It’s nice to get hockey in July, isn’t it? It’s great. This has been a little bit new for me. I think last year I was out of town during dev camp, but it’s good to be here the last couple of days of uh watching the guys kind of work out. This is not a training camp kind of environment. This is a an environment where especially for the first time guys that are coming here straight out of being drafted or being invited for the first time. It’s a chance to get familiar with the Sharks organization and with the development staff. Uh, which is a pretty interesting development staff. Uh, when you get an opportunity to step on the ice for the first time in an NHL sweater and Joe Thornton’s out there and Patrick Marlo’s out there and Mike Greg’s out there and Tommy Wingles and Ryan Miller and and you know, legendary NHL players like that. It’s got to be quite a thrill for these players. Uh, and you know, listening to uh, the Sharks talk about what they’re trying to get out of this three-day event for these players here, it’s not to evaluate them necessarily. It’s just to get some level of comfort with them and for players to get to know each other. They’re now part of the same organization. They might have been playing against one another last year, depending on where they come from, just like uh, Melan CBrini and Will Smith last year played against each other in college. and and then they come to a a prospect development camp like this and get an opportunity to be teammates. So, it’s fun to see that. It’s going to be fun to see them play four on four here and three on three. This is not an evaluation camp. Nobody’s going to make the Sharks or the Barracuda here today or not make those teams here today. This is something different than that. Well, you mentioned the rivalry. Celebrating Smith, Dickinson, and Misa. Those were arch rivals in the Ontario Hockey League. In fact, those two respective players as part of their teams, the Bug Knights, the Sagenov Spirit. They went headto-head in the Memorial Cup last year. We’re going to see guys like Dickinson, who I know the hopes are very large. Does he make the Sharks? Does he stick around? Does he go back to the Ontario Hockey League? Michael Misa, same type of story. Does he make a major impact? just drafted last week, second overall. Nine new faces to the organization joining the poll from this past draft class. What do you make of a new crop of faces and more excitement for this organization?
Well, I think the good news is that my understanding is this this development camp group is smaller than last year. Uh there’s going to be eight forwards, five defensemen per team. That’s why we’re not seeing five on five. There’s just not enough bodies to to have a five on five scrimmage. and that’s fine. But it also tells me the Sharks are, you know, they’re shrinking the pool here now because of the amount of talent that has come into the organization in the last 2 or 3 years and they are able to do that. Uh, and in the case of Casper Halton, I think they just decided that it would be best for him with all the hockey he’s had this year not to be here for this camp. Not obviously not because uh he doesn’t fit the profile of this group. So, I I I think it’s it’s a it’s a great sign that the Sharks are getting to the point now where they have a level and a pool of talent that is blossoming. It’s growing. Uh the competition within is starting to develop uh to a point where some of these players are going to end up in the American Hockey League with the Barracuda. And who knows, uh, some of the players we’re watching here today certainly are going to get some NHL games, uh, if even if it’s just nine games and they go back to junior or they end up making a decision to go to college or they’re going to make the NHL or there’s going to be players here that we going into today’s scrimmage, we think we don’t even think of them possibly being an NHL player next year. That could shock us all. not so much today, but come rookie camp when they’re reinvited in uh in September to come to rookie camp and may come out of nowhere and find a way to get to the NHL. It’s happened before. It happens all around this league. It’s part of the fun of the process and the excitement of the process. You’re never quite sure who’s going to break through and make it. And uh there’s so many things to be excited about through this whole process. Starting with the draft, but now we see the the flesh. We see the players that we haven’t seen before in the prior camps. Uh you see me up close. Uh and these uh players like Ravensburg and the the first round draft pick, the goalender who we’ll see here today as well. And it it puts a whole new twist on everything now. They’re not just names anymore. They’re not just clips on the internet uh from Europe or the OHL or wherever they come from. Now we see them. Now they’re here. Now they’re a TechCu Arena. They’re wearing teal. Uh and it puts it all in a whole new light and it’s a whole new level of excitement, unbelievably on the 3rd of July. How great is that?
It’s incredible. We mentioned Ravensburg. I want to get your take. You’ve been with this organization since its inception. This is the first time they’ve ever drafted a goalie in the first round. Were you a bit surprised when you saw a goalie come across your screen?
I was. And and I’m trying to remember. I I think the highest we’ve picked a goalie in the past was the fourth round maybe. And and the name Terry Fzen uh sticks out for me as the highest drafted Sharks goending prospect before. And he never ended up uh making the NHL. Uh and it’s it’s it’s rare to see a player pick that high. But having said that, and you know, we’re just fresh out of the draft. What kind of draft did the Sharks have? Well, let’s just talk basics, they they got the best rated player at two positions. They got the best forward because Schaefer went first a defenseman to the Auditors. So, they got the highest rated forward by most people, Michael Misa, and they got the highest rated goalender by most people, Joshua Ravensburgger. So, if you come out of the first round and you have the best rated player at two positions, that’s already a good draft. Now, it depends who makes it to the NHL. And that could take a year or two, that could take four or five years. But conventional wisdom over the years tells you that if you hit one, if one of your draft picks every draft year makes it to the NHL, that’s a good draft. If you get a couple and and if it’s Misa, if it’s Ravensburgger, if it’s somebody else further down the line in this draft, they also make it to the NHL. Now, you hit the jackpot.
Without a doubt, as Mike alluded to many times at the end of the draft, they were not going to pick for need. They are not at that point of the organization’s rebuild to pick for need. They were going to pick the best player available. And they certainly feel like where they picked, they got some future players that can contribute in this organization to turn the corner. Speaking of Mike Gri, bundled in in about a week span, we’ve got the NHL draft. We’ve got development camp. And then baked into that is July 1st, which is the turn of the new calendar year in the hockey world. Sharks fans antsy, excited about free agency. Maybe the the ultimate signings weren’t as sexy as some fans hope for, but we kind of knew that when you look at the landscape of who was potentially available, but Mike Ger talked about getting a puck moving commencement on the power play. talked about maybe getting some wing support for guys like Cellrini to find guys who can find the back of the net. Again, I think he checked a lot of boxes. He got a goender. He got a a defenseman who can run his power play. They signed Dmitri Orof today to to a deal. They claimed Ley from the St. Louis Blues. So, they have been active despite maybe not a huge name landing in San Jose. Yeah, I think I think you look a year back, Tyler Chafoley was the bigname signing and that turned out to be a great signing and you know Tyler, he just seems destined to be that guy who’s going to score 30 goals every year for you. Bring so much leadership to the room and he was a great signing by Mike Greer and and the Sharks certainly made a splash with that signing this offseason goround so far. uh maybe not as big a splash, but I think it’s been that kind of a a free agent year overall around the league. Um Mitch Mner was probably the the big name out there and you know he ends up going to the Sharks rival, the Vegas Golden Knights. After that that you haven’t had that big big splash free agent kind of year. more more players tended to resign with the teams that they were previously with. But, uh, you know, the Sharks have added some nice pieces. Uh, you mentioned a puck moving defenseman and just defense in general. Uh, with with the the blastic buyout as well. Uh, you know, Lety and Orlof are both puck movers. Uh Orlof probably the most proficient coming from the Capitals and coming off uh you know admittedly not his best season last year but a tremendous amount of potential there. You’ve got two Stanley Cup winners. We forget Nick Lety won the cup with the Chicago Blackhawks back when the Blackhawks were were a Stanley Cup caliber team. uh both guys in their mid30s um and and bring a lot of experience and of course Arloff won his cup with Ovuchkin with the Capitals. So you add some other elements to the room aside from just what they’re going to do on the ice. you bring in championship pedigree uh you know and Yanuto was another guy that had that Stanley Cup as Tofoley did when when he was in the room and and that’s an invaluable intangible for a player to bring and and uh now that he’s gone you bring in two more cups as well. So uh along with the other moves that that Greer and his staff made around uh around the uh first of the month couple of days ago. I like the moves. As you said, they not not as big a splash as last year, but what it also does is it gives opportunities to players in the organization. If you’re a player on the Barracuda who is trying to break through the ceiling, they all are. That’s why they’re playing there. They’re trying to get to the NHL. You don’t have to hang your head saying, “I’m stuck in an organization where in my position, I haven’t got a chance to break through. That’s all locked up.” That’s not like that here for the most part. the opportunities are there. And as Todd Marshian, uh, the Sharks, uh, you know, director of scouting and, uh, adviser to Mike Greer said today, if you show that you can be an NHL player, we’ll find a way for you to be in the NHL. Your play will will dictate that. Um, and again, going back to what we were saying before, that won’t be decided today. That’ll be decided in training camp, in rookie camp, and that’s when the players will get that opportunity to show that they deserve an opportunity to break through that ceiling and be in the NHL. Well, as you noted, there is still a runway before the start of the year and have some more players and bodies could be joining the pool. But it is a great point. You want to reward the young players too for all their hard work and give them a legitimate opportunity to try to knock on the door and push for an NHL job. But it does feel like the Sharks at this point of the rebuild, maybe next year, maybe even the summer after when they really start going for one of those bigger names.
