MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 3, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Kansas City Royals taking on the Seattle Mariners. First pitch coming your way next. Just about set to go now. And today’s starter, Luis Castillo. And Singi, he likes pitching at home.
Well, truly for him, there is no place like home. He’s been so dominant here. And as a teammate, you expect him when pitching at home this year to go out and dominate just as he has. The fans expect it, but I think everyone around here knows that he’s a good pitcher. Even though we don’t see the same splits on the road, we’re going to start to see that translate as well.
And now Jonathan India. That’s outside.
And we’re underway from Seattle. He was late there. Strike one. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. [Applause] The pitch misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike.
Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Still two and two after the foul ball. Little tardy on that fast ball. He’s going to have to get it going a little quicker. Get that front foot down. Out to short. Crawford zips it across. One up, one down. Let’s take a look at our lineup. Getting guys across the plate. not exactly a forte for them this year as their offense is in the bottom third of the league in runs scored.
It becomes extremely frustrating and then what happens is guys press especially in runcoring opportunities and situations. On top of that, I mean you really make it harder on your pitcher. He feels like he’s got to be perfect to go out there and win a ball game or at least to put the team in a position to win a ball game. So, and they’ve got to figure out a way to relax, get those runners across when they have them on and especially when they’re in scoring position. Well struck left field. A Rosarena going back onto the track and he makes the catch. Thought that was a no doubter like the wind was holding that in this ballpark. Two outs, space is empty. Mike El Garcia steps in for the Royals. That’s a strike going one.
Cold night tonight, Boo. And that’s a pretty firm fast ball right there. I tell you what, memories of getting jammed, they creeping into my mind right now.
That missed by a lot. And the count is one and one.
Two out. Space is empty. That’s a ball. And that one misses up and in. And now three and one. Line drive and foul ball. Two down. Nobody on. Hon misses. It’s a strikeout. Nothing doing for the Royals. Now it’ll be the AR’s turn. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back at T-Mobile Park, our starter in this one, Chris Bubich. What do you look for here?
Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. I mean, it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point. Maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow we’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. [Applause] JP Crawford leading things off and takes a strike. J. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. One away.
Good pitch right there. I mean, he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with. And there’s just so much information in this day and age. Sometimes too much information. But the guys that can take that information, process it, and then go out there, boo, and execute the pitch, go right after that hitter, and get the result that they were anticipating. That’s really good pitching right there. And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together. One down, base is empty. And it’s fouled away. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. And they’ll do it again. Kansas City chopped left side. Garcia fires to first on the run and they get the out. And now we check out the Mariners lineup.
They’re dealing with a top level arm on the mound. So this figures to be a tough matchup for him. What’s the key to the offense today, Singy? Well, Boo, I think when you got a guy that’s this talented on the mound, you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm, make him uncomfortable a little bit. The guys that can handle the bat and perhaps, you know, bunt, bunt for a base hit, get him moving off the mound. If you’re in the box and he seems to be just in a flow, step out, mess up his timing, somehow try to get in his head a little bit, and then when he does come in the zone, you may only get one pitch. You better not miss it. Two outs down the middle for a strike and it’s 0 and two. And Singi as a team you need to make the most of the very few opportunities he’s going to give you. Right.
Absolutely. And and you know if you don’t get to guys like this a lot of times early once they really settle in. It’s going to be the later innings that they hand that ball over to a reliever if they do at all. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Come on. And that one is inside. [Applause] base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Nice line drive to the pull side. Met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield.
So now it’s the Mariner cleanup hitter Luke. That one misses ball one. Raleigh leads off first with two down to the inning. And now two and nothing.
Two balls. No strike on the inside corner for a strike. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill and a foul ball. [Music] Swings and miss has struck him out. Mariners leave one scoreless after one. New inning getting started. And now Vinnie Pasquantino.
Vinnie Pasquantino to the right side. And that one finds its way through.
Had a good start to the inning. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. And that’s through there for a strike. It’s 0 and one.
This is a hitter who takes his game to another level playing at night. That’s out the corner.
Boob. Rusty Valentine umpiring behind the plate in this one. He has what you might call a tall strike zone both at the letters and down below the knees.
Yeah. And I’m sure that helps a lot of pitchers we see today who like to work up down trying to change eye levels and swing paths.
