Angels vs. Braves Game Highlights (7/1/25) | MLB Highlights

The middle series of this home stand as the Atlanta Braves, welcome in the Los Angeles Angels. Just the third time that the Angels have visited Truist Park. We have had some on and off rain. The tarp right now is off, our fingers crossed up here in the booth because we have seen a lot of rain. Hopefully the rain will be gone here in just a little bit. And the only disappointment for this series for me is not seeing Ron Washington. I think most people know that he’s been shut down for the year for health reasons and we wish him our best but really disappointed not to be able to see him. Grant Holmes gets the start tonight. So about a 10 minute delay, but the tarp is off. Grant is out there. CJ. We’re just about ready to rock and roll. And now for the ball game, the first pitch popped up a mile high on the infield. Matt Olson nick Allen, both there and on the mound, it’s Nick Allen went right up the top of the mound and was standing right behind the rubber coming across the rubber when he made the catch And oh, by the way, at the exact moment of that first pitch, there was a lightning strike deep down the left field line. Well, I’m surprised that lightning didn’t strike, Nick Allen going face first into the mound. And now mike Trout, his first visit to Atlanta since June of 2014 when he played back at Turner Field and he got him looking with a gorgeous slider, great start for Grant Holmes. A 123 top of the first inning. He finishes off with a strikeout of mike Trout. Tyler Anderson got off to a very good start to the season lately. Really, since the middle of May , things have been sour for Anderson for the Braves. It’s, aha Olson and Ozuna here in the bottom of the first inning swinging strike three. It was a fastball again and a strike out for Tyler Anderson to start things off. Nothing but the hard stuff between his fastball and his cutter. Next batter for the Braves will be matt Olson. Matt brings with him a 30 game on base streak into the action night. Longest of his career, longest current streak in the big leagues. There’s a single for Matt Olson and the streak is extended. He’s reached in 31 straight games. That’s the longest by a brave since Freddie Freeman. Two years back in 2020 reached in 33 in a row. You know, he’s been going that way against these lefty pitchers , the ones we saw for Philadelphia and now here against anderson pair of strikeouts already for anderson and with two away in the runner at first base, the next batter will be the cleanup man and that is Austin Riley, their third baseman Rileys it to left center off the wall. Olson will Cruz into third. It’s a two out double for Austin Riley. That’s what you want to see hitting the stakes and this is a mistake fastball down the middle after the first pitch change up , they’re trying to go in. They don’t get it far enough. And Austin Riley could have used about two or three more degrees a long hand because he hammered that baseball at 100 and 11 and hits that very base of the wall right away. You have some stress here for Tyler Anderson against this Braves team, which he’s had struggles with in his career. Very limited amount of, but still got to build that confidence. Brings up the impressive rookie catcher Drake Baldwin, a swing and a miss strike three. Got Baldwin down to one knee on the changeup and Tyler anderson strikes out three working around a couple of hits in the first four strikeouts through two innings for Grant Holt striking out the side. Joe. Good morning. Good afternoon, Logan. Oh, good night. One down for christian Moore. The sky is weird. The light is weird. Dark clouds, light colored clouds, blue sky. I’m wondering if it’s kind of hard to see down on the field and Holmes sets him down with a slider great first trip through the order for Grant Holmes, five strikeouts and only one walk no hits and another slider here with some really good depth for Grant Holmes. You mentioned it how good he is first time through and once again Grant Holmes with a really nice run, he keeps him quiet that time. A curveball displayed the netto and he went swinging after it missed every stitch. Six strikeouts for Grant Holmes. The curveball misses and so fights back to earn a walk all of this with two outs, a single and now two free passes and they are loaded. You certainly don’t want to walk there, but you also don’t want to give in a Jorge. So you throw that fastball over the plate. We’ve seen it many times. You can smoke that pitch. And so even though it’s been a couple of walks, you got the bases loaded. You start fresh here. Now with Logan Grant Holmes has been better in these situations at the bases. Jews two down and Happy waits and that will do it. He struck him out and the Angels leave them loaded bottom of the fourth inning. A scoreless game Angels and Braves Riley, the runner at second remains there. That’s the second out. Alex Verdugo will be the next batter. He walked his first time up. They take strike three to end the inning. That’s a big shutdown inning to be able to put up a zero and mean, shut down with the