Well, that’s an interesting point. Are are the Sharks still in a rebuild or are they now in a build? And and there’s a there’s a difference there between rebuilding and building. And I would argue that the rebuilding phase, the mindset has pivoted, has changed, and and now they’re building and they have building blocks. Not to say that, you know, you’re not constantly trying to get better. The Florida Panthers are trying to get better and and they won the cup backto back years, but I I almost feel like as a as a Sharks broadcaster, I I I want to veer away from the vernacular of rebuild. I I feel like maybe that’s starting to be in the rear view mirror and now this organization is building. Bottom line, you finished in 32nd place two years in a row. So, uh, and that allowed you to pick first overall and second overall and get exceptionally talented players in Mlin Celibbrini and and we think in Michael Misa and we’re about to find out over the next few months. But, uh, now you can start building. You’ve got you’ve got material, you’ve got clay, you’ve got, uh, an an opportunity to mold and grow. You’ve got veterans slotted into certain o in in certain spots to help these players along. And uh I I’m excited about it. Uh I I at the end of this coming season, 2526, I don’t think the Sharks will be 32nd. Will they make the playoffs? That’s a huge ask because if if you’re if you’re predicting that, then tell me the eight teams they’re going to finish ahead of to make the playoffs. It can happen, but that’s probably uh on on the uh unlikely side of the equation. But the but part of building is getting better and passing teams in the standings. And I look at this coming season as a year to build rather than rebuild.
Great point. I I I believe you’re you’re spot on. And when you get a guy like M celebration kind of changes the tone, I think of the organization. That goes a long long way and realizing maybe the rebuild is over and now you can you can really start to to rise a little bit. And you are a dual citizen, so happy American Independence Day as well.
Thank you. This is a great week for me. I get to celebrate, clean up, change the logo, change the flag, celebrate again. It’s a good week. That’s why you did it. That’s the real genesis on why you you got the dual citizenship. It it should be a lot of fun. We’re going to see we mention it, Michael Misa. We’ll see Josh Joshua Ravensburg. We’ll see Sam Dickinson to just name a few. And let’s quickly go over our rosters here. Team white verse team teal. We’ll see who’s on the benches. Last year we had Jumbo. We had Patty and congratulations to Joe Thornton inducted into the hockey hall of fame and he celebrated another birthday as well. They had the cupcakes floating around in the locker room. Let’s go over team white. The goalenders Christian Kirch who was drafted last year by the Sharks in the fourth round and Josh Ravensburgen who we mentioned the Sharks selected 30th overall in this most recent draft. We’re going to go down the list numerically. Sam Dickinson on team white along with Quinton Musty, Matias Havlid, Cole McKini, Joey Maldown, Max Heis, Carson Wetch, Zack Sharp, Colton Roberts, Noah Beck, Brandon Sabota, Landon Marlo, we recognize that last name, and Nathan Lewis. That rounds out team white. And as you mentioned, Randy, this is a much smaller development camp. They really didn’t invite anybody from the Barracuda. It’s really guys who were drafted in the last couple of years. So that allows for everybody to play in this game and we’ll get to see guys like we we noted. We’ll start here with team white. Sam Dickinson, a name many Sharks fans have circled because this is the year he has a chance potentially to play for the Sharks. At the very least, we’ll probably see him in those nine games before they ultimately make a decision. Best defenseman in the OHL, CHL last year. Just a tremendous year at London. uh played in 55 games, 91 points for uh Sam Dickinson, 29 goals. And you know, I I hearken back and again, we just had a chance to to visit with Todd Marshant, who is the Sharks director of player development and senior advisor to Mike Greer. And you know, you you see these players, you see clips of them, you go and watch them live before you draft them, after you draft them, but when you see them up close in a in a development camp like this and and now we’ll see them in a in a scrimmage setting like this, things reveal themselves about the player that maybe subliminally you saw, but now you’re seeing again, or you see the improvement in the strides they’ve made, whether it’s their feet, their stick, their body position, and uh how they’ve grown in in actual size uh and and Marshon was talking about Dickinson today uh and noted some of those things seeing changes positive changes in the players. So, I’m really excited to see Sam. I’ll tell you another guy who I’m excited to to see and he’s on on team teal and you’ll get to him and I think you know who I mean. Hosi Wong who you mentioned uh you saw him just maybe a clip or two and then you were taking in practice yesterday. You really really can’t get a real idea of a player who’s 6’6 and you wonder a really raw talent came from China at the age of 12 to Canada. You wonder how does a guy like that get drafted that early as it just a a pure raw talent? Well, you see him skate, the way he moves at that size, 6 foot6. And we’ve heard the name Simon. That is his kind of North American name, if you will. But he did tell the media he’d like to go by his native name back home. And that’s Hoshi.
That’s how excuse me, Hi. We’ll get Hosi Wong is uh the name, not not Simon Wong, but Hi Wong. So, um I always respect a player who who wants to go. You see that sometimes with with Russian players, too. They want you want to have your name pronounced correctly when you get to a certain level. So let’s dive into team Thiel and he is on this team. The defense uh the goal goalies rather are Matt Davis and Jake Pon. Pon is a a triyout player. Davis signed to an AHL contract at a Denver twotime national champion. And then numerically Igor Chernop really exciting player the Sharks drafted last year. He’s going to be pushing for NHL opportunities this year. Michael Fiser defenseman. David Cle forward, Eric PCamp, a defenseman, Teddy Mutin, who was just drafted in this past draft. Richard Galant, and then Hali Wong, as as Randy mentioned, will certainly keep an eye on him. It’s hard not to at that size. He’s just 17 years of age. He’ll turn 18 later this month. Michael Miso, of course, who the Sharks took second overall. He is on team teal, wearing number 77. Reese Lobback, the San Jose native, junior Shark alum. Had a great season this year at Penn State. He’s on team teal, Nate MSY, Brendan Fitzgerald, and then a couple of tryyout players. Ivan Zanveruk as well as Lee Nemits 96 and 97. So, I do want to tip my cap to the the hockey operations. They only gave us a couple curveballs when it came to last names. We’ve seen a lot worse in the years past.
Yeah, that that it’s not too tough. And and I’ve got to mention uh as they’re resurfacing the ice now after the warm-up here, the San Jose State Marching Band is in the building live. This is not a recording. And it’s it’s good news and bad news. The good news is that they’re here. The bad news is the reason that they are here is they thought Drew Ramena was going to be with you on this broadcast and they wanted to give Drew the appropriate greeting uh with a full marching band. But uh Drew hopefully no problems getting across the border. Uh but he’s back home in Saskatchewan uh either mowing the lawn or on the back 40 harvesting the wheat, although it might be early for that. No name has been brought up more to me this week than than the great Drew Amend. Everybody’s asking where he’s at. Is he going to be calling the game with you? Have you spoken to him or should we do a welfare check?
Actually, I did on the way here and he did not pick up which which 100% meant he was working out. I know he was either that or shining his shoes and uh or pre-pressing his ties for the regular season. That’s a possibility as well. Uh but I checked and not more than 30 seconds ago, his name popped up on my screen calling me back. So, evidently at the time not listening to our live broadcast. Um, you know, perhaps if he’s not on himself, the broadcast is dead to him. Uh, but maybe now that he knows we’re on, he’s tuned in.
Well, when you do talk to him, tell him I say hello.
I will. I’ll give him your fondest regards.
It’s our 2025 prospect scrimmage as we wrap up development camp. Nick Nolenberger alongside Brandy Han. Last year we saw Maline Celbrini in this game. We saw Will Smith and you can’t make huge proclamations off of scrimmage where you’re playing four on four and three on three as we’ll play in the second half of this scrimmage. But you do see glimpses in tools with players in these type of settings. And that’s something I’m looking for. I want to see some of the abilities that Michael Misa possesses.
Oh yeah. I mean, this that’s what makes it fun. You’re you know, you’ve got the the four on four, three on three and and players love that. Uh I I think on both sides of the puck and it makes it obviously more challenging for the goalenders as well, but I I would think they want the work and they want to show what they can do. Uh I think it’s a great format. Uh and and it’s four on four, then we’re going to have an intermission and then we go to three on three as I understand it. Uh, so that’s that’s going to be a lot of fun and and you’ll you’ll see guys trying stuff that they probably would try in practice, maybe do in a game, but maybe not. And in five on five, obviously, uh, it’s less likely that the opportunity of time and space is going to be there to try and do some things. But we could see some real fun stuff for for us and for the fans here in the rink uh this morning. And if the game is tied, we will have a shootout to decide a winner for the Marchman Cup, which has become an annual uh trophy. Give it out for this game. Plus, I I love this wrinkle. If there’s penalties, there will not be penalties served. Instead, a penalty shot with the opposing team chasing down the shooter to my understanding. I believe they’d start either the blue line or the goal line. Either way, they’re chasing down the shooter to add a little bit of pressure um from the backside. So, that’s kind of a fun little element they have added as well. This is the Todd Marshan who’s the director of player development for the Sharks. He’s the mastermind behind this. He chooses the four on four format, the three on three, the four quarters. And you had a chance to kind of take in some of uh his conversation with the media before our broadcast before you jumped on here.
