Dallas Cowboys Training Camp HOT TAKES & PREDICTIONS: ITS ALMOST HERE!
It is officially July, which means we have NFL football, Cowboys football in particular. Now, they’re not playing any preeason games, but we do have training camp starting this month. And in today’s video, I wanted to talk about some training camp hot takes and predictions that I have, players that will surprise us, position battles that will surprise us, guys that might let us down. I am so excited about this video. So, let’s not waste any more time and get into it. [Music] Now, I structured this video by starting out with mild takes and then progressively getting more delusional as we go on. There’s some in here where even I’m like, come on, what are the chances? But for prediction number one, this one might not even be a hot take to you, but just really a prediction. is George Pickkins is as good as advertised. With all of the hype that has happened with Pickkins in Dallas, it’s going to be a lot to live up to and I don’t think he’s going to have a problem doing that. Now, us Cowboys pages, we don’t have media access. We don’t get to see uh mini camp or OTAAS. We haven’t seen Pickkins in a Cowboys uniform. I don’t know if they’ve done seven on sevens or one-on- ones or 11 on 111. I just know what we’ve seen on Twitter and some like 5second Instagram videos of his feet running routes. For a lot of us, Oxnard’s going to be the first time that we actually see this offense with a legit weapon in Pickkins. Pickins across from CD Lamb. And I think it’s going to be great. I cannot wait. This passing attack is going to look so much better from what we saw last year in training camp. It It just is. I just think about how far we’ve come since the draft and we were talking about who was going to be the wide receiver too. Talking about undrafted free agents that would need to step up and Tan Holden just praying that someone would fill that spot because Dallas needed it so bad. And looking at it now, we can just sit back, relax, and watch the 40ard bombs that Pickins is catching down the sideline. And there’s going to be a lot of them. There’s going to be two to three, maybe even five pickins highlights in training camp that are going to circulate social media. People are going to be going crazy. One-handed catches, back shoulder fades, you know, mossing somebody in the corner of the end zone. It’s going to happen. I’m going to be excited. You’re probably going to be excited. And I think the entire Cowboys organization is going to look around at each other and be like, “Yeah, this guy was definitely worth a third round pick.” So, I’m expecting a awesome training camp from Pickkins. It’s not really a hot take or even a surprise breakout candidate. I just wanted to prepare you guys for the social media storm. That will be George Pickins. And I promise you, I will be making as many videos as I possibly can on it. So, if you’re not, please make sure you subscribe to the channel. We’re pushing for 45,000 subs before training camp kicks off. Now, we got a ways to go here, but you guys can make it happen if you just hit that subscribe button. Join the Double Move family. I would appreciate it a ton. Now, let’s move on to our second candidate, my second prediction, and that is Jake Ferguson is the best version of himself that we’ve seen at camp. And for some of you guys are going to be like, uh, this isn’t a hot take. You know, I kind of expect that from Ferguson. And then other people, which I have heard on YouTube, they kind of forgot about Ferguson a little bit. He took a step back last year. They’re not expecting a ton. Kind of feel like we peaked at what we’re going to see from Ferguson at tight end. So, my prediction is that Ferguson looks like an absolute killer in camp. So much so, he’s going to have the Cowboys media worrying about these linebackers in coverage because of how much he’s able to get open. He’s going to be even better than the 2023 Jake Ferguson that we saw, that one that had 700 plus yards and five touchdowns. He’s finally back healthy after last season’s knee injury. If you guys remember, that happened in week one against the Browns. And I thought he was done for the year when it happened because he just landed so awkward on it. He did end up coming back. He just wasn’t the same player. Obviously Dak got hurt a little bit later in the season and 2024 really for the offense as a whole, not just Jake Ferguson. Everyone took a major step back, but now uh year removed from that injury, got over the concussion stuff that he had later in the year. He’s back healthy with a legit number two wide receiver. You have Brian Shottenheimimer, someone that’s been kind of sitting in the shadows watching things that, you know, Dallas did well with Ferguson, what they didn’t do well. Like, I think it’s only getting better from here. And I know bringing Pickkins in kind of drops him down the targets rank because it was Lamb, Ferguson, and then whoever was wide receiver 2, now it’s Lamb, Pickins, and Ferguson. But that doesn’t mean he’s not going to be targeted a ton. If anything, he’s going to have even more opportunities down the seam because those safeties are kind of shading towards picking side or, you know, if you’re too high, they’re both kind of shading towards those those edges because they’re worried about the deep ball ability of Lamb and Pickins. And then guess what? You’re having