MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 3, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Kansas City Royals taking on the Seattle Mariners. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set now. And on the hill in this one, George Kirby and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots.
Well, he brings into this one an excellent strike out to walk ratio on the season. And when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets and the fact that he’s not issuing free passes, that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count, allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games. So, we’ll see if that remains true in this one. That’s down and in. Two balls, no strike. That one misses. Three and O. Get out of here, boys. That one misses.
So, a lead off walk.
He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat.
Bobby.
Now, here’s Bobby Wit Jr. Come on, George. Foul ball there. Whit Jr. is one of only two players in ALL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons. Boo. The other player, Julio Rodriguez. Kirby checks over to first and he’s back. Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first and that is out of play. Next one misses and a count one and two. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout.
India gets his lead at first with nobody out. sets him down on strikes. That was pretty nasty. Michael Garcia getting ready to hit. [Applause] Just missed. Man, at first one away. pickoff throw and he’s back in on a dive. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. Ball misses. Safe at second. And that was not close. [Applause] One out and a runner at second. And that misses and it’s three and0.
Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count at
96. That pitch is in for a strike. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Strike three. A nice two. Most guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there on the base paths and can’t understand why he wasn’t ready to swing the bat. You’ve got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the go-ahead run in scoring position. So up now for Kansas City, Vinnie Pasquantino. He’s someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching. The lefties, however, give him a little bit more trouble. [Music] one and one
in the dirt and on the wild pitch. He goes down to third. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read. Gets to third safely and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. Outside low and a count two and one. No score yet, but a runner at third with two away. on the ground to third. Bear ball and they strike first as they take a one- nothing lead. Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give them the lead. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. [Applause] Yeah, he swings and misses and it’s nothing in one.
Oh, one’s the count. Runner at second. Two down. [Applause] Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Brown’s third headed for the plate now. A long throw home. It’s offline. The run comes in and they take a two-run lead.
He picks himself up an RBI. He kind of ruled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Jack Kaggle Leone. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Well, lots of pitches thrown in this first inning and it’s kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching. But you know what? It’s still early enough. He can settle in. He can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit. [Applause] Late swing fouled to the left. First inning and already up to 23 pitches. [Applause] Swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. They put two on the board with a couple of hits. No errors and one left. Onto the bottom of the first. It’s the Royals two and the Mariners coming to bat. back at T-Mobile Park and today’s starter, Michael Waka. What do you have on him, Sigy?
And a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game. He’s going to go out there, compete,
not going to see a whole lot of flare and flash, but he’s going to hand it over to the bullpen at some point. And if you’ve been able to score a few runs, you’ll be in it late. So, we’ll see if he’s able to do that for his club in this one. JP Crawford, the leadoff batter, as he swings through it for strike one. Waka more than a 100 career wins on the mound and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in Iowa. And he grounds one to the right side and foul ball. The shorts stop takes the ball. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. And he hits a ground ball right side. Kaggle Leone steps on the bag. One up, one down.
And now we check out the Mariners lineup
and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, Julio Rodriguez. Well, Boog, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Julio Rodriguez at the plate and takes high there. One down, base is empty. And a swing to miss.
Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action.
Two strikes. Next offering way off the plate. and a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion.
Tap foul at the plate. Rodriguez over at first with one away and that’s through there for a strike and the count is 0 and two. Squirts away a little bit to second but way too late. Safe there. So wild pitch allows the runner to advance.
Well, that right there erases the chance at the inning ending double play. So good job on the bases to move up on the wild pitch. Changes the outlook of the inning in a pretty big way. Runner at second here. One gone. Way inside. Gets out of the way. Knocks that one away and will do it again.
That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Three and two. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. The kick, the 3-2, and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Grinding AB right here about to see pitch number 10. And ball four to a board. Oh, he earned his trip to first right there. It’s not easy laying off pitches that just miss the zone like that. And it’s a real discipline as well. He’s put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and it paid off right there.
Now it’s Randy Rosarena. Late swing fouled all And that one upstairs. Ball one.
One out. Runners at first and second. There’s the strike. Well, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. That’s a this one in the dirt. Well, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit, try to move it around, create just a little bit of illusion at the end.
Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out.
Just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion.
