt now throws the bun is on he takes a strike two and it’s 0 and two well they’re 0 for three on trying to lay bunts down in this inning but the last time they were 02 they got a base hit down is two strikes clark out of the box looking now to Eric Martins the third base goes for the A’s i think in this situation you don’t want to you want to see if you can get Clark to chase right here strike out will be fantastic the guy on deck Butler also strikes out alive that’s kind of the the key to get Fairbanks through this with a tie intact 44 runners at the corners infield in the O2 pitch to Clark is taken low breaking ball the really good pitch just missed the bottom part of the zone and credit to Clark for taking it
i don’t know how he took that i mean he was frozen one and two to Clark fairbanks wiggles the legs to a stop first base side of the rubber he pitches and that breaking ball is low two and two and with Mason Miller the fine hardth throwing closer for the A’s warmed up they’re trying to get him in it’s two and two to the right hand batting Clark runners take their leads at first and third and a two-2 delivery fly ball out of play down the right field line two and two to the counter
well Pete’s strikeout his velocity is there but his strikeouts this year are down and this is where you desperately need the punch out especially when you got a spot like this two and two again fairbanks the tall right-hander comes to the pause and throws inside three and two moving but that’s a ball
definitely missed up and in sold out crowd tonight it’s Stein Brener Field trying to wield that thing into the zone but it was around the zone from 0 and two it’s now three and two to Clark Fairbags to the play swing and a Mitsy struck him out and there’s one that strike out pete Fairbanks and his wife Lydia had donate $100 to the Turner Syndrome Foundation with the Race Baseball Foundation matching the donation it’s also 10 strikeouts go to canstrikeout.com for your printed home voucher bring it to kane’s furniture within 5 days get a coupon for a free taco and chips a participating area to one of Flat’s locations restrictions apply strikeout.com for more now with one out Max Schuman will go out and run at first base for Luis Aras so the Maxes are on muny at third Schuman at first and here’s Lawrence Butler who’s a very very good hitter but at the same time has struck out 99 times already this year including twice today he’s also singled and scored he bats left-handed with the infield in Juman away at first muny from third and the first pitch check swing at the slider it’s a cold strike 0 and one
i was just about to ask do you try the butt play again
certainly could go balls one strike down to Butler comes in shallow now more shallow at third he was looking for some instruction from the dugout the stretch from Fairbanks schuman run so the pitch is a strike and no throw down to second it’ll be a stolen base even though it really was kind of indifferent to the Ray the count is 0 and two to Butler now a single would probably score a pair 0 and2 the count here’s Fairbanks is offering fly ball out of play off third big swing by Butler on 0 and two they foul it away no balls two strikes it remains
it was not where Pete wanted to go with that that’s an 02 fast ball that was the very center of the plate nothing two banks gets the grip that he wants and pitches and a swing and a foul tip right out of the middle of Jansen and it stays nothing at two
that’s closer to where he wanted it right at the tippy top of the strike zone i would even like to see him go a baseball or two up and out of the zone because young hitter he might get a little bit anxious here nothing into the count muny at third base the go-ahad run schuman at second an insurance run fairbanks pitches fly ball left center field into the alleyway and splits Mangum and Caviierro and goes to the wall two A’s runs are home and flying to third is Butler with a two-run triple and it’s six to four A’s in the ninth that thing was whacked by Lawrence Butler
well it was a hanging slider he did what you should do with a hanging slider just went right to the top of the zone but certainly not where Pete wanted to put that well
to get it between Caviar and Mangum you got to hit it just perfectly and he did and now he’s at third butler is the hero for the moment for the A’s and now Jacob Wilson comes up with the infield still in makes his 340 average even higher and he swings and grounds one to Walls he’s coming home the tag by Jansen out at the plate butler is retired wilson reaches on the play perfect throw by Walls you had to be extra perfect with that because you got a speedy runner you got to throw into the runner and have Jansen chance to make that tag and he did so it’s 64 A’s two out in the ninth mason Miller will be facing Mangum Miranda and Cababayro in the bottom of the ninth and here is Brent Rooker a’s aren’t done yet wilson at first and the pit swung on the miss it’s two and one three hits in the inning against Fairbanks that hasn’t happened too often this year big hitting in the 170s against them coming into the night and they are now an 0 and one breaking ball strike two called it’s 0 and2
