TY JEROME SIGNS WITH THE MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
all right so the Cavs have officially lost Ty Jerome or at least they did last night He signed officially with the Memphis Grizzlies And there’s been a lot of conversation right some people are happy that the Cavs have let Tai Jerome walk Some people have been very upset at the Cavs for letting Ty Jerome walk I don’t know which one of those camps would be proven to be true I tend to think Ty Jerome is a pretty impactful player to this Cavs team There is an angle of this that I don’t think nearly enough people have had a conversation around which is right now every single conversation being had about Ty Jerome is under the assumption that Tai was willing to come back to Cleveland for the same money as Sam Merrill And the reason that assumption exists is because he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies for a similar amount of money I would pose that it’s not that simple and that part of what might have happened here for Cleveland is that they pissed Ty Jerome off with how they handled him in the final game of the postseason I think that has to be factored in to any conversation we’re going to have I’m not going to wait for the Tai Jerome podcast in 6 months where he brings that up and then people start thinking about it to have the conversation right or to get permission to have the conversation I think that’s a big part of it and you’re allowed to speculate on it based on everything that we saw because as much as there didn’t seem to be much energy for the Cavs to bring back Tai it didn’t seem like there was much energy from Tai to come back to Cleveland And I wonder at some point that they realized both sides or at least one of these sides did not want to come back together And I’m willing to bet it was more than likely Ty Jerome who wasn’t willing to come back to Cleveland not because he didn’t like Cleveland but because he got played at the final game of the season Now some people might hear that and hope that’s not the case or think that Ty Jerome is above all of this or anything else I want y’all to remember that these guys are athletes And when I say these guys are athletes I mean these guys are competitors There is no justification to somebody who has competed at a high level to being benched You can justify it with all the reason in your in the world for why a player needs to be benched I’ve heard every justification for why Ty Jerome needed to be benched in that Pacer series He was bad He was the worst player on the floor in the Pacers series But the reality is Ty Jerome was a core piece of this team a core reason for this team success He was a six-man of the year candidate and he’s not somebody you bench because you have a couple of bad shooting splits with Ty Jerome spent months building the reputation that got him to the point to where he was um in the rotation in Cleveland and a point of importance in Cleveland You cannot allow three games to erase that And what Kenny Aterson did was allow three games to erase that I understand in the postseason there’s always going to be pressure to be react reactionary but you can’t be ultra reactionary in the playoffs And benching your six-man award winner for Craig Porter Jr in the final game of the season I thought was one of the more underrated poor coaching decisions that Kenny Aerson made And I think that decision will we will find out played a role in what happened with Ty Jerome and why the Cavs could not keep Ty Jerome Now if you think I’m wrong on this tell me does this sound unrealistic does this sound like it’s impossible like you think Ty Jerome got benched and was thrilled about it go back and watch Ty Jerome on the bench in game five and see if that looks like a man who’s thrilled and understands the consequence of playing a couple of bad games in the playoffs Like really look at him No player by the way would be happy to be benched in that scenario You can name me any of your favorite players that you think would handle it with maturity or whatever you want to put on them Nobody would handle that well That’s not something anybody handles well you in the audience maybe you got benched on your team in high school or middle school or AU wherever it was I bet you look like Ty Jerome but you’re pretty furious because if you played really well and then you got benched cuz you had a couple bad moments you’re going to feel cheated I know people that didn’t even play highle basketball that are still upset about benchings that happened to them when they were in high school Okay they’re 30 years old now So to act like this is an impossible thing to have happened I think is kind of ridiculous And the fact that nobody has even thought to ask the question hey did Kenny kind of like screw up massively on this and look I understand Kenny has had a great year and we’re in give Kenny his flowers mode And I’m not trying to get Kenny ran out of town or anything like that but