a field day with with Jake Ferguson with a linebacker trying to carry him up the middle of the field. It’s going to be so much fun. And I don’t want to do season predictions yet. I want to kind of get through camp and then maybe a full video on that sometime between camp and the regular season. If you want a hot take video on the regular season, let me know down below in the comments. So, let’s go ahead and move on to our third hot take. Miles Sanders easily wins the RB1 job. Like, it’s not even close. He looks like the best back there by a mile. The coaches know it. We know it. And by the time preseason rolls around, Sanders isn’t even playing as much in the preseason because he’s the starting running back week one against Philly. And maybe the hot take would have been Jaden Blue winning the job outright, but I don’t see that happening. Not for a fifth round pick, but I’m kind of using pieces of information that we have heard. Sanders looks like the best back at OTAAS in mini camp. I think other people are still saying, you know, Javvante Williams is is the RB1 and it’s going to be a competition. These guys are going to be fighting it out. We’re going to see what happens in the preseason in training camp. That’s not No, my Sanders is going to look so much more explosive with what he can do out of the back field as a pass catcher. He He’s just fine as a as a pass blocker. He looks explosive. He looks ready to go. He will be the RB1 before we ever get out of camp. I think people are going to be surprised by how much Sanders just takes over the RB1 conversation. And it’s not even a thing. It’s Sanders and Blue RB1 and two and then we roll into the season. So that’s my third hot take and we’ve talked about three offensive players. So let’s quickly move on to the defense for a minute and talk about Kai Elum. My hot take prediction, he looks like an Aminus starter. And we’re no longer worried if or when Diggs is going to get back. And the more I say these, the more I talk about them on camera, I’m like, uh, there’s probably some people out there that genuinely believe that, that they don’t think it sounds crazy because Cowboys fans are very, very optimistic about people that the team trades for. Like, Dallas traded a fifth or a sixth for Elum. And the truth is, he wasn’t good in Buffalo. Like, go talk to the people that you know that are Buffalo fans, and they’re going to tell you he wasn’t good. Think about it like if Vikings fans were super excited that they got Naan Wright last year in a trade and they thought that Wright was going to come in and just be cornerback two behind whoever they have over there. We would have all been like delusional, right? It feels like that’s kind of the trend with Buffalo fans. They’re like, “You think this guy is going to be, you know, one of your best corners?” But my hot take prediction is yes. And that’s saying a lot considering who he’s gonna have to face off against every single day at camp. CD Lamb and George Pickkins. He’s really in a sink or swim situation. Like he’s either getting the starting job because of what he shows at camp. we’re kind of, you know, worried about why Lamb’s getting locked up by Elum or or Elum’s making so many plays on the ball or he’s going to get cut and Dallas just moves on because that’s such a tough assignment for any quarterback. Like Pickkins and Lamb make him look so bad that Elum just gets cut. But my hottake prediction is that’s not what’s going to happen. I’m saying Elum looks good. Not great, but he’s really close. Not an A+. That’s that’s great. but an A minus and he looks good enough that we’re just like, oh yeah, the corner spot is good with him and Bland on the outside and we’re not even thinking or worried about when Trayvon Diggs is getting back. We have Elum and Bland. That one does sound a little crazy when I put it like that. So, let’s go back to the offensive side of the ball real quick and talk about Awesome Richards. And I wrote on here, Awesome Richards, the starting left tackle job. Your 2023 fifth round pick, 169th overall, versus the Cowboys 2024 first round pick. A guy in Tyler Gayton that is literally built to be the perfect NFL left tackle gets beat out by a fifth round pick. Richards has been in the building since 2023. He’s actually gotten some regular season work at both tackle and guard. And since getting to Dallas, he actually has gotten bigger, faster, stronger. And I don’t think it’s completely out of the realm of possibilities for Richards to come into training camp and actually outperform Gayton. Now, I don’t want Gayton to be so bad that Richards has to start because they’re like, the offense cannot function with Gayton out there. That’s not at all how I want it to happen. just for the the sake of Gayton’s confidence and the organization as a whole. Like that’s your first round pick from just a year ago and he can’t beat out your fifth round pick from 2023. And maybe in your in your opinion, Richards winning that spot is not the best case scenario for the offense or the organization cuz it might mean that you missed on Tyler Gayton. But I also can’t say that if Richards just goes out there and has really good days against these pass rushers. Like these tackles are going to get worked in camp. They’re going to be facing some stiff competition with Donovan Ezrau and Sam Williams when he gets back and Micah Parsons and Marshawn Nean. Like it’s going