and two of those three hits Andy 02 pitches meanwhile the Blue Jays have held on and beaten the Yankees 5-4 on the visit Tampa Bay out of town scoreboard the Rays if they don’t win won’t lose ground to the Yanks but Blue Jays would get to within a half game 0 and2 the count to Brent Rooker and Boston’s blown their game open in the ninth at home against the Reds they led big most of the way wilson with a is picked off at first aronda will run him towards second base flip to La who tags him out and the side retired saw caught stealing it goes 1 to3 to four but Lawrence Butler’s two-run triple has given the A’s the lead mason Miller on for the bottom of the ninth see if the race can do anything against him when we return on the Rays Radio Network

he threw a lot of strikes tonight but maybe a couple where he didn’t want he’ll be interesting to listen to for sure in our postgame show coming up and it’s the first time Neil you know we always look for perspective first time since June 10th and 11th that the Raids have lost two straight games they are human right i mean and the last time they did that they went out and swept the Mets so who knows what this team is we know this team is capable of bouncing back very quickly the two-run triple by the way by Lawrence Butler that was the difference is our St pete Clearwater play of the game just like a perfect day on one of America’s favorite beaches that play was unforgettable plan your next getaway visit sbc.com
all right well maybe the Rays were due for something like this they swept the Royals and then they’ve only played last place teams since and lost three of those four it’s it’s the the riding the wave of the season and they end June with a bit of a thud
it it sometimes will happen look the Marlins have won what seven in a row the Pirates just swept the Mets who were for a while the best team in the National League all major league teams can win games and you got to be able to play your game every single day you got to be ready to play and I think the Rays were it’s just the A’s today were better all right so it ends up being about the Blue Jays tonight they pulled to within half a game of the Rays and the Rays stay one and a half out of first in the AL East nothing we can do about it now Neil just listen to the postgame show and then we’ll watch A’s and Rays tomorrow we’ll see you then sounds good here are the final totals for the victorious A’s who hail from California they get six runs nine hits one error and five left for the losing Rays four runs eight hits no error as they left three the winning pitcher is Shawn Nukem two and four the loss to Pete Fairbanks three and two mason Miller with a 16th save time of the game 2 hours 24 minutes in front of 10,046 a sellout here Stein Burner Field the Rays go back to 9 over now 47 and 38 for the season while the A’s go to 35 and 52 so that’ll set things up for game two of the series tomorrow night shane Vos for the Rays jeffrey Springs of full goes for the A’s 6:30 with the pregame show 705 first pitch do we need an ID we need an ID let’s first pause for station identification on the Tampa Bay Rays radio network reminder once again tomorrow pregame show first pitch 705s Shane Bos for the Rays and Jeffrey Springs for the A’s the producers of Tampa Bay Rays baseball are Chris Miller and Becca Carney thanks to Steve Vernick here in the booth and Derek Deb and our network studios and now for Neil Solons I’m Andy Freed in Tampa thanking you for listening once again and the final score it was the A’s six and the Rays four stay tuned chris Adams wall is the postgame show coming up next on the Rays radio network

to be fixed and he swings and lifts one in the air to deep left field moving back as Morell to the wall jumps up and makes the catch to retire the side christopher Morell just took a three-run homer away don’t go anywhere we bring you inside the clubhouse for reaction to today’s game plus it’s time for your voice to be heard as we take your phone calls and comments a Rays postgame show starts right now well it just was not the Rays night tonight in their series opener against the Athletics 64 the A’s take it and welcome in to the Rays Radio postgame show everybody I’m Chris Adams Wall with Derek Deose back in our network studios and our keys to the game are presented as always by Crown Automotive the better way to pie for over 50 years and official car and truck dealer of the Tampa Bay Rays since the beginning well the A’s jumped all over Drew Rasperson in the first inning tonight he started for the Rays he only went three innings in this one he allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts it was a very uncharacteristic Drew Rasmmanson outing because it was so short and because the A’s were able to capitalize on some two out occurrences in fact Raspersonson did start the game pretty well he struck out Lawrence Butler the first batter he saw tonight then he got Jacob Wilson to ground out 6-3 on a nice play there by the Rays shortstop Taylor Walls but then with two outs and nobody on Brent Rooker doubled and then Nick Curts walked and you had two runners on and two outs then Shane Langalers hit a three-run home run over the left center field wall and just like that it was three nothing A’s and then in the third the A’s got three straight hits against Drew Ras three straight singles in fact capped off by a Brent Rooker RBI single and so they had a four