Yeah. And and he’s had a lot of experience at putting this together uh over a decade in this role with the Anaheim Ducks. So, he’s gone through this uh prospect development camp process many many times and knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s dialed in. He’s pumped. He’s excited. Uh you know, today is kind of the culmination of all the planning that’s got into it. A chance for the guys to really express themselves on the ice. I’m interested to see how physical it is. My guess is I I don’t know it will be like an all-star game. Lack of physicality certainly won’t be like a regular season game. There’s no ne you know it’s unnecessary. You don’t want to risk injury for something like that. Uh and I I asked him there are teams in the NHL in this development camp process that don’t go on the ice. The Chicago Blackhawks development camp is all in the gym. It’s in boardrooms. it’s team meals. They don’t skate because they don’t want I mean their their theory is we don’t want to get anybody hurt. Um that is not the prevailing theory around the NHL, but it is one that’s out there. And I asked Todd if he ever thought about that and he said no because we bring these guys all the way here and they want to have fun and they want to be on the ice. It’s it’s just part of their nature. It’s the culture of a hockey player. you get on the ice and um you know some of them have had their break already from their seasons, couple weeks off, whatever each individual player believes is best for his body and healing to take off. And they’ll come out of here equipped with a set of tools from the training staff, uh from the uh coaching staff. they’ll have a a a book given to them of, you know, what’s best for them in the eyes of the organization between now and rookie camp. Um and and Todd’s obviously part of that process as well. But he’s excited. He got me very excited for this game just uh listening to him chat with all of us um earlier this morning and uh you know, great job so far. It’s been a great two days here and and I’m it’s so exciting to see hockey fans here in the building in July uh fired up about this. Um I personally can’t remember being as fired up about a development camp. I mean last year obviously with with Mlin and and Will Smith here it was it was special and there there was an air of excitement throughout the whole organization but it’s back. I mean, I feel it again here in July and uh I I said to Drew on the air, I think it was in March, you know, and we went through a tough second half of the year and after the trade deadline and players were moved out and you know, things didn’t end very positively in the win loss column this past season. Uh I said in March, this is the first time I’ve ever ever said in March, I’m excited about next season. And I was then and I am now.
Well, it should be fun here today. We’re going to see some of these prospects in the flesh. You just never know. As the competitive juices start to flow, maybe the intensity starts to ratchet up a little bit as well. The great Brazil, he has been talking to these prospects all week long, baking tons of awesome, awesome content. And we’ll play one of his interviews with Sharks defenseman S Dickinson when we come back live on the Sharks Audio Network. This is the Sharks 2025 prospect scrimmage. We’re back in a moment.

We’re gearing up for the 2025 Sharks prospect scrimmage. Bro Brazil caught up with multiple prospects throughout the week, including Sharks top prospect in defenseman Sam Dickinson. Here’s that conversation between Sam and Brody.
Sam Dickinson, great to see you back here in San Jose. Not your first time, uh, but what is your aim? What’s your goal at this development camp?
I think just to to learn, have some fun. I think that’s what, you know, de development camp’s really all about. You know, meeting the new guys who are here, you know, reconnecting with some guys who I haven’t seen since last year. And, you know, when we’re on the ice, when we’re in the gym, I think, you know, it’s obviously to to learn everything you can, but at the same time, have some fun. You know, it is, uh, you know, the end of June, beginning of July, you know, nothing too serious. So, just, you know, have some fun and soak it soak it all in.
It’s got to be a little bit of an inspiration to you. Obviously you had a great last season with London, but to come here to be in San Jose where you hope to be and put on teal kind of feels like the future a little bit already, right?
Yeah, definitely. I think you know I’ve said a lot since the end of the season obviously you know the dreams to play you know for San Jose as soon as possible and obviously I think this is step one and in the right direction obviously for for myself. So again like I said just you know have some fun, soak everything in, you know, listen what the coaches and and uh you know the management and everybody has to say.
I think the fans love to hear that ambition for you. you want to be here as soon as possible. What do you think it’s going to take for you to showcase maybe to get to that level to be here in San Jose this year?
I think it’s just working on everything. Uh, you know, you know, I got to prove the maturity that, you know, uh, you know, my the game that I play is is, you know, ready for the NHL and, you know, the next level. So, it’s it’s a little bit of everything, honestly. I think, you know, to play in the NHL, you have to be, you know, the top of the top for, you know, everything in hockey, offensive, defensively. So, I think it’s just, you know, focusing on on what I can I can control and just going from there. You know what I think is really cool with this group here right now for development camp there are tandemss of players that know each other um thinking about Ravensburg and and Mlin and there there’s others too but I think what’s really cool about um your instant bond with Casper probably from last year after you got drafted by San Jose he was already in the San Jose pipeline did you guys bond a little bit better through the course of last year just kind of knowing that your futures were tied together?
Absolutely. Um, you know, obviously my first year with him, I was going through all of it and, you know, every time I had a meeting with it with the team, he’d always be like, “Oh, is it San Jose? Is it San Jose?” So,
you know, we we had some fun going through the year. Obviously, we were teammates and good friends. But,
you know, right after I got drafted, you know, it was kind of pretty quick that, you know, we became even even closer. You know, we were hanging out a lot more in London. Uh, obviously, you know, we were we were here all the time together. So, you know, a great guy to, you know, have here for me. And, uh, you know, I’m sure our our friendship will continue to grow over the next, uh, hopefully long time. I mean, it’s important during these couple days here to learn a few things, pick up what you can, but also to to make friends. I know that sounds simple, but that’s kind of a big deal here, right?
Yeah, definitely. Obviously, you know, a lot of guys from last year, uh, for me who I come back, you know, knowing a little bit and from there, it’s just, you know, you get to know them a little more and more and more and obviously with the the new guys coming in, it’s the same thing, you know, at this point, it’s just, you know, getting to meet them obviously, you know, know a couple of them from playing against them for, you know, whatever it may be. So, yeah, like you said, just, you know, meeting new guys and having some fun. I like you in these interviews. By the way, did you know you’re good at this these these media sessions?
I’ve been told I’m all right at them, so I guess I’ll take that. Yeah.
All right. Well, now we’re about to be tested. We’re going to get into the fun section of this interview. Uh all right. Favorite rink or sheet of ice you’ve ever played on?
Um man, that’s a good one. I I it’s it’s a cheap out answer, but I think I have to go with uh the the rink in London, the candle life place. you know, it’s become my my home for in hockey for three years now, and you know, I’ve had a lot of success there. So, I think I think that one’s got to be number one. Sentimental. I get it. Um, have you ever had a chirp so good that you used it twice? Uh, I I’m not really the the chirping kind, I don’t think.
I It started my dad didn’t like it. He didn’t like when I did it. He thought it was, you know, whatever. So, I’ I’d listen to him. So, I I’ve never really been a big chirping guy. You know, I kind of just get out there and, you know, I I’ll just go play hockey, I guess.
Really? Really? Sometimes you get sometimes you get a little a little into it, but you know, maybe some of the things I say I can’t repeat.
Got it.
Last one, and this is a good one. Is it ever okay to share a toothbrush with somebody else? Absolutely not. That’s No, that’s ah, I have my toothbrush in the hotel. I I hide it in my bag just now that you’ve said that, I’m hiding it in my bag just in case somebody wants to try that. And I don’t think that’s I’d ever reach for another guy’s toothbrush.
Like there’s no reason on earth like there there’s never a good reason for that. I’ll use my finger before I borrow somebody else’s toothbrush.
Yeah. I mean, it’s a toothbrush at the same time. It can’t be that hard to go out go out and find. It’s it’s there’s got to be a convenience store or something within f 10 minutes.

Planet Orange. Orange. You glad you called? We’re ready to roll here at Texas Arena for the 2025 Sharks prospect scrim. It’s Nick Nolanberger alongside Randy Han. Let’s start with team white. It looks like they will give the nod to goender Christian Kirch who the Sharks drafted last year in the fourth round. 116th overall split time between Green Bay and the USAHL this past year in Jainsville in the North American Hockey League. Team White will start. Of course, we’re four on four. They’ll start with Pavlid on the back end and up front they’ve got a trio of Quinton Busty, Joey Aldowi, and I think they’ve got Sam Dickinson playing up front at the four position at least to start here in four. Michael Misa will take the drop for team Teal. They will go with Goender Matt Davis to the nets to our right. Team TZ Cherishaw Fitzgerald as well as Misa and Pamp on the ice as the puck is down and we are underway on this Independence Day New Year’s Eve as Paul Campes one through the five hole in an early start. Paul Camp was kind of the hero of last year’s prospect scrimmage and he gets things started less than 30 seconds into this first quarter. Nice feed from Michael Misa. So it didn’t take long about 30 seconds in game action wearing teal for Michael Misa to show what he can do. And you know he had such a great season last year. Misa 62 goals but 72 assists. He’s a playmaker and he set up whole camp nicely there. Tied for fourth most points along with John Tiveres for draft eligible skaters in the CHL in the history of the league. an incredible year he put together as the captain of the spirit and they were actually working on that exact drill earlier this week where he was the distributor and pull punches one through. Here comes Musty in transition. Pulls up hold shoot save made has coming out to challenge Davis and the loose puck is gobbled up by Wong and the big 6’6 blue liner was skated along. Golot the intended target intercepted. Quick shot and team white answers back. blocker side goal off the stick of Nathan Lewis try out skater out of Ohio State. Nathan’s a big guy, 66 210 right now. He’s an 04born player, 21 years of age and didn’t play a whole lot last season. 27 games for the Ohio State University. couple of goals and ties it here with that shot.
