Rangers make SNEAKY good signing… – MULTIPLE Rangers Updates | NYR News

The New York Rangers have made multiple sneaky good signings as Chris Jury continues to cook this off season. We’re going to break down what these signings mean for the team and we also have a major update to go over as we have some clarity and some insight into what’s going to happen with the defense core heading into the season. We’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we do that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. This is the place to be for all your daily New York Rangers content. But let’s get right into it. We do have a couple signings to get to. We have an update on Zack Jones because yes, he has moved on, but we’ll get to that in a second, what that means for the team because there’s a lot going on right now. But let’s get into the first order of business. A couple really, really good depth signings by Chris Jury to follow up a very successful day of or day one of uh free agency. And he signed Taylor Radish, who spent all of last season with the Washington Capitals. He spent all of last season with quite literally the best team in the National Hockey League. And you can see here, Taylor Radish has signed for two years at $1.5 million, which is great value for what he brings to the team. We’ll get into that in a second. And the fact that you get the second year out of it, not too bad at all. He’s a bottom six two-way winger who pushes play well, but struggles to finish. Finishing is definitely not his strong suit. We’ll get into that in a second and you know his stats. But you can see here at the defensive end, not too bad at all. And again, he’s a bottom six forward. That’s exactly why they got him. He might even spend some time with the Wolfpack. I don’t think that’s the plan. I feel like this guy might actually play on the third line at times. And again, you have injuries throughout a season and you have obviously a lot of, you know, everyone doesn’t play every single game. There’s a lot of guys that do and you try to play all 82 games, but a lot of guys don’t. So, uh, this is a good depth signing and I think one that can help them, you know, propel them to the playoffs, adding another guy like this. And I did want to jump into stats from last season and as you can see, he played almost all 82 games. He played in 80 games for the Washington Capitals and he actually had 27 points. So, we’re talking about him like a depth signing. I mean, if you bring in a guy to the fourth line some nights, cuz we know that fourth line’s not going to play together every single night throughout the course of the season or even on the third line, that’s not bad for 30 points. The fact that he can play a pretty decent two-way game as well, and he was playing almost 13 minutes a night on the Washington Capitals. Now, something to keep in mind, he was a minus 7 on the best team in the league, but this is a pretty good signing. He’s also another big body and that’s something I wanted to bring up as well that the Rangers are getting bigger. They’re getting heavier and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They’re not, you know, doing that to sacrifice speed or anything like that. They’re still a quick team. So 6’3, he’s a pretty big player and he’s only 27 years old. So, uh, the contract will run through him being 29 years old, which I really, really like. And you can see this here, this article from Jim Cerny, and he says that both of them are likely headed to the Wolfpack. I’m not entirely sure about that. I do wonder if Taylor Radish does spend a lot of time in the NHL this season because again he played 80 games in the NHL last year. So I do wonder about him playing in the NHL this year. I do think he will. I actually do believe that. Now um obviously uh Radish a pretty decent depth signing. But they also signed Derek Pulot who was a firstround draft pick in 2012 of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s kind of bounced around teams. He’s been a depth defenseman. He is going to be a depth defenseman for this team as well. I would expect him to be with the Hartford Wolfpack. So, we’ll get into that in a second. But, just to wrap this up with a bow, you know, pretty tidy work here from Chris Jury once again to get Taylor Radish. And again, uh Derrick Pulot, his contract is and again the 1.5 million. Don’t hate that at all. But, uh to move on, yes, Derrick Pulot, 31 years old, he’s going to be a depth defenseman. He’s going to play for the Harvard for Wolfpack. Two-year contract as well at 775. Uh and I again, the he’ll make 400 grand in the minors. You can bury the contract as well. I don’t mind this at all. It’s a depth defenseman. If there’s injuries along the way, you can bring him up. He has NHL experience. I like this move. So, especially if you’re moving off of Carson Susi, which we’ll get into in a second. I do really like this move. Now, you can take a look here at the new and improved defense core of the New York Rangers. And man, I love this. And we’re going to be talking about this on stream later this evening at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. Brett and I were going to be live talking about all the new acquisitions. But this is kind of what the defense core is looking like right now. And boy oh boy does it look good. You got you got Adam Fox. That is the best first pairing the Rangers have had in a very long time. I’m very excited about that. Especially at the $7 million cap hit for Gavricov. He has a very active stick. He’s a great defensive defenseman. Really excited to see what he does. There’s been numerous reports by the way about Braden Schneider now on the second pairing on the left side. It sounds like they want to try him on the left side. See how that plays out. So you’re looking at your second pairing of Schneider and Borggan. And I feel like that could activate a new level for Braden Schneider as well offensively. So I’m very excited to see what that looks like as well. And I think he’s going to be playing the left side. And the reason I say that is because there was this report that, you know, they’re basically confirming that the blue shirts are expected to ship Braden Schneider to his offside on the left side to skate with Will Borggan on the second pair while Mororrow will be on the right side on the third pair with Euro Vaka 9. and Carson Susi and Matthew Robertson contend for the slot on the left side. So Vakan I don’t think is going to be a guy that is playing every night. Carson Susi I would be surprised from a salary cap standpoint if he makes it to the regular season as a New York Ranger but I wouldn’t be surprised because it’s Chris Jury on the other hand and I’ve seen crazier things. And Matthew Robertson again if he starts the season in the AHL not a bad thing. Continue to develop and he’s going to be an NHLer at some point. But I like this. This I mean this is way stronger. Let’s like we’re not kidding ourselves. This is much stronger. Scott Marorrow is a really really good player. Um brings a lot offensively. I’m very excited to see what he can do with the New York Rangers because again not the greatest defensively but a great offensive defenseman. Put up insane numbers uh in the AHL as well. And you can see here all the advanced analytics. He is an advanced analytic darling. So really like the fact that they got this player. I mean, the fact that, and I said it at the time in the video we made, the fact that they got Scott Marorrow back in return for Keandre Miller and not just like a one for one, the fact that you got a first and a second as well, that is an absolute steal, a heist, whatever you want to call it at this point in time. That is what that is. And from Larry Brooks as well, I have to echo this because, you know, it was tidy work. Yesterday was a great day for Chris Jury. And, you know, he locked up Will Borggan last season for 4.1 million. And when you compare it to Cody Cece, who I think is a worst defenseman for 4.5 in LA, I I think it was tidy work last season getting Will Borggan signed. And your defense core is looking that much better for it. Absolutely love it. I think it’s fantastic. Now, couple housekeeping items before we wrap up here. And again, I will echo that we will have a stream later today to wrap up everything that happened during free agency. And I’m sure there’s going to be some more moves because we’ll get to it in a second. Salary cap isn’t looking too great for the Rangers. They don’t have much room to do anything else at this point in time, but I don’t know if they have to do anything else. They’ve rebuilt the defense uh pretty well there. But anyway, Zack Jones has moved on. He was made a free agent. The Rangers did not sign him a qualifying offer. He became a UFA and now was signed by the Buffalo Sabres for one year at $900,000. Could the Rangers have done that? Could they have matched that? Maybe. But did he factor into the plans? I’m not so sure because when you look at this defense core, uh I don’t know if there was room for him anymore on the Rangers. So, I’m glad that he’s getting a shot somewhere else. I believe in that player. I think he’s a great player, but uh I really love, you know, he’s gone now. He’s a Buffalo Saber. I love the defense core that the Rangers have moving into the season. Maybe not Carson Susi there. I would imagine it’s Vakan or Robertson. And again, I do think that, you know, you can try and move off Carson Susi, although he is a big body and could have some use, but I do, you know, that cap hit is tough. If you free up $3 million, that could really help you over the course of the season. So, love that. And again, as you can see here, they’re not doing anything else unless they make a move. At this point, they have $777,000 left in cap space, so I don’t think they’re doing anything else. But let me know in the comments how you feel about some of these depth signings. I like Taylor Radish. I think it’s great. You know, obviously, you go and get Pulot. I think he’s a good depth signing as well because there’s injuries during the course of a year and you have some NHL experience waiting in the weeds as well. So, don’t mind that signing at all. I do kind of like it and we’ll see how it plays out for the New York Rangers and some of the other moves they made. I I love the Keandre Miller trade. I think it’s fantastic. Scott Marorrow is going to be a great player. And moving Braden Schneider to the left, it could work out really, really well. It could not work out. We don’t know. We have to see it. But I think the defense core the way it looks right now is miles better than what it was last season. Some pretty tidy work from Chris J. Let me know how you feel in the comments. 1. I know its orob not gonna happen, but love to see zban moved in a package for a 1 st line inpact player. And next year if hes gona and panarin is gone , wow who could we sign?

