Vegas Golden Knights lines with Mitch Marner, is this the opening night roster?
VGK secures Mitch Mner, but is Kelly Mcrimman still dealing? Is he satisfied? What else does VK need in the lineup? Next on this edition of Locked on Golden Knights. You’re locked on Golden Knights, your daily podcast on the Vegas Golden Knights, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. Hi again everyone from Las Vegas. Tony Kardasco and Chris Gollik. Thanks for making us your first listen every day. Find us wherever you get your podcast. I am a longtime sports cer, a marketing consultant, and the host of the new Believe in Vegas podcast. Chris is the owner of Silver State Cards and Sports, and the collectibles editor for the hockey news. Coming up on today’s show, we will of course talk about Marner, this situation, what the opening night roster might look like. Kaden Corsac gets paid, gets the bag, and concerns over VGK goalending. First, uh, does VK need to fill any more holes through free agency? I still say yes. Uh yesterday, in addition to the Cororac extension, they slid in another signing defenseman Jeremy Davies, the 11th defenseman, I believe. Yes, you can move these defenseman, four of them perhaps, to the AHL level, but that’s going to bump somebody out there in the AHL in Henderson. Okay, shrugged. Um, so right now, does VK need to add more pieces? Uh, do they need to add an offensive defenseman perhaps? I don’t understand why all these depth pieces have been signed here. Something’s up. Something’s brewing, I believe. Um, and I still think that the Golden Knights might be one to two moves away, Chris, uh, from becoming a true legitimate Cup contender. I still see some weaknesses in the lineup there, and we’ll get more into that, but what are your initial thoughts? The only concerns, we’re going to talk about the goalending specifically in the third, but goalending is a concern as far as Aiden Hill being able to replicate what he did last season. And are we going to miss Samson off? I can’t believe I’m saying that. If Akira Schmidt is the back of goalender. So, those are two of the immediate questions that pop up right now. The defense specifically, this team is going to miss a healthy, again, healthy Alex Petrangelo. We know a lot about his situation. I actually do have an update from Dr. John. I’m going to go I’ll go in that in a second here. He gave us some good information about what he’s going through. He talked to some people. Um, I’ll pull that up after this next uh kind of discussion point here. But the defense as a whole, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on right now. We’ll talk about Cororzak’s extension. His elevated role at the team next season. No pitcher Angelo McNab. Theodore is likely your number one pairing doesn’t bother me a whole lot. That’s very solid. Noah Hannifin, of course, he’s going to be out there 22 minutes a game. He’ll be fine. He got a lot better as the season went on. It seemed like Zack Whitecloud, Jeremy Lawson, Kaden Corzac. This is where the questions certainly do starts. And uh this is a team, you know, they still could make that move for Rasmus Anderson or for Bo Byum.
No, they still can. There’s a lot of these complimentary pieces that they could throw into a deal.
Yeah, but Anderson’s going to be like an like an 8 million AEV though. So maybe next season with with an increased salary cap.
Slow down. Slow your roll.
What do we got? What do we got?
Salary retention. I don’t know how McCrimman does this. Okay. You know, I know you’re a fanboy of Kelly Mcrimman,
100%.
One of the things that impresses me most is
half of Hurdle’s salaries picked up by San Jose uh Sison, half of his salary was picked up. There could be ways to maneuver around and finagle go ahead with the update on Petrangelo.
Sure. So, Dr. John Strickland gives us a lot of his uh time very graciously and I uh we talked on yesterday’s show and I knew he’d be paying attention and watching. though. Um, he gave a pretty detailed explanation here. He said it was a great podcast today. So, that that’s the best thing that he said in all this here. Um, but the picture I saw on Twitter, which lit literally looks like they’re showing rods going up and down his leg, the pictures we’re talking about are like the likely procedure that he’s going to go through. Of course, Dr. John wants to communicate. He’s speculating. Obviously, he’s not involved in this direct situation. Um, but in most cases, surgical hardware rods are placed into the femoral shaft. Ow. Which is the thigh bone. Okay. To stabilize the thigh bone. Surgical hardware will most likely be placed along the ball of the femur. The hip is the ball socket joint to stabilize and require more hardware. That’s paraphrasing what he said. And then if he has long-term damage as reported, there’s a strong possibility, he’ll have the surgical hardware placed along the pelvic bone where the hip attaches to, or at the very minimum, the damage to the pelvic bone will have to be addressed. And remember, it has to be done first on one side and then you got to do it all over again. with being a professional athlete, his body might be able to withstand doing it all at once. But
oh my goodness,
this is incredibly painful and again shows how unbelievable these hockey players are true warriors. So yeah, so he was going through a ton of pain.