Yep. Exactly. And it falls. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out.
Oh, he didn’t get much of that one, but it’s going to look like a line drive in the box. Score tomorrow. Pitchers away. So, he definitely pulled off it there. Not what you want to do with the pitch in that location really, but he was able to guide it into the outfield for the knock. Learn in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the Oh, now this one is blasted to right forget it way back there and gone. He’ll take a jog around the bases and they take the lead. It’s three nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. aggressive and it paid off. Well, he went up there O looking to do damage. I think he had his sight set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. Here’s Mark Can. Foul ball can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. [Music] [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field and that’ll fall for a base hit. Four hits in a row and they’re really swinging it here. That’s a ball that a lot of times you’ll see the shorts stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough, but right there it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff for the base hit. Next to hit, Freddy Fine. Pitch in for a strike. One. [Applause] Castillo will look to first and he dives back in safely. right through there for a strike. I understand you want to try to gauge that guy’s fast, but you also have to be aggressive and ready to hit in your zone. Now you’re in a tough spot. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Applause] This one in the air right field. And no one could get to it. It’s a foul ball. The O2 stays alive. Runner at first with no outs here. [Applause] Struck looking. Just excellent location on that inside fast ball. It really locked him up and It’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called the ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. [Applause] The one [Applause] in there at the knees.
Two and one. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] in the air. Right field, Kenzone under it. Calls it in and there’s two away. The batter number six, second base, Jonathan India.
So, the Royals batting order turns over. Jonathan India now at the plate, 0 for one so far. [Applause] in there for strike one. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Two outs way outside and it’s a ball to strike. [Applause] Way high two ball one straight [Applause] line drive base hit. Ruer puts on the brakes at second. So it’s first and second with two out.
Oh, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Whit now at the plate as he swings through strike one.
One strike. [Applause] Traffic on the bases with three already across here in the top of the second. Swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field. nabs it and that’s the third out. Royals grab three on this homer. It’s now three nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. We head to the bottom of the second. stepping in Randy and Rose Arena. He’s already set a new career best for stolen bases in a season, Chris. Right through there for a strike.
A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive, keep attacking hitters, try to cruise through this ball game. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope.
Headed towards the corner and he hops over the wall for an automatic double.
Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. And here is Dominic Canzone just missed. And that one in the air center field. Waters in position, pulls it down and he makes the catch. One down. Batting seven. The catcher Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver up to hit here. [Applause] Ground ball left side sends it to Perez and he’s out. Batting the second baseman, Cole Young. Cole Young up next for the Mariners. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Let’s go. And that clips the inside corner. perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. That’s a little bit low. Really good take especially with two strikes. Two and two
in the dirt. Blocked. A Rosarena on it second with two down. Slider misses outside and a foul ball. He stays alive. Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. So, a leadoff double, but they can’t cash it in. We head on now to the top of the third. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing. Back in Seattle, top half of the third inning. Now, here is Mike
Garcia. Castillo back to work. And that one a little below the knees and it’s one and0.
Well, these Royals doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side.
And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound.
Fast ball for a strike late with the swing there. threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder.
Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Right through there. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Oh, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. On the ground sends it to first. First two batters retired here in the top of the third. Now batting the first baseman, Salvador Perez.
Two down, base is empty. Salvador Perez getting ready to hit. Singleton scored his first time and a foul ball. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. Come on. Battling here as he fouls it away.
Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches.
That one way outside. One and two to count. Breaking ball. This is down and away. And now it’s filled up.
Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on. swings and misses and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Bats are quiet there, but they’re on top by a count of three to nothing. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the rookie third base, Ben Williamson. Williamson Williamson measures 6 ft even 24 years old and he was a second round pick in 2023 inside corner for a strike quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher cuz you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. Chases the fast up the ladder. Struck him out.
Oh, that high fourseam fast ball. It’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years. And what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well. The problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to jump by you. You expand your zone. You don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact. If you do, many times it’s a popup.
