Rich Eisen: How the Jalen Ramsey/Minkah Fitzpatrick Trade Impacts the Dolphins | The Rich Eisen Show

we we’ve talked quite a bit about the Steelers side of this trade What about the Dolphins side of this trade um first things first they’re getting a very talented player in Minka Fitzpatrick back Last time they had him I don’t think they really knew what the hell to do with him quite frankly so they sent him to the Steelers uh for a first round draft choice Uh this time around Anthony Weaver who is the defensive coordinator who I believe uh got a ton of run in the interview process and has a head coach written all over him I kind of I kind of dig what what he’s going to do The bottom line is on the defensive side of the ball Um and and Minka Fitzpatrick will absolutely help 100% Certainly if uh Jaylen Ramsay and the team were not going to uh be together anymore and the leverage appeared to dissipate and disappear um that they would be able to trade Jaylen Ramsay for Minka Fitzpatrick and according to Tom Pelisero um they paid him 4 million bucks already this year They added three more onto the deal and the Steelers are picking up the rest of the contract which runs through 2028 So that gets a ton of dollars off the books And I imagine part of the reason again I’m not a capologist I’m not locked in on the situation I’m just sitting here in Los Angeles admittedly um talking about it The Tua deal had to change a lot of the finances about the future for this team you know Um and I don’t know if that’s what’s going on We only see the tip of icebergs in in this world I don’t know why Jaylen Ramsey had to go Apparently he did to do it for Minka Fitzpatrick Not a bad swamp You get all that money off the books and I guess you’re going to just have to start from scratch and at the you know cornerback position and right now you take a look at the Miami Dolphins depth chart and they are um young at the corner spots They’ve got Storm Duck by the way great name Uh in year two I believe year two Yeah he’s a second season player out of Louisville
Um and he’s their one of their starting corners and the other one is is a kid they got in the fifth round of the draft 150th overall Jason Marshall Jr out of Florida So they’re going to be green back there And I think any Dolphin fan will tell you when it comes down to it cuz they drafted Kenneth Grant who I can tell you this He’s awesome He’s going to And because you know you know Christian Wilkins is gone This guy Kenneth Grant you are going to love him And it’s really about our are our Chub and and Jaylen Phillips going to come back cuz that back end is is raw with even with Minka on the corners Go hunt Got to get home Got to get home and these guys have to be healthy And it’s really going to be about Tua’s health as well Uh you know when it comes down to it again if they and Jaylen were going to divorce to get Ma Fitzpatrick back I think is aces He’s makes 15 a half this year You get 26 million off your books this year Um admittedly already 7 million paid And if J if if Jaylen Ramsey didn’t want to be there anymore and you signed him to a three-year contract extension last September and he’s under contract through 2028 and you could turn that into an improved draft choice in 2027 and um and Minka Fitzpatrick uh you know it’s good but I I I would you want to do what’s more likely Chris let’s do what’s more likely Steelers or Dolphins go further this year Who do you choose a last longer situation Who do you choose i don’t think they I don’t think either make the playoffs
I guess right now I’d say Pittsburgh instead of Miami
And and they’re also now according to Tom Pelosero having traded John Smith Now they’re in the market for a tight end right
which I I would profer to say July 1 ain’t the time to go look for one unless you think you know Kyle Pittz maybe a situation there
Possible Sure You know you
you’ve heard his name thrown out there Someone said Michael Meyer on Oak Las Vegas Maybe he’s available Yeah you’re right You know and again you talk about quarterback combination with the coach under pressure Is it is it the QB
it’s it’s both It’s both these teams involved in this trade
It’s both of them Yeah they’re both one and two I think if you’re talking about pressure for this year
they’re just fast as hell They are fast as hell on offense And if they’re all healthy and they can be fast as hell on offense and win games by putting 30 something points on the board they can beat you
Yeah
The Miami Dolphins
Tua’s cap number is 14% of Miami’s a loted salary
Again I mean when you’re paying somebody what they’re paying Tua they’re going to have to make decisions And I guess they and Jaylen Ramsey were not going to be together anymore And there’s Ma Fitzpatrick back And again I think Anthony Weaver is going to know what to do with him Catch the Rich Eisen Show live weekdays from 12 to 3:00 p.m

  1. Not sure how Tua’s contract comes into this. Jalen wasn’t happy in Miami so we moved him. There’s about 15 QBs in the league whose cap hit is similar or larger than Tua. That’s kinda par for the course.

