Charlotte Hornets Sign Spencer Dinwiddie

Here we are again. The Hornets have acquired another guard. What’s up? My name is Sam. I’m a Hornets fan. And let’s talk about Spencer Denwitty joining the Charlotte Hornets from Shams from a little bit ago. Free agent guard Spencer Denwitty has agreed to a one-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets. Denwitty averaged 14 and six as a starter for the Mavericks a season ago and provides a reliable scorer, passer, and leader for a Young Hornets backcourt. Come on, LaMelo’s the franchise, so you got to take the good with the bad, right? And having a real plan B is a real need. And Spencer Denwitty is that guy and way better, probably the best guy we’ve seen in the LaMelo ball run. uh operate as the backup point guard. It’s been dry. It’s been rough. Uh it’s been tough. It’s been horrible. Uh the backup point guard play the last few years. This is a legitimate upgrade over everything we’ve seen the last four to five years combined. This is a young team and adding veteran leadership, veteran presence on and off the court is key. Mason Plumbley fits that bill. Even though the signing itself is pretty underwhelming, this fits the bill with Denwitty here as an onthe-court contributor and a leader in the locker room in general. Uh it’s a it’s a massive massive accomplishment bringing uh Denwitty into the mix and more and more I feel like this team can get into the playin now. Um I think the Hornets have a lot of work to do still in the front court. Uh the the power forward spot needs some love. like Charlotte needs to bring some guys or at least one guy that is a reliable rebounder in the front court because Miles Bridges, Grant Williams coming off an injury and to John Salon in year two at if those are your power forward options, it’s it’s pretty rough. It gets pretty rough pretty quickly. So, I would like to see that addressed next. But backup point guard check. And another sign that Nick Smith might be in trouble uh as as another guard enters the mix right now. You’re talking Denwitty newly acquired, right? LaMelo, Stexton, Nick Smith Jr., Conetan, Trey Man, uh Canipple if you want to put him at the two, or Brandon Miller if you want to put him at the two, Josh Green at the two, McNeely maybe, Seion James. There’s a lot of guys, that’s 11 dudes that just named that could play guard. Um, I don’t even Did I mention KJ Simpson? You get the point. There’s a lot of dudes in the back court right now. Uh, so that’s another reason why I feel like the Hornets aren’t done yet. Um, and that’s why you should subscribe to the channel because I’ll make videos. I’m making videos as they happen, reacting to them as close to real time as possible. So, keep it locked for Hornets news reactions. But, this this feels like yeah, they’re they’re loading up to make another move. Um, nothing super massive, but it the front court has to be addressed next. Like I feel so comfortable with all the options they have in the back court. Now the front court has to get some love. So Denwy 32 years old last season’s mentioned his overall numbers, but generally speaking like his assist rate was really solid last season. His a uh his assist to usage rate was really like really really nice. Uh his turnover percentage was really nice. Um, and largely that’s what he’d be asked to do here in Charlotte, not necessarily put up a bunch of points because of kind of what we’ve been talking about on the channel with Ston and with U Trey Man coming back, you know, the the offensive-minded draft picks that were selected. Den Witty looks like he could be that main bench or playmaker off the bench and that is going to be sorely needed um as we get into as we get into the season cuz I like AJ Simpson. I don’t know if he’s equipped to be that main guy right now seems a lot uh and pretty early in his development to be in that mix assuming he returns cuz his spot on the roster maybe um maybe taken now like there’s a lot of guards um in the mix. how it’s all going to play out is gonna be interesting to see who they keep and who they don’t keep and who they flip and who they don’t flip. But didn’t we didn’t Whitty into the mix as of now, as of early July looks to be primed to be a key role player for the Hornets going forward, at least for the season. And I’m here for it. I like it a lot. I think it’s another really savvy signing for for Charlotte and by Jeff Peterson. Um truly taking their time, being methodical with it. Um I don’t know what didn’t what his market was like. the karma teams were knocking down his door, so to speak. But he’s ours, man. And I’m here for I like it. I like it a lot. And before we go here, I want to mention this cuz this came out earlier today. And I’m glad another reason why I’m glad about the Denwitty signing. Gives me a chance to talk about this as well. Um, more clarity on the Trey Man contract. The third year is a team option. So, if that injury is severe enough or the play isn’t there, again, more flexibility with a contract or very teamfriendly contract, that third option is is like low-key massive for for the Hornets and for the flexibility going forward. So, thirdyear option, sorry, the third year is a team option for Treyman with that new deal bringing him back to Charlotte. I’m going to wrap it up there. Thank you so much for watching this video and thank you so much for all the love on the previous videos this off seasonason. Um the love on the channel lately has been really awesome to see and I I want to say thank you for that and thank you again for watching this. So until next time, make sure you like, make sure you subscribe, but until next time, I’ve been Sam. You’ve been great. Peace.

  1. Melo and sexton will be the backcourt. You guys kept talking about a backup guard and that’s what they got. Sexton is a starter he was never coming off the bench , they went to get someone to fill that role because they know and understand that

  2. BUT WHY???? What is Jeff cooking up bro??? We have a ton of guards. There has GOTTA be a bigger plan in place here. Is Sexton a 2 guard then? Is he not the back up pg? What we do with Tre Mann then? TOO MUCH GUARDS NOT ENOUGH SPACE! Scrap NSJ Scrap KJ, and at this point, Seth might have to go too unfortunately. There is a much bigger play going on here. Idk which forward we going for, but it's gonna be big! Pin this comment IT'S GONNA BE BIG!!!

  3. Someone has to be trade bait for more front court depth. I would be fine with all of the strategic trades if they hadn't drafted "Kon Kennard" at 4. But that's what happened–we'll see how it all plays out.

  4. I’m trying to see the vision here, but atm I’m confused as to what their plans are with getting all these guards. The only thing I can think of is if they’re planning on trading LaMelo

  5. Great video Sam 🙌🏻, we’ve got some great guard depth as it stands. Do you think a big trade is on the horizon given all the guards currently on the roster ?

  6. Either two things.

    A. JP is gathering assets for a massive trade for Someone. Possibly a Center

    B. He is providing Vet depth at the guard position so that when lamelo goes down with another ankle injury or has “injury management” we have enough depth for our season not to go into flames.