Crawford takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Fast is outside. Well,
he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Yeah. And that one ripped into right. Kaggle Leone pulls it down and there’s two gone. The center fielder number 44, Julio. Julio Rodriguez. Now, he might be the most popular player in Seattle sports at the moment. Freeman is a machine when it comes to extra base hits. In fact, going back 30 years, nobody has more doubles in a two season span. Freddy is the best at it. That stat is a huge reason why he’s such a dangerous hitter. He can spray the ball all over the field, end up on second base, and always pop up with a smile. It’s almost like he’s killing you with kindness. Get out of here, boys. We’re talking about his ability to collect extra base hits, but Freeman can really do it all. He can swing with the best hitters, steal bases, and he’s great with the glove defensively. Not close with that one. The countdown two and two. [Applause] Got him swinging. Mariners are down in order. Still down three nothing. And we’re back. And now Jack Leone. Here’s something cool. When they finished building T-Mobile Park back in 1999, they actually opened it up in the middle of the season. I remember as a rookie with the Chicago White Sox, we opened the season at the Kingdom and then when we came back later in the year, we were playing at T-Mobile Park. It’s a beautiful place. Great scenery from center field and I always enjoyed playing here.
One-1 now. That one fouled off the one two and misses inside. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another.
Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Here we go. And that just misses, popped up to the left into foul ground. Williamson settles under it and makes the catch and there’s one down.
Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter.
Mark Cana steps in for the Royals. One for one with a single so far at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Music] And strike two. inside. Almost got him. One out. Base is empty. And that’s in the dirt.
These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. Got him outside. Pitched. Got the better of him that time. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now.
Freddy
Freddy Fine will hit next. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Ball one there. One ball, no strike. Hit in the air left field. Rodriguez, he’s got it. And that’ll do it. Bottom of the fourth. Here’s some real power at the plate. Cal Raleigh just missed.
Well, these Mariners as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. fought off foul. Come on, man. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Here’s a one, two, and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Swings through that and it’s a strike out. And that’s six Ks for him in this one.
That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things.
But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity batting for the second time and that’s strike one.
Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. The 1-1 is fouled off. fouls it off. Still one and two. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts.
Just absolutely rolling on the mound. He’s looking very much on his game in the early parts of this one, but fully on the attack with these hitters. That’s seven strikeouts already. So, he’s got a good pace going. No doubt. Possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. Rosarena needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. Two outs. Right through there for a strike.
Yeah. and making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. The throw to first. They get the out on a Rosena and the Mariners set down one, two, three. Nothing doing here this half. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top five, John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Drew Waters. Go Mariners. Off the plate. Ball one. Double barreled action in the bullpen. Ryan Woo appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Thornton getting cranked up as well. On the corner at the knees for a strike [Applause] up and in. Ball two. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished a little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Caught him looking for the king. I’m not really sure why he let that one go by. I mean, out of the hand, it had a lot of the strike zone. Sure, it had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate, but with two strikes, you got to be ready to swing it there. And you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands.
India the next to hit takes ball one.
One and0.
Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Pitch misses. And that’s ball two. There’s the strike of the knees. That one catches the zone. It’s two and two. That’s to third. Zips it to first. And the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Bobby Wit Jr.
Two outs. Base is empty. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. He’s turned into one of the best shorts stops in the game. Now a screamer into the outfield, brings it in with a nice running grab. And that is that. KC down in order, but they lead it three nothing. [Applause] We head to the bottom of the fifth now. Dominic Dominic. On paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side. Same side he throws from.
Throw sails over his head at first. doesn’t get too far away, so no one moves up. Now back.
That’s been a struggle on offense for them in this one. So maybe that wakes him up a little bit. You know, an error can certainly give the opposing lineup something to get excited about. You got somebody on base, so we’ll see if they can make something of it. Mitch Garver up next for the Mariners. First time up, he grounded to third. Fast is outside. Well, these Mariners just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for them to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group.
And there’s a ball and on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. Swing and a miss. And now two and two. Knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no. No. gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] The 2-2 now. That’s inside. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Got him swinging. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Up next for the marin the next co young [Applause] swing. No appeal.
Kenzone leads off first with one away. And there’s a foul ball. That misses and it’s two and one. Fouled off. if he was late. Two two down. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled.
At the plate, Ben Williamson struck out swinging his first time. And that’s in there for strike one. No ball one strike check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike.
Oh, two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. So he cracks double digits with his 10th strikeout. One left for Seattle. They trail in this one three nothing. Now pitching for and they make a change to start the six.2.
