  1. Sucks if true but what do you do, best of luck to the Danish King himself šŸ™

  2. This is so weird for me, since I also watch Carolina games sometimes since my brother in law is a fan of them. So it’s going to be so weird seeing Fly in a Carolina jersey for me.

  3. I don’t get the fit in Carolina honestly, he doesn’t fix any issues they have and has the same problems Necas had

  4. 6 years and 8.5 million AAV. How could we not beat that? I assumed it would take $9 million.

  5. Not unexpected whatsoever. I like Ehlers, I will miss him and I hope he is more healthy then he was in Winnipeg.

  6. Dang I’ll miss him. Under-utilized imo and a guy with elite speed and ability to gain the offensive zone and keep possession!!! Best of luck Nik!

  7. This just hurts to look at, hard to see fast hard checking hockey fitting his style of play but will be tuning into more of their games this year

  8. Enjoy your warm weather and anonymity, I hope the only Cup he ever sniffs is a jock strap.

  9. Sucks to lose him for nothing obviously but I think people are really dressing up how valuable he was for our team because of a few BETTER playoff games. The guy had flashes of brilliance but was always injured at the worst time and really never reached his potential.

  10. Just glad he is in the east not Vegas or Colorado.

Ill miss you Ehlers, sad day for Jets fans. We got significantly worse this summer

  11. Goodbye goodbye you were bigger than the whole sky

  12. Can’t really do anything if he was set on leaving. It’s all good, we’ll get it all sorted for the next season.

  13. Nyquist and Pearson will surely make up for the loss of Ehlers. Ugh.

  14. He has been a rental since the last trade deadline. That is the reality. Chevy knew it. I’m sure he entertained a few offers last year as well. In the end they rolled the dice on last season.

Its all good. Hopefully Nick helps the canes. I don’t really see the fit. What do I know though. Wish him success over there.

Big upside for us. He is in the East.

  15. He gets hurt WAY too much…like constantly. He is not built tough…but thanks and good luck to him.

  16. My son’s first signed jersey was Nik’s his second was Toews. So we are a little sad and happy all at once.

  17. A sad day for this city and team, but I wish him nothing but the best, he gave us 11 fantastic years.

  18. This sucks but doesn’t hurt nearly as bad as when the Jets coughed up Selanne for next to nothing in return.

  19. I liked him, but he was always an injury liability. Wishing him luck in Carolina.

  20. Glad Ehler got the bag, he deserves it. Having said that: Ehler will miss +20 games with injury this year

  21. Jets have to make sure they know what KFC’s intentions are. If he’s reluctant to re sign next season then we should trade him as soon as we can.

  22. While I respect his decision to leave, something just really grinds my gears about guys who have played hockey their whole life obsessing over hot weather, which is part of why I assume he left.

You’ve played hockey your entire life, spent most your life at probably around 32° Fahrenheit/0° Celsius, why does the weather outside matter that much? Even then, why do they like hot weather so much? Is it *because* they’ve spent most their lives in the cold?

I mean I knew I should have expected him to be gone but it hurts seeing players consistently avoid Winnipeg for more ā€œattractiveā€ cities despite Winnipeg being a team with a passionate but not very stressful fanbase.

Perhaps it’s just me having lived in VA my entire life, preferring the winters over the summers not having experienced Winnipeg weather, and not having ever really been one to visit cities for their attractions, but it just makes me a bit more disappointed seeing players leave knowing there is hardly anything we can do to entice them to come here.

I mean on the bright side he will be playing just south of me, but frankly I’m not a Hurricanes ā€œfanā€, I don’t hate them but I don’t actively root for them.

  23. I’ll take a wait and see attitude on this one.

We have had a few players leave for “greener pastures” and much hype, and then they can’t seem to replicate what they did in Winnipeg.

    Laine
    Trouba
    Dubois
    Broissoit
    Myers
    Chiarot
    Copp

Wish him well, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see him flame out.

  24. Should have stayed with the Jets. He won’t thrive in Carolina.

Good payday for him though, happy for him and his family.

  25. Hard to believe you would leave a team (The Jets) on the upswing with the best goaltender on the planet……

(And just won President’s Cup – sounds familiar hey pre Stanley Cup Champions….Capitals, Knights and Panthers??)

….for a team that has no reliable goalie, no chance will ever get past Florida, and has a coach that absolutely will stifle/kill Nic’s creativity…???!!!

Guess that’s what $8.5 million/$51 million over 6 years will do to a guy who prioritizes money over championships.