So, a quick response, a couple of goals. It’s a running clock again. We’re playing essentially four quarters. First half will be 12 minutes in length, four on four. And coming out of the halftime break, we will shift to three on three and it’s 10 minutes in length for both quarters running clock. So, tied at 1-1. Puck brushed up the near side by Fiser. He’ll carry it up and over the line into the attack attacking zone. Rimmed up high to the point. Galant Galot just drafted by the Sharks last week. Pamp blast one wide nicknamed Al and that’s in honor of Al McKinnis because he’s got a howitzer. Could be ally of Freddy too. It’s a good point as Paul Camp will rush uh or work the puck rather back up the wall. He started at Bamiji State, transferred to Denver. Wanted to be a little bit more challenged. part of a very good pioneer program. Couple of national championships over the last few years as the puck is skipped towards a net tipped wide by Fitzgerald of team teal. And team white will look to break out of its own zone. Heist will skate it up the wing. Laid back towards his blue line. Reeled in by Colton Roberts. Returned back to Roberts. He’ll go rink wide. Team white in the neutral zone. It’s rolled down into the corner. Carson Wetch will get in on the for check. He finishes his check on the end wall. That was Brendan Fitzgerald who took the hit on the end boards. Emtts nearly forced a turnover. Now Havt will pick the puck up and wheel it back for Sam Dickson. Dickson will gain the line top of the right circle. Nifty move between the legs. Circles around the net. Dickinson surveying his pass into the feet of a defending member of team Teal. And now Havlet has it. Returns it back for Dickson. And Randy you see with four on four. So much extra real estate. Dickson trying to wrap on the far side. Now Hav back for Dickinson. Another move as he swings it between his legs. Back up top. Return to Dickinson. And he fanned on the one-time bid.
Well, we said it. Guys are going to try things. And Sam Dickinson on that shift there. A couple of nifty moves. And can he move? He’s got great feet. Buck rolled back into the team white third of the ice. Musty coming off the bench will reel it in. Quinton Musty is eligible to play in the American Hockey League this year. So, he’ll be with one of the two teams, either the Sharks or the Barracuda. We get our first offside. Got to mention the coaching staffs here, Nick, for team White, Joe Thornton, and Patrick Marlo. How exciting for those players down on that bench. You look over your shoulder and you you’re looking at one soon to be Hall of Famer Joe Thornton and Patrick Marlo might be next on that list. And then on the other bench for team teal, couple of NHLers as well, Tommy Wingles and Lucas Visa. Quick shot from the left side by Zack Sharp just off the frame. Sharp won a national championship last year at Western Michigan. M Downey down the right wing. What a breakout season he put together. 29 goals for Madalli. played his college hockey this past year at Yukon. Second most in the country in goal scoring. Here’s a chance in tight. He tried to pick the upper short side corner, but he just lofted it too high. Pulled back in by Noah Beck. Signed out of Arizona State at the end of last year. Intercepted. Nissa will guide it along for Chernaw. Churnov coming down the wing protecting the puck. Put it on net and Kurts the save and it’s forced back through neutral. Chernishov using his size there protecting the puck very well. got a quality scoring opportunity. It was a nice save.
Turn and Misa with that built-in chemistry teammates last year in Sagenov. Now pole camp to the net. And how often do you see that when you already have a drafted player, then you see another guy drafted maybe the next year because all the scouts and development guys have been watching the team all year long. Now Dickinson giving off left side for Cole McKini. Second round of the Sharks this year. Now for Roberts, his shot and a good stop is pinched along the side by Matt Davis and held on. Well, as we thought, minimal body contact here, both in open ice and along the boards, but that’s not what this is all about. This is almost a reward for the players after two days of drills and going through some of the more mundane things. Uh, a chance to go out here and have some fun. and they’ve been having fun already. Here comes team White back up the ice. A couple of quick goals, but since that point, we haven’t seen any offense. McKini in the corner. Played at the US national program this past year. They were really excited when he was still available in the second round. Played back into the Team Teal defensive zone. Brendan Fitzgerald will play it along. And it’s rushed through the neutral zone. Team Teal will gain the line. Shot in on Kers and he’ll reel it in and cover up. under five to go in this first quarter. I think it’s been a good case. We did have the two early goals. Been some good scoring chances since then, but as you said, everybody’s settled in a little bit. The goalenders as well. Face off draw one to the point. Kicked out by Kur. Juicy rebound and he’s able to secure it. He didn’t like the extra whack as he dishes it right back out. Kur splitting his time last year originally from Switzerland. Played in the NHL Junior League and then in the USAHL at Green Bay last season for Kristen Kersh. Although back home they would pronounce it kir because in Swiss or Swiss German the word kir translated is cherry but he’s going to go with kers here in North America and he’s committed to UMass a couple of years away from joining the minute men as he’ll be back in the USL this year. Galant will skate it through neutral given off right wing side as it’s returned back to Galant and directed just wide. Team White will try to ride the wave, but the pass off target and it was for Max Heist icing against team White.
I know that about Kier Kersh because Kier water is Cherry Lure. Now you’re just
might have sampled that back in the day. So when I saw his name, I said that kid’s from Switzerland. That’s all about the cherries. Obation for Joe Thornton being shown on the big screen here at Tech CU Arena. Congratulations again to Joe for the announcement that he’s going to the Hockey Hall of Fame in November. So excited for I can’t wait for the acceptance speech. Yeah, that’s going to be a good one. As as we all know, Joe when he wants to, he can certainly he can talk for the best of it. Back it away. One is our score. 230 left here in this first quarter. Both team scoring in the opening minute and change. Now Brandon Sabota Beu product had a really nice world junior championships for Team USA. Potted three goals. Picked back up by team teal dancing through the neutral zone. Zadurn try out player from Brown. It’s put back in on the goender Kers and he’ll cover up for the whistle. Well, you know, again talking to Todd Marshand earlier and and just kind of getting a feel the last two days. The on ice coaches and it’s it’s Thornton and it’s Marlo and it’s Wingles and Rei and others. This is not about teaching these players systems about the way that they would play in San Jose or with the Barracuda. It’s about working on their details and it’s not about the X’s and O’s that they’ll get to when real training camp happens, rookie camp happens in September. Now Misa over the line trying to dance his way through. Good stick there by Quinn Musty. Pulled back in by Misa. Couple of OHL uh products back to the point. Chernish. Chernaw protecting. Given back for Misa. Poke free for Churash. Laid down the wall. Return. Chernot. Quick shot. Good stop by Kersh. Pulled back in by Musty. We’re under a minute to go now in this first quarter. 1-1 is our score. Team white and team teal as Musty will skate it back to the neutral zone and lay it back into his own defensive third. He’ll peel away to make a change.
They’re not tracking shots on goal, but I get a feeling that Team White’s goalending has been a lot busier here than teams.
Back up the right wing side. Lobback had it. Lost it to Dickinson, but he gives it away on the point. Fisher pulls up. Good play, but then his stick lifted. Hits some support from Wong. He’ll skate to the right dot. He lost it to Dickinson. So Sam Dickinson will skate it back up the surface. Right wing side for Lewis. Vered back Havlid right up the gut. poking at it and trying to stuff it home on the near side for team white. I believe that was Muld Downey. Okay. In tight. I think it was McKenna. McKenna.
You’re right.
McKenna is going to steal the puck away in the neutral zone and that will expire our first quarter. So, a couple of quick goals, but after that, both goalies settling in. But I think you’re right, Randy. Team Teal seemed to have the edge in that first quarter. The next era of San Jose Sharks hockey is here with a new generation of talent hitting the ice. There’s never been a better time to lock in your seat for the future because it’s bright and it’s deal. The Shark Pack and 11 game quarter season plan gives you access to the Sharks rising stars, the biggest matchups and the electric energy at SAP Center. Futures team be a part of it with a shark pack. Initial thoughts, Mr. Han, after a quarter of play. It always seems a little weird saying seeing a quarter, but that’s what we’re doing.
No, it’s been fun. It’s been preheing now as both teams will bring that mind, but it’s been fun to watch. Great to see in the first goal. I’ll tell you what, it’s going to be an exciting year on the hockey calendar as we enter the Olympic year phase. uh the news yesterday that and we all knew that the NHL was going to the Olympics in Italy next February, but it was made official finally on paper. Uh I believe it was yesterday. All the all the uh eyes were dotted, tees crossed, and that’s going to make for a lot of fun for all of us trying to decide who’s going to be on the Olympic teams. I mean, does that celebr Canada? I mean, will Will Smith have a chance to be on team USA? They have a chance. Uh, they’ll have to fight through a lot of talent to get there, but it’s going to be fun speculating about that. Um, I I I can’t confirm it 100%, but I’m told we’re going to get the NHL schedule within the next 10 to 12 days. And I’ve also heard rumored that the Sharks like last year are going to open at home again this season to start the NHL schedule. So, look forward to that.
So, as Randy mentioned, we’re going to swap the goalenders here. So, Josh Ravensburg and will enter the game for team white, number one draft choice just last week of the Sharks and Jake Pon, who’s here on a try out from the Colona Rockets of the Western Hockey League, is in the nets for team. So, a couple of Western Leaguers in between the pipes and we’re back underway. Tied at 1-1. Collective bargaining agreement extended as well for the NHL. So, no concern. I don’t think there was much, but no concern of a stoppage and settled a year before the current one expired, which is really progressive for our league.
Here comes Sabot able to sneak it through and he got it through the five peon and team takes a two to one lead. And they may have may be having a chat here. Not sure what the the discussion was. It just funneled through now. Sabona is a guy taken by the Sharks back in 2023 in the third round. I think he projects as as a bottom six for that’s what he’s done at BU. But to make the US U20 team scored three goals in that tournament, he’s a player I think that Sharks fans should keep an eye on in terms of the future. There was some question as to whether or not that goal was going to count. The officiating crew here quickly huddled. No video review available. And as you heard the horn sound, they’ve awarded the goal.