nothing lead did the A’s going into the bottom of the third and thankfully Paul Jerves came on and went one and two/3 scoreless innings for Tampa Bay kept it a four nothing ball game and then in the bottom of the fourth the Rays had a little rally of their own and it actually started with Yandi Diaz smoking a ball to the A’s second baseman Luis Urias who made a really nice play on it so that was the first out but then there was a walk thrown by the former Ray Jacob Lopez who was perfect through the first three and one/3 innings tonight but he walks Curtis me the number two batter in the order and then junior Kamro launched home run number 21 off the lefty and just like that the Rays were back in it having cut that four nothing deficit in half christopher Morell then followed up with a single jake Mangum did the same thing then Jonathan Oronda came through with an RBI single to make it a 4-3 game and then Jose Caviierro laid down that beautiful bunt that that turned into an RBI single and that tied the game at four so just like that the Rays were right back in it and for them to come back from four runs down I mean that’s tough to do against any big league team but especially against a guy who has been throwing as well as Jacob Lopez but that was it for him after that RBI single the southpaw came out of the game but then it was JT Gin who came on for the A’s and he really did some nice work against the Rays in fact Gin ended up going three and two/3 innings tonight three and two/3 perfect innings also and he picked up five strikeouts the Rays just struggled to get anything going they did have an opportunity to take that lead in the eighth inning there was the base hit with two outs off the bat of Josh Low into left center field and then wouldn’t you know it a guy who was making his big league debut tonight he came on as a pinch hitter in the top of the eighth this is of course Kby Thomas for the A’s he popped out to Jonathan Aronda in the top of the eighth but then in the bottom of the eighth inning he got that tough in between bounce off the bat of Josh Low the base hit Brandon Laauo motored around third tried to score and Thomas just threw a P to Shay Langalers who tagged out Brandon Laauo i mean if the Rays score there do they win tonight probably right i think Pete Fairbanks comes on i know that he ends up with the loss tonight but it’s a tie game i think Pete probably prefers to pitch when the Rays have the lead i think any closer would but tonight he came in in a 4-4 game and he allowed two runs on three hits it happens doesn’t mean he’s not having a great season he is but the game kind of changed on that throw by Colobby Thomas that was a beautiful throw in there by the A’s left fielder to do that in your big league debut pretty impressive but in the ninth inning it was the A’s with a single from Maxy and then another one from Luis Urias denzel Clark struck out that was a good pitch by Pete Fairbanks but then Lawrence Butler tagged one into the left center field alley that turned into a two-run trip dribble that broke the 4-4 tie and the Rays were unable to get much of anything going in the bottom of the ninth against Mason Miller one of the hardest throwers in baseball jonathan Aronda did single with one out in that bottom of the ninth but the A’s end up turning a 643 double play and that was it and you know what it’s still okay the Rays didn’t lose any ground on the New York Yankees tonight thankfully they lost but they did lose to the Toronto Blue Jays who are now a half game behind the Rays in the American League East standings so everything just gets a little bit tighter but this is how we wrap up the month of June three more months to go after this almost the halfway point we’re actually a little bit farther along of the halfway point this is game number 85 tonight still think you have to like where the Rays are 47 and 38 even after this defeat and this was just the second time since they started this run they’re currently on on May 20th now 26 and 12 since that date where they have lost back-to-back games think about that last time they did that was June 10th and 11th in Boston now they’ve done it in Baltimore on June 29th and at home against the A’s the good news is the Rays can still win the series and that’s kind of all you have to do at this point just keep winning series so hopefully the Rays will be able to bounce back tomorrow but we do want to hear from you on the Spectrum fan line that number is 1888-5464620 that’s 1885464620 spectrum has built the network you need kevin just what do you think got away from Drew today or or just you know just what did you think make of his outing today
he sets the bar really really high i mean we we kind of all grown to expect he’s going to go out there and just dominate and it’s not that easy it’s not as easy as he’s made it look today they did a good job of having big at bats got some guys on rooker smokes the ball down the line uh I think somebody was already on and then Langlers comes up um you know just getting activated and and solid pitch he could hit and for the big three-run homer i mean that early on was a separator after that I thought he was okay kind of navigated through the third inning I believe where it could have been a lot more first and third no out and we ended up giving up one run in instead of multi so happy that we were able to keep it there