Swinging a foul out of play. Let’s go Dominic
at the belt and fires. Swinging a ground ball. Dives, but it kicks off his blow. Safe at first as they can’t make the play. That one. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case.
Here’s Donovan Solano. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently, hitting better than 350 this mark.
Inside just missed, swings through that. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. [Applause] That one the other way down the line and it’s foul. [Applause] on the ground to third. Zips it to first. Out to escape a bases loaded jam unscathed and the Mariners strand the bases loaded and they’re down two nothing. Back in Seattle, second inning set to go. Drew Waters stands in. Waters. Kirby back to work. Misses outside and that’s ball one. [Applause] very consistent with his zone. Chris gets a lot of praise for that.
He does, Boo. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Fillmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. One ball, two strength. That’s ball two. That misses the zone and it’s three and two. Swing and a miss. Stuck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder. But then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Kenzone makes the grab. Two down. Batting nut, the center fielder number 28.
Two out, space is empty, and now it’s Kyle Isbel. The other way and that’s just foul. Two out, space is empty towards first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Royals bats are quiet there, but they hold the two nothing lead. And we’re back. Mitch Garver here. The catcher Mitch Garver. fouled off. He was late. [Music] And that’s him for a strike and misses inside.
Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Chase the fast ball up the ladder for strike three. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. And up next for Seattle, Miles Mastroy. And that one’s a little bit low. Ball one. One out. Base is empty. And another ball. [Applause] Pulls that one. Foul. in the air left field. Waters makes the grab and there’s two gone. Batting nut, the second base.
Cole Young up next for the Mariners. And that’s through there for a strike. [Music] And that skips in the dirt. That one close rule to ball. Two in one. Two balls, one strike. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Bounced to the right side. Kaggle Leone. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Mariners go down quietly there. They trail it here. Two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the second base, Jonathan. India.
India. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. fast ball for a strike.
Well, he looks fresh out there. Just needs to get a little more confidence and remember how good he’s been in the past. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and2. [Music] And that’s down and away. Let’s go. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And
it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch.
Now, the number two hitter, Bobby Wit Jr. And that drops in for a strike. liner and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and he’ll pull in there with a standup double. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. One out, runner at second. Mike El Garcia the next to hit. Caught looking. His first time up.
Right side. Young slings to first in time. Now batter the designated hitter Vinnie Pasquantino. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. A double and a run scored his first time up.
Seattle and a good fast to start him off. That’s strike one.
I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. That one misses and now it’s even one and one
with a runner at third. This is who they want at the plate. He’s so good at getting a run across in these situations. Whit at third with two away. gets the slider in there for a strike. BS that off to the left and will do it again. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little turning on the fast ball. Swings through and that’s a strike down. a double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Royals two and the Mariners nothing. Bottom of the inning stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford.
JP Ruffford just missed. [Applause] Ground ball left side. Zips it across. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. the center fielder number 44 Julio.
And now it’s Julio Rodriguez.
One for one with a single so far. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. No balls, two strikes. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another swing and a miss. Struck him out on a slider and there’s two gone.
Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, blowing away some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. Here’s a rocket out to left. And that is the third out of the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. On to inning number four. It’s the Royals two and the Mariners nothing. Back at T-Mobile Park, John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Salvador Perez. First pitch doesn’t find the zone.
Well, these Royals showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set them up to do more damage later in this game. One ball, two strike, two balls, two strikes. So Salvia is set down on strikes. Oh, that high forcing fast ball. It’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years. And what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well. The problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to jump by you. You expand your zone. You don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact. If you do, many times it’s a popup. Kag Leon batting for the second time and that’s strike one. up the middle on to first. Two quick outs here in the top of the fourth.
Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind it with another ground ball. Good execution.
Two down, base is empty. Drew Waters will hit next. His first at bat was a strike out swing and a ball lifted in the air. shallow right field and puts the squeeze on that one. And that is that back in Seattle, Randy Rosena.
Randy Rosena. Rosena in his fifth season, 30 years old now and he was born in Cuba. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one and a foul ball. He stays alive. And down on strikes he goes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. And now for Seattle, Dominic Canzone reached on an infield single his first time. Just missed. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. And that one pulled foul. Oh, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line.
