MLB LIVE🔴 San Francisco Giants vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 4, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. Fourth of July baseball coming at you. It’s the San Francisco Giants going up against the Athletics. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. All right, just about ready for baseball. And on the hill today, Mitch Spence. Chris, what are you looking for from him?
Well, no doubt about it. He’s gonna have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble. Trust that his stuff can have late life in miss barrels of bats.
Okay, all set to go. Stepping in, Mike Yremsky. Little chopper rolls. Foul. struck him out looking. Willie Adam stands in and that one’s a little bit low and it’s one and0. One out. Base is empty. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And the countdown now two and nothing. Let’s go. Ball. And there’s the automatic inside ball four. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Man aboard. And here is De’s That one ripped but foul. Adamus leads off first with one away. And that’s outside. Going to count one and two. That one just misses.
Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball three. Man at first, one away. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. And now it’s Wilmer Flores. There’s the strike. No ball. One strike. Ground ball left side and foul ball. That’s too low. Now one and two. Fights it off. He’ll see another.
That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was.
And that’s downed away. Battling here as he fouls it away. Comes the two- two. And they’ll do it again. Francisco and that one hammered. Going back makes the catch on the edge of the track. One left for San Francisco. And now the Athletics offense gets its first shot here. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi, the right-hander with the good curve ball, Landon Root. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him.
Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Up and in. And the count is two and0. And another ball. [Applause] That one finds the zone and it’s three and one. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two.
Full count. [Music] swings through it and that’s a strike out. I think he might have gotten away with one right there. That was a very hitable pitch right over the heart of the plate and I know that batter is kicking himself right now. Would like to get that pitch again. Just pulled the string on it and the deception gets him to K. Tyler Soderstroke in the box here lets that one go for a ball and a pitch. That one missed. Tool count. Great hitter at the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. You miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. [Music] Fouls one off. Two and two. swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt. Gets to it onto first and there’s two gone following the strike out.
He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Swanging a ball lined out towards center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that. A’s go quickly and quietly there. We played an inning. No score. And we’re back. Second inning set to go. And digging in for San Francisco, Jung Hu Lee. And there’s the strike. Here’s some fun facts about Jung Hu Lee. You look at the fact that he wears number 51. Not a shocker, but his favorite player growing up, Ichiro Suzuki. And that clips the inside corner. One of the other aspects of Jung Lee’s bio. He was actually drafted as a shortstop, now an outfielder, but he grew up right-handed and his dad was the one that made him switch hit. Kurts takes it to the bag. One out in the second. And up next for the Giants, Luis Moss. Mentioned Lee’s dad, Jung Bum Lee. He was a legend over in both the KBO and in Japan. These two are the only fatherson combo to have played in the World Baseball Classic. That’s kind of cool. Fouled off left side. No score here in the second. Curts drifts towards it, makes the grab, and there’s two gone. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well, and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Two out. Space is empty. Patrick Bailey the next to hit. First pitch swinging. Bailey the switch hitting catcher hitting seventh in today’s lineup. A former first round pick in 2020. That’s down and in. Next offering is in for a strike.
Two out. Space is empty. Up and in. And the count is two and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Good job to fight that one off. Lifted in the air down the left side. Makes the grab on the run. And that is that. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Nick Curts. You can do this. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. That one fouled off. That missed by a lot. And a count. Two and one. That catches the corner. Next pitch is outside. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. hit hard on the ground to short in time to Debor and quickly one away in the second. Max Maxy up next for the A’s. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. just missed.
Time to look at our umpiring crew in this one. Kenny Jansen behind the plate.
Yeah, and expect a little inconsistency on the corners. He doesn’t make any wild calls, but he does give and take there a little bit. So, he doesn’t have the easiest strike zone to figure out, especially as the game goes on when you’re expecting it to become more consistent. Back to back breaking pitches away, you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. One down. Base is empty. Inside full count. Three and two. Base knock center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. And now the catcher comes up to hit. Austin wins. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. on the corner at the knees for a strike. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper.
Root checks over to first and he’s back.