on the other end though junior uh 21 now home runs for him just how did he help get that offense going in the fourth
yeah I mean look we knew coming in Jacob Lopez is throwing the ball really well for them lately uh he’s got a a lot of deceptiveness to his delivery where the ball just jumps out of his hands and it kind of takes a you know a time through to make those adjustments i think that’s what we saw from the lineup cammy you know expanded maybe early on in that at bat and then got a pitch he could handle and hit it off the batter’s eye to to really get us going
what was the thought with Drew being done after three
you know we’ve done it in the past and I I thought with you know um with where he’s at workload we’re going to monitor that and I know it’s going to be an ongoing conversation but that to me looked like an opportunity to get him out of the ball game i mean rather than grind through two more innings to get through five just felt like hey maybe we can reset it right here and knew that we had coverage in the bullpen the bullpen did a tremendous job of keeping it right there so I mean he’s totally fine
what did you see from Pete in the ninth hadn’t really had many innings like this pete has been so good for us uh you know it’s the way baseball works sometimes jans and I were talking two bunts or attempts 02 leaves or not even left i think he was trying to go up and Urias did a nice job of getting on top of it uh the one pitch he’d probably like to have back he just left the breaking ball up to Butler for the big double but I mean again Pete has been outstanding for us he’s done a good job of executing pitches controlling the zone and pretty dominant so um he’ll get right back out there
the play at the plate in the eighth I’m guessing you like the send there just good throw by them to
That’s a heck of a play by their left fielder for all that coming in below got a great jump brady did a great thing sending them we want to put pressure the ball you know short hopped right in i mean the most impressive part was the body control to get rid of the ball and put it right on the plate for a team that has manufactured runs in so many different ways that was a pretty bizarre eighth inning to send four guys to the plate three of them reach base and somehow you don’t score a run
yeah it it was I mean the third baseman made a nice play cammy smoked the ball down the line um they it was I mean when we’re first and second no out i think our entire dugout expects that we’re going to score one or multiple runs it just didn’t happen tonight good oh with Yandi’s infield single tonight uh he becomes just one of three race players to log a 400 batting average for a month uh what can you say about uh who he is as a veteran and just his constant production and the standard he sets
yeah constant consistent i mean it’s he’s a special hitter there’s no doubt and you know to win a batting title i think that was the first batting title ever for the Rays and then you know to do what he’s done this month really his entire career as a Tampa Bay Ray has been pretty spectacular but I know he’s riding the high right now of seeing the ball well and getting a lot of hits so congrats to Yandi for sure
thanks coach yeah how about that yandi Diaz hit 400 during the month of June yeah think he’s back for sure but that was race manager Kevin Cash look the A’s I guess had more big at bats tonight than the Tampa Bay Rays just think about the three-run home run by Shane Langalers alone i mean that accounted for half of their runs on one swing then they got the RBI single from Brent Rooker and then of course the tiebreaking two-run triple off the bat of Lawrence Butler this A’s team I know their record isn’t all that good but you do have to admire some of the talent that they have on this roster whether it’s Butler Wilson Rooker Curts Langalers Sodestrom and now apparently we’re going to have to look out for Kobe Thomas who made his big league debut tonight and threw out Brandon Laauo at the plate as the Rays tried to break that same 4-4 tie in a little bit we will hear from Drew Rasmusen who Kevin Cash just talked about but we do want to open up the Spectrum fan line for the first time tonight at 1888-5464620 that’s 1888-5464620 and we’re going to lead it off tonight with someone new we’ll go to Brent in St pete what’s going on Brent hey how you doing and I you know I like Cash a lot but I you know I got a little bit of criticism because he seems to take these pitchers out when they’re pitching good you know why I to me like Cleinger he got three outs and then he takes them out and then the next pitcher gets two runs so I I just don’t understand why he has to take out pitchers so religiously like that if they’re doing good why can’t he keep them in an extra inning well I think the plan there was
too yeah go ahead Brent i’m sorry yeah he took him out after two pitches you know i I just didn’t see that i mean I know they got the left hand left-handed batter thing but still but anyway go ahead