to be a competition. Which one of those guys is holding up? And I feel like I’ve heard a couple whispers here and there that it’s not completely out of the realm of possibilities that Richards really gets a shot to be a starter. So, with that, we get to our final prediction slashh hottake. And this one, this one is pretty out there. I’m not going to lie. This one might be a little too hot if you ask me, but we’re going to say it anyway. Please, I hope this doesn’t age terribly. Jay Toia wins the starting one tech job, and Dallas doesn’t even need to add another one. Initially, when I wrote these out, I was thinking about it. I started with Jay Toia wins the starting one tech spot. Like that’s how this whole thing started out. And then I thought about how much of a question mark Mazy Smith is. Like sure, he’s gotten better uh since his first year. He’s improved in in moments in certain areas, but I don’t think a lot of people would ag like think it’s so it’s such a hot take to say that Mazy doesn’t win the starting job. Like that’s not that crazy. Like I I don’t think I would be surprised if Toa is better than Mazi. So then I felt like I had to add Toya is so good that Dallas doesn’t even need to add another defensive tackle. They’re like this is our guy right here. This is who we’re rolling with. Eberflu shotty the front office. They’re like dude what did what do we have here? There’s been a complete overhaul of the defensive coaching staff. Matt Eberflu isn’t connected to Mazy. Neither is defensive line coach White Cotton. Like I guess Shotty kind of is, but I doubt he’s going to be too concerned with what the defensive line is doing and who’s getting snaps where. So with it just being strictly a best man wins, Toia is going to be the starter. Week one people, a seventh round pick, 217th overall. Now once again, I haven’t been at practices. I haven’t seen a whole lot. We haven’t seen any clips from OTAAS or mini camp with him, which it doesn’t really matter because they aren’t actually hitting with pads on or anything like that. But this one just feels like a complete shot in the dark. Even with the stuff that I saw on film, I really did like Watoya. He’s a big body. He’s a hard to move guy, a space eater. The overall strength and lower body power is already NFL made. He’s not someone that’s going to have to come into the league and really hit the weight room because he’s not physically strong enough to hold up against offensive guards or centers. But even with the things that I like, assuming that a seventh round pick is going to come in here and be an instant starter and beat out your former first round pick and take over the job and just magically start stopping the run. It’s it’s crazy, right? But I am going to stick to it. Toya is going to be the best one tech at camp. He’ll beat out Mazy Smith and Dallas will trust him enough to just not sign another defensive tackle. So, if this ages terribly, don’t come back to this video. Completely wipe that from your mind. Now, I was going to talk about Sam Williams at some point in this about what we should expect from him and what he said to Law Nation about what 2025 means for him, but I decided to do it over there on my Patreon. I can't wait I'm excited to see what these rookies and new additions going look like
DC4L
10-7 bounced first round same ol’ same ol’…
It’s been waaay too long since we’ve seen anything close to the Irvin/Harper duo.
That just seems wrong
As a cowboy fan I my wish is with this schedule that somebody will find me a defense that can stop somebody.
Zach! I’m excited NOW😳🤪😬🥳🤩🤯
I believe you about the 1Tech. Can’t spell his name. So I didn’t even try.⭐️
Wait wait wait so basically everything you said about the rookie DT was said about Mazi by media members and some content creators but the question I have is was Mazi a 1 tech in college or asked to do 1 tech as a rookie in Dallas. Well I think Mazi shocks the world and excels as a 1 – 5 tech. I think every DT on the team if put in the right position and played to each individuals strengths they all succeed!
Miles sanders rb #1? Wrong and just gross
Guyton I believe will be much better with the good OL coach or rather coaches there are 2 good one now. Guyton learns how to plant and bend a little hes going to be a different player
Guyton gives me Flozell Adams' vibes
I sure hope and pray that ur correct on the 40 yard pass and catch. Can Dak hit him is my question i hope he can prove me wrong but so far his first 10 years is a 2nd string QB that is getting paid Tom Brady money.
Until we replace dak we will continue to get what we have always got from him … Mediocrity, and a confused wide eyed look when hes failing in the clutch
Know richards will likely be the swing tackle (I haven't given up on Guyton think he has a good season this year) but hes said and its been reported multiple times he prefers to play guard for some reason
Pickens has a QB now for the first time in his career.Pickens is 24 years old in a contract year.Cant wait to see him dominate
Is Zack and both receivers stay healthy I guarantee I guarantee if they stay healthy they will be top 5 duo in a league guaranteed.
I can I can see Ferguson with 700 to 800 yd. 650 easy at work.
You are right it will not be close , starting RB, will be no doubt Javontay Williams will be the number one back hands down, he can catch has more power to run thru tacklers, and is very fast