Could be rehab on one side then rehab on the other side, but then it is a rare circumstance where you do both sides at once. So,
I wonder if the Will I wonder if the Will of the Rangers that big hit. I wonder if that took them both out of the socket there. Both of the hits that was
I think it’s just time went on. I think that was probably 1% of it happened on that hit and so on and so forth.
Um, improving the wingers just to
Good shirt by the way, Tony. I see that. Good shirt by the way.
SDP. Um, improving the wingers has been paramount since the season ended. Are you comfortable? Yes. Okay. with Marner, Doria, Barbashef, a Barbashef’s a question mark to me when I go through that lineup still agree.
Um, and then you know they’ve got Stone, Solid, Sod, Smith, the three S’s there. Um, and then you’ve got, are you comfortable with Hen and Kasar as the other wingers? Could VGK further improve the wingers and the depth there at the wing position? So, something we’ve mentioned on the show and a great discussion point that I’ve heard uh brought up on the NHL network, the most difficult line for any team to put together is the third line and they have consistency there.
A third line of William Carlson, Riley Smith, and Brandon Sod, that’s a pretty good third line that’s going to be well established and have its own identity with the ability to score and of course be a possible shutdown line with Carlson and Smith out there. Your fourth line, we like Sizens. Uh talked a lot about um what he’s going to bring. Great PKer, 56% in the circle. So, he’s going to be really good at controlling that faceoff in the defensive zone for the Golden Knights. And Brett Houden, I mean, Brett Houden could be on the top line by November, the way things go in Vegas sometimes. And of course, Kolasar has his role. Kolasar as a fourth liner is perfect. Kolasar anywhere else in this lineup, not good. Um, second line. So, it’s not a first liner. What’s wrong with you? The top two lines. This is where I disagree with what a lot of people are saying and what the AHL network’s putting out there and everything. I would love to see the Eel Stone Barbashev line get a run back. That line was absolutely deadly.
And then now your second line is the Mner line with Hurdle and Dora FV. See, I do not like Hurdle centering Mner for some reason. I’m sorry. I just don’t For some reason, it just doesn’t jive.
Someone’s got to go to the net there. MNER and her Mner and Doraf will create that space and Hurdle can play the bump. I mean, it’s not a power play, but there’s still a bumper role. There’s still net front presence. He’ll get opportunities with MNER dishing to Doraf Fev and then Hurdle has to clean up the loose change.
Did you know that BK had scouted Colton Sist 57 times? Just wanted to throw that out. I thought it was 78.
No, it was 57. I wrote it down. Um, that’s what he said on the napkin.
Yeah. No, no, that’s what McCrimman said at the presser. Seriously? I thought you were joking. Nope. 57 times. We’re going to test you later.
And then, uh, with Marner, you make everyone in the lineup get better. Everyone gets better. If I’m William Carlson, I would volunteer to put together all of those IKEA toys uh, for the Marner family because he’s going to get better. There’s going to be so much attention on Martner. I mean,
and that’s my point. Why do you need Michael and Martner on the same on the same?
Well, they will be eventually. And they could use him like Dry Settle. We’ve talked about that.
And McDavid. I think Yeah, you can split them up, but they can be effective together. They’re going to be on power play unit number one, which is something that I really do look forward to.
Yeah.
So, coming up coming up next, go 10 seconds. So, really quick. It’s crazy that we’re referencing two players like McDavid and Dry Cidle. I know there’s a drop off, but the fact that the Gold Knights have two players like that’s pretty amazing. There you go.
It is. Oh, does VGK do something now? Do they wait till the deadline? See how things shake out with this current roster. Another topic, napkin time. Coming up next, I was surprised at what VGK had paid Kaden Corzac for four-year extension. We’ll get into that as we return on this edition of Lockdown Golden Night. stay with. Night of Fire and uh the motorless the motor
waterless boat racing. Tony waterless boat racing. Waterless motorless boat racing that
no motors in the boats. I guess that’s good.