Muny at first. One gone. Next pitch inside. One and one. And there’s one [Music] comes up empty. That’s strike two.
Two balls, two strikes. on the ground to third and that’s a fair ball. They get it in quickly. So first and second now one out.
Back to back singles. There’s something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield that’s just so satisfying as a hitter. It’s just fun turning on the pitch like he did right there. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Here’s Luis Oas. First pitch misses.
He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Line and a base hit into right. runner around third now. A long throw home. It’s off the mark and he scores and it’s one- nothing. Big swing of the bat right there to give him the lead. That was clutch. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly.
And stepping in the rookie left fielder Swing and a liner foul off to the right. Traffic on the bases with one already in at bottom half of inning number two on the ground left side. Six four three but he beats it. Good hustle and the inning continues. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner
at the plate. Max Schuman ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. In comes a runner from third. It’s an RBI single and they take a two-run lead.
Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Back to the top of the lineup now. A chance for Denzel Clark. Let off the game with a strikeout. That misses the zone. One and0 [Music] and that’s downed away.
Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two aboard, two outs. [Music] They had a foul Oh, [Music] that one lifted to left. Machos makes the grab on the run. So, it’s two runs on four hits, no errors, and a couple left on. We play two full. It’s the A’s two and the Giants nothing. On to the third inning. Now it’s going to be Tyler Fitzgerald.
Tyler Fitzgerald Spence back to work. That one finds a corner. It’s 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. out to short. No throw. He’s safe at first.
It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen.
And now Brett Wisley. That one finds the corner. That’s strike one. pulls that one foul. The O2 stays alive. Rudder at first with no outs here. That one almost got him. Two two
in the dirt. Little bit low.
So here we go. base runner at first, could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate.
And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes, and he’s registered three Ks in this one.
Back to the leadoff spot in the Giants lineup. Here comes Mike Stressky to the plate. His first at bat was a strikeout. Spence checks the runner. The throw is wild and it gets away. First offering runner goes strike in there and that’s a stolen base. Not even close. [Music] and he’ll one up the middle. It’s through for a hit. Fitzgerald coming home. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single and they trail by one. Man at first with one gone. Willie Adamus will hit next. He reached out to walk his first time. Right through there for a strike. 01. The shorts stop takes a ball.
Tying run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. glove side, but it gets through. Manages to throw to third and the throw’s offline. Safe at third. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way. And it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done.
Now it’s Devers at the plate.
Just missed. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Two on, one out. This one chopped on the ground, but foul. And that one fouled off on the ground right side and it’s just fouled. That was close. Swinging a ball line to center and that’s down. A base hit in to score from third and it’s an RBI single. We are tied at two. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole. I believe very good at bat with two strikes.
Here’s a cleanup hitter for the Giants, Wilmer Flores. in the dirt but kept close. Tag safe
and a wild pitch and both runners are in scoring position.
Got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch. They’ve got two runners in scoring position. Good time for the hitter to lock in. Put the ball in play hard somewhere. And that’s in there at the knees. Action in the pen down there. Number 50 preparing to come on if needed. That misses the zone. And that’s ball two.
Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. Adamus on third. Divers at second with one away. Got him.
Huge strike out there. Well, that was such a great opportunity to grab the lead. You had the infield back. All you’ve got to do is just put the ball in play on the ground and you drive across a run. That’s a frustrating outcome for the hitter. Now, still have a chance, but it’s probably going to take a clutch hit with two outs. Lee stands in now. Looks at that one inside. One ball, one strike. There’s the strike. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. That’s a little bit low.
Luis Moss in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That one back up the middle and it gets through. One runs in. A second scores as well and it’s 42. That’s all he needed. Just a simple base hit and he drives in two in a huge spot. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground balls. So a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Mitch Spence out of the game and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s number 50. This is his third time out this year. And up next for San Francisco, Luis Mtos popped out and foul ground first time through. Edge of the zone for a strike and it’s 0 and one. And that one missing low. That’s outside and it’s two and one. Late on that fast ball. Threw that fast right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder.