Yes, we cannot go to Toronto for any sort of video review. So, we’ll just do it here on site. Old school. They just talk about it. It looked like a good goal. And it stands as team teal up and over the line. So team white has the two to one lead on the goal by Brandon Sabotto. Still playing four on four for this quarter. And then coming out of the halftime, we’ll go to three on three. Fisher tried to pull up and he was met by a brick wall. Carson Wet stood him up, put him right onto his side.
That’s the first real hit of consequence we’ve seen so far. saying now.
Good stick there by Mold Downey. Took it right off the blade of Michael Mis. Puck tied up on that far side along the yellow. 935 left here in the second quarter. Two to1 lead for team white. Misa reels it in for team Tio in his own zone. Flicks it along. He’s got Turner. Gets beyond Lions who reached the Frozen Four for the first time in program history and they may be getting Gavin McKenna. That’s the rumor. Either Penn State or Michigan State seems like the final two for McKenna who’s going to be the number one pick next year in the draft.
That’s a great story. Penn State and how they they basically started a program from scratch and as you just mentioned got to the Frozen Four and you just hope we can get more division one hockey in the western part of this country. Wouldn’t it be great if we had division one hockey first of all here somewhere in the state of California but in the Bay Area. I mean what would that do to grow the sport, grow the game? It would be phenomenal. One step at a time. Hey, at least we got the San Jose State marching band here today.
That’s right. Maybe they’re telling us something.
Could be. Recursive.
220 left here in this second quarter. Two to1 lead for team White. Reaching out the right pad is Beon and he keeps it out.
It’s Landon Marlo with a great scoring chance there. Almost tucked it home.
Son of Sharks legend Patrick. And Patrick is on the bench coaching his son here this now early afternoon.
I’m wondering is this the first time Patrick has ever coached his son in in any kind of a game? It might be.
It’s a great question. I know he did coach for a little bit with the with the Junior Sharks. So, I wonder if
he ever coached uh Landon. I think he did. I think he did. Landon an inviteee to this camp, but it was great to see him and Patrick out there the last two days.
Now, Galot rips one wide back to the neutral zone. Fitzgerald, Brendan Fitzgerald, he’s got a family tie as well to this development camp. his uncle Scott part of the Sharks brass up and over the line. Sabot and a quick backhander just wide. We’re under a minute to go in the second quarter. It’s a two to one lead. Less goals than maybe we anticipated. Here’s a turnover. Good stick by Zad Bernuke working in to the back hand. He scores. Wow. Zadber showing off the soft mitts as he works to the backhand and tucks it home. Ivan Xander from the EC AC at Brown University last year originally from Moscow in Russia. Big man 63200. Silky myths on that one. Nick, a LA Junior King lum. So two-2 score late goal for team teal as this even nearing the break. Nemits up and over the line his shot blocked. So, four on four through the first two quarters and despite that, we saw a couple of early goals and then things settle down. But saw a little bit of physicality, tempo, pretty good given the fact a lot of these guys haven’t played in weeks. That was a fun first little half.
Yeah, it was. And we saw the guys show off their offensive skills. Sam Dickinson kind of lining up as a forward and looked very comfortable in that role. And boy, you you project out and look look to the future and you look to the power of play and Sam Dickinson looks to me like a player who’s very very comfortable with the puck. Fun first half. Our third and fourth quarters will be three out of three. 10-minute running clock. We’re going to get a full intermission here. We’ll take a break live from TechCU Arena. Two two score between team teal and team white. The 2025 prospect scrimmage is live on the Sharks audio network. The doctor will see you now.

Those will be played three on three, 10 minute minutes in length with the running clock. If we can’t decide a winner, we will have a shootout to wrap this prospect scrimmage up. Ronnie Brazil talked to prospects throughout this week as part of development camp, including goender Josh Ravensburg, who the Sharks drafted 30th overall in this past draft. Played his junior hockey last year in Prince George in the Western Hockey League. Here was that conversation with Brody. So, as we record this, we’re only a couple days removed from you being drafted 30th overall by the Sharks. As you go back, what was the experience like? Have you started to realize what actually happened? And how many people reached out to you afterwards to congratulate you?
Yeah, I had had quite a few texts and messages from lots of people, you know, that I used to know and guys I’m still friends with now. So, it was really cool. And just go through it, hear my name called. Unreal feeling looking back kind of a blur. It’s so cool. Now that you’re here, does it feel more real to walk in this building to put on Sharks gear? Does it start to actually feel tangible? Yeah. Yeah, it starts to feel real seeing the rink, you know, meeting meeting new guys and putting the gear on with the Sharks logo. Really cool. And yeah, great great experience so far. Lots of fun.
So, one thing I didn’t realize, in fact, I I may have actually seen this segment, but I didn’t put two and two together. You actually recorded something for Barard Down with Michael Misa.
Was that?
Yeah.
Like several months ago. He had top prospects during I think November. End of Novemberish. Yeah.
So, I mean, you and Michael Newton, was that the first time you guys met shooting that segment or or how far back did you go?
That’s the first time I met. Yeah. Yeah. That was
What are the chances of that that you two were out there having fun doing a it was kind of a skills competition for him and they needed a goalie and you were out there too. But who knew you both would be drafted by the same organization? You’re both here at the same time.
I know. Yeah. Cool. Cool sequence of events. Yeah, it is kind of crazy. Um, from the player standpoint, what’s appealing about being drafted by the Sharks? I mean, are you kind of aware of just the organization, where it’s been, where it’s at, also where it’s going and who’s here right now?
Yeah. Yeah, it’s exciting. You know, there’s so many good young players that are part of the organization and uh for the goal of coaching here is really good. So, I’m excited, you know, kind of meet everybody and get on the ice with the coaches and kind of see what they see and kind of get to know everybody a little better. So, yeah, I’m just super excited to get going. If getting a Bakov is a beauty, despite what anybody might say, total beauty. All right, three fun questions for you here. I’m going to kind of go at random. I’ll pick three out. How about this one? Your best go-to cheat meal, right? You take care of yourself with nutrition, but if you’re going to have a cheat meal, what’s it going to be?
Uh, Big Mac for McDonald’s. That’s every once in a while. Once in a while, like if I’m sitting at home, I’m hungry, Door Dashing it.
You crave a Big Mac?
Yeah. Yeah. Every once in a while. I’m the same way except it’s Taco Bell for me. Late night on the way home from a game. Might stop and get Taco Bell. Uh all right. So, this one’s awkward because you’re you’re a goalie, but you’ve seen Cy’s maybe your your own teammates versus the other team. Best CI you’ve ever seen?
Uh ever seen?
Yeah.
I want to say Riley Height like OT winner against spoke. I think he the heartbreaker. He did something that was sick. I forget exactly what he did, but I remember it just being electric at the time. I think it was I think it was a heartbreaker.
Like a a long slide or did he kiss the glass? What do you do?
Slide was cool.
Uh all right, last one here. Do you have a favorite person in hockey media? I mean, you’re a player. You may not be paying attention to all the pundits, but do you have somebody who you might like in hockey media?
I like watching What’s that goalie’s name? Um Kevin Weekes.
No. No. What’s his What’s his name?
Devin Dupn. Spear Corposalo.
Oh, Corposal. Yeah,
Corposal. I think that’s the guy with the YouTube, right?
We’ll look cut. We cut it.
We’ll look him up. How do you pronounce that? Casemir Casulo. Butchering this. Casulo.
There he is. That that guy.
Yeah. Yeah. Goalie. Goalie YouTuber. So, it was cool to watch his vlogs. I watched him when he was Sweden in the SHL.
Yeah.
Right. Bad. I was butchering his if you see that. Sorry. But
that’s all right. That’s all right. All right. All right. Well, Josh, appreciate this. Welcome to San Jose and can’t wait to see you here sooner than later.
Yeah, thanks. Okay, I’m actually I’m going to look up
Look it up right now. We’ll cut this.
That was Bur Brazil with Goender Josh Ravensburgen. Had a chance to catch up with him earlier this week as part of development camp. Hard to surmise much from that Randy, but nonetheless great to see a good crowd in a in July for this game. And fun to get a little bit of hockey back when we’re in the middle of the off season.
Yeah, I’m I’m not an expert at gauging how many people are in attendance here, but definitely over a thousand people inside the building. I might be on the low end of that, but yeah, it’s fun. And uh it’s it’s just a I I think in the early years of the franchise, there was nothing like this and a development camp of this kind of nature and this organized. And then of course, for so many years, the Sharks were such a solid franchise. I mean, for the better part of two decades, a Stanley Cup contender. And when you’re a a Stanley Cup contender, you know, development camp, rookie camp, how many how many guys really are going to make it, you’ve got a solid team, a team that’s challenging to go all the way for for a good chunk of those years. There wasn’t as much focus on it. And obviously now for the last six years, not being a playoff team, this is the focus. It is the future. It is development. and it is building this team back up hopefully to not only be what it was before, but get across the finish line someday. So, uh it’s it’s it’s just fun to see people out wearing GL, wearing their sweaters, wearing their jerseys here in uh in the summer months. And now we’ll have a break. I mean, a lot of these players, most of these players who are here at this camp, they’re leaving today. Uh, and that’s partly why this game was slated for 11:30 a.m. Pacific time. Gives the chance for the guys to play and then still catch a flight back home and get back to enjoying summer, but also resuming their training and getting ready for rookie camp in September. Landon Barlo might be the only one and and Lback, Reese Law, they might be the only two guys sticking around because they’re local. Uh, I’m sure the rest will be headed uh off to not only various spots in North America, but around the world after this.