Okay. Motorboating. Uh
so much fun. It’s so much fun.
So much fun. Uh oh, I did want to Can I just make a quick point?
I’m on Eastern and Serene yesterday. One of the busiest intersections in the city. Right. A woman is there in her little mobility scooter trying to cross the street and she can’t. a young gentleman, I wish I got his name or I wish I could have helped or what have you. Uh, parks his car, there’s a 7-Eleven on the corner, gets out, walks the woman
across the street. So, that was a good gesture by a young guy yesterday. So, kudos to him. I have to point that out. It was just It’s nice to see that there’s still good people and in this city there’s a lot of good people. Uh, Kaden Corsac might be one of those.
Humanity restored by Tony. Yes. Cororzak would get out of his car and walk and elder.
Wait, hold on. Cororsac Corzac uh has helped me load my vehicle with hockey cards before. So Corzac’s a good dude.
Cory’s a good dude.
Here’s a segment. Which player who would be the first player to pull over and help someone cross their cross the street in town?
Corac um who signed a four-year extension? What? I don’t know where we’re going. Four-year extension on Wednesday in Tuesday’s press conference. Kelly Mcrimman just was talking about uh Cororac moving up, taking on more responsibilities for VK. He even went in and said so much as Alex Petrangelo gave Corzac a solid endorsement to maybe pick up the slack for him for pro. So that is pretty good news for him. Um and I had to look twice at the terms when it came out yesterday. Four times 3.25 25 million AAV. Were you surprised at the contract? Because that to me was an eye openener. They’re going to pay him, I think, for his future success. And he appeared in 40 games last season for the Golden Knights. And who takes over all of those pro minutes. Corors could definitely eat into those. And he’d be the first to help the elderly woman across the street.
Elderly woman behind the counter in the small town. Pearl Jam song. Great Pearl Jam song. Um anyway, so going to Cororzak here. I know offensive metrics aren’t what we’re looking for, but at least it’s it’s a measuring point here. And well, Cororac scored one goal in 23-24 with eight assists in 26 games. Nine points in 26 games. That’s actually very interesting. 10 points, 10 all assist in 40 games, 24-2. At the American League level, you got a 14-point season in 47 games, another 14-point season in 50, uh, nine points in 26. So, you don’t see a lot of offensive upside, but again, Nicholas Hey, you’re talking about the same output. Corac on a per game, points per game ratio is actually a little bit better. I was running some numbers yesterday. Maybe that’ll be a topic for tomorrow as far as points replaced and everything like that. Cororzak as far as what he’s gonna bring to the team. 6 foot3 203. So the size is definitely there. You have that stay-at-home mentality of like a Nick Hey or a Braden McNab. We’ll probably use more Nick Hey as the comparable. And then you have some mobility in the sense of like a Zack Whitecloud. Zack Whitecloud has definitely got a lot more confident with going into the uh attacking zone depending on the circumstances and everything. Cororac does have that in him. I think he has a good offensive mind. We’ve seen a few uh games where he does string together a lot of nice chances and it seemed like Cororac just needed a chance and this is something that Mcrimman talked about. Sometimes you just need that chance. Sometimes it’s not about, you know, forcing it. just the chance has to be given to you sometimes and then you take the ball and run with it. So, insert Corsac um that the AEV that’s obviously um a bit of a headscratcher, but if he’s playing 17 responsible minutes and nights, it’s money well spent.
Yeah, McCrimman believes that Corors can now become an everyday player, which I always have some concerns there. You
homegrown the the important homegrown round two developed, would you say? developed maybe.
Oh, they definitely developed him. We got him out of the WHL from the Kell Kalona Rockets. There we go.
I need that hat. I need that hat. I might get a Rockets hat. Yeah.
So, I mean, it’s gold get a lot of bad reps for not developing anybody. Well, here you go.
