Orioles vs. Braves Game Recap (7/4/25) | MLB Highlights | Baltimore Orioles
Brains and Orioles game one. Happy 4th of July everybody. Boy, if you’re not feeling festive now, I don’t know what to tell you. We haven’t even thrown a pitch yet at Sparklers. We had a guy flying in parachuting. We had the Barberhop Quartet. Now Spencer Strider takes the mound to start this series here on July 4th against the Baltimore Orioles. Spencer Strider has been really good. Things have bounced back in a really big way. You mentioned it. We’ve seen him throwing the ball well. The fast ball in particular has looked really strong here lately.
Jackson Holiday still has that baby face. 21 years old. Second big league season.
Oh, two to Holiday and a ground ball out to first. On the other end is Olsen. Underand toss to Strider. And a 3-1 put out for the first out here in the top of the first inning. Here’s Jordan Westber. Backup breaking ball has bounced slowly to Austin Riley and he will not get it there in time. Westberg legs out an infield single for the game’s first hit. No score. Top of the first hitting. Here’s Gunnar Henderson.
And Henderson smacks this ball the other way. That’s a fair ball and it kicks off the low sidewall here in front of ProFar. Westber will be held late at third by Buck Britain. And that’s going to put runners at second and third as they hold Westber. And now the Orioles with a chance to get the lead here in the first. This is Ryan O’Harn who will be the starting DH in the All-Star game. again the 3-2 and he struck him out that time. Use a slider. Oh, Hearn saw a ton of sliders and that one Spencer put that coin right in the slot.
So two on, two out. Here’s Raone Lauriano.
Striders 3-2 comebacker knocked down by Spencer between the legs. Harry Houdini out there goes to the bag, gets the out. What a play. Fantastic. We go to the bottom of the first inning. No score. Charlie Morton back on the mound here at Truis Park. But wearing the wrong uniform are the Baltimore Orioles. Of course, drafted by the Braves, brief debut with Atlanta 2008, goes away, comes back, part of the World Series title team, but this off season going to Baltimore. And now back here to face the Atlanta Braves.
Ronald Akuna Jr. who has been absolutely on fire this year. And Aunia grounds a breaking ball to second. Nicely picked by Jackson for the first out. Well, it’s a Braves game, which means Matt Olsen is in there. And Olsson swings through a perfectly painted fast ball on the edge for strike three.
High velocity, lot of spin to it. And I mean located perfectly up and away. And now here’s Austin Riley. The 3-2 pin.
Payoff pitch is line to right field in between. Lauraniano looked a little indecisive. Takes it on the bounce and Riley has a single
and it’s going to send Jurgson Proofar up to the plate. A one-two pitch. Swing and a miss. Morton put him away a hook. So Charlie Morton gets two strikeouts. Orioles nothing, Atlanta nothing.
Ozuna leading off the bottom of the second with a walk.
Braves will pick up a lead off base runner via free ticket. That pitch nicked Drake Baldwin. Charlie’s got himself in a bind here early in the second inning. First and second, nobody out. He needs that ground ball and quite capable of doing that. Here is Aussie Alb. The switch inning second base. 3-2 Had a backup breaking ball. Gets a swing and a miss for strikeout number three. A leadoff walk then a hit batter. But since then, a strike out and a pop out is in the hands of Nick Allen.
The O2 check swing and a curve. Did he go? And yes, he did, says Doug Ed to Charlie Morton. And so he gets two strikeouts in this inning. We go to the third here at Truis Park. So Spencer Strider 29 pitches in the first inning. He’s retired the last five hitters on just 12. Two away for Jordan Westburn. Westburn puts a fast ball in the air the other way. That ball is ticketed for the chop house. Welcome back, Westy. In opposite field, smoke job and Jordan Westber takes Spencer Strider deep. His first game back in the lineup in a week and he puts the Orioles on the board first. Well, happy fourth of July.
A West homer does make it one to nothing.
Auno for one with a ground out to second base. Charlie Morton has been through the Braves order one time. He’s allowed one single. He’s hit a batter, walked one, has four strikeouts. And Charlie still doing it at a high level. It’s going to be a long throw. Auna beats it out.
Riley had a good trip to the plate back in the first inning. It ended with a single. Akuna at first. One down. That is a fair ball. Akuna digs for third. He’ll pull in there and it’s a double for Austin Riley here in the third inning. And it just spun and backed up and asked to be hit and Austin Riley said, “Yeah, no problem. I’ll take care of it.” as he smokes it down the left field line. And now the Braves need a clutch two out base hit to at least tie the game. Riley at second. Ozuna at the plate. And he goes with a fast ball here. A little too center cut, but Ozuna flies out to the warning track and right. So Morton escapes. Another pickle and he is through three scoreless. One- nothing Baltimore now in the fifth. There’s a liner by Tyler O’Neal in the left. that is going to get down for a single in front of Profo. O’Neal turns first base and Tyler O’Neal his first hit with the Orioles since May. And now you get Cedric Mullins up to the plate. Two and two for Cedric Mullins. That breaking ball’s in the middle of the zone. And that ball’s going to be in the middle of the chop house. Powered out to right field by Cedric Mullins for the Orioles second home run tonight. It’s three nothing. That ball was just spinning right in the heart of the plate and it was screaming hit me the entire time and boy did Cedric certainly turn that one around
and it’s three nothing. Morton a shut out through five innings of work. Braves come to bat in the home half of the six down three nothing. Jerickson Profar will lead off for the Braves. The 01 swung on. Looper out behind first. That’s going to get down. Fair ball. Base hit and a good start to the sixth inning.
So one away and the batter will be Drake Baldwin. That ball is deep to right. Kiss it goodbye. There’s some fireworks on the fourth from Drake Baldwin.
Home run Drake Baldwin. We got a one-run game. That was on Morton’s 94th pitch. And Baldwin smashed it. Braves are on the board. It’s three to two. Did that hit Azie? It did. And remember, he fouled the ball off that same left foot earlier and he’s in some pain right now. See where it caught Aussie almost in that same exact spot. Might have bounced and hit him. It doesn’t matter. And that’s going to end Charlie Morton’s night. Was outstanding through five. Five at a third, two runs. Andrew Kitridge will take over for him.
On for the 19th time this season, one win, one loss, and a 450 ERA. Last time he worked was two days ago at Texas working one scoreless frame.
Michael Harris the second.
First pitch from Andrew Kitridge. Sharply at ground ball right to Henderson short. He steps on second to for one onto first. Make that two a double play. And on one pitch, Kitred gets the double play and the Orioles are out of the six.
Bottom of the ninth, here we come. Drake will lead it off. Felix Bautista making his 31st appearance of the year. Looking for save number 17. Solid ERA, 2.73. Look at the opponent’s batting average just 143. Crowd trying to get behind Baldwin. One, two, and a couple of bounces unfortunately right at O’Harn for the first out. One away now. Azie. Baltimore this year 36 and0 when leading after eight innings. Hit a mile into the air. Bautista vacates and the shorts stop. Henderson has it. The bottom of the ninth and Michael Harris strolls to the plate.
Here’s a 2-1. That was low. Grounded to third. Jordan Westber on a three for three night. throws on Harris to end the game. The Orio bullpen perfect through three and two/3. Kridge, Baker, and Bantista close the win from Charlie Morton. Westber and Mullen’s homer and the Orioles start this Fourth of July weekend with a bang.
The Orioles hang on for a 32 victory over the Atlanta Braves. [Music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music]