Still a couple of months away from camp and as we get closer, the excitement will continue to ratchet up. But in your mind, you watch this team, you’re around this group. What is a reasonable goal, if you will, for this year and this group and taking the next step? Well, obviously, you know, the obvious thing is be a better team, but and as we talked earlier, rebuild versus build. And I know it’s just semantics, but I think it’s an important differentiation point to make. The Sharks have been rebuilding for a couple of years now, stripped all the way down two years ago. And last year with Celerini and Smith and the emergence of others uh Colin Graph, a guy that comes to mind who who uh really made a contribution uh the acquisition of Asteroth. Now this year I think you’ve got to set a goal of not finishing 16th in the West. Now you got to finish in the top eight to make the playoffs. That’s the goal. That’s the real goal, making the playoffs. And I think you’ll talk to every player who makes the Sharks out of camp this fall and they’ll say, “Our goal is to make the playoffs.” Of course, uh you don’t want to say, “Our goal is to finish 12th.” But realistically, after being 16, you have to start chipping away at those teams. It’s one thing to say, “All right, we want to make the playoffs. Okay, who are the eight teams going to finish above?” Cuz the top eight make it and the bottom eight bottom eight don’t. So, you have to be better than eight other teams to get that last playoff spot. And I think that’s the goal is uh you’ve got to find out a way. And who are those teams you’re going to be better than? Is it going to be Chicago in the West? Uh you know, I don’t want to say who those other teams may be. Anaheim seems like a team on the way up. Are you going to be better than them? That’s going to be a tough ask. um and and and so on down the line, but you’re going to have to be better at some point than 18s in this conference to get better. And I think it’s the process of chipping away at that. For me, if the Sharks finished 13th, 12th, that would be huge. That means you took you youcliped half the field in one year that you need to eclipse to get to a playoff spot against eventually get that eighth spot. So I think that’s where the mindset should be and I’m not sure that realistically that was the mindset going into last year. It was unrealistic and especially when Celibbrini went down early and missed a month. Uh obviously that was a huge hold the Shark’s best player 18 years old and you lose him for a month and and things went south you know right away for a while then when Matt got hurt but you know a healthy group maybe some players that we’re seeing here today added to the mix some others added to the mix that come out of camp from the Barracuda uh along with the veterans who have added to this team in in the last couple of weeks and I think we should talking next year about how close the Sharks can get to that eighth spot. Can they get here get there next year? That’s a huge ask. I mean, let’s be realistic, but can they start chipping away at it?
What do you make of 84 games? That won’t be this year. That’s a couple of years away, but what do what do you make of that? And 84 is this is not the first time they played 84. They did that back in the in the early 90s for a couple years. neutral sight games, a couple each year where we played in places like Sacramento uh here for the Sharks.
I I like it because I know in my mind’s too long, seven, eight preeason games, that’s more than you need, more than the players need, way more than the coaches need. The coaches, by the time you get to pre-season, they already know who they see on that team. Uh, of course it’s the general manager ultimately who’s going to center the roster to the coaches, but you know, you have a pretty good idea coming out of uh rookie camp really if anybody’s going to, you know, force their way into your lineup. Uh, so I like it. Uh, and we will have to wait one more year for that. I do like it. I I we’ll start the regular season more likely in another year at the end of September. I don’t know that it will necessarily allow for the the Stanley Cup final to be over any earlier than it is now mid June. I’d love to see that, but it’s tough with TV commitments from the other leagues that overlap with your commitments uh and and the television equation uh has a lot to say with when our our playoffs occur and when they end. But, uh, I like I like adding two of the preseason games into games that matter. Plus, we don’t televise preeason. So, now those two games get wrapped up into games we do televise. And that’s more hockey for Chart.
That’s what I was just going to say. We get to see you two more times a year, which is obviously a good thing. The more honor we can get, the better. We’re back in a moment with the second half of this prospect scrimmage live on the Sharks Audio Network. The doctor will see him now. But do they really? Do they see you as a mother who’s a daughter and a caregiver? Fearless but sometimes fearful. A healthnut with a French fry habit? Planet Orange. Orange. Are you glad you called? Welcome back inside Texas Arena as we’re back underway for the second half. Quarter number three. We’re down to three on three for the remainder of this prospect scrimmage. Here comes Chernob down the left wing side. Gives off for Misa. Top of the circle surveying on the backand works back towards the blue stripe. Hands off now for Pulcan. Back skating to the near side. Will feather it into the corner now for Chernaw. Turn shot protecting working towards the point. Turn back towards the left. Dotney lost control. And I’ve got to imagine Randy, you do play some four on four, but these guys are probably more comfortable or in the situation more playing threeon-ree with the overtimes.
Absolutely.
There’s a chance for Downey on the back hand and a good stop by the catching mid to Davis. Now here comes team teal as pole camp tried to spin one for Misa and it was behind him and now a two-on-one back the other way. Dickinson holding pulls up far side hands off let pod pad save by Davis back to Dickinson. It’s fed poked away. Misa trying to clear and he’ll track down the puck and work it back to the neutral zone. Reese Wombach feathers it back into his third of the ice. 840 left here in this third quarter. Nick Nolenberger alongside Randy Han. Cle will scoop it up in his own zone. David Cle, 20-year-old from Castle Rock, Colorado. His dad played in the National Hockey League. Tensley, right? Yes, you’re exactly right. 15 years in the NHL. In fact, his brother Mason actually played a couple of games with the Cuda two years ago. Last year he was in the ECHL with the Worcester Railers. 807 left here in the second period. Work back for Cle. He’ll run the puck down to the top of the crease. They score. Good setup feed. It’s pushed past Goender Kersh. That’s a goal for Nate MSY. Great setup feed. MSY doesn’t miss from that close. Right on the tape. Kur came out to challenge and Miski beat him under the catching mitt. So back underway. It’s a 3-2 lead for team teal.
Well, Drew Rimedes listening. He’ll be happy. Nate MSY from Melford, Saskatchewan. Good Canadian prairie boy. The Paris of the prairies. Exactly. So, back underway. Zabota in his own zone. 88 in white. Sabot near side for Carson Wetch. Wetch coming down the right wing side. Shoots. Save made by Davis. Hit him square in the chest. Sharp tried to work through a couple of defending Teal skaters and lost control. Now Fischer will work back behind his net. You know, in Drew’s case, we got to we got to find a new favorite player for him because once Nico Sturm got traded, he was down in the dumps long in the base. Thrown on net. Kers makes the save. He was disappointed, I think, that that Stury didn’t get in that Stanley Cup final.
Still going to get a ring though. Yep. There’s a chance kicked out. It’ll be a second ring. In fact, one-1 with Colorado of course. back in on net and a good stop by Matt Davis. We’re not biased to players, but there are players, honor, that you kind of do gravitate towards.
Oh, absolutely. I mean, we travel with the players. We room with them in the same hotel. We’re around them so much throughout the hockey season. And you have your favorites, you know, more personalitywise, and then then you have your favorite players as well. But, uh, Nico is one of the one of the true good guys. But, you know, Nick, this a going into year 34 or something like that. You can count on one hand, and I I am honest about this. You count on one hand players who over the three plus decades I’ve been around here, you say, you know what, that wasn’t a good guy. Sure, there’s some dudes that come through that I don’t know, you just don’t take to. But 99% of the people that have come through the doors here in San Jose have just been great guys. I And I really mean that. 3-2 lead for team teal here as we’re in this third quarter. Nick Nolenberger alongside Randy Hunt. Now Nathan Lewis behind his net. Lewis serveing and it’s rushed up the near side by Joey Muldown. Muli slips past Wong. Got it far side. A quick one-time Havlin. A great stop coming over laterally by Matt Davis. Now Wong in transition top of the circle and down to make the block was Musty. Good effort there. And now a breakaway for Havlin. 25 and White to the back can Davis turns beside. Oh, the goal judge turned the light on there, but that was not a goal. That was a great save. Matt Davis, interesting prospect. Two-time national champion at Denver. Outstanding this past season despite the fact the Pioneers did not win an Attie this year. He’s not the biggest of guys. He’s about six foot. Signed by the Barracuda is right off the draw. Here’s an intercept. Rushed up the ice is Fitzgerald working in and a good stop by Kersh. It’s been the goalie show so far, Hunter.
It has. Here’s Musty. And nice defensive play there by Michael Misa. Puts down Quinton Musty.
Zebras are swallowing the whistles. We haven’t got a penalty yet. 512 left here in this third quarter. kind of hoping me was going to draw that penalty so he could see a penalty shot. Ah, these development camps, you got to let him play, Nick. 3-2 lead for Teen Teal here.