Four seasons in the AHL. Um, so there is a chance. That’s Are you saying we have a chance? Yeah, he has a chance. Uh, said he likes to play with McNab. So, let’s take a look at what you think the pairings might be right now. Currently, it’s probably Theo and McNab, Hannifan, White Cloud. Um, and they’re getting really high on u I know that Mcriminet spoke about uh he spoke a little bit about White Cloud too and his progress and then Lison and Cororac, but how does that how’s he move up the lineup or are they saying that he’s going to play in more than 40 games? Is that the uh the move there?
Um number one, when I was referencing what Mcrimin was saying about someone just kind of needs that chance to move up, Mcrim was speaking about WhiteCloud in that moment, but it’s also a transferable statement where sometimes just someone leaves and people elevate themselves. So that’s just the clarification there. Right now, again, it’s July the 3. We got a lot of things that can and will likely happen between now and training camp, let alone when the season starts and gets going. But it looks like Corsac and Lawson will be on that bottom pairing. But I don’t think White Cloud his role I don’t think Whitecloud’s role is cemented. I think if someone’s looking over their shoulder in this VGK lineup as far as the D goes, it’s going to be it’s going to wind up being Zack Whitecloud. Cororac will get a little bit of a leash because this is his first time getting full-time minutes. Lawren is a experienced uh blueliner who, you know, he’s got to perform, but he’s going to be not out of everyone. He’s just a big hitter.
Perfect. And he’ll be just fine. So, Corsac and Whitecloud will be competing internally for minutes with uh Ben Hutton, you know, reminding everyone that he’s still on the team every now and then. Poor Hutton.
I I feel so bad. Talk about needing an opportunity. I let the guy go so he can show that he’s an everyday.
Hutton’s cool. He’s ready. He’s getting paid. He’s chill. Life is good for Ben Hutton. And if anything, his career is being extended by the lack of games right now. Yeah, this is true. They need to pay him 3.25 million a year to AE. Um, what was what were the projections for Kaitton Kisak? Do you recall?
There are there were none. I was looking for that this morning. AFP did not offer any projections for him, which was kind of unfortunate.
And his last his last salary was what?
1.6.
1.6. So he more than doubles his 2x multiplier. Good for him. You got the He got the Uno Uno reverse or draw two. Draw two. There you go.
Whatever that reference means. I agree with you. Um, no, I I was just I was Tony. When’s the last time you played Uno?
I I had I play a lot of dose. A lot of dose. Um, no, I was just surprised. I just think again they’re speculating, right? It’s a speculative market for VGK. This is like what they did with Carlson,
right? It’s a reminder the salary cap is going to skyrocket in the next two or three seasons and people are getting paid right now.
Coming up next, my goodness. Um, you could tell by Kelly Mcrimman, he didn’t appear to be happy. Uh, well, his eyebrows never moved. Uh, when asked about Akira Schmid being the number one backup to Aiden Hill, we’ll talk about that concerns over VK goending next on this edition of Lockdown Golden Knights. Welcome back on Lockdown Golden Nights. Tony Kredasco and Chris Golic on this feel-good edition. Some guy walked got out of his car, young guy, young guy, and walked a woman across the street. That just I thought that that was pretty amazing. I was going in the other direction and just was watching this unfold at the red light. It’s cool. Uh tomorrow’s of course WTF day. Saturdays. Is there gonna be a Star Spangled edition of the Chris Times Chris Jr. show?
No, I’m I’m I’m locked down on work. I’ll be I’ll be cracking hockey cards and whatnot all week on Friday and Saturday for 24 hours besides watching some fireworks.
Please share videos from tonight’s
Oh, no. Don’t be videos of waterless boat racing. I can assure you this.
That is one of my favorites. Every year I’m going to get out there and check this out. And every year I don’t. Uh not
not actually Chris a ringing endorsement for Akira Schmid as the backup goalender for the Vegas Golden Knights.