  2. A healthy Schneider should make a huge difference. More playing time and a decent pairing should give them two great pairings on D.
    By key 🔑

  3. Defense should be – Grav-Fox, Robertson-Schneider, Soucy-Borgen (vaak 7th & morrow to ahl). 3rd line is kind of a log jam – othmann, parssinen, berard, perreault, brodz, raddyish

  4. Not really a fan of small offensive Dmen playing on the 3rd pair, I prefer two big defensive man-mountains who can take it and dish it out. I don't really look for much offense from the 3rd pair, much better having a sound defensive duo.

  5. 2024-25 was a lost season. But let’s be real: the NYR weren’t likely to oust Florida in the playoffs, even if the core (Trouba, Kreider, Goodrow, Zibs) were happy campers. Team had to eventually move on from those guys, if they wanted to compete for the Cup before the end of this decade. Breaking up a core is never easy. People’s feelings get hurt. But we did we want Drury to keep that clique happy, or do we want decisive moves made? Fans who are serious about wanting the Cup need to give it a rest w/complaining about so-called leaked trade rumors or memos, some of which came from the media & not Drury.

  6. Sully and his staff may be looking, hoping for Jusso Parssinen to win the (3C) 3rd Line Center spot.

Which may not be a bad idea. Parssinen has good size, good speed, better hands than given credit for and works hard.

This will be interesting to see.

  7. Better than Bonino? Better than Pitlick? Better than Wheeler? I hope so.

Must play our young guys more!!

The Rangers are NOT a quick team.

  8. With Kreider gone. Who's the stud that parks in front of the net to get rebound and tip in scoring? Who are the big tough punishing defenseman that are going to keep the crease clear for Igor?