One of Drew Ramen’s pet peeves. What do you mean let him play? There’s no rules anymore. battle on the far side in there for team white. Max Heis not drafted last year but another chance this year and he was drafted by the Sharks out of the BCHL. He’s off to the WHL and then Michigan State. Big centerman 6’3. So team White controls 3-2 lead for team teal skated up the ice by McKenna. And Kenny headed to Michigan next year. And now here comes Lombach. He was behind everybody. He’ll rush up the ice on a breakaway working in. And another stop by Kur as he came out to challenge. Now PC camp protecting. Pamp twisted back for Lombac. Right flank to the near postulse. The animatic cle and he directed it just wide. Back to the point. Pamp his shot. Kersh comes out to the top of the crease and makes a solid save. Boy, is Pull Camp a shooter. He just loves to get rid of that puck. We saw him in the first half when we were four on four. Wire a couple of pucks at the net. Wrist shot there. Still got a lot on that one. 11 goals for Bold Camp last year drafted by the Sharks in 2023. native of Brainard, Minnesota. And as we mentioned, started at Biji State. That’s in Minnesota. Then went to Denver this year. Eric Pole Camp. Here’s a shot from the right side by MSY. He got a little bit air under it. And team White will break out of the zone. Golden Roberts gives off middle ice and it skips into the corner. That was intended for Landon Marlo. Body banging around in the far corner. Wet in there for team White. He’s outnumbered. Galot will pull it in and rush up the right wing side. Here comes Team Teal. They may have numbers. Galant pulls up top of the circle. Gives off quick shot in a stick save by Kersh on a bid by Teddy Mutrin. Galant has it back on his blade near side trying to work towards the back hand below the left circle and he lost it. And team White now controls. Colton Roberts bending off the pressure gives off for Musty. somehow got to his man Lewis on the back. Can he put it off the post? Kind of a no man’s land pass. It ends up converting for Lewis. He dances his way in and hits it off the post. Team Teal now has it as they try to add to their lead. Centered in front for Nemits. That was taken away. And Team White back in transition. Sharp working in shoots and a blocker stopped by Davis. Nemits back on a 97 and Teal. Try out player works to the far dot. Swings it up high to the point. There’s a shot. Good stick. Mul down. And up and out of play goes. Yeah. You talk about Eric Pampam from Brainer, Minnesota. Long time Sharks fans will recall that the Sharks used to hold training camp in Brainer, Minnesota. wasn’t the most popular spot to congregate in September. In fact, more than one Shark player back in the day used to call it Brain Dead, Minnesota cuz there was nothing to do. But I think that’s why they had camp there. They wanted to take any off ice distractions away. Was not a popular destination, believe me. Especially from some of the veteran guys. Misa near side will drop it on the point. skated towards the end line trying to work around the net on a power move. That was Michael Fiser. He lost the handle now. Turn a shot for Misa. Dropped down to a knee to try to one time that puck, but it looked like his stick just got lifted ever so slightly and it went through his blade. Team White over the line now near side. It’s played. Beck pulls up on the dot. Shoots and the save is made by Matt Davis. Jesus cherry picking a little bit outside of the zone and instead now at the end of his shift he’ll make a change.
I’ll be honest with you Nick I thought four on four and now three on three that this would be a a highcoring thing but the goalending’s been excellent. Another good save by Kersh is charging in on net was Fiser. You wonder if the legs are biting a little bit. These guys haven’t been playing for over a month, at least most of them.
Well, the legs and the hands and all of it.
I mean, even you must feel your your playbyplay muscle is rusty. And I know people might laugh hearing us say that, but your voice is a muscle. And I always find the first couple of weeks of the regular season are tough cuz you’re getting that muscle back into shape and then mid-season you’re rolling. But coming off not calling games for a month or two, it’s a challenge. It’s exhausting. We’re exhausted up here. Swung back out of the zone. Lobback’s going to come out getting Kersh comes out to play the puck. He was in another county and he can’t get back in time as it’s funneled into the slot in the low slot backhand at home. Who ends up getting that goal? Is it Cle? It is. So curse a gamble and it bites him. Yeah, it did. He decided to go for the I guess you’d call it home run poke check and he almost got away with it cuz a teammate got there to protect the net. But as it turns out, Teal gets the 4-2 goal. And I’m sure I’m getting Debb and Ryan Miller will they’ll talk about it with Kur. Not that big of a deal. Again, this is nobody’s winning a job or losing a job here today. Wong will put it up the wall. Neutron pivots the pill back up the boards and Wong will skate into it as a man on his tail. That’s Lewis forced back to the neutral zone. Marlo, nice little move trying to get beyond the defenseman and time will run out on Landon Marlo, but a nifty move nonetheless right at the horn. Well, we should talk a little bit about Landon Marlo being here. Landon this past hockey season split his year. He he played at Powell River. That’s in the British Columbia Hockey League. 28 games there, two goals, six points. Then he was pointless in four games in the NHL North American Hockey League, another junior league for a team called Jeansville. Undrafted and Landon invited here to take part in this development camp. But for now, sticking with trying to make it. He’s still young and everybody doesn’t develop in the same rate and just because the name on your sweater is associated with one of the greatest players in the history of the San Jose Sharks doesn’t guarantee you anything. You’ve got to earn your keep. You’ve got to find your way. And that’s what Landon’s trying to do. And you never know when a player decides that he doesn’t want to chase that dream anymore. But Landon’s so young, it’s just the beginning of a process for him. And what an opportunity for him here toh play against players of a higher level. And uh wouldn’t it be great one day to see another Marlo in the National Hockey League? We wish Landon only the best. I’m sure he grew up playing ball hockey as a Bay Area native born in Lascatoos. And you can learn to play ball hockey as well. This five-week program is designed for all levels to learn the fundamentals. It’s for ages 4 through 14. Join us in San Jose on September 26 and 27th by signing up at sgsharks.com/ youth hockey. So, we’re off to quarter number four and we do have a goalending switch on both sides. So Ravensburg and back in the nets to our left for team white and JP Law in the net to our right for team teal. Nick Nolenberger alongside Randy Han Dickson swings it far side. Picked off Mutin. Poked back to Fitzgerald in his own zone and lifted along here for Galant. Galant will play it ahead for Mutin. Mutin working to the cage. Good stick. M Downey. Puck loose in the low slot pulled back in by team Tio. Galant tried to twist one in front. That’s picked off. And here comes team white. Musty will lead the rush down the left wing side. Slows it down. Hands off Mold Downey. Shoots. Scores. Joey Mulowi goes upstairs and beats goender Pon up and over the right shoulder. And team White is on the board back within a goal. 29 goals for University of Connecticut for Joey Maldown last season and he tucked that one away nicely. Top shelf and the Buffalo area natives connect on that goal. Those two grew up playing with one another just outside of Buffalo.
Lake View, New York. Sounds like a pretty place. So, back underway. 4-3 lead for team teal. Golden Roberts down the left wing side. He’ll pull up. Roberts will lay it along to the point and it’s skated back to the neutral zone by McKenna. It’s incredible, Randy, with the change in the CHL rules. So many of these guys who played in either WHL, the O, or the Q, who could not have went off to college are now scheduled to do so. And Colton Roberts is one of those guys as here come team Tal and Pamp just wires one home to push the team lead back to two. That was a shot and a half. What a wrist shot by Paul Camp as he goes over the shoulder of Ravensburg top shelf to give them back the twogoal lead for Team Teal. That was a rocket of a wrist shot. We’ve seen the slap shot, high velocity, and Eric Colamp pulling the trigger again there. And wish we had a a gun on that one cuz did he ever let that thing fly. And now it’s 53 now. Sabot down the right wing side for team White. Tried to tuck it in short side. Save made by Pon Paul Camp. He’s 21 years of age and when you see him off the ice, he is well built. his upper body. You don’t see a ton of hockey players that are jacked like Caramp is, but probably where he gets some of that velocity behind a shot. Listed as 510 but 200 lb. 807 left here in this fourth quarter. 53 is the lead for Team Teal. It’s been a fun morning slash early afternoon to wrap up development camp. Here comes Turner Shaw working to the four and he puts it off the post. Back to Chernaw from Misa dancing in a phone booth and he lost the handle and it’s reeled in by a Ravensburg. Ah, some nice chemistry there between Misa and Chernob. Sugar with two excellent scoring opportunities, but Ravensburg and after giving up full cam goal battling back here as we see that chance again for Jesus just lifting it off the post. And you mentioned it Randy, he is well built and he looks like it. He looks NHL ready from a size standpoint and he’s just 19 years of age. Here comes Chernoshoff down the wing. Tried to center in front and it’s gobbled up. Chernoshoff, he had a shoulder injury right before camp. Did not play until almost the start of the new year. He joined Sagena and he just absolutely took off in his first real taste of North American hockey. He will either be with the Cuda or the Sharks this year. I would imagine he’ll play games for both. 5-3 lead for team teal. This our final quarter of four at the prospect scrimmage. Marlo coming down the wing. This year you got a stick on puck. Marlo pulls the puck back in. Lays it for Beck. Beck trying to stuff it to the crease and a bit from in tight by Lewis. Wouldn’t go. And team teal will skate it back up and out of their own zone. Chernaw fears middle ice as he gains a line. Swings it to the near side for Michael Fischer. Back for Igor Chernaw. His shot goes off of Fiser and it pinballs its way back to the neutral zone. Fisher back over the line. Team Tal making a partial change. Picked up by Lback and he just fanned on the pole of the trigger. Now he drops it for Cle and he put it wide. Cle looking for his second of the game. David Cle North Dakota commit to the near side for Reese Lombach. And Lobach is going to decide to take it back to the neutral zone to allow for a change. Ali Wong, he’ll dance his way through Muldown. And then he lost the handle right at the final moment. Pretty elusive for a big guy. He can move at 66 now. Dancer out there. Hips don’t lie. Havlin far side. Al down top of the circle. Gives off for Quinton Musty. Musty tries to pull up. Pocket picked by Wong. And Wong tumbling down to a knee. His pass taken away. And Becket of the zone. Here comes team White. Musty to the net for Mold Downey. Those two are already connecting once and Mulani had it lift just over the net.