And that one is inside.
3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. They get four runs on five hits. No errors and leave one. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Giants four and the A’s two. set for the bottom of the third. Now the number two hitter Tyler Sodroer check swing and he went and that is strike one. Oh, one strike. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Swing and a ball popped up. Adamus and there’s one down pass for the A rightielder. Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker. He’s 0 for one. And that’s downstairs and outside.
One ball, no strikes. That one missed. Chopped to the left side. Flores tosses to first.
He’s out. And two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Grounded out to short in his first trip. And ball one. Swanging a miss as he was out front that time. Lace to right center base hit. So a two out knock. Keeps the inning alive. Maxy up next for the A’s. One for one with a single so far. Check swing. No appeal. And that’s ball one. Curts the runner at first with two gone. [Applause] That misses. Now 2 and 0 and a foul ball. Ball three.
A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. [Music] So now two on and two outs.
Not what he wanted to do there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit. Austin wins now at the plate. Singleton scored his first time. Hit in the air out to center field. Lee moving under it. He’s got it and the inning is over. A strand a couple. They trail it here. Four to2. Out of the fourth. Now it’s the Giants catcher Patrick
Bailey. First pitch and he just misses.
Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. And that’s a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Up next for the Giants, the designated Dom Smith stands in. Came into the game on defense. So his first trip to the plate here. Runner on the move. Swing and a miss. The throw tag and he’s out. Not a fast runner on the base path. So this kind of looks like it was a hit and run call from the dugout. Got to make contact some way or somehow because that guy’s not going to be able to steal second base and be safe. One down. Base is empty. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That one the other way. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there are two down. Wisely.
Two down. Base is empty. And digging in for San Francisco. Brett Wisley. He was a strikeout victim his first time. to the right side. A sliding stop. Nicely done for the out.
Giants go down quietly, but they still lead this one four-2. And we’re back. And now the DH Luis Rias. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake.
That one’s in there. One.
You know, these A’s showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. ripped on the ground to second in time to deers. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth.
Left fielder Thomas. Now the left fielder 0 for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. There’s the strike. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Out towards right center field. Yensky on the move. Snags it on the run. Two away.
Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Schuman the next to hit takes ball one two. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Two down. Nobody on. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. This looks like extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. In safely, it’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So, the batting order turns over and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Denzel Clark. And the first pitch misses for ball one. on the ground to first and that chance handled. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The A’s strand one still down by a count of four to two. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready now for the fifth inning. Mike Estrenky up here and that one fouled off. All these Giants putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. In the air out towards right center. Clark on his way over. Makes the grab. One away. Will Thomas the next Giant to hit a walk and he’s also singled. Adamus 29 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. One down, base is empty. That one in there across the letters. fouls it back with two strikes. That one not close. And it’s two and two. And there’s a ball. Now he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Payoff pitch popped up left side. Muny, he’s got it. There’s two aways now. Come on. And first offering is fouled off. Two outs. Catch his swing. Appeal to third and he went around. Rule the swing. Next pitch is downstairs. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And Devers hits that one. Clark has this one sized up. Makes the catch and that’ll do it. ready to go for the last half of the inning. And the batter now Tyler Soderstrom right down to shoot. It’s 0 and one. Action in the San Francisco bullpen. Mason Black up and loosening in the pen. Bird song also getting ready and misses inside. One tap foul at the plate. pitch misses inside and it’s two and two. Oh,
he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here. Two, two, he’s already seen the curveball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. Got him. That K is his third of the game.
Well, I’m not really sure why he let that one go by. I mean, out of the hand, it had a lot of the strike zone. Sure. It had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate, but with two strikes, you got to be ready to swing it there and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands. Brooker the next to hit takes outside. The Athletics trailing by two. Last half of inning number five. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. One ball, one strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away in time to deleth inning moving along. Two quick outs. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. One for two in there at the knees and it’s 0 and one. They say it went no ball. Two strikes and that’s in the dirt. Good eye on that spot. Really good take especially with two strikes outside with a breaking ball. swing and a miss and he struck him out. And it’s a one, two, three inning. And we’re back. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Now here is Wilmer Flores. And the first offering is not close. That’s in there. That’s to third. Now one gone in the top of the sixth. Now batting the center. And up next for the Giants, Jung Huli. First pitch doesn’t find a zone. Hammered down the right side, but foul. line drive base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting left fielder Luis Moss.