I do try to be fair If I like a coach I’m going to also criticize a coach And I like Kenny as a coach I think Kenny does a lot of great things and when Kenny does great things I am not shy of singing his praises But I think the move he made with Ty Jerome was a very costly one and a move he absolutely did not have to do Like it wasn’t anything that the Pacers were doing that was making him miss shots He was just missing shots Kenny should understand you got to let him shoot through it It might have frustrated you at home but that’s what Phil Jackson does right that’s what the championship winning coaches do It’s like hey I’m not going to just abandon Tony Parker because he had three bad games in a series That’s not how it’s going to work Maybe you reduce his minutes but bench him entirely That’s crazy That was a horrific coaching move by Kenny Aerson I don’t care if it was popular at the time There are a lot of things that are popular at the time horrible after the fact This is one of those moves It was a awful move and it’s probably going to be seen to have consequences down the line Now this is going to tank the Cavs season They still have a chance to do whatever it is I have made this point repeatedly What’s going to determine the Cavs ability to win a championship this year is Evan Mobley You can change some small pieces along the edges and it might make it easier for Evan Mobley to help you win a championship It might make it harder for Evan Mobley to help win you a championship but at the end of the day Evan Mobley is going to be the main story of why the Cavs win a championship if they ever do So I’m not going to say this takes the Cavs out their window It makes them a team It puts them in a tougher position They got to find a way to replace the production off the bench that Ty Jerome provided which was phenomenal again at a six-man award winner level And like yeah you got DeAndre Hunter who was also up there but you don’t have anybody who can really get their own shot You got people who can help people get their own shot And again maybe the idea from Kenny Aterson here is we’re gonna allow Evan Mobley to get the ball more with the second unit and he’s going to power the bench in in in a quasi kind of move where it’s like okay Donovan and Darius handle the first unit and then Evan handles that second unit with scoring and maybe that gets you through the regular season Maybe they go out and they get Russell Westbrook There’s a ton of ways you can replace it But if you’re mad about Ty Jerome not coming back to Cleveland you can point at Kobe Alman but there’s a chance that Kobe had no real say in that Well not no real say There’s a chance that Kobe was not able to bring back Ty Jerome because Ty Jerome did not want to come back because Kenny benched him There’s a good chance that that’s the case Or at least if Ty Jerome were to agree to come back it would have to be for a deal that was significantly above market because you benched him in the final game of the season because the internet told you to Like that is going to be a move I remember when I saw it I thought to myself damn we just saw the last of Tai Jerome in Cleveland That’s why this news doesn’t shock me because you benched a guy in game five inherently internally that just shows a lack of trust in him You know you’re basically confirming every fear in Ty Jerome’s head that you think this [ __ ] is a fluke with Ty Jerome That’s why you were so willing to bench him right like other players who have established things would not get benched in that scenario We can point out his stats all to live long day But if instead of his name being Ty Jerome and his name was Russell Westbrook he wouldn’t have got benched because I’ve seen Russell play like that right the name value mattered and you told yourself “Hey look Ty Jerome we think it’s a fluke We’re going to bench him It’s over The magic’s over Cinderella uh her glass slipper fell off It’s over.” in that move in moves like it have long affecting consequences Now it might be the case that this didn’t spur Ty Jerome to not want to come back to Cleveland You know I don’t know why we are talking about this as if the Cavs are the only ones who had say over the agency of Ty Jerome There’s a good chance Tai had some say over this as well Um and once they found out Tai did not want to come back they brought in Sam Merrill We’ll see if these moves work out We’ll see if these pivots work out We’ll see why it is the Cavs were not able to bring back Ty Jerome Um but all I know is that before the Pacers series it seemed like everything was pointing up with the Tai Jerome um staying in Cleveland Everybody was saying good things about it happening and then he got benched and all of a sudden every week you’re hearing it’s further and further apart I mean I just basic common sense tells me you got to look at the benching and see if that we got to at least ask the question if the benching affected anything And I think