When asked about Akira Akira hips don’t lie his hips don’t lie at least not yet. Akira Schmid um whether he would be the backup goalender. Kelly Mcrimman that reaction. So McCrimman answered uh that he’s comfortable with the roster, likes the makeup of the roster, starts going off in a different direction. Kelly Mcrimman, not ecstatic, let’s say, just based on the body language alone that Akira Schmid would be the number two goalender. That’s what I got out of his presser. So, for starters, let’s acknowledge Aiden Hill had a improved regular season as far as 50 regular se 50 appearances. Um, his metrics were fine. He was, I think, right around or maybe even a little bit higher than the league average as far as save percentage. So, all you can ask for of a goalender. Had the ability to steal some games for the Golden Knights. Um, I don’t know if he was nec he wasn’t up there with the Hella Bucks of the world or anything like that, but a good solid back stop. I think I’ll leave it like that. a good solid back stop, great step forward. Playoffs, his metrics, I think he was the second worst goalender when the dust settled as far as save percentage goes or maybe the third if Skinner dropped in those last couple of games, whatever. Um, point being is that Aiden Hill needed to be better in the playoffs. Glass half full approach. Aiden Hill has been good in the playoffs historically. At least he was amazing one time in the playoffs. So, you know, he has that in him. So, let’s just say that’s 50 games. Let’s say Hill’s 55 games. Let’s go 55 games. Let’s give him five more games this season. We still got to get 27 games of a backup goalender. Right now, it’s Schmid. I heard about a month ago that Schmid was likely going to be the man breaking camp as the backup goalender for the Vegas Golden Knights. And again, 887 last season with the go or 887 and the Yeah, 887 with the Golden Knights last season. Save percentage 9006. Or these are Aiden. These are Aiden Hill stats. Hold on a second. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Change this again.
6 944, right? Yeah. 944 886 with the Silver Knights. His best season was with the New Jersey Devils when he had that 89 or that 922 save percentage back in 2223. So, the Golden Knights are looking to find a goalender on the cheap. That was part of the trade for Paul Carter, I believe, which sent two pieces to this team that haven’t necessarily worked out and won in Alex Holtz. And I’ll say it again, Carl Lindbomb, 36 appearances with a terrible silver Knights team, the same terrible Silver Knights team that Schmid played behind and put up a 912 and a 265. So Linbomb I think will be putting pressure on A on Akira Schmid and even Aiden Hill but pressure on Akira Schmid and it’s probably going to break camp injuries pending Hill and Schmid but I would wager sometime between November and December Lindbomb’s name is being discussed or possibly he’s brought up and he’s going to get some chances. And is that a situation where you do weigh things out and get an experienced goalender there at the trade deadline depending on how this all shakes out. And that’s the thing, you know, if it Yes, that that that’s one of many possibilities. There’s going to be injuries. This is an aging roster. And okay, there could be some LTI money coming around the trade deadline. It’s Vegas. We have to reference that. It’s happen every season. It could be anybody. It could be anybody. It doesn’t happen, but it could happen to anybody. He’ll need a break there. Mark Stone will need a break by then.
Hey, I mean, listen, you know, hangail injuries take a while to recover and you know, no. So, I mean, listen, I’m just joking there, but we’ll see how things shake out. And there could be a goalenders available at the deadline. There could be a goalender that’s looking for a change of scenery next season that a team might be looking to trade. There’s a million things that could happen. And I’ll tell you right now, Mcrimman’s always kicking tires. I don’t think Mcrimman takes a day off. Even if he’s on the golf course, he’s on the phone working trying to
No, he’s working it still. I think he’s still working it. And I still think there one or two pieces goending might be part of that equation away from being like a legitimate uh cup contender.
Goending will put a question mark on, defense will put a question mark on.
Yes. Yes, I agree with you there. That’s absolutely correct. I I agree with you there. Uh no one has signed Ilia Samson off yet. Um he’s right now in the free agent market he’s like one or two like still the best available out there. So there’s not a lot. Uh there’s a a goalender that I liked. Alex Lion was out there for a minute. Um like at a million dollars and I thought maybe someone like that could have been uh good a serviceable uh goalender there. it it just my concern again if you have a Kira number two durability 30 plus games if that’s what his role is expected to be and so you you sign Mitch Mner on a Mner Monday and now you have questionable goalending so I I that’s the thing that’s the part to me that just doesn’t make all the sense in the world yes you wanted to improve your wingers uh yes you knew about Petrangelo and of course they’ve made the moves there necessary to shore up the defense. If you if you leave the the goalending questionable then that the whole this whole equation falls apart.
So let’s talk about defense here for a second and scoring and maybe a spot where the Golden Knights missed. Brent Burns. Brent Burns
has not
missed a regular season game.
Second longest run.
What’s that?