Luis Moss the next Giant to hit. Bowl for two in this one. just missed. Lee the runner at first with one gone in the inning and another ball. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. That one at 95 missed up top and it’s 3 and 0. [Music] And ball forward, two aboard. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. And he makes the catch. And there’s two away. Now it’s Dominic Smith. He’s 0 for one. Just missed. [Music] That misses
two and0.
Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. That one misses. Three balls, no strikes. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball.
First and second, two down and we’re the top half of the sixth. chases the fast up the ladder. Struck him out. No runs, a hit, two left. We go to the bottom half of inning number six and the 567 slots do up. It’s the Giants four and the A’s two. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Mason Black. and he comes on here for the first time this season and I’m sure there’s some nerves involved in that. So, we’ll see how he settles in. And now the shorts stop Maxy. Stop Max. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Spencer Bivvens, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Miller getting cranked up as well. The one on the ground right side. Wisely slings to first. One up, one down.
Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just bores in on the hands. Here’s the catcher. Austin wins. Inside just missed and that’s in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count.
Swing and a miss. And the count one and two.
Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it.
Swing and a ball hit out towards left center field. That one gets down for a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. digging in Luis Rias.
Luis Ras.
Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important getting back into this ball game. Fast for a strike. [Applause] and fouled off. Gets a piece and stays alive. Here’s the O2. That one’s upstairs. Ball one with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the six. That one is absolutely bel. And it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. The throw to second is offline.
He went up there and got it with two strikes. I’m not going to leave this in the umpire’s hands. I’m going to be aggressive. It was in a location where he could get those arms extended that he loves to do. So, nice job right there coming back in that bat. So, two would score in position with one out. Here’s the left fielder. That’s inside. Ball one. One down, runners at second and third. Right through there for a strike. Next pitch misses and it’s two and one. He’s got a base open. So the pressure to come in and really attack this hitter not as great as it would be if the bags were sacked.
Up and in. And that’s ball three. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. And that’ll load the bases. He knew he had a little rhythm room with the open base, but now that disappears. Mistake to this next batter and this inning might really break open.
So bases loaded with one away. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. on the ground to the left down the line and it’s fouled. That catches the outside corner and it’s nothing in two. But I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Ball wins the runner at third. Urias over at first with one away and it skips into third. spoils that one and it remains two and two on the ground. Two ball Flores over to second. Double play as they get out of another jam and the inning ends. just trying to sneak one through with the bases loaded, but an excellent job by the defense to turn that one and get out of this jam. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, JP Sears. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. Well, I never liked when opposing teams did that to me.
So, digging in, Brett Wisley. Here he is in a spot where he makes most of his money against left-handed pitching. Just off the inside edge. That one misses ball two. Bun attempt popped up. Soda racing over to make the catch. Well, he gave the bun a shot there, but not able to execute. Yeah, I think he rushed it a little bit. And when guys rush, can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player. Yensky at the plate now. That’s ball one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Justin Sterner getting ready to go. Lopez the lefty warming up as well. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. And he hits a ground ball right side and that’s just foul. One down. Base is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up.
Ground ball up the middle onto first and two away to start the seven. Now batting short, Willie Adam.
Willie Adamus, the next Giant to hit. Let’s go green, baby. Let’s go. Swing and a ground ball. Muny on the run. Throw to first.
Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going. Did a nice job getting there. Good throw, but very difficult to get anybody on that one as far as you had to go and throw,
you know. Yeah, no question. Two outs, runner at first. Rafael Des getting ready to hit. Just missed.
