George Springer homers TWICE and drives in SEVEN on CANADA DAY! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

And welcome to those of you south of the border watching here today on Canada Day. Big celebration, always a festive day. The Blue Jays home just about every single year on Canada Day. The one and only day they wear the Reds. As we go to the bottom of the fourth, two to nothing Yankees with George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Alejandro Kirk coming out. Springer walked in the first, the only base runner the Blue Jays have to this point. One and one. That’s the sweeper. So Freed’s got the bigger, slower curveball at like 7576. The sweeper a little harder, a little more horizontal movement, a little less vertical movement. Just got so many different weapons. One and two. A change up in the zone. And Springer was looking to do some damage on that swing. check the swing on the high fast ball. It’s two and two. That’s that indecisiveness right there with all of these different pitches. Very tough for hitters to sit on anything. Then you really got to battle with two strikes. No pattern. Nothing. No pattern. Rushes that fast ball in. George did a good job reacting to that pitch, especially the two strikes. But when you speed him up like that, I got to believe he is just bought himself something softer away. See where Fred is going to on the pitch comp. curveball and hit pretty well to deep left field and it is gone. Well, I think George was thinking the same thing you were thinking and he hits it out for his 12th home run of the season. George stayed on this breaking ball away so well. You have to get out to cover it, but then really stay through the baseball and keep that bat through the hitting zone. And did he ever do it? Yes, he got sped up on the previous pitch. But this one, he stayed on it long enough. And that’s the benefit of getting that bat in the zone early and keeping it through a long time. So, the Blue Jays are on the board with their first hit of the afternoon. [Applause] He ties Guerrero for the team lead in home runs with 12. Guerrero shoots the ball to right field right at Judge. One down. Just a great piece of hitting by Springer. He saw all the different pitches. He saw swinkers, sweepers, change ups, a couple of fast balls and then he comes with the slower curve ball and you can see George is out front. He’s fooled a bit, but the way he stays through that baseball, I didn’t think he hit it out of the ballpark, but with the roof open today and maybe just kept going a little bit for it. The big boys. George Springer is up and I don’t know how much it comes across on TV in this moment, but Joe, you can feel it. There is energy in this ballpark right now. What we felt last night was one thing, but Canada Day brings another emotion, especially when you’re playing independent race against the division leaders. [Applause] Swinging a miss. One and one. This, by the way, just the third time the Yankees have played here on Canada Day. The others were 1985 and 1987. So, you’ve got the Yankees here. They’re in first. The Blue Jays are playing well. They’ve closed to within two games of them. Whoa. Two balls in a strike on Springer. Guerrero is on deck. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] And a highf fly ball to left center field. It’s going and it is gone. [Applause] What a scene here at the Rogers Center. George Springer with a grand slam to blow it open. Second home run of the day for George Springer and he got a fast ball center cut. Luke Weaver couldn’t work his way around the zone anymore. You’re falling behind with the bases loaded. He had to enter the middle of the zone and George put it in the seats. [Applause] His ninth career grand slam. What a moment that was. What a time that was for the Blue Jays again. Fin in the bullpen, but to now bolt out to a five run lead. One more look. He knows he’s got to come with a fast ball. And one thing George has been consistent with this year, he’s trying to get the ball in the air. You get a heater right down the middle. Good luck to you. George puts it in the seats. What a swing. Remember, he hit a grand slam in Cleveland, so he’s got two grand slams in about a week.
And a base hit in the left field. Two more runs are going to come in. What a game for George Springer. He’s got seven RBI’s. Have a month, George. Well, you’ve got a pitcher on the ropes and a veteran pitcher out there that he is just trying to get out of this any way he can. And after the walk to Clement, you had to know he’s coming in the zone again. George in a great spot and he made him pay and he is enjoying a special day here today.

Toronto Blue Jays right fielder George Springer celebrated Canada Day by hitting two home runs against the New York Yankees.