And how many of you had a Shakira reference on your bingo card today?
Here comes Galant back in transition. Galant has a step working to the back hand of Ravensburg and moving laterally keeps the puck out. Still no penalties in this game, Nick. I’m disappointed.
I know.
I’m not going to lie. I wanted to see the penalty shot with the element of the chase.
But then there’s the announcer Jinx. And now that I’ve said it, we’re probably going to get one in the next 30 seconds. Mutin lost it to McKenna. And Cole McKenna will bring it up the left wing side. Top of the circle. He tried to open up, but he lost the handle. And then Dickinson finishes his check off on Teddy Neutrin. rimmed around the wall and picked up on that far side. Team White controlling Max Heis and thrown back to the ne zone for Dickson. 422 left here in this fourth quarter as Dickinson back into his own end. Left wing side for Carson Wetch. Wetch will play for Colona next year in the Western Hockey League. near side. Roberts kicked out. Good stop there by Pon. Now Nemitz gives it back for Paul Camp. He was fighting it a little bit with the pressure coming via Carson Wetch. Kill will restart into the offensive zone. It’s carried center into the low slot. Scooped back up by team White Sabot down the right wing side. Well defended by Paul Camp. Now Sabota back for Roberts. Uh-oh. Lost his footing. And this is going to be a breakaway starting from the own defensive zone. It’s a twoon. Here comes team T. A little give and go. And it’s ripped upstairs by Pamp. That should be the hattick for Eric Pamp. And indeed it is. We’ve got some hats coming out onto the ice here at TechCU Arena. You got to love that. A development camp game in July in downtown San Jose. And we got hats on the ice. But I’ve never seen an official throw it back into the crowd. One of the lines we just did. So Pamp who was a star in this game last year with the hat-tick he’s got the last two goals for team teal and a couple of beauties showing off that great shot. So team teal up by three. Chernov rightwing side. Jesaw for Misa. Misa can’t dance his way through Marlo. There goes Ravensburgen for the extra skater. 6-3 lead. We’re under three minutes to go. So team White needs some offense in a hurry. Marlo here’s side for Sharp. Return back to Landon Marlo. Team White down by three. Marlo collects off the inside of the skate. Shoots. Same. Puck loose and shovel just wide by Lewis in tight. They needed that one. Now a bad giveaway. Lewis has it. Shoots and the save is made. That’s a good one by Pon. 222 left here in the fourth quarter. And back to retrieve the puck is Zack Sharp. Empty net to our left. So a four on three here. First two quarters were four on four. Final two, three on three. But the extra skater on with a net empty. Here’s a chance busting in down the right wing side for team white was Max Heis. And it’s pinched along the left side by Pon and held on. Well, things have opened up in this second half as we’ve gone three on three, but I’ll tell you the goalending of team White really stands out in this game right now. It’s been excellent. And that one just wide to the empty net.
A bit at the empty net. That puck got up on its edge and feared the wide of the cage. So an icing against team teal.
Nick, while I have you quickly, if you’re going to pick a player or two who you really think will graduate from the Barracuda this year to the Sharks, who do you think they’ll be? Well, I think there’s going to be multiple names in the conversation. And you think about guys like Maan and Graph. I think they maybe not mukulan for sure graph maybe not but they’re pretty close to graduating
so it’s hard to really pinpoint I’m looking forward to guys like Musty Chernaw Kenyon what a brilliant season he put together there’s a lot of names in the hat and that’s what gets you excited about this prospect depth
but I think you’re exactly right Kenyon probably at the top of the list Beck now near side mold down left side quick one-time off the outside of the cage team white running out of time here we’re down 120 left here in the fourth quarter. Here’s a shot off the post by McKini from a wicked angle and a foot race to the puck. Mulani tying up Lback and Team White will carry the pill back in transition. Minute to go now in this fourth quarter. Team Teal up 63. Wetch. Musty back for Wetch and he tipped it through the back door and just kind of whipped off his stick and went behind the goender. Another chance for Wetch. This time he buries it. Some redemption. Big grit on his face. Down to 35 seconds. Wet will try again. And that is into the armpit region of Pon and he holds on. So this game not quite over, Randy. 33 seconds left. 6-4 lead for team teal. Think they have any set plays off the face off? I don’t. I’m sure Jumbo or Patty could think of some quickly. Surprised they didn’t use their time out there. Havlin down low. Wet comes free. Sabot given off back left side. Musty up top. Havlin back for Musty. 19 seconds left. And it’s steered out of the zone by Wong. And all the way down the surface it goes. This You’ve only missed two games, I believe, in your career, and that’s for the birth of your two sons. Is that correct?
Yeah. And one’s 31 now. The other one’s 30. It’s been a while.
There’s a shot that’s into the open net. Team Teal pushes its lead back to three. Both scorer Teddy Mutant and the open four by six. But when you’ve got Team White, Team Teal, and it’s all Sharks prospects, there’s no losers. But it does look like team is going to claim the Marchman Cup this year at 2025. Everyone’s a winner. They got invited here today.
That’s exactly right. And that will do it for the 2025 Prospect Scrimmage. Team Teal takes it by a final score of 74. Great to have you on the broadcast, Hunter. Thought we were only going to have you maybe for pregame. you stick it out for the entirety of it, but uh fun getting to call this game with you. Well, I can say one thing, and I know this for sure, and I know Drew doesn’t do all the games with you, but he’s got nothing to worry about. It’s a whole different ball of wax trying to call color on these broadcasts, but great to work with you. Great to be at the hockey rink in July and see these prospects. Uh Misa was exciting. Turn stuck out as a a tremendous talent. Full camp with the hat-tick. Team Tal’s goalending I thought was terrific. Both Kersh and Ravensburgen combined to uh hold down to four. Just four goals allowed and we played four on four and three on three. Faced a ton of chances in this game. And now I will allow you
Well, we got a special guest. We we do
to present the Marchman Cup presentation of the Marchman Cup in honor of the late Brian Marchman.
And Logan Couture is here at TCU Arena. Looks like he’s got his young son joining him. What a great touch. This is awesome. Incredible. And Logan looking like he’s moving pretty well given the circumstance. Logan announcing not that long ago that his playing days as a San Jose Shark have come to an end. Big smile on his face out there with his son as they take some pictures and get ready to present the Marchman Cup to the team captain for team teal. And it’s Reese Lavak, the San Jose native. That’s got to be quite the thrill for Ree obviously getting drafted by his hometown team, but to see guys like Logan Couture that I’m sure he looked up to and idolized and Reese Hoy the Stanley Cup weighs a little over what 33 somewhere around there pounds. I wonder what the Marchman Cup weighs. Maybe a little bit lighter.
Yeah, that’s definitely a one-hander. They’re kissing the Marchman Cup. And of course, this trophy named after the great Brian Marchman.
Well, you know, you don’t touch the Marchman Cup until you win it.
That’s exactly right. But, you know, we make light of it, but you never know. there. There’s someone out there right now with that Harshman Cup in their hands who might or on the other side who didn’t win it today might get a chance to touch that Stanley Cup somewhere down the line as this Sharks team builds back up and today was just another stepping stone toward that. Fun to see all these prospects out there. So much talent assembled here in one place and also great to see all these fans come out in July to watch some hockey.
Yeah, the support incredible. Great crowd on hand on this Independence Day eve. Normally this game is actually held on the 4th of July, so everybody gets to disperse. And as Randy noted a couple of times, a lot of these players are actually heading back home. Some coming all the way around the globe to get here.
Team photo now. I love it. I love it
as they are giving out the and have given out the Marchman Cup to Team Teal. Fun event, fun to kind of scratch that itch, if you will, to see some Sharks hockey and things will start to kick up into gear early September. We’ll have rookie camp. We’ll have the rookie faceoff, which I believe will be in Anaheim this year. That has not been announced, but I believe that’s where it will be. last year in LA. Of course, Sharks hosted a couple of years ago and that’s just the appetizer to train camp and beyond. But always a fun event. Both teams now taking a a photo. 74 final team wins this one. Any final thoughts, Hunter, before we sign off here?
Well, as I said earlier, I’m pumped. I’m excited about this coming season. This is kind of an entree to uh some of the talent that’s in the pipeline here. And Frank Greer and his staff have done a tremendous tremendous job restocking the cupboard. And it was bare and that’s a function of being a good team for a long time and trying to get over to the finish line and and making moves at the deadline and giving up assets to do that and at some point you pay the price. And thankfully it seems like we’ve gone through that. We’re past that and now we can talk about the building of this thing back up again. Uh to be uh a franchise that we can all be proud of that the Bay Area can embrace like it did for so so long. And we’ve got some tremendous young players in this organization and I’m really looking forward to training camp coming up in September and the start of that uh regular season sometime in October. and uh we’ll see you all down at the ring.
Indeed, schedules will be coming out soon, including the schedule for the Barracuda as well. So, make sure to keep it tuned to all Sharks and Barracuda social channels. That does it for our broadcast coverage. A huge thank you to our technical services group behind the scenes and the wonderful and legendary Randy Han.