that’s the part of this whole conversation that’s baffled me is nobody is asking that question Everybody’s just making the assumption that the Cavs were the ones who didn’t want to bring back Tai And that might be the case There’s a good chance that’s the case but the benching might have had an effect on this And we should we should investigate that We should investigate that This is why I’m not a big fan of benching core players in very situational moments right every time somebody’s going through a shooting split there’s a knee-jerk reaction guy in the comments and wants to bench everybody This is why I don’t like doing that because if you don’t show trust in their guys when they are struggling they’re going to remember that Like these are not computer programs on 2K or some [ __ ] like that Like you could bench somebody on 2K they’re not going to remember that you did that [ __ ] These are human beings though like they’re going to remember getting benched Every athlete who’s played any level of sports remembers every single time they got benched Even if you weren’t good at the sport which most of us watching weren’t you remember getting benched and it was more than likely the case that you deserve to got bit to get benched and you still remember that [ __ ] And we’re just acting like him getting benched in the biggest game of the season We we gonna act like that’s not that’s not a factor in this We we not even gonna question whether there’s a role being played in here I don’t know I don’t know I I feel like I want to know more about if that played a role in this whole thing Um because if it did then Kenny just I mean it’s the worst decision he made in the playoffs on top of a lot of bad decisions he made in that series But that’s that’s a abysmal coaching decision there by Kenny If that is actually what led to them not being able to keep Tai if they actually wanted to give Tai the Sam Merrell contract Couldn’t give him the Sam Merrill contract because he didn’t want it because you benched him And I think Tai’s well within his rights to feel that way by the way Yeah If I got benched like that and the team came back talking about we’re going to offer you a market value deal Get the [ __ ] out of my face Like what you embarrass me on the biggest stage that we had all season and you think I’m going to come crawling back for some money I can get at [ __ ] Met Memphis who going to play me more and not bench me in game five of the playoffs go [ __ ] yourself That’s what I would tell the Cavs So like this is what most athletes would tell the Cavs in that situation By the way this is why you got to think more about if you’re going to bench somebody than just ah [ __ ] they had a couple bad shooting nights This is why you got to think more about it in my opinion is a human nature side of this And the most disappointing thing about that to me was Kenny Aerson This is his bag is human relationships I feel like I felt like that’s what he helped and did the best And for him to fail at that in that moment is concerning We’ll see what happened But that’s my two cents on it Um you know I I think that had a factor I don’t know if it did I’m just speculating I’m not working off of sources I’m not reporting that this was the thing I’m just saying when I look at it from a human point of view When I think about it from Tai Jerome’s side I ask the question a lot of why the [ __ ] would I want to come back to Cleveland after they did that to me That’s where I naturally line up And that’s why I thought we weren’t going to be able to bring him back We’ll see what happens We’ll see if he ever talks about it but I can’t help but think that that played a role You let me know what you think in the comment section down below Y’all have a great day Have even better night

What championship level coach is gonna allow a role player to shoot his way out of a slump in the playoffs. Not in the nba bruh. You can lose your position on the team because of how you perform in the playoffs especially for ROLE PLAYERS.
Damn wanted Ty on a better team
Ty Jerome mid season emergence was smoking mirrors that made them trade away Caris Levert whom was a better playmaker and offensive spark plug that gave the Pacers fits before the trade deadline.
Listen I really like Tye and he did a phenomenal job for us in the regular season but let's be honest him not being able to bring the ball past half court and get an 8-second violation and also not fighting for that inbound pass from Max as well as getting eaten alive on defense is the reason he is not back
Ty was great for the Cavs in the regular season that is all it is. Will he do better in playoffs for another team? maybe, but it is not a risk cavs were willing to over pay for. I do not blame the, cavs just need to finish top 4 in the east that is all.
This is a horrible take
Question, How many points did he score in the playoffs?
Dude, Westbrook hasn’t won shit
Ty’s contract would have cost $60-$90M in luxury.