Angels didn’t score but they had a chance. That’s a big one right there for Tyler Anderson. A couple of hits in this inning giving Trout a chance to get Halos. The lead Angels have put some men on here in the last two innings loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth and now runners on the corners with two outs in the fifth. Holmes has him 12. Allen scoops it up underhand to , to still no score. We’re halfway home. Drizzle seems to have subsided. First pitch to Michael Harris is lined in the right field and hard and on the run he can’t get it. So go all the way to the wall. Harris is at second, he’s going to go for third. The throw is cut off no play at third, stand up, leadoff triple for Michael Harris. It looked like for a moment. Soler might track that down but it got by him and it was smoked. That is Michael’s first extra base hit since June 13th and he needed it. Sure did. Chance for the Braves to get the lead here in the bottom of the fifth. Here’s ronald who’s fan twice, swing and a miss strike three. What a change up right there. Ronald Acuna has struck three times tonight against Tyler Anderson. Just a great sequence there by Tyler Anderson. Seven strikeouts matches his season high, which he said on May 6th against the Blue Jays. And now the conversation has to be, well, do you want to face Matt Olson or Marcel Ozuna? So now they’ve decided, you know what, let’s just walk him, which is interesting that the left handed pitcher would walk the left handed hitter to pitch to Ozuna. Ozuna with a fly ball to left Taylor Ward is there, got under it and Tyler anderson works around a leadoff trip, an incredible job by Tyler anderson to put up a zero there straight inning. The Angels have put a man on base with two outs to Holmes at 101 pitches. His season high is 105 runner at first two out who sped twice. He struck him out again. Well, Grant Holmes did his job six scoreless 10 Ks nick Allen with a two out single and now ronald Junior will be in the next batter is probably happy Tyler anderson is not out there three strikeout game already for a and that’s in their strike three. Call it black by the Rolling Stones. Four strikeouts for Acuna only the second time that’s happened in his career. And now Dylan Lee who’s been fabulous last 15 outings, no runs allowed a 113 average against him, two walks, 20 strikeouts. He’ll come on and work the eighth against the heart of their order. We are scoreless in the top of the eighth. There’s mike Trout the line drive base hit to left over toward the line. We’ll see if Trout pushes it for second base. Verdugo. He’s got a good arm. Here comes the throw. Trout is safe. He turned on the after burners on that one. He hasn’t really had to do that too often since coming back from the IL. But he did. He said he had to get into scoring position, picks up his third double of the season. So with one down, Trout doubles Ward walks and that’ll put him in 1st and 2nd base one down for joe Adell and joe Adell hammers one to the left field corner and is hooking. It is a, it bounces to the wall. It scores Trout Taylor Wards at third and the red hot joe Adell has broken the scoreless tie. That was an absolute rocket for Joe Adele ball was hit so hard and Taylor Ward couldn’t score reverse on that one changeup was down off speed, pitch 113 MPH off the bat one 13. And that’s going to be the end of the night for Dylan Lee frustrating ending to the night for him only retires one of the four that he faces and now will be De los Santos coming on out of the pen and Jorge Soler, the former Brave trying to give the Angels a little cushion. Now in the eighth inning, there’s a rocket out toward right center field that splits the outfielders and heads to the , it scores Ward, it scores a down and Jorge Soler welcomes himself back with a two run double. That’s another rocket that 1, 100 and eight. That’s not a slider. It’s a fastball at 96 Soler all over at 107 off the bat splits the gap in right center field and gives the Angels some breathing room. Angels three doubles here in the eighth inning. And Kim Pero advances over to third base on the throwing air by de los Santos. Now runner at third for Luis three Angels. Here’s a looper to left and a base hit for the Angels make it a four spot here in the eighth inning as Luiso drives in a run to hit game for you mentioned it the other day when he start, hit the bat, hit the ball very well. Get that bat, another base hit the other way. Jansen will try to slam the door here in the bottom of the Braves down to the final out. You can get sean Murphy on base and bring in the top of the order up with a Olson, see if he can catch landing in a bottle swing and a miss strike three. Say good night to the Braves. The Angels pitch a shut out here tonight and a four run. Eighth inning was all they needed to beat the Braves 40. What an impressive victory by the Halos. Congrats to jose Fermin picking up his first major league. W Joe Adle continues a crush in 12 game history that go ahead RB I double sean. Well, Redo both a couple of hits with mike Trout’s hustle double. Got it going in the eighth.