The new pitcher Ryan White
just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Now it’s going to be Mikel Garcia who’s 0 for two in a pair of strikeouts. Garcia, let’s go and that is out of play. Well, these Royals really impressing me with the quality of their at bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. Ran his pitch count up and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. and ball one. And no, they haven’t broken through in a big way in the runs column, but with the way they’re grinding out at bats, it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming. Foul ball still a one and two count. Just off the outside edge. Fights it off. You’ll see another.
Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, they’ve had a great plan of attack for him tonight. I mean, finding all the holes in his swing and his approach, just frustrating for him up there. You strike out a guy three times in a game. I think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach, figure out how they’re beating him, make this adjustment really quick cuz Word will get around the league in a hurry. And now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Vinnie Pasquantino right side. Kenzone. He’s got it. There’s two away. Now batting the first base.
Two down. Base is empty. And to the plate for Kansas City. Salvador Perez. One for two. Woo. 25 years old. and he was a sixthround draft pick in 2021. That one to first Raleigh, he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Three up, three down that time. Top of the order, do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing. Bottom of the sixth inning and stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford.
JP Crawford Bubich back to work. That’s too low. And that’s ball one. [Applause] fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Right side India over to first in time. And quick out number one.
Center fielder Julio Rodriguez. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. 0 for two in this one. The Mariners knew what they had. signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican Republic. He swings and fouls one off. The Royals leading by three here in the bottom of the sixth. Misses outside. Going to count one and two. Fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the rookie of the year. The Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023. Part of a new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players. missed with a change up and the count’s even at two and that skips into the
He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked [Music] in the air left side. Cana makes the grab. Two down.
Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. That one is absolutely bel. [Applause] He didn’t pay for that one and they cut into the lead. It’s 3-1. That one just sounded different and it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. [Applause] Lukeley up next for the Mariners. [Applause] That’s down and in. [Applause] swings through the fast ball up in the zone. Action in the pen down there. Steven Cruz, the young right-hander up and throwing. Serpa getting loose as well. The 1-1. That one missed. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. Just about to hit that century mark. 100 pitches for this game. On the ground to short. Whit over to first.
That’s the third out. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. We go to the top of the seventh and now the right fielder Jack Kaggle.
Jack Kaggle. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Rodriguez makes the grab on the run.
Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Cana in the box again takes the strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. And a swing and a miss there.
When you throw a fast ball by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. All right, come on Mariners. Yeah,
that misses the zone. Now one and two and there’s a ball. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Here we go. Mariners. Ripped to short. Crawford throws to first in time. Now two out. Now back Freddy Fine. Freddy Fine steps in for the Royals. [Applause] Just missed. on the ground right side and it’s through for a hit and that extends the inning. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole.
Drew Waters stands in. And the first offering is not close. And another ball. two and 0 in the air left field. The Rosarena after it and that is that. So one left for Kansas City and the score stays 3 to one. [Music] Now pitching forward.
We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Steven Cruz.
Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up.
He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. And that one fouled off. Got him.
And one away.
A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this. when you got the lead off hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So a strike out really puts them on their heels.
Can zone at the plate for the third time as he comes up empty there. The Royals holding on to a two-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Late swing fouled to the left. [Music] and a swing and a miss coming out of the bullpen and throwing BB’s chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Garver up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Come on, Seattle. Started after the one-two pitch. Appeal to first. Did not go. Two down. Nobody on misses off the plate. Full count. Three and two. Cole Young waiting in the on deck circle. They can get him up. He’d represent the tying run. So critical pitch right here. on the ground to the left and it goes just foul [Music] and a 3-2 knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Music] Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Kaggle Leone on the move to the gap and that ends the inning. Now pitching.
Welcome back. a new arm on the mound to start the Trent Thornton. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Jonathan India to play. Boils the second baseman Jonathan India. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Let’s go. out of line out towards center. Rodriguez makes the catch and there’s one away. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. With the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one. Activity in the bullpen. Gabe Spire, the lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Brash, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. High chopper to third. Williamson fires over to first. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth.
Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base,
Mike. So, two down now and here is Mikel Garcia. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. Gets the call and that is strike one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. this to third. Tosses to first. Royals set down in order. So they go quietly there. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners won. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Anel Serpa. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead in the ball game.
Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here.
And now for Seattle, Cole Young.
Second base, Cole Young. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Carlos Estz, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] Line to left and that’s just foul. swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. So, the bullpen doing a nice job backing up the effort from their starter.