Going to miss Ty but I think he made a mistake leaving especially for less money. He could have gotten an extra year with the Cavs. Memphis also has issues that he'll be ready to come back
If what you are saying is true, then what we have here is Ty Jerome cutting off his nose to spite his face. Ty signed for less than what Sam Merrill got. I didn't see that coming. Everyone says that the NBA is a business, it's a money grab and it sure looks like Ty Jerome failed the money grab test in free agency just like he failed the test in the playoffs against the Pacers. Ty Jerome is not an elite athlete (understatement of the year). Ty Jerome has a T-Rex wingspan. He's 6-5 and his wingspan is only 6-4. He's slow and against better athletes who were playing aggressively with an opposing coach who game planned specifically for him and his "gimmicks", he could barely dribble the ball across the half court line before the 8 second count. Ty was completely thrown off his gimmicky style of play by better athletes and an opposing coach who knows what's what. That was reality before our eyes and it's not likely to ever change. For the whole world to see, Ty Jerome was branded a playoff liability. He ain't getting faster and his arms aren't going to grow any longer. Why were almost all of his shots coming up short against the Pacers? He couldn't adjust to the playoff intensity because Ty can't elevate to get his shot off and his arms are too short. How many times did his shot bounce off the front of the rim. Go back and watch it. So, he leaves in free agency but interestingly he ends up being signed by a team that probably ain't making the playoffs in the West next year. There were several playoff caliber teams spending a lot of money yesterday but none of those playoff caliber teams bothered to pay Ty Jerome. Neither did the Cavs. Ty Jerome isn't going to sneak up on anybody next season like he did last year. Paying a lot of money to a player who is inferior to league average athletically would not have been a winning move for the Cavs franchise. Congratulations to Ty Jerome that he managed to fool someone (Memphis). Fake it till you make it. Bravo! He got himself a decent paycheck on a team where there won't be much if any playoff pressure for the coming season. Ty's basketball skill is high. His natural born athletic skill is low. Unfixable. He is who he is. For this Cavs team, it isn't about the regular season anymore. It has to be about the playoffs. That is why Isaac Okoro is gone. That is why Ty Jerome is gone. The Cavs are finally trying to get their shit together for the playoffs.
Give the organization a little credit although Altman is still goofy as hell. The CAVS identified players that weren’t producing the way they liked and got rid of em: OKORO- #5 pick in the Haliburton draft who stands in the corner like RAY ALLEN yet proceeds to miss EVERY corner 3 pointer. EMONI BATES- 6’8,, 6’9 string bean who plays HERO BALL and never passes even to wide open teammates who constantly shoots LOGO threes. Ty Jerome-
Regular season hero who folds in the postseason 11:50 with chronic foot problems. Mr. “LIGHTS TOO BRIGHT” who’s ribs hurt, and small dinky giggling on the bench and in the game Max contract point guard, and DEAN WADE MR. GLASS son of WINDLER always hurt are ALL up on the CHOPPING BLOCK next👀🐸☕️
Personally I would have given the Sam Merrill money to Ty. I love Sam, but Jerome was the more dynamic player. His meager playoff showing was a small sample size.
Bro the eye test clearly stated Kenny's justification of his benching this past East Semis 2025 finals in which The Cavs lost to The Pacers 4-1! He was one of the huge component reasons why The Pacers were able to defeat The Cavs in easy fashion! Case in point and it's a fact that he was the worst player in the series against The Pacers! Here's a Stat that's fact -13 when he was on the court against The Pacers😂!
Who cares.. Ty sucked… he didn’t deserve to be on the court in the playoffs. Sam played much better when it mattered.
It was probably that Ty wanted more minutes so he would have a chance to get paid again in 2 years and the Cavs didn’t have those minutes to promise him
No player should be thinking that they are bigger than the organization. If Ty I ls butt hurt bc he didn’t play many minutes in the very last game of the year after sucking through the whole series he well he can go somewhere else w the that bad attitude. Ty has no history of being great thts his first actual full year in the nba (playing) and he did very good until we needed him the most. If anything Cavs / fans should be the ones mad at him.
