Development Camp Update (7/1): Dickinson
How how did you feel? Obviously, you know, last time we here was preseason. It’s good to get back in the area and and get skating again.
Yeah, it was exciting. I was obviously uh looking forward to coming down here. Um felt good, you know, obviously day one. So, I think just, you know, knocking some rust off for me, you know, haven’t uh skated like that in a while. So, yeah, just uh you know, build day by day.
Quick turnaround for you after a long season in London. How’ you how would you describe your season as a whole and just what developed the most while you were back at Juniors? Yeah, I mean, you know, hard to complain about much of the season. You know, as a team obviously, you know, won it all. And I think personally, you know, I think a lot of things went right for me. Uh, and I think, you know, I think everything for me developed really well. I think, you know, big thing I was happy with with happy with was, uh, you know, how my defensive side, uh, you know, improved, uh, game by game, day by day. So, you know, something I was looking to improve all season and something I think that did at the end of the day.
You mentioned the defensive side of the game and what to develop. When you left training camp, what was the message to you about what to work on? Yeah, it was, you know, a lot of everything. You know, I think a big thing was the defensive side, just, you know, working on fine-tuning everything there and just, you know, at the end of the day, just, you know, maturing, getting bigger, getting stronger, all that kind of stuff. How does camp feel different this year for you, if at all?
Um, yeah, I think the only the only difference from uh from this year to last year is, you know, I’m a year older. Not much has changed, obviously, new faces and stuff like that, but, you know, a lot of similar concepts with, you know, what we’re learning and stuff like that. Yeah. How has it been being back, you know, around some of the boys after, you know, not playing in the same group as a lot of them for so long?
Yeah, it’s obviously different. Uh, you know, a lot of guys I’m used to playing against and, uh, you know, I guess looking forward to playing with him now.
So, what are some of the things you’re focusing on between now to the start of the season?
Um, yeah, just I mean getting back to work. I think, you know, obviously season for me just wrapped up recently. So, at this point, it’s just, you know, focused on getting back into, you know, the swing of things through the summer, working out, getting in, uh, you know, in the gym, on the ice, all that kind of stuff. Who’s your roommate? I know you’re close with with the new guy, Michael Mis. So, who who do they got you rooming with this time?
Uh, I’m with Sharp.
Okay. Zack Sharp. So, yeah. No, he’s good. We’ve uh I mean, two days, but you know, yeah, it’s been good.
What’ you think? Obviously, I know we saw the picture online of the the FaceTime when they drafted him. You know, there was a lot of rumors where they go Misa. What was your reaction when they when they finally said Michael Mason was the guy? Yeah, I was pretty happy. Obviously, you know, it’s nice to have a guy that, you know, come here and, you know, obviously you think of the player that he is, it’s really exciting. So, uh, yeah, I mean, I’ve said I’ve played against him for far too long, so it’ll be, you know, a change playing with him for once.
It’ll be fun to have, you know, a pass to you to Misa to Alton and finally get that combination instead of going against each other. Just two. You find it to complete the trifect.
Yeah, exactly. I think that would be nice. I’d rather, you know, him put the the puck in the net for us rather than against us.
Yeah. when you have a season like you did in juniors, how do you carry that momentum forward into this year?
Um, yeah, I think it’s just, you know, uh, taking what worked for me. Uh, obviously, you know, it’s it’s a completely different level, you know, here and, you know, what hopefully the next level is for me. Uh, you know, it’s obviously completely different. And so it’s just, you know, understanding, you know, there’s a a big jump to be had, but at the same time, you know, stick sticking with, you know, what’s got me to where I have and, you know, uh, you know, just learning everything I can, soaking everything