Two straight One down, base is empty. Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. to the right side. India throws the first in time and the Mariners set down one, two, three. Nobody left for Seattle. They’re still down. It’s two zip. And we’re back ready now for the fifth inning. And here is John Ray on the mound. He had a little trouble back in the first, but it’s been a different story the rest of the way. really settled into this outing nicely and one and that’s a little bit high. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Not in time. have an infield knock to start the inning.
It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen. Man at first. And now Kyle Isel, he’s over one. check swing and he went that strike wall and one. Move to first. Ray dives back in safely. Ruer at first with no outs here. And it’s even up. And that’s in for a strike. Back to back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Pitch misses. Two balls, two strikes. Really good take, especially with two strikes in the dirt. Blocked him down. Got him. And he’s up eight strikeouts in this one. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever, but just the location with that velocity. It’s hard enough even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. Jonathan Indie at the plate. A strike out and a walk. And that’s in for a strike. One’s the count. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Ray at first. One gone. In there at the knees for a strike. So far, all we’ve seen in this bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Move to first. Ray back on a dive. stays alive. Got him looking. That’s his ninth strike out so far. Well, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Backto back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position, and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Whit stands in now and watches strike one. Just missed. One and one. back to the mound. It hit him. Safe at first. And now we’ll check on the right-hander. Hope he’s all right. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee.
Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue.
First and second, two outs. Mike El Garcia steps in for the Royals. And a foul ball. [Applause] comes up empty. That’s strike two. Double barreled action in the bullpen. Ryan Woo, the young right-hander up and throwing. Brash getting loose as well. Two outs, couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] Swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. Royals strand a pair. They’re up two nothing. [Applause] ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now Mitch Garber Garber Walka back to work. And that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. Well, these Mariners doing a great job. Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. Starter’s leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is. But so far he’s been really effective in this one. And that drops in for a strike.
You know, sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs. And that might be the case today. [Applause] misses off the inside. Two balls, two strikes. It’s the count. [Applause] Yeah, that’s too high.
Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. Good job to fight that one off. [Music] And a payoff pitch. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] Gets a piece there. will do it again. And a 3-2 out towards right center field is Bell sizing this one up. He’s got it. One away. Now batting the third baseman, Miles Mast.
Miles Mastro digs in now. Fly to left his first time. [Applause] Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Runner on at first with one gone. Now it’s the second baseman Cole Young. 0 for one so far. Off the mark there. Ball one. The Royals leading by two. Last half of inning number five. And that one upstairs [Applause] grounder might be two. Fires to second for one. Double play.
What a twin killing to end the inning. He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books. It’s the Royals two and the Mariners nothing. now pitching for.
So out of the bullpen for the Mariners, Ryan.
This guy’s a strikethrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season.
Now it’s the DH Vinnie Pasquentino.
Vinnie Pasquantino and takes low for ball one. Well, these Royals putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. Ran his pitch count up and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. Master Bony makes the grab. One away. And no, they haven’t broken through in a big way in the runs column, but with the way they’re grinding out at bats, it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming. And next up for the Royals, Salvador Perez, and first offering is fouled off. One down, base is empty. Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. [Applause] [Music] and down on strikes. Two gone now. Jack Kaggle Leone steps in for the Royals.
Bowl for two in this one. Come on. Late on that fast ball. Well, he threw that fast right by him. Gives him a little bit of confidence, but in the back of your mind, you got to think, is he trying to set me up for later in this at bat?
Next pitch is outside. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And that one got a piece of him.
He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch.
And to the plate for Kansas City, Drew Waters.
Waters on the ground right side. Young over to first and that will end the inning. So, no runs on no hits, no errors, and one left on base. Top of the order, two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Royals two and the Mariners nothing. Bottom of the six. Here’s the Mariners leadoff man, JP Crawford. [Applause] Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Lucas Air getting loose out there. Clark warming up as well. [Applause] J. [Applause] Strike two. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there
to the right side. India fires over to first and that’s one out as they get the lead off hitter of the centerielderielder number 44 Julio Rodriguez
and a batter now Julio Rodriguez one for two rips that one center field makes the grab. Two down. Now batting the designated hitter,
Cal Raleigh. Up next for the Mariners.
