Top MLB Plays of 7/4/25 (Randy Arozarena tumbles, Colson Montgomery lays out, and MORE)!
And sure enough, there they go. They take off. Jeffers to third base. The catch, the tag, and he’s out. So Jeffers a seed up the line to Lewis. Caught it. Tag on Kim and out number two. Here’s Sugi at the plate. He hits a ground ball off of Birdie. Now he’ll flip to third base and he’s out.
Now that’s one thing about having an infielder pitch. He can play the position. Certainly.
Birdie, great awareness. flips with his free hand. But that’s good baseball right there because Birdie did not have a play at first base. First pitch tapper. Runner breaks from third. Throw goes to second. Dave La Cruz fire home tag play. He is out. Double play. The delayed dart to the dish by Sosa. He thought he had the Reds in a timing play and they cut him down. Two-2 into center field. Julio coming in. And Julio makes a catch. Meanwhile, Gonzalez on his way back. Solanado drops the tag. Double play.
How about that for an end of the inning and an end for Brian Woo today. Crown ball towards the middle. Alt will get to the bag with the glove ahead of Andy Pahz. Quite a move by Jose getting out number two in the inning.
Yeah, it would have been a tough play throwing back across his body, but his momentum taking him towards second base. just dive out there, tag the bag, and make the play. It was a good play.
3-1, and that is smacked out to center field. Evan Carter ranging back in. He’ll make the catch just in front of that wall in center field. Turns this way now. Turns the other way. Finds the ball. Makes a really nice play. And the 3-2. This one lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Monty’s going back and he’ll be met by Soder Stra who dives to the ground and makes the catch. Three up, three down. And a nice start for the A’s defense. Three and two. Guided over second into right. Perez on the approach. He’s ready to throw. It comes to the plate and it is an out. Wel Perez slices down Naylor. A one hot strike from Wel Perez.
He threw him out not with his arm. He closed the gap, closed the distance down on that ball from where it fell in front of him very quickly and threw a strike to Dylan Dingler at home plate. Line to third. Great pick by Marte on a bounce. The spin and he retires. Bow. Boy, what a great play by Noel Marte. It’s kind of a do or die. You stab at it, you hope you get it. He did. He didn’t overreact. Makes a perfect throw to first. Well, that is a nice one. Verling in left, turns over the right side, leaps and velling going to the ground, hangs on to the ball. Beautiful effort from Matt Verling.
Boy, that’s just an athletic play right there and just has to make a nice over the shoulder running catch.
O2 chopper hits softly. Going to be a tough play. Bender fields it, throws it to first. Got him. Wo! What a play. That’s a gold glove play by Anthony Bender. That’s one of the better plays you’ll ever see from a pitcher. [Applause] Mangum lays out and makes the catch to start the fourth.
Well, that ball sharply struck and had a lot of action moving it down towards the turf and he’s able to find his way over to that glove side and make a heck of a play. Fly ball center field, not that deep. Rojos coming in and makes the catch as he belly flops to the ground. He lost his hat. He lost his glasses.
Oh man, he had to go a long way to get to that one and a full out dive for Rojos and then rolling over on that left shoulder it looked like. Fine play to start the ball game. A little ground ball to short. Allen runs well. Barehand pick by Henderson. Oh, what a fine play from Gunnar.
Big time right there. Some pace to it. A perfect throw over to first base. You can’t do it, folks. Any better than that right there.
One of them from this guy in Esak Paredus, who homerred on the very first pitch of the game. That’s a diving stop by Kik Hernandez. And from his knees, maximum distance, corner to corner in the infield gets Paradis. Wherever you put him, there’s a chance he could win a gold glove. And home the line drive to center field. In comes Denzel and another catch. Denzel making dazzling play after dazzling play. Liner to center. Tawa coming in. Timy’s got it. Terrific diving catch on that sinking liner by Tim Tawa to save a run. Ground ball. How about that? What a play between the legs. Harry Houdini out there. I mean, that was on him. And he reached between his legs, spinning around and robbed Lauraniano. [Applause] He sends one into right center field, slicing. Can Cam get there? No. Jake’s going to get there. Jake Myers puts it away with a great diving catch, falling onto the edge of the warning track. What a play by Jake.
Perfect jump, perfect angle to go get the baseball. And then an allout head first dive on the backhand side.
3-2 fly ball left field kind of no man’s land. Williamson and Randy Arosa Raina makes a tumbling catch.
He makes a tumbling incredible grab. Saves two runs and the side is retired. Lined and oh somehow by McNeel and he got him at first base. Oh wow. McNeel had to run a country mile just to get to that ball and picked it up on one hop with a dive and made a spectacular play for the second out. Broken bat a flare to left field. Montgomery. Will he get there? Oh, what a catch in his big league debut. You see what Coulson Montgomery can do. Welcome to the show. Well, that will be on the highlight reel all season long as maybe the one to beat. Here’s some contact from Mason Win out to the groove. What a catch by PCA.
But I tell you, Wayne, can he not go get it? The jump off the bat, the speed, the timing of the dive. Absolutely excellent.
Pete Crow Armstrong has put together an MVP worthy first half. And sometimes they’ll chant MVP, but if you listen closely, they’re chanting PCA.

question for Boston Red Sox fans
Is it true that Patrick Sandoval will return in August?
Question for the Tampa Bay Rays: When will Manuel Rodriguez be back? When will he be able to pitch?
anyone knows, please let me know. I saw a news article on Twitter saying that José Urquidy will be able to return in August, but do you think Urquidy will really be able to return in August?
