Another Move Coming? Miami Dolphins Rumors AFTER Darren Waller Trade

The Miami Dolphins shocked the NFL world when they brought Darren Waller out of retirement and traded for him. He was on the Giants technical roster and they had his rights. But we are going to look at the latest surrounding the Miami Dolphins after the trade. We’d made a video like this on the morning of uh Tuesday before the Waller trade actually happened and then the Waller trade went down and now we’re redoing all of these rumors that are surrounding Miami after this trade. If you were not aware, this actually was a little bit of a wrong kind of number from Adam Shfter. The contract is right when they made this deal of a one-year $5 million deal. That’s what it could be worth up to. But the Dolphins were actually the team trading the conditional seventh round pick for the sixth round pick. So that is where the number stands for the trade details between Miami and New York. And it’s a fascinating trade. We’ll talk a little bit more about Waller here in a second and what everything else could be here in Miami. But when the Dolphins make a move, when news occurs, we have you covered. So subscribe to the channel and make sure you join us so you never miss a piece of Dolphins news. Whether it is a Jaylen Ramsey trade, maybe it’s a Dylan Waller trade, maybe it is a signing of a free agent corner, we’ll have you covered either way. But I do think another move could be coming for the Miami Dolphins because they will certainly need to add more to this roster. Whether it’s another tight end, whether it is a member of the secondary, there are going to be moves coming for Chris Greer. And I do want to quickly mention this when it comes to the Dalon Waller trade. This was a Frank Smith move. Frank Smith, the offensive coordinator for Miami, had a relationship with um Darren Waller when they were both back in Las Vegas. I believe that Smith coached Waller in like 2018, 2019 when Waller was having the cut, best two seasons of his career. And there was actually a clip that resurfaced when Darren Waller was retired, speaking with John Gruden about if he would ever come out of retirement. in Waller said, “Ah, I don’t really have any plans as of right now, but the only two coaches that could get me out of retirement are you,” speaking to John Gruden and then Frank Smith. So, this was clearly a move where Frank Smith said to Waller, “Hey, would you be interested?” Waller’s kept in shape. He signaled he wanted to return and he wanted to, by the way, only return to Miami. That was a tweet out there by Pelisero. So, it was clear that if Waller was going to play football again, it was only going to be with the Miami Dolphins. So then once John Smith ultimately got traded, well, Chris Greer said, “All right, let’s bring Waller in.” And you could really debate where Waller will ultimately be when it comes to on this Dolphins roster. I have him as tight end three, but I’ve kind of mentioned this in a video prior that there could be like a different category for Darren Waller’s position because when you think about the way that Dolphins run their tight ends, most of them are blocking guys and kind of just like really helping in the run game. Whereas the receiving threats when it was Mike Aki under Mike McDaniel, when it was John Smith are more or less like big slot wide receivers. And I think that would be Darren Waller’s role if they ultimately keep him and he makes the roster when we get down to 53 players in late a August. But I will also argue Miami should think about getting another tight end because Waller has had a lot of injury history. He’s had some concerns off the field as well. And there was a weird moment when he was with the Giants in like 2023 24 before he announced his retirement where he kind of like didn’t really answer anybody’s calls and kind of went awall for a little bit. Now you hope that Darren Waller is in the right mental state here for this upcoming season with Miami. And it’s a little bit of a big if because it’s like if he could stay healthy, if he keeps himself in check, like he could be really good for Miami. But it’s a lot of big ifs. So getting another tight end could give you more insurance. And I am going to continue to pound the table that the Dolphins should be looking at one of these three in a potential trade. Kyle Pittz, Mark Andrews, and Michael Mayer. Now, we know they have held interest in Michael Mayer in the past. Mark Andrews is certainly on the trade market, and it is being said by Jeremy Fer of ESPN that Kyle Pittz could be available via trade if the right offer comes along for Atlanta. So, be the GM. Be Chris Gur for me. Should the Dolphins ultimately add another tight end to the roster? Type Y for yes. Type N for no. Let me know if you think the Dolphins should go out and grab another tight end to add to this 53man group. I think they should if they have the cap space and they’re able to do that. If they do, I think they should look into Kyle Pittz over Michael Mayer and Mark Andrews. And I have a couple reasons why. But one, it’s because Kyle Pittz is that like prototypical tight end that I just mentioned that John Smith and Darren Waller are alike that they’re big, they’re really athletic, they’re good with the ball in their hands. They are not known as run blockers. And that is something that is interesting in the Dolphin system. You don’t have to be that good of a run blocker to be a productive tight end because they have people on the roster. Pheroh Brown, Julian Hill, Alec Ingold that are specifically like their role is to be that additional blocker in the run game. So when you have a Pitts out there, when you have a Waller out there, you have a John Smith out there, yeah, they will block at times, but that is not their main role. Their role is to be a mismatch over the middle of the field when they get lined up on linebackers and tight ends, especially on the money downs and third down. maybe be effective in the screen game. We saw Janu Smith be really, really good as a screen target for Tua, Tyler Huntley, and whoever was under center for the Miami Dolphins. Pitts would be able to excel in that role. I would say Darren Waller projects as someone that could be good as well. And the one thing about Waller real quick, I will say he could fill that John Smith role and him taking a year off could ultimately benefit him because maybe he’s a little bit more healthy. there’s not as much wear and tear on his body and he completely resets here at age 33 and could maybe give his best foot forward here for Miami. That’s kind of an optimistic viewpoint if you will on Darren Waller, but I do think they should go out and add another guy. Well, if you want a two a tongue of Aloa jersey, get your jerseys today. Chatsports.com/dolphins jersey. You can grab a Tua jersey. You can grab a jersey of a different player your choice. Whether it’s a rookie, whether it’s Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Wadd, it don’t matter. Grab one today. All right, as we round out this video, I do want to look at what else the Miami Dolphins could do before training camp gets underway in about two or three weeks because we know there are a lot of team needs here for the Miami Dolphins. And after the trade for Darren Waller, I am still going to label tight end as a need. But I would argue Miami would probably look to sign two corners before they would add another tight end. And I think the fourth need on this group is offensive line depth because there really isn’t someone that you trust behind um Austin Jackson or Patrick Paul. The interior offensive line depth is a little sketchy. It’s really just Liam Mikeenberg. But the next move is likely for a cornerback. This is no surprise here. Do I think they could go at another tight end? Yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked, but corner is the one that we’re going to keep our eye on here and we’ve been keeping our eye on that for a month because we knew was Jaylen Ramsay was going to be traded. It’s now official. He’s in Pittsburgh alongside Janu Smith. The Dolphins did get Mick Fitzpatrick back which is pretty nice because that could kind of keep a little of the need at corner at bay with you having such a good safety unit that can be in rotation and play everywhere with Ker Co’s flexibility as well. But we know the four cornerbacks in free agency that Miami has been linked to, they have been linked to Hilton, Rousul Douglas, Sante Samuel Jr. haven’t really been connected to Stfan Gilmore, but he’s one of the most productive corners out there still on the market. So, I could see Miami potentially splitting the block there. But we know Asante Samuel Jr. and Rousul Douglas are the two people that Miami has been linked to the most in free agency. But before we head out of here on this video, I want to mention a couple of trade targets that we’ve discussed a little bit. Greg Nuome and Jaylen Watson. Both of these players are entering the final year of their rookie contract. One in Cleveland for 13 mil, fifth year option. One is Jaylen Watson, a former seventh round pick in Kansas City. I think both of these players could be an option for Miami in the trademark. And I’ll look at these two in particular in a second. But I want you to know I think if the Dolphins add a corner to the group, the six names that we just shared on the video are among the top six players that could be the newest member of the Dolphins team. So, pick a corner to add to the roster that you’d like to see. Drop that name in the comments. I want to focus on the couple’s trade targets here and Jaylen Watson and Greg Newsome. Watson is a former seventh round pick. He’s entering the final year of his deal with Kansas City and it’s very likely he does not get extended by Brett Vch in their front office. And Greg Newsome has been rumored to be on the trademark as well. He was a former first round pick out of Northwestern. had a really good first four seasons in the N or first three seasons in the NFL, excuse me. Struggled a little bit last season, but he has put up some pretty good coverage numbers in his career. You see the comparison there. Newsome has played three times the snaps than Jaylen Watson and has given up only one less touchdown, has a better QB rating when targeted, and about the same completion percentage. So, both would be good outside options for Miami. And I’ll be honest, if you were to ask me the way I would like to see Chris Greer handle this cornerback room going forward, yeah, I understand why signing one of these free agents is going to be an easier band-aid on the situation and then you maybe more invest in the cornerback next off season when you have a little bit more cap space. I would like to see a mid-round pick be traded for Jaylen Watson or Greg Newsome, whether it’s a fifth, the fourth round pick, and then you could potentially extend one of these young corners as well. If you don’t go the trade route, which is the way I would handle things if I was GM, I would probably sign Asante Samuel Jr., the player they’ve been linked to the most is Rul Douglas, but I prefer Sam Samuel Jr. due to his youth and his more of a high upside despite there being a little bit of a lower floor because of his injury history. If I’m adding a corner at this point for A&C, I would like to swing a little bit bigger with Asante Samuel Jr. All right, that’ll do it for this episode of Dolphins Today. 1. Does Cam Smith need to be taken out back behind the shed and put out of his misery? How could he not learn anything from Howard and Ramsey being there?