He’s one of the best players in the game. And that’s the inside edge. And it’s one and0. Two outs. Hard hit left side. Whit over to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. Mariners go down quietly there. They trail things here. Two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. So up now for Kansas City, John Rae. Woo. A 6’2 righty 25 years old and he was a sixth round draft pick in 2021. Line drive. Come on. That at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it. You hit the ball hard, but it doesn’t always work out in your favor. Sometimes a defender is there to make a play.
And next up for the Royals, Kyle Isel. [Applause] First pitch misses.
That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. And there’s a foul ball. Base is empty. One away here in the top half of inning number seven. Next pitch is outside. Right through there for a strike. line drive and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second and he’s in with a stand up double. Everything came together for him. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the Royals, Jonathan India. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’s a fair ball coming home. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and they take a threerun lead. Bobby Rich Jr. One gone runner at first. And now the shorts stop Bobby Whit Jr. And that’s a strike. [Applause] Next offering pop foul off to the right out of play. India the runner at first with one gone to the inning. [Applause] Out to short Crawford offbalance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there.
Now batting.
Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner.
And to the plate for Kansas City, Mikel Garcia struck out on just three pitches last time
and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] swing and a line drive and a base hit up the middle. Just kind of slice that one into center.
Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. [Applause] That’s to whips it across. That ends the inning. and they limit the damage, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now three nothing. Major League Baseball is on the show. Bottom of the seventh. Now it’s the cleanup hitter for the Mariners. Randy Rosarena Rosarena. And a pitch. And that one fouled off. Clips the corner and that is strike two. Fights it off. You’ll see another good eye right there. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Next offering is in the dirt. And there’s the ball. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he’s starting to look a little gassed to me. And we’ll see if they go to the bullpen spot or not.
And up next for Seattle, Dominic Panzone. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. That one finds the zone and the count one and one. Nobody out. Runner at first. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] Pitch is in the dirt and that’s ball two. Well, just about to hit that century mark. 100 pitches for this game. That one misses.
And now it’s filled up. Three and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Music] Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. Feed to second. That’s one. And they get him easily at first. It’s a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish.
Donovan SO. And stepping in for the Mariners, Donovan Solano. There’s the strike.
I really like how he’s been attacking hitters early in at bats. He’s thrown strikes on the first pitch to over 70% of the guys he’s faced in this one and one that one down the line and it goes just fouled. The Royals leading by three here in the bottom of the seventh foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Got it. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Nobody left for Seattle. They trail in this one three nothing. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Game spire. Well, he’s got electric stuff coming out of the pin. His strikeout rate, though, is through the roof so far this season. [Applause] Salvador Perez now at the plate.
Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Makes the catch for the out. One up, one down. One pitch, one out.
The first base, Jack Kaggle Leone.
Jack Kaggle Leone steps in for the Royals. And a swing and a miss. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Edward Bazardo, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Brash, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Let’s go. That’s off the inside corner and the count is one and one. Swings and misses and one down below the zone. That missed by a lot. Two and two [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Here we go.
One down. Base is empty. Swings and misses. Now two away.
He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He’s out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout.
Next to hit, Drew Waters.
0 for three in this one. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike [Music] up the middle and that one handled. No play. That’s an infield single
with two outs. You just want to find a way to keep the line moving for the next guy. So an infield single right there does the job. Nicely done. just putting it in play and getting down to first to keep this inning alive. You never know what might come next as a result.
Now a chance for John Ra. There’s the strike. [Applause] Two outs. line drive and that’s a base hit. Lead runner to second with two gone. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play but it’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. First and second, two outs. Isbel getting ready to hit. One for three. And the first pitch misses for ball one. tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Spire. He’s kind of a prototypical bullpen arm in today’s game. Electric stuff that results in a ton of strikeouts in a tough spot like this. That is a big time benefit. Two on, two outs. That one fouled off. Now,
as a hitter, when a guy like this comes into the game, you feel like he’s standing on top of you and it’s just attack mode coming right at you expecting. Meanwhile, this pitch gets away. Garver down to first in time. Nicely done. They get out of the jam. So, they strand a pair. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Lucas. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. And here’s the catcher Mariners. The catcher M Garber Seattle right through there for a strike. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Carlos Estz, the closer, is getting ready and perhaps looking at a long save opportunity here. Inside and the count even one and one. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch.