yeah I think I think by Clevenger you mean Clevenger and asta whatever you said Usetta who went two innings tonight and he pitched really well so Cash actually went with him for two innings and he normally does not go any longer than that and they were two perfect innings for Edwin USA Garrick Clevenger he almost never goes two innings i mean it happens sometimes but I think you want to go with Pete Fairbanks in that situation we heard Kevin Cash talking about it how good Pete Fairbanks has been this season and not that he was due for an outing like this where he gave up a couple of runs but it is going to happen from time to time and that’s just the way that it went tonight so I don’t think you can criticize Kevin Cash i mean he did everything he needed to do in this ball game and taking Drew Ras out after three innings I think was a really good idea like you said it gives you him a chance to reset and they had coverage tonight and the bullpen did pretty well tonight yeah I agree with that but I don’t agree with you on the the Clevelander and the uh
Cleger yep garrick Clevenger anyway Brent we’re we got to let you go because we got to get some other people here on the Spectrum fan line 1888-5464620 that’s 1888-5464620 and we’ll go to Rich in Lando Lakes who I think knows that it’s Clevenger rich I sure do clevenger correct chris uh good interview today on the afternoon ride with Tom you were the interviewee instead of the interviewer solid stuff i enjoyed that so I’m proud of the team for coming back four nothing down then Junior hits two on homer splits it in half single single single and then a steal and a bunt so it’s kind of a combination of you know the deep threat and then some small ball good comeback i like the fight and then the bullpen was real solid too but um and it just wasn’t h going to happen i mean they had the eighth inning they had their chance it didn’t work i hope they’re not taking this team lightly because every time every single time they play this team whatever they call themselves the A’s Athletics Oakland they always play us tough the record’s not much they’re always below 500 but they come in and they play hard so I hope that it was kind of a wakeup call i don’t think they took them lightly but you know it wasn’t their aame tonight so let’s come back tomorrow and get back on track we don’t want two losses to turn into five or six and we got Shane going so that’s a good thing he’s been pitching very well but they got Jeffrey going he’s going to have a chip on his shoulder tomorrow so we’ll see what happens thanks man you have a great night
hey thanks very much Rich appreciate the kind words regarding the Draz interview that was a lot of fun to do and you talked about the bullpen let me just go back to what Brent was talking about when you consider the fact that Drew Rasmusson went just three innings tonight and the bullpen pitched six innings and allowed just two runs like that’s a nice job done by the bullpen and the Rays offensively they did a great job to come back from four runs down that’s not easy to do and like I said at the beginning of the show tonight this is a good A’s team despite their record of 35 and 52 it’s a talented A’s team I will say that and I think Jacob Lopez probably had a chip on his shoulder tonight he kind of let it all unravel there in the fourth so give the Rays credit for that but Jeffrey Springs probably will also just because the Rays did trade both of them in order to to get Joe Bole right so just keep your eye on that i think the Rays are certainly not taking this team lightly losses are going to happen it’s inevitable it’s a long season and this is the last home stand for a while at Stein Burner Field in fact after Wednesday which is an afternoon game the Rays just have one other home stand remaining in the month of July then they have just two in August and two more in September so yeah just five more home stands to go here in the 2025 season it’s crazy right just how fast it is going but that also means a lot more road games for the Rays and the good news is they’ve played pretty well on the road also over their last 22 games the Rays have lost have won 16 of them over their last 22 home games I should say they’ve still won 16 of them so they’re playing well at home also but we thank you again for the call rich let’s go next to Michael in Daytona Beach who I believe was at the game tonight with his son Adakus what’s going on Michael hey Chris yep attakus and I are here uh navigating the parking lot at the moment hey um I wanted to say some Attakus pointed this out he goes “Dad you know if they hadn’t caught some of those crazy catches and those would have landed as hits we pro that would have probably been a pretty good mitigating factor towards winning this game this was uh I’ll tell you what I found it a very very exciting game we didn’t move out of the seats and just enjoyed watching these guys play some hard baseball tonight i mean I I I think with the A’s uh you got to be careful these guys are dangerous they got nothing really going on for him except to spoil the Rays game so uh Ray’s up thanks for taking the call and uh Attakus was on time he was ready when we got there so uh Christy take care brother enjoy the show
all right we we love it and good job Attekus and punctuality that’s an important quality to have and I’m sure your dad is very happy that you were on time and I’m glad that you both got a chance to take in the game together tonight at Steinburner Field sorry it didn’t
