what about Chase Davis??
Eye candy.
I saw him hit a double off the wall a few weeks ago. Good plate discipline too.
Bring him up
Looks like he’s the only Card on their list
They also apparently hate every other prospect because we don’t have another player on the list
He is going to be a really solid major league baseball player. I hope people don’t let their expectations dictate their opinions when he does make the mlb. This probably isn’t some Bobby Witt Jr, franchise level star. I think he profiles more of a Brendan Donavan type with more athleticism. Which is going to be great to have.
I think Wetherholt is going to be a stud. Don’t expect him to be a 30 HR threat but he’ll more than make up for it with bat to ball skills, defense, and base running. Think Donovan but with 20+ HR power and really fast. I’m so excited for this kid. Get him to AAA soon so he can hopefully be ready for the majors next season.
This is completely my own uneducated anecdotal opinion, but I went to a Springfield game a couple weeks ago and Joshua Baez stole the show. He hit two absolute moonshots and I had the same feeling watching him that I did the first time I saw Oscar Tavares. JJ struck out looking twice that night but everyone has those days.
I hope he is good, but man, it feels like all of our best prospects lately have been a disappointment once they hit the majors (outside of Winn and probably a couple others i’m missing)
Well, as long as Mo is anywhere near the reins, JJ’s future in StL is uncertain. I’m sure he won’t be traded away for over aged middle relievers either.
I just don’t see how Wetherholt has a future in St. Louis. Honestly. It was probably a poor choice to draft him over some other functionally useful options if you don’t trade him at peak prospect value, which the Cardinals likely will not do.
Gorman played his way off 2nd, Donovan clearly is the best option most of the time. Maybe it would make sense to put Donovan back in left, put Nootbar in right and ship Walker to AAA until he figures it out or just let him fly and be free to be an all-star with some other team. Shame how that worked out, but I will never forget the people who claimed HE was the untouchable when the team was rumored to have him as the headliner in a package for Juan Soto. Everyone said “but he could be the next Soto!” and it’s the same thing as Homer Simpson’s Mystery Box. He could be anything! Even Juan Soto!
We he ain’t Juan Soto. Don’t fall in love with prospects. Bet on established guys knowing that most of the time 1 in 5 prospects is going to be successful at the major league level on a sustained basis and take that gamble. Easy to figure 2023 and 2024 might have been vastly different seasons with someone like Soto on the team but we’ll never know.
Anyway, the Cardinals have Winn at short. It would be bonkers to either move him or trade him. So what’s going to happen with Wetherholt? Arenado clearly isn’t going to get traded ever, which is his right, so he’s at 3rd until 2028 which given this year’s performance isn’t bad. Could be better, but we shouldn’t complain about this season right? Still a future HOF pick for sure, perhaps as he’s gotten older plays up to his surroundings in a way that is detrimental to the overall team, but that’s not a stat you can track. (maybe, it would be interesting to see how poorly he performs once the team’s getting blown out).
So I dunno, kinda sucks that he seems like he’s going to be a great major leaguer with no place on this team to play without clearing out some guys that aren’t exactly bad.

He was a fantastic hit in that draft.