Too high. Little bit low. Right through there for a strike on the ground to first dives but it kicks off his glove. Gets to first ahead of the runner and they get it out of the play. So, one hit is all they get midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Giants four and the A’s two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Spencer Bivvens. Should be a good first matchup for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Clark stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. And that one is downstairs. One ball, one strike. That one is upstairs. Two balls, one strike. On the ground to third. Sends it across to first and one away in the bottom of the seventh. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team.
Here’s the third baseman, Tyler Soderstrom. 0 for three in this one. Swinging a foul straight back.
The A’s down by a pair here in the bottom of the seventh. Yeah, that’s fouled off. This is the type of hitter his club wants at the plate, especially playing from behind. He’s hoping to start a rally right here. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. He’s got it and there’s two away. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker. That’s in there. Strike one. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Justin Sterner. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now the third baseman, Wilmer Flores, 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. just missed Sterner in his rookie season. He features a four seam fast, a curb, a slider, and he works in a sinker in the air out towards left center. Brings it in. And there’s one down. Now batting center. Now the batter now Jung Hu Lee. He swings and fouls one off. One down. Base is empty. Now one and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Shawn Nukem appears to be getting loose. That’s outside and a count. Two on one and downstairs. Eddie Watson got
the ball. Take your base. Looked like a questionable call in that spot. He even seemed a little surprised it went his way at the plate, but as a hitter, you’ll take that all day.
So, a man aboard now, the left fielder, Luis Mtos. top of the zone for a strike going [Music] and a popup right side foul territory and that’s a foul ball. Lee stands at first with one out. Pitch in the dirt now. One and two. Two two. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another cut on and miss. Struck him out. That’s out number two. Patrick Bailey the next to hit. One for three. This guy one of the best defensive catchers going. You talk about framing the ability to block, catch, and throw. He is at the top of the game. Squirts away a little bit. on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, the Giants leave one as they can’t add to their 4-2 lead. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. Bivons back to work. Bottom of the zone and a called strike. Activity in the bullpen. Camo Dval getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. to go home. And a liner out into right center for a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer, and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Here’s the shorts stop at the play. Maxy swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Music] Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did.
No balls. Two strikes
with the tying run at the plate here. The bottom half of the eighth inning with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Tying run at the plate and that’s a strike out looking. That was pretty nasty. Next to hit, Austin wins. And the first pitch misses for ball one. lay off that pitch down. Little chopper rolls foul. [Music] The tying run at the plate. Hit on the ground to the right side. Throws to second for one. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. One hit in the inning, but no one left. Through eight full hits, it’s the Giants four and the A’s two. So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Jacob Lopez.
Well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. Dominic Smith digs in now. Down and away for ball one. And that’s outside. 20. Next offering upstairs. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle towards first. Kurts a flip to the pitcher covering and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. And up next for San Francisco, Brett Wisley. There’s the strike. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. Base is empty, one away here in the top of the ninth. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Just off the outside part of the plate. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. That one outside now two and two.
Two balls, two strikes. got him swinging for the strike out. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Bergie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. And now Mike Estreky. And that’s way high. Ball one. Top of the zone for a called strike. Just off the outside edge. Two balls in a strike. Fall off foul. Fast ball and he gets out of the way. Full count. Got him swinging. Offense held in check there. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Giants four and the A’s two. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Camo Dval.
Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan, more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. So, now the DH spot, Luis Rias, Luis. And that one upstairs, ball one. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still able to fire over and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay.
Couple of pitches and a quick out. Here’s the left fielder. And that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one.
Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. set down on strikes.
The A’s down to their final out. Max Schuman now at the plate. First pitch misses. 10. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 981. Two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth. Oh, he never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. And that misses. They’re now three and one. Pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle. He’s got to find the strike zone. 3-1 now. The rightander gives up the two out walk and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate.
They’re not ready to go home quite yet. So up next, Denzel Clark 0 for four. Two ground outs, a fly out, and a strikeout. Outside low and that is ball one. in for a strike. Good slider. [Music] That one outside now. Two balls in a strike. They’re down to their final strike. Two two. The Athletics down to their final strike. Ground ball and this should do it. And that is the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch.
And your final 42 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us.