  2. Miami won. Ramsey has been a problem everywhere he's been with phantom injuries and hasnt been elite since the jags. Got rid of two meh players who were gonna sit out for an all-pro who should play.

  3. I am at the 3:59 mark. Come on Rich you are asking a Steeler hater not to hate. Says well I guess um they are both not making the playoffs then shrugs while looking at the floor

  4. 26 mil for Ramsey is too much, 12 mil for Smith is too much. I love both players but both overpaid now. Hopefully the Fins can sign a CB and trade for a TE because there's nothing there now

  5. 2:43 Yeah we're real excited about Kenneth Grant he's the real deal baby watching see Pro Bowl day one All pro day one also Thank you very much Rick eisen for mentioning him😮

  6. The issue with Ramsay, and some other plays we've had in recent years, is that they'll sign a new deal and after one season they'll demand another deal. I'm almost always going to be on the side of letting those players go. It's a bush league move.

  7. I wonder how often that a team trades away a player of Fitzpatrick's talent and then trades to get him back in their later in their career?

  8. Tua is one more concussion away from hanging them up…lousy arm talent. I think Miami will suck really really bad next year. Ramsey will be the case study on how you set your franchise back by over paying for a player on the back end of his career..

  9. So happy to have Minkah Fitzpatrick back in Mia. I'd take him over Ramsey any day. And Pittsburgh is picking up all but $7 mil total of Jalen contract.

Jonnu Smith balled out last year for sure. But he's played for 4 teams soon to be when he plays for the Steelers. Since he was came into the NFL in 2017, he's had 1 good season. That was last year in Miami. If he was that good he wouldn't be on his 5th team. I'm glad that the Dolphins didn't pay him for being great 1 year out of 7 years played. For him to demand more money for doing his job great 1 yr is ridiculous. It was likely the system not Jonnu. I've also heard Miami is interested in Seattle TE Noah Fant.

As for Jalen Ramsey I'm glad he's gone. Every team he's been on he eventually demands to be traded. I'd rather not have people like him & Jonnu on my team. With the kjnd of mentality & entitlement they exude. Pass. I think Ramsey is going to hate it in Pittsburgh & possibly even have his worst season ever. He's never played for a cold weather team. Not in college & not in the NFL. I don't see his whiny a$$ playing well in Pittsburgh cold. Come Nov on he's going to wish he was still in Miami. He's also getting to the age that players start to decline. Ramsey definitely doesn't deserve to be the highest or even 3rd highest paid corner in the NFL. Maybe 5 yrs ago.

  10. As a dolphin's fan I can tell you that this trade is the product of mismanagement by Grier and McDaniel. The reason Ramsey had to be traded is because the relationship between him and McDaniel had deteriorated to the point where he was refusing to play. The reason that the trade had to include Smith was because Grier has a bad track record of handing out big contracts and extensions to aging free agent players. As much as I would have liked to see Jonnu remain in Miami, the fact that the dolphins were able to move Ramsey, and recoup Fitzpatrick is unfortunately the cost of trying to undo a bad contract and a bad situation. The 5th for 7th round pick swap to helps a little to facilitate a potential trade for a Jonnu Smith replacement. I just can't help but feel that the dolphins would have been in a much better situation had they not going out and burnt draft capital to bring Ramsey in in the first place.

  11. There at least 5 starting TE available for trade, and the secondary, the corners will be better than expected. Ramsey was not worth the money the fins paid him. Devante Adam ran a clinic on him this past season, he wasn't the only one either…. Beautiful trade, Jonnu Smith will not have the same type of production he had in Miami, even with his old OC

  12. We'll see how Fitzpatrick fits in Weaver's Defense as the Season goes along. I don't know who the Starting CBs are going to be.