TY JEROME COULD NOT GET THE BALL PAST HALF COURT
Ty sucked through out the entire playoffs not just one series I think we should’ve kept him lonzo and garland gets injured often
Dude ass like 4-32 lol he should’ve been hit the bench porter jr should’ve played
Most of the time I’m with you… but Ty shot the Cavs out of the second rd.. almost single handled. Kenny prolly told him to not shoot 20 shots a game and it didn’t land well. Ty shot sooooo much in one game that he missed as many shots as the entire team except Max and Don. The Cavs lost a close game.. Ty needed to play a role not the main character
It’s not a good comparison Russ vs Ty. Russ is a former MVP.. he’s averages a triple double.. and has played a pivotal role an every team he’s been on…. Ty has been a one yr wonder at this point. Who was ran off the court in the playoffs
He got pissed he got benched for 2 quarters or he got an ego from all the stroking-off we did all year and decided he could be starting somewhere else instead of a bench guy in Cavs
Not happy shows that the Cavs development program operates well. Great job Ty…. get that bag.
Kenny saw Ty in GS. I didn't know that so this tells me that he has seen more of him that any coach in the league. Maybe he just doesn't see him as being sustainable. Maybe Ty going rogue a lot on offense even on a heater is not something he wanted to continue to tolerate. Someone mentioned there was a moment where Ty was waving off Mitchell and trying to take over. Sometimes you trust that guy but this feels like Lin waving off Kobe where it's a slow your roll situation. Ty isn't a confirmed great player, he was an oft injured player who only really provides scoring. He is a Sexton, Clarkson, Nick Young type which in the grand scheme isn't valuable in today's NBA.
Watch Ty Jerome is going to go to Memphis and play his butt off. Just a feeling I have.
He went ghost during the playoffs
I agree with Q. Remember when they actually put Jerome in after being benched, he actually got them back into the game. They should have valued him more and paid him. But I can understand if from a financial perspective they couldn't make it work. Hopefully their new draft pick will have a similar vibe, but Jerome's confidence will be difficult to replace.
Nah Q this not it! TY had to go!
Your take is absolutely off base. Nice try!
I haven't played 2 k since 2k 23 I think. But I'm pretty sure there is a player morale meter where if you bench certain players enough they will express it and maybe even request a trade or might not resign
Got to be a professional & rise above your own ego, if what you say is in fact true. Sometimes good players get benched… No one WANTS to, but it's just a part of the game. As you've stated it happens at every level of competitive sports (middle school, High school, college, & pro) & with each level that player needs to not only develop his physical skills, but also a sense of accountability, leadership, humbleness, & over all maturity as well (if neglected these latter elements can, & often do have a direct effect on your game). He played well for us & I have no problem with him pursuing a better opportunity elsewhere. Hopefully whatever the REAL reason is, this doesn't come back on us negatively down the road.
I think this is a bad take… who knows what he is thinking… when we needed him the most in the playoffs he didn’t show up.
He’s not part of the team now. The team needs to move on without him.
Ty should have been benched earlier in the series, and I like Ty. Do you want to win the championship, or do you want to play?
If he left because of that, then bye. I hope that everything goes well in Memphis.
I think you're right that getting benched pissed him off. I also think benching him was 100% the right move. The guards panicked in the series against the Pacers and basically stopped creating for the bigs and generating open looks. Ty was one of the worst at this. It was "bring the ball up, dribble around a screen, call another screen, take a contested jumper" the whole series. No ball movement, no energy. Can't bench Donovan or Garland, but benching Ty was definitely a good option.
Ty Jerome got exposed simple as that don't blame the organization for a over hyped role player now you see why GSW didn't play him
Ty wasn't just missing shots. He has no handles. He couldn't dribble the ball past half court without getting a turnover.
Anybody think Dinwiddie is in the cards?
I don’t think this is an out of bounds question to ask – but no matter – hard to see any upside to see talent walk for free
Dude’s NBA career was almost over and Cavs gave him relevance and a role for the first time in his career. If this is the reason he left, most petty response I’ve ever seen from a player. Move it on then if that’s the case.
Idk Q Ty played a good amount of minutes leading up to game 5. I can’t be mad at the coach for trying to go with something else in an elimination game. Ty played 11 minutes in game 5 and sadly it wasn’t enough to keep him on the court