Second longest run to the
second longest run. He will break Phil Kessle’s Iron Man in the next season and a half if he keeps on going. Number one. Number two, hasn’t missed a game since the 2013 2014 season. Think about that for a second. Brent Burns last season had six goals and 23 assists. You want to talk about his lack of defense? Well, he was a plus seven. He signed for a million dollar AEV in Colorado.
I saw that.
Million dollars. You can’t tell me you can’t find a place for Brent Burns on
Oh, rather than signing all of these hodgepodge guys, I would have much rather invested the million in him. You imagine Brent Burns as a third pairing Dman in Vegas would have been pretty good. That would have been good.
You can’t go wrong with that deal. You can’t.
Right.
Oh, I’ve got a number here I want to throw out. I was going to
No.
14. Does it have to be a prime number?
No.
Make them 33 and a third reference by the way guys.
Okay. Mitch Mner plus 115 over or under to have 95 or more points.
Over.
Plus 115 right now.
Give me the over. Give me the over.
Yeah, give me the over. And
I would rather I would rather see if there’s a line out there for Eel and Martner combined over 200.
We said it. We said 2011 and a hook. I think we made our own.
Yeah, but I want I want I I wonder if there’s a place you can get that action.
I’m sure there should be, right? If any of our sportsbook friends are uh tuning in, post that number for us so we can go and a little bit down on that.
The thing about back to goalending, it’s just the major concern there. But, you know, do you think that Schmidt could be a project? You know, he’s 6’5, right? He’s big, stands tall in the net. Do you think that they can develop his game? That’s another question because we’re talking about I don’t want to be negative anymore. You know me. But on the positive side of things, can they develop him into that 30game goalender?
100%. And then he’s he’s played in the NHL level. He’s done fine. He had a good playoff run with that same 22 23 Devils team. So there’s a lot of positive metrics in his game. And was playing with a with a garbage silver Knights team, you know, just did that damage him last year? Maybe. because when he got to the NHL in his limited appearances, very limited appearances, he at least looked like he was checking some boxes. So, Schmid should be okay, but we don’t know. And this is where we just got to trust Mcrimman and that scouting staff and everything and hope it’s going to be okay.
Have fun at the races tonight. Please post the videos.
Waterless boat racing is the best.
We had a great fireworks show, too.
Tomorrow’s WTF day. Please join us. Leave your comments on our ex account for my man Dr. John Strickland.
Yeah,
Chris Golick. I gave him a shout out for the guy who walked the elderly woman across the street. I’m Tony Kurtasco in Vegas. Seeing ahead tomorrow right here on Lockdown Golden Nights. And please take care.
What do the Vegas Golden Knights lines look like with Mitch Marner? Is general manager Kelly McCrimmon content with the roster, or are more pieces coming? Kaeden Korczak received an extension on Wednesday. Are there concerns with Adin Hill and Akira Schmid heading into the new season?

VGK just got Cancer!!
You guys got a stud mitchy is a generational talent, hope vegas and marner the best, sucks we couldnt get it done in toronto but hopefully this works well for both sides.. from a london knight to golden knight this move seems good for marner he gets number 93 that hes always wanted i think hes going to do great in vegas, a reborn mitchy!
It's cool if you're a VGK fan to watchlisten to Toronto fans cry and be jealous because we got Marner…. Now they don't have a player to blame for losing…. But they're good cryers
If hertl centers Dorofeyev , Marner (best choice). Those 2 wingers better be ready to get back on D.. But Hertl will be strong at net. Strong line
Napkin idea. Special teams should be strong. Both 1 and 2, PP and PK
I guess it's not surprising some of the fanatic Leaf fans are dumping on Marner. You see, he's not Doug Gilmour, he avoids hits, he disappears in games 5 through 7, blah, blah, blah. I for one am elated Marner is now on Vegas. He gets 100 points a season, plays on both the pp and pk, and is Selke caliber. I think he's an excellent addition to the line up.
Kinda happy he’s gone ..whiner finger pointer who did nothing in 567 games
I hope Eichel signs a long extension
How does Korczak get more $ than McNabb?
I've got a question for the whiny Leaf fanatics now that your favorite whipping boy Marner is gone: are you closer to winning the cup? I'll answer that for you: NO!