Fouled off down the right side. Let’s go. Come on. The one two and a foul ball. He stays alive. Bows it back with two strikes and a one two. That one missed two count and a swing and a miss. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an impact like that one.
You see it more commonly in the sport these days, but man, a triple-digit fastball blown right by someone is still pretty awesome to witness. I mean, you got to be geared up and ready to swing it when a guy like this comes out of the bullpen because that fast ball, it eats. And if you’re not ready, you’re going to be walking back to the dugout. Now, it’s going to be Miles Mastroy.
01’s the count. That one way outside. One and one. And a foul ball. Let’s go Mariners. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. The Mariners trailing by three here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. swings through that one. It’s a strike out.
Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of Ravers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. And it’s fouled away. 101 on the gun swing. And
pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful. Not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. Two down on and that one is inside. Ah,
look out. That ball got
that fast ball drilled him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him.
JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. Three ground outs already. He’s 0 for three. Here’s a runcoring opportunity. You definitely got to push something across because it’s not going to get any easier. You get to the ninth, you got a lock down closer ready to come in
way outside. And that’s ball one. Foul ball. Young leads off first with two down to the inning. Fast ball for a strike. That’s inside the plate. Ball two. Swing and a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Waters moving under this one. Tries to make the play but it’s fouled. [Music] [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. You got this. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. One left for Seattle. They trail it here. Three nothing. Now pitching forward.
We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Matt Brash.
And one thing on him,
he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. So back to the top of the order. So up now for Kansas City. Jonathan, India. India. [Applause] In for a strike and it’s 0 and one.
Oh, and one. [Applause] Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. And the next pitch is way outside.
02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Fights that one away. Still one and two. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When she elevates, guys aren’t touched. Bows it off. Still one and two. keeps the bat going with a foul ball. [Applause] Misses. It’s a strike down.
Well, one of the things that hitters will do is they’ll look for that red dot on the baseball is coming in to let them know what the pitch is. And if they see the red dot, it’s typically a slider. But when a guy’s got a really tight one with high spin rates, very difficult to determine. And that’s probably why we saw a swing and miss right there. Just a nasty pitch. Bobby Wit Jr. will hit next. He’s turned into one of the best short stops in the game. That one the other way. And a base hit. Now batting third baseman Mikel Garcia. One down. Here’s the third baseman, Mikel Garcia. [Applause] And a popup right side foul territory and there’s two away. [Applause] The batter number nine, designated hitter, Vinnie Pas.
And next is the designated hitter, Vinnie Pasquantino. [Applause] Up and in. One and0. Action in the pen down there. Edward Bazardo up and throwing. [Applause] Next pitch misses and it’s 2 and 0. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count.
Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. That one missing inside.
Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score.
Checks over to first. Back safely. [Applause] Caught him looking for the one hit, one left. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Royals three and the Mariners nothing. [Applause] Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Carlos Estz.
And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. And now for Seattle, Julio Rodriguez, the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez, in for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off. [Applause] swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt in time and the drop third strike leads to the first out.
Oh, that right there is what you want to see out of your closer. Come in and close the door, cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. [Applause] Fouled off left side. The Royals trying to close out a three-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Foul ball there. [Applause] And they’ll do it again. Man, he’d like to have that pitch back. [Applause] The O2 sets him down looking down to the last out for the Mariners. So, the bullpen doing a nice job backing up the effort from their starter.
Yeah, we’ve seen some pretty excellent pitching out of this staff so far. I mean, they’ve come in ready to do their job and get outs. They’ve been pretty tough to get to in this one. So, last chance for the Mariners. Randy Rosena up next for the Mariners. Basketball is outside. [Applause] Two outs. They say it went one ball, one strike. [Applause] And now two and one. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. [Applause] That’s out. Two down, nobody on here. The last half of inning number nine. There’s the swing and a miss. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended,
tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. One strike away. That one to first. A sliding stop. And what a play. Ball game. This is just a nice win. Three nothing ball game. and you feel comfortable about the three runs that you scored, but you also know that if you’re not careful, a bloop, a base hit, and a home run ties everything off. But it was great pitching, timely hitting really made the difference. A shut out in this one, three nothing. Our final score for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