Yeah, we’ve seen some pretty excellent pitching out of this staff so far. I mean, they’ve come in ready to do their job and get outs. They’ve been pretty tough to get to in this one. And up next for Seattle, Ben Williamson. There’s the strike. That one. the other way takes it himself and a couple of quick outs. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Now batting shortstop JP Crawford
and the batter will be the shortstop JP Crawford 0 for three in this one. Robert to right field way back. [Applause] his seventh home run of the season. It’s 3-2. He wasted no time in that at bat. Swinging at the first pitch and he punished it. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the law, and gets the home run. So, two down and stepping in for the Mariners. Julio Rodriguez [Applause] in the first pitch misses for ball one. looking to get the tying run on base and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider.
Well, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. [Applause] And it remains two and two. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. [Music] [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. Cal Raleigh waiting on deck if they extend the inning.
Plenty of pop in his bat. So he could give them the lead with one swing if he gets the chance. Oh, look at the stop to first. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. But not before they answer back with a solo home run. It’s now a 32 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Now pitching forward.
We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Edward Bazardo. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. So now it’s the fourhole hitter, Vinnie Pasquantino, one for three. Pasquantino [Applause] Bazardo, a six-foot righty. He features a slider, a fourseamer, a sinker, and occasionally works in a splitter. Ground ball right side. Gets it to first. One up, one down. The batter, the first baseman, Salvador Perez.
Salvi steps into the box now. First pitch misses. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] And another ball that misses the zone. Three balls, no strikes. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. this to center field and that’ll fall for a base hit. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but
he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock.
And now here is Jack Kaggle Leone and he had a big swing of the bat early on in the ball game. Yep. a three-run rocket back in the second. Even though it was early, a big homer like that can be tough to come back from when you’re on the other end of that thing. I mean, it’s tough. Sets up an uphill battle the rest of the way. [Applause] First offering and it just misses.
And now a little barking back towards the umpire. clearly thought he got that outside corner on what was a pretty big pitch. Sometimes that only makes it worse for you moving forward, but it can also open up that location in the future that the umpire thinks there’s a chance that he missed it. Next offering is downstairs.
Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Ground ball off the middle. That’s a base hit. Rodriguez hustles to get it in. Lead runner holds at second base. First and second with one down.
Or a couple of singles back to back. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle. Even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Two on, one out. Kenna now at the plate. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Man, I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was.
Swinging a miss at a slider. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing anding miss and get through this at bat.
Got him looking for the strike out. Went back to the slider and it was a good idea. Just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s an at bat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. Didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. Next is the Royals catcher, Freddy Fine. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. Perez on second. Kaggle Leone at first. Two out of the inning. Next offering is in for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Squirts away a little bit [Applause] and down on strikes. That ends the inning as they squander a chance to pick up some insurance. No runs on two hits, no errors, and two men left stranded. Height of the order, 34,5 will get their shot in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners two. back now and on the mound a closer Carlos Estz. Save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with a W. [Applause] right side hard hit. Throws to first in time. A huge out to start the bottom of the ninth.
Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. Lukeley digs in now 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out and a strike. [Applause] That one out to right. Kaggleó gets there. He’s under it and there’s two away now. Batting the left fielder Randy down to their final.
Now it’s Randy Rosarena. Struck out on just three pitches last time. Late swing fouled off. A onun lead. Yeah. The home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] Swing and a taper that rolls foul. This could end it.
And that’s in the dirt.
Two strike. [Applause] [Applause] Fouls it off. Still one and two trying to close out a one-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Nine drive base hit. That’s tremendous fight from him. And I know it’s got the dugout fired up down there. Down to the last try and he comes up with a hit to keep the game alive. It ain’t over yet. Two outs. Runner on first. Dominic Canzone up next for the Mariners. Check on the runner. Rosarena dives back.
I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter, not a power guy, so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap.
First pitch doesn’t find the zone. going with the tying run at first base. He’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Drive it into a gap and score that run from first base. [Applause] Two outs, swings and misses. And the count one and one [Applause] right now. Now they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. Give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. And now the count is even. [Applause] That one missed. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitter’s got to stay focused on the pitch. Mitch Garver in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. Trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. Stays alive. [Applause] Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. [Applause] Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. 32 the final score for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