  2. This is an utterly stupid move. Grier continues to be the #1 azz-clown among NFL GMs.

How does signing a 32 year old, retired TE help the team? The Dolphins are not a TE away from competing. The team needs to take their lumps, end up with a higher draft position, and build a REAL contender through young and talented players that are drafted and developed by Miami.

  3. Yeah they shouldn't have even did this move typical get rid of a tight end like Smith and replace him with someone who hasn't played same as getting rid of Ramsey and getting someone not even close to filling that spot basically we gave away two good players for nothing typical stupid moves from GM

  4. On โ€œBigRโ€โ€™s channel, he has a video where Waller said heโ€™d only un-retire for 2 people. Gruden & Frank Smith, who happens to be our offensive coordinator! Woot-Woot!

  5. The dolphins are taking a huge chance here. If you're going to have lackluster cornerbacks, that means you better have a rockstar pass rush. If our pass rush is as good as it should be with our roster, the cornerback position is less of a necessity.

  6. Kyle Pitts or Meyer.. Pitts & Waller would give us size and athleticism to add to our speed & run game?? Flat out Studly.. is there hope yet??

  7. Waller faked an injury so he and his girlfriend can go watch a Padres game and he told the Raiders just go ahead and fine me I'm going to a SD Padres game. He quit on his team. He went back to the locker room during a game then put on his street clothes so he would not have to play anymore. The Dr's even said there is nothing wrong with this guy. Dolphins are stupid and I mean Stupid for signing this guy. He will never be a Raiders now that Brady is in the building.

  8. It won't be Pitts, Andrews or Mayer. Pitts = Smith or Waller, can't block. Andrews is more expensive than Jonnu, would have just kept him. And raiders already said Mayer